Flawed colors with Lightroom and Fuji XE-1

The Camera Raw support for Fuji XE-1 is heavily flawed. Using Lightroom as a raw converter for these pictures, severe color mismatches can be found in the images. The problem is well known and was frequently reported on in internet blogs (sometimes refered to as "chroma smearing"), and it still persists even with Lightroom 4.3. Fuji tells me that all necessary data was given to Adobe long ago. So here comes my question: Why is the support for Fuji's XE-1 so flawed and when will Adobe guarantee full compatibility?

There is a thread in the Official Adobe forum for the reporting of bugs and feature request about the sub-standard processing of raw files from the Fuji X Pro1 and X E1.  They have acknowledged that they are aware of the problem and are working on resolving the issue.
It appears that the Fuji sensor is unique and more of a chalange in creating an acceptable quality profile. I am sure that Abobe is making every effort to resolve the problem, however they will not release an update untill it meets their quality standard. Process engines are different for every third party raw processing software providers who are not able to use the camera manufacturer's proprietory processes and profiles.
Each provider have their own chefs and recipe's are unique.

  • Laptop monitor choice for photo editing with lightroom and photoshop

    Hi,
i'm going to buy a laptop, mostly for photo editing with lightroom and photoshop use.
I'm in trouble with the display choice.
One laptop has LG LP156WF4 or AUO B156HAN01 display, that should be very similar matte ips display with 55%-60% coverage of AdobeRGB. You can find a review in the "Display" section of these link : http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Clevo-W650SJ-Schenker-M504-Barebones-Notebook.114329.0 .html
The other laptop hasAU Optronics B156HW01 V.4 Matte 95%, that is a TN matte display with  95% coverage of AdobeRGB. You can find a review in these link (the display should be the green bar): http://www.anandtech.com/show/4649/mythlogic-pollux-1400-clevos-w150hr-tested/6
My question is: which one is better for photo editing with photoshop and lightroom?
Someone says that ips is better because of the fidelity of color reproduction, view angles and contrast.
Someone, on the other side, says that the TN 95% is better because of the gamut%.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks,
    Marco Grechi

Macbook pro is out of budget
Hp assistance said that in italy they don't sell laptop with dreamcolor (i'll call again tomorrow to be sure ) but i think that it would be out of budget (max 2000 euro).
They said that the best solution for me is the zbook 15 g2 (2300 euro), but they DON'T know brand and model of the display and if i can have SSD + HD inside the zbook 15 g2.
The laptop with the lg panel costs 1500 euro. the question is; "i know that the lg display is not the best, but is it almost sufficient for my use?". In this way i may save 500/800 to buy a separated display later.
I have read that dell xps 15 and dell precision m3800 have great display, but they are glossy and very reflective. Is it a big handicap?
    Do you know the 3k 15,6" display Panasonic VVX16T020G00 ? It should be a 8-bit display with 72%NTSC gamut ( http://www.panelook.com/VVX16T020G00_Panasonic_15.5_LCM_parameter_22014.html )
Do you sugget me a 3k display for photo editing?
    Thanks

  • Managing Color with LR and the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver

