Flex 2-14 Compatible M.2 SSD's

Hello guys/gals, new Lenovo user here.
I want to add an SSD to my Flex 2-14 which currently has the 500gb SSHD.
I see that the space for the M.2 slot is quite small, so its only 42mm M.2 drives that will fit.
Is this correct ?
Next there is the issue of choices and compatibility.
There are 3 readily available choices here in the UK. ( Looking at 128gb sizes)
Adata Premier Pro SP900, (Sandforce controller)
MyDigitalSSD SC2, (Phision 9 controller)
Transcend MTS400, (Transcend own controller)
The adata looks the fastest, but I read an amazon review off a Lenovo users who couldnt get it to work in ahci mode.
The myDigital one looks to be the most compatible, but is relatively slow for a SSD (compared to desktop verisons at least).
Dont know much about the Transcend one.
Any ideas ??
Cheers for the help.

  • Flex components not compatible with iOS/ADT packager?

I've been struggling hard and long to export a simple Hello World project to my iPhone with AIR 2.6. After a lot if reading on different blogs and sites I've gotten as far as packaging my debug swf to an IPA with ADT. The app starts on my iPhone but freezes during the preloader. If I change my main file to a strict AS3 file extending a Sprite it runs fine. Haven't been able to get startTouchDrag to work but I don't know if that has something to do with this problem.
    I've tried:
Compiling with Flex 3.5, 4.0 and 4.1 (all merged with AIR 2.6 ofcourse)
I've tried setting the project to Flex 3 compatible (when using 4.0 and 4.1)
I've tried using MX components only.
Am I banging my head against a wall here or is it possible to package Flex applications or do they need to be strict AS3?

    Hi Jeffrey
Thank you for replying! I will try Burrito when I get the chance.
I'm using iOS 4.3 on an iPhone 3GS so that shouldn't be a problem. I package with the AIR 2.6 adt and the swf is compiled in FB4 using Flex 4.1 merged with Air 2.6. I changed the main mxml file to an AS3 and now it runs on my iPhone but I can't get the TouchEvents to work. I get true when I trace Multitouch.supportsTouchEvents but I get no events when listening for TOUCH_BEGIN or TOUCH_TAP on either stage or a sprite. I've also added  -target-player=11 as and additional compiler argument in FB4 (from Cantrell blog).
Is there something I might need to add to my adt packaging?
    C:\AdobeAIRSDK\bin\adt -package -target ipa-test -provisioning-profile HelloWorld.mobileprovision -storetype pkcs12 -keystore rs.p12 -storepass XXXXXX ./HelloWorld.ipa ./bin-debug/HelloWorld-app.xml -C ./bin-debug HelloWorld.swf -C ./bin-debug assets
Should there be any files in the assets folder that I'm missing or anything special in the main-app.xml file?

  • More Info on MacBook-Compatible 256 GB SSD

I picked up a unibody MacBook shortly after their introduction in October, before the current 256 GB SDD option was available and now I have a few questions relating to the SDD Apple now offers:
    1. What is the exact model of this SSD? I can't seem to find it as a standalone part offered in the Apple store. Does Apple offer it by itself? If not, are there any other shops that do?
    2. If I were to end up buying the new SSD with the intention of replacing my MacBook's current hard drive how would I go about migrating the data over? Would I need to purchase another copy of Mac OS X? What about other programs for which I only have single licenses?
    Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure, although I've heard Samsung. There's no benefit to getting an Apple OEM drive in the aftermarket anyways. It would likely cost more and wouldn't really work any better. Apple uses industry standard components that are just labelled as Apple OEM.
Apple doesn't sell internal drives at Apple Stores (retail or online). They seem to stock them at repair facilities as a warranty/AppleCare repair item though.