I would like help understanding how to manage color in LIghtroom with the Canon Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver. When I ask LR to manage color in the Printing Module Color Management Profile, it warns me to turn off the printer managing color. But I cannot find where to do this in the driver.
The Color Options menu in the driver gives an additional choice for "Color Mode", but there are no choices here except "Standard", "Linear" or "Tone". The only Canon documentation I can find shows a choice to turn off printer management here, but this driver doesn't give me that choice.
If I look in the driver's "Color Matching", I see only two choices: ColorSync or Vendor Matching. ColorSync brings up Canon profiles like "Pro9000 Fine Art Photo Rag", but selecting one of these gives a warning of unexpected results. This pushes me back to Vendor Matching. But is this turning off the printer driver and leaving it to Lightroom?
Right now, I am getting the best results from choosing "Managed by Printer" in LR's Color Management Profile, and setting "Color Matching" in the Canon driver to "Vendor Matching". If I instead choose one of the Canon profiles in LR's Color Management Profile (and it tells me to turn off the printer managing, which I cannot do), then my prints have a slightly bluer color cast.
Is there a way to turn off the printer managing color in this driver and turn this over to LR, or am I getting the best results possible with the printer managing color anyway?
I am using a 2.4 GHz Intel iMac with OS 10.5.4, 2 gigs SDRAM, standard ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro video card. I downloaded the Canon printer driver from their website, so I assume this is the latest. there is another driver available at their website, but for a lower bit depth. Should I abandon the 10.1.2.0 for this other one? I work with Nikon D300 NEFs, and I assumed the higher bit depth printer driver will work better with these images.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Dear DYP: Unfortunately, those choices are not available in the 10.1.2.0 Canon Printer driver. There are only 2 radio buttons, ColorSync and Vendor Matching. ColorSync then provides a drop-down menu, with no choice for turning off the printer driver.
But I think I found the answer. I found a deeply buried FAQ on the Canon site (no direct URL; sorry!) Here it says:
"Issue: How do I disable the printer driver color correction when using the CUPS driver in Mac OS X 10.5.x?
Solution: Change color management options for printing (Mac OS X 10.5.x)
Change color management options for printing
Open the document you wish to print.
Click 'File' and then click 'Print.'
Note: If the Print window contains only two pop-up menus, click the triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu for expanded options.
Select 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu.
Select 'ColorSync' if you want the application you are using, and not the printer driver, to control the color management of the printed output.
Note: If you are using Adobe Photoshop CS2 or CS3 and have selected 'Let Photoshop Determine Colors', the 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu is automatically set to 'ColorSync.'
Select 'Vendor Matching' if you want the printer driver to control the color management of the printed output."
I tried it, and chose "Automatic" as a choice in ColorSync. The choices under "Color Options" are then greyed out, implying that the Canon driver is now turned off.
The prints came out great, with no color cast, and a little brighter than the printer managed prints.
So, Vendor Managed means printer manages, ColorSync means LR manages.
Thanks, everyone, for keeping me going on tracking this down!

  • Problem with Lightroom and Epson Printer

I'm suddenly having problems printing from Lightroom. I have Lightroom 1.4.1 installed on an iMac G5, and have an Epson Photo Stylus R2400. I've been using this combination from the beginning with no problems. Now suddenly when I try to print I get an error message that says Media is out or not loaded correctly. Neither is the case. I have tried restarting my computer, the printer and everything else I can think of, but nothing works. I can print from any other application without problems, so I'm assuming it's an issue with Lightroom.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? I was going to uninstall lightroom and do a reinstall but I can't find my installation disc. Now I'm at a loss to figure out what to do.
    Thanks,
    Craig

Try deleting you prefs file and/or print templates.
Lightroom is unique to many other programs in that it saves and restores printer settings. Some bad data may tried to be passes. A "fresh start" might help.

  • Problem with Lightroom and Infrared Photography

This problem is specifically related to using LR & PS to process Infrared images. I apologize if this forum may not be the correct place to ask this question.  I am having problems processing Infrared Images when using LR & PS.  I take my IR images with a 530 IR conversion to a Canon G12 camera.  I learned early on Adobe products don't play well with IR images (they come in magenta when importing ) so I bring IR images shot withmy G12  into my computer with Canon Digital Photo Professional and then work in LR & PS from there.
If I then directly open this imported image from my hard drive into Photoshop and try and do adjustments such as blue sky adjustments with a red/blue channel swap, it works fine, just as I would expect.
(If you are not familiar with IR processing, I understand this introduction and question will not make sense)
But when using Lightroom, I sometimes have issues. I always import all my images into LR. Even with IR images, after using DPP to bring them to my computer, I import them into LR for cataloging purposes and to make other potential adjustments. Then my usual workflow is to move photos from LR to Photoshop via the "edit in" command. This opens a dialog box giving a choice of "edit a copy with LR adjustments" which is the default option and the one I always use, or "edit original".
Here's the interesting thing I finally discovered.
If I send the photo from LR to PS using the "edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments" option, I get a bad blue sky effect, where the sky is green and the foliage is pink instead of the sky being blue and the foliage yellow. But if I send it to PS using the "edit original" option, the blue sky effect works fine.
So there appears to be an issue when tring to send IR images from Lightroom to Photoshop. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

Thanks so much for working on this.
I fear the behavior you noticed was just due to the fact I cheanged the
file from 16 bit to 8 bit so the size was smaller and I could easily email
it.  When I open any of my regular 16 bit files, whether I send them to PS
as "edit original" or "edit copy with lightroom adjustments", they both end
up as 16 bit and as far as I can see, seem the same, though obviously they
    are not.
I don't really have a preset, but I'll walk you through the process.
    1. Choose Channel Mixer from the Adjustment Pannel
    2. Make sure the output channel is red, change the red channel slider from
100% to 0% and increase the blue channel slider from 0% to 100%.  You can
    type in the values.
    3. Change the output channel to blue.  Increase the red channel from 0% to
100% and the blue channel from 100% to 0%.
This is supposed to change the sky from brown to blue and the foliage from
blue to yellow and is what happens when you use the "edit original"
option.  When you use the "edit copy with lightroom adjustments", the sky
turns green and the foliage pink.  So you get 2 different behaviors,
depending on which option you use to bring the image from LR to PS.
That's my question, why do you get 2 different behaviors?
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

  • Can an iPhoto library be shared with Lightroom and capture one?

Since Aperture is being replaced by … nothing, how can I access the same library with multiple editors?

Neither iPhoto, Lightroom nor Capture One are editors. They are all database driven Photo Managers with non-destructive processing. There is no rational workflow that would use more than one of these apps, any more than it would make sense to write a novel in three different word processors at the same time.
Pick the one that suits your needs - if you're coming from Aperture then forget iPhoto, it's much less capable and also being end-of-lifed. Pick between Lightroom and Capture One. Then google the options for migration from Aperture to the one you choose.

  • Working with Lightroom and Bridge

I have been using Lightroom for my photos, but was thinking of doing the following:
    - Use Bridge to import files, and sort and tag them
    - This has the benefit of allowing me to categorize movies, etc.
    - Then open and use Lightroom for editing, etc.
Q1: LR is non-destructive. If I add a tag to an image in Bridge, does that write it to the file? Is it non-destructive.
Q2: If I import files into Bridge, do I open LR and import them in there too, or can I simply share the photos between the 2 programs?
Q3: Does LR read the keyword tags from Bridge?
    Thoughts?
    Thanks...
    John

I use Bridge exclusively for culling, editing, keywording. It is faster at those tasks, since it does not require importing everything into a database in order to edit them and then export them. I also already have a DAM that I presently prefer to LR, and likewise for slide shows and printing. I do maintain a 20,000 image test catalog in LR so that I can thoroughly test each of its trial versions, so I am very familiar with it from the first Beta testing to the present.
As long as you write your metadata to sidecars--or directly to tif and jpeg files, or DNG-- both Bridge and LR can see the changes made in either. However, if after you have imported files into the LR Library--and you must do that in order to use any of the features of LR on images--and subsequently delete them, then you must synchronize the folder they are in(lightroom menu item)to clear those image references from Lightrooom's Library. Same goes for adding files to a folder from outside of LR. There are a few things you must remember to do. It is not an entirely automatic process.
If you do a lot of work in PS on your images, you will likely find that working in Bridge with its very fast connection to PS will be faster. If you also do a lot of video--or mixed video, graphics, and image work, you are also likely to find Bridge faster and more workflow effective. LR is strictly a Photographic image management and editing application, from which you can do basic printing, very basic slideshows, and web work.
On the other hand, if you do little editing beyond what ACR provides (same features as LR) and need a DAM that manages only photographic images, and you find the LR Print, web and slideshow features satsifactory, then LR will overall be the more effective workflow.
The only way to determine which is right for you is to give your workflow a thorough test with LR and compare that to Bridge. LR 2.3 appears to be free of significant bugs, is fast and smooth, so this would is a good time for comparison. Bridge CS4/ACR 5.3 have been significantly upgraded as well, as you know. Workflows differ, sometimes significantly, as do machine configurations, so thorough individual testing is a must. Use the tools that will do the best job for your requirements.

  • I am having trouble with lightroom and photoshop being too slow.

Currently I am using LR 5.6 64bit andCS5 64 bit. Is the programs are running too slow because I am using 64 bit? If so, how do I get the other versions. I just started having this problem with the new upgrades.
Please if anyone knows what to do please answer right away. I have jobs that I need to get out.