You should have no license problems cloning your drive. You could use an external (bridge) enclosure or use an external hard drive. Using a separate external hard drive would mean performing two clones. Legally you should be OK provided you only use one of the drives as your system disk at a time.
If you're really considering this, there are very good aftermarket drives available. The Intel X-25M is very, very fast, although currently their largest capacity is 160 GB. The OCZ Vertex 250 GB version is also about $850 now. You could even wait for the prices to fall, which they are steadily doing.

  • X99S XPOWER AC - Can I please get a BIOS compatible with XP941 SSD

I saw the x99s gaming 7 got some beta bios love and fixed the XP941. But I have the X99s spower AC and my XP941 is not showing in the BIOS. Can I please get a beta bios that fixes this? I want to install an OS to  it and boot from it

I can't seem to edit my posts. Anyways, I tried installing anyways. Windows 8 saw the SSD and it was able to do the pre-install on it. After it reboots though, because the BIOS cannot see it, it cannot boot from it and continue installing. Also, I found a picture somewhere on these forums that shows to enable "pcie nand configuration" but there is no option for that in my bios, even after enabling windows 8 feature and fast foot and raid mode.
Surely its a bios bug and i hope there is a fix already out there
edit: Another thing that I found that I miss from my x79 big bang-xpower II motherboard is the failed OC recovery. If my OC fails on my X99S motherboard, there is no recovery. It just powers off and doesn't turn back on. If I try to turn it back on, it just turns off again after about 8 seconds. The only way to get back is to clear CMOS, which is very cumbersome. If I did the same on my old X79 board, it would revert to default settings temporarily so it could boot and would have the failed OC settings still showing in the OC options so you could quickly tweak them.
i hope these 2 bugs/features are fixed/implemented soon. Until then, my PC cant work at its fullest potential.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 will not book Mavericks from SSD (I have tried E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.)

I have a late 2011 15" i7 MBP with 10GB of RAM (8GB + 2GB) running Mavericks 10.9.1 that I want to install an internal SSD on and run just the OS and all of my apps off of, while keeping my Home folder with all of my media on the orignal HDD. I researched online for OS X compatible and recommended SSDs and baught a Kingston 120GB SSD (http://www.kingston.com/us/ssd/v#sv300s3). I also researched and found the most recomended way to do so was with an MCE Optibay (http://store.mcetech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=OBSxGB- UNB&Category_Code=STORHDOPTIBAY&Product_Count=3). I baught and installed them with no problem. I took out the super drive and replaced it with the Optibay which I placed the original 500GB HDD in, then I installed the SSD into the main hard drive slot. I manually booted the Macbook (holding "option") from the HDD. Using Disk Utility I then erased the entire (brand new, already empty) SSD in the -Mac OS Extended (Journaled)- format and Partitioned it as a single drive with the -GUID Partition Table- scheme and the -Mac OS Extended (Journaled)- format. I then used the recomended program "Carbon Copy Cloner" and cloned my HDD to my SSD. When it finished with no problems I changed the Startup Disk in System Preferences to the SSD and restarted. When the Macbook booted it made the loud Apple "dunnnnn" as it always does, then instead of the Apple logo appearing a gay circle with a diagonal line through it appeared (like on a "no smoking" sign), I later found this error to backed the "Apple prohibation sign". After showing this error for about 20 seconds, the Apple logo appeared as normal, and after about 30 seconds my log-in screen showed up and I was able to log in. The only thing I can imagine happened is that it couln't read the OS from the SSD so it defaulted over to the HDD and booted from there. After this happened I researched online for suggestions and fixes to this problem and tried EVERY single one that I found.
Below is a list of every trouble shooting option I did (that I can rememember right now) and none of them worked (making sure to wipe the SSD properly between new attempts):
--Use CCC to clone everything on HDD except Home Folder to SSD
--Use CCC to clone entire HDD to SSD
--Use Disk Utility to clone everything on HDD except Home Folder to SSD
--Use Disk Utility to clone entire HDD to SSD
--Clone HDD to SSD with CCC, then remove HDD from Macbook, forcing it to boot only from SSD
--Download a clean copy of Mavericks from the App Store and directly install it to the SSD then manually boot from the SSD
--Download a clean copy of Mavericks from the App Store and install to a USB thumb drive via DiskMaker X app (http://liondiskmaker.com/), boot manually to the USB OS X installer, then install the OS to SSD via startup
--Download a clean copy of Mountain Lion from the App Store and install it to a USB thumb drivevia DiskMaker X app (http://liondiskmaker.com/), boot manually to the USB OS X installer, then install the OS to SSD via startup
--Put the HDD in its original place and put the SSD in the Optibay (this lead to more problems)
///--As I was cloning the HDD to the SSD with CCC it got to my one of my apps, "Audacity", and said that one of the files had a problem and couldn't clone it, so I just deleted the app entirely.
///--I went to reformat and partition the SDD again because CCC cloned about 5GB from the HDD to the SSD, and as I was erasing the SSD it said "failed to umnount disk". Then I tried to just partition it and got the same error. So I placed the SSD back into the main drive slot and put the HDD back into the Optibay. I booted from the HDD, went back into Disk Utility and was able to format and partition the SDD.
Every single time I tried to boot from the SSD after trying every fix and trouble shoot I would get the "Apple Prohibation" sign. Between yesterday and today I have spent upwards of 20 hours reading about solutions to this via blogs, forums, and websites, doing these trouble shooting techniques, and talking on the phone with Apple tech support, Apple store technitians, and Apple registered local computer store employees.
I also read that the SATA cable or SSD is sometimes faulty and turns out to be the cause in this issue, but there is no way of actually checking for that, and I am able to read and write to the SSD and HDD which are both connected via the SATA cable, so I don't think it's the SATA cable or the SSD.
Please if anyone has any other suggestions that I have not mentioned or was able to do an internal SSD install and clone their HDD to it with no problems at all afterwords, tell me how!!!

You did everything 'right' and yet in most cases such as you present, it turns out to be a bad SATA cable 99% of the time.
I, too, have a Late 2011 15" model and never had a problem with my SATA cable and my SSD. Most people don't. But then there are those few who do.
You can likely find a 'warrantied' cable on www.ifixit.com - however, I've never heard of anyone having problems with the much less expensive options on eBay!

  • Satellite R630-155 - Fan is too noisy and SSD upgrade

I am the owner of a Toshiba Satellite R630-155 (Core i5-480). My problems are:
    1. The fan is too noisy and never stops. In normal operation (browsing and general office work) there is a constant high pitch noise that is audible three to four meters away in an office environment - in high load you just can't stand it!!! The fan never stops... even when you are doing nothing...
    2. Heat is a big problem. The bottom of the laptop is constantly overheating and i have to place it on my desk in a way that the bottom left corner is outside of the table so it can breath fresh air from below - if not, the temperature rises and the (loud) fan is unable to keep up. When i work with the laptop while sitting on a sofa, i have to place a thick book between the laptop and my legs. The book must be thick (more than an inch) with hard covers, otherwise the heat passes through the book!!!!
    3. Last (but not least, i just mention the biggest problems here) it's the problem with SSD installation. I bought a used Corsair F80 (80Gb SSD) from a friend, but i was unable to use it with the Toshiba - the BIOS was not detecting the disk. I tried installing all latest firmware updates for both laptop and SSD but i had no success. Then i gave the disk back and i bought a brand new Zalman 128Gb SSD (SSD0128N1 Sandforce) but i had exactly the same problem. I contacted my local Toshiba support and after a lot of conversation the only answer i got is that the laptop is not compatible with those SSD's and this is acceptable by Toshiba and not their problem. They told me that if i need an SSD upgrade i can only go for the Toshiba SSD that is installed on the portege series, which is sold by Toshiba for a ridiculously expensive price - about $500 for 128Gb. I contacted the European support center and i got the exact same reply. I searched on the Internet and i found someone else with the exact same problem with a Corsair 128Gb SSD - he found that the laptop detects the SSD after ten to twenty reboots. I tried that and it was true - after a lot of reboots the laptop detected the Zalman disk and i was able to install Windows 7 successfully, but the process is unacceptable. Also the disk is benchmarked by official sites at the speed of an OCZ Vertex 2 128Gb (and slightly better), but when i ran a benchmark in the Toshiba, the results I got were below half of the advertised speed. Same benchmark in another machine for the same disk, resulted in the advertised speeds.
Shame for Toshiba... nice design and portability but everything else is a big flaw. Their support in non existent and they do not value their customers. I feel they stole my money and I'll never buy a Toshiba laptop again.
Sorry for the big message, but I need I have to warn potential customers. Can someone help me with any of the above problems? Do you have the same problems too?
    To be continued...