Thank you both for replying. My processor is 3.2 Ghz. Ram 8gig 64 bit operating. Size of files are 29.6m
available Ram is set to 7170 range in MB i have set to 5019. I have the sync set to sync everything.
When I am importing into lightroom a new scan card, Raw, Canon D 5 Mark II raw. my Lightroom changes to DNG. It can take several minutes to edit. LR will spin quite a while when I try to look at a file in library or develop module after the files have been imported to lightroom. I have my preferences set to hold for 30 days so it should not take so long for files to refocus when I close lightroom and then reopen later. When I bring photo into photoshop, it sometimes it will not open if I have another file open in Photoshop. It takes 30 seconds for a file to open in photoshop from Lightroom. When I zoom in on a photo in LR it takes up to 30 seconds to focus.

  • Problems with Lightroom and Aperture

Automatical file transfer doesn't work with Lightroom. File transfer starts, but in the end error report appears and no files are transferred. File transfer works manually and via Finder.
There are also problems with Aperture. It crashes, when I try to view images in full screen mode.
    Waiting for an update...

Hi Tim, I downloaded an update to Aperture and it works fine.
However I sympathize with Lightroom. I have weird problems when quitting Photoshop CS3.

  • Exporting size with Lightroom and Photoshop

So I took a panoramic shot of denver.
The file is a raw file. and at the end I need it to be able to be a 24"x72" canvas print.
I need to edit in lightroom and then edit in photoshop. I have done this many times and works great!
When do I need to set the file size to what I need to keep maximum quality?
When I send it to photoshop, when I send it back to lightroom, or when I export the Lightroom PSD as a jpeg from Lightroom to finished file?
Please help! Kind of weird for me ha!
    Thanks!

No, Photoshop does not set any image size unless you do it manually in >Image >Image Size.
PS "accepts" the resolution that is sent to it from LR. In LR you can specify which resolution you want for editing in PS (default is 240 ppi) - you do this in >Edit > Preferences > External Editing.
Resolution is intricately related to image size. For instance: If an image comes out of the camera at 3000 x 2000 pixels. At 300 ppi that image would be 10" x 6.67". At 240 ppi the same image (without any upsampling or downsampling) would be 12.5" x 8.33". For quality printing you would typically aim at a resolution of 240 minimum.
If your original image (the panorama after it has been stitched together) does not have enough ppi for a desired print of 24" x 72" at 240 dpi you have to enlarge the image either in PS (upsampling) or you have to specify the size in the Export dialog in LR. LR will then enlarge the image.

  • Lightroom and Fuji preset issue

I've updated the firmware on my Fuji X-E2 and have the option of using the Classic Chrome preset. However when I import the files into Lightroom I'm not given the option of using  Classic Chrome with the RAW file.
I am running Lightroom 5.7.1 on a Mac and under the Camera Calibration panel in the Develop Module I can access:
    Camera Provia
    Camera Velvia
    Camera Astia
    Camera Pro Neg Hi
    Camera Pro neg Std
    Camera Monochrome (Y, R and G)
I have version 8.7.1 of Adobe Camera Raw installed.
Can anyone please tell me why I can't see the Classic Chrome option (I believe it was introduced in Lightroom 5.7) and how to sort it?
    Many thanks.

Classic Chrome wasn't available for your camera in LR 5.7 and ACR 8.7, either, right, so it's not the case that it disappeared with the x.7.1 update, it's just that Adobe hasn't added it yet for the X-E2, yet.

  • 32 Bit HDR Problem With Lightroom and Photoshop CS6

    Hello all:
In following Julieanne's Adobe TV topic here ->  http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/quick-tip-creating-32bi t-hdr-images-in-lr-41/ a problem arises when trying to save from Photoshop CS 6. According to Julieanne you hit ctrl-s so that PS saves the HDR image and then it should show up in Lightroom. What I have found is that hitting crtrl-s saves it as a PSD file which does automatically show up in Lightroom, however Lightroom but  can't read it. If I do a save-as, and select TIFF as the extension Lightroom will not automatically see the TIFF file. I have to synchronize the folder in order to have Lightroom import it.
Why would Lightroom automatically see a PSD file (that is of no use) and not see the TIFF file?
Is there a setting in PS that will change the preferences to save as a TIFF instead of a PSD file?
Using Lightroom 4.2 and Photoshop CS6.
    Thanks,
    Terry

Go to LR's preferences > External Editing tab and change the top pop-up to TIFF and you should be all set.