    Hi buddy,
Regarding the fan and heat issue: Did you make BIOS update? Friend of me has Satellite R630 too and he told me that fan activity with new BIOS version 2.10 is reduced. Furthermore the notebook is cooler than before so I would recommend installing this update. You can download the BIOS update here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
But before you start the BIOS update you should consider the following tips:
    -Run update as Administrator only
-Unzip all files from zip archive before you start the update file
-Close all running programs and also the antivirus and firewall
-Make sure that battery is fully charged
Regarding the SSDs its always a little bit complicated installing 3rd party products and nobody can guarantee that such parts would work. You are always on safely side with original Toshiba spare parts.
Everything what you can do is installing the newest firmware for SSD and hope that it works but who knows maybe the BIOS update will also help you in this case ;)

  • HP H8-1500z and Samsung SSD - BIOS sees the drive, Win 8.1 doesn't

I'm trying to help a friend (no really!)  I've worked in IT support, but this has me stumped so far.
The H8-1500z has an AMD hexacore CPU, and the AMD Raid storage driver.  The Samsung Magician software has been run using a USB adapter to clone the internal HHD to the SSD drive, and it seemed to go fine.  When all else has failed, the SSD has been bootable as a USB device.  So it would seem the SSD is working OK, just not when connected to an internal SATA port.
The current SATA config includes the internal HDD, a four-device memory card reader/writer, and now the Samsung SSD.
The SSD is visible to the BIOS, but not to Windows 8.1.
I switched the BIOS from RAID (the default) to AHCI - the PC still works, but no change.  Win 8.1 updates are all installed, and the BIOS reports it's also up-to-date.  I've run the HP troubleshooter a few times--it reports it has made changes, but again, no joy.
Samsung tech support wrote this to him:
All Samsung Solid State Drives are compatible with AMD processors. The only known issue with AMD machines is with the Samsung SSD Magician software, in which the native AMD SATA port drivers are not compatible with the SSD Magician software. To remedy this, we simply ask that you install Microsoft SATA port drivers or NVIDIA SATA port drivers and the issue will be resolved.
We've scoured the Micrsoft site and Google on how to "simply" do this.  Comparing the driver names for my Crucial SSD drives and his, the three files are the same.  I think he already has the drivers installed.  The Device Manager lists the "Microsoft Strorage Space Controller."  He did attempt disabling the  AMD drivers by renaming them; the PC was unbootable.  Thankfully he was able to boot off the SSD with USB and put the filenames back and restore bootability.
I've suggested he disconnect the memory card reader to test.  He hasn't tried it yet.  I'm thinking of bringing my rig over, and seeing if my homebuilt can see his drive, and if his HP can see one of my SSD drives.
We've been at this for several weeks, and I've spent hours on this site and Googling to try and figure out why the BIOS would see the drive, but not Windows.
I really hope someone can point us in the right direction.
    Many thanks,
    Steve

  • Do i use Air or Flex for iPhone and Android app development

Hi guys, whats the main difference between the 2 and does Air or Flex have everything Xcode does for iPhone/iPad development
I'm hearing that Flex has Android and SDK for iPhone, if this is the case why learn Xcode ?
    Thanks

Titanium is good for iOS, but apparently not so good for Android. Moreover, it's not so cheap!
When one chooses a platform, one should also take into consideration the history and stability of the company which offers it.
That is why I would not go to Appcelerator: who knows what's behind the corner?
Sure, it is ironic that I say this after Adobe - a big company - has abandonded Flex...
    Some alternatives:
    - AMPChroma (Horrible name, but it has a solid company selling it: Antenna Software). This thing has the advantage that the content is not either native or web: the same content can be packaged for a web site AND for an app
Pro's: Many big players are using it
Con's: price list not very clear
    - Adobe Edge "Preview" + Adobe PhoneGap <--- Adobe says: you create animation for the web, you package it for an app. Not many people have tried it. But apparently it will work.
Pro's: apparently, Edge is Adobe's instrument to finally go to HTML5.
Con's: Edge "showcase" performs BADLY and SLOWLY in an iPhone (go think of a Samsung Mini)
    - Adobe Flash professional CS6 + Create JS <--- you create animations in Flash, then you export to HTML5 and js for browsers which don't have flash. You can also package with AIR for iOS and Droid.
Pro's: Flash professional is easy, Action Script is powerful. You can have BOTH the power of Flash and the portability of html5/JS.
Con's: for how long will Adobe support this Create JS hack? When will Adobe say "OK, now you've done enough automatic porting to JS, from next release on you move to Edge, or to - wait for it - a version of Flash which uses Javascript instead than ActionScript?"
Me, I don't know what to do. I am keen on FlashBuilder/Flex because it's fast to build. Apps are really compatible both with iOS and Android. It has Salesforce.com connectivity. It's cool.
However, there are two problems that get me stuck from continuing with FlashBuilder:
    - OK for native apps but... how do I use the Flash Builder/Flex content for the mobile WEB? Flash Builder does not have the CreateJS capability. I do a cool interface and I cannot reuse it on the mobile web if not with apps?
    - OK for HTML5 but... it's NOT as good as Flash now. Have you ever seen a Phonegap application with graphics? They're embarassing. Slow, imprecise. And non-compiled Edge stuff is not much better. Is it? any good example.
Bottom line: at the moment, HTML5 support does not seem good. On the other hand, Flex is NOT compatible with mobile web. What IS performing and promises to be compatible with mobile web in addition to native apps?
    Flash Professional CS6.
    Again.
I am happy if some-one belies me with good arguments.

  • Flex Builder 3 Backwards Compatibility

    Hello,
I was wondering which versions of Flash are Flex 3 and Flex
Builder 3 compatible with. The clients I'm building the Flex app
for are still on 9.0.16.0, on an isolated network, and may be
awhile till they upgrade. Is FB3 compatible with that version, or
is there a compiler option to make it so? I noticed for instance
that a simple ComboBox wouldn't work in that version - it caused
the Flash page not to completely load. It did work with a later
version of flash, so I suspected it is a compatibility issue.
    Thanks,
    Dan

Flex 3 requires player 9.0.115. But, in FB3 you can set the
compatibility version so you can compile against the Flex 2 SDK
which can be run by earlier versions of the player.
To do this select Project > Properties > Flex Compiler.
Select "Use a Specific SDK" and then select Flex 2.0.1 Hotfix
    from the drop down.

And after that I tried to install Flex Builder 3 standalone, but that worked even worse, It just created two empty folders! How to solve all these problems?

Read the Flex Builder release notes and installation instructions.
    Sincerely,
    Michael

I tried again. This time I started with downloading a clean copy of
Eclipse and installed it in a new folder, then downloaded a clean
copy of the Flex plugin and saved it in a new folder. It did not
work that much better this time. The errors was the following:
