Flex 2 E-Commerce Integration

I am researching various approaches to building a rather
large and complex E-Commerce website. The site would include the
typical... product catalog, advanced searches, online
transactions... plus monthly billing, user admin tools, etc. One of
my current options for this project is Flex. Can anyone tell me
some of the pitfalls or advantages I may encounter using Flex for
such a project? Primarily, my major concerns center around
integration with Payment Gateways (how well do Gateways support
transactions from a Flex app? How easy is it for a Flex app to hook
into a gateway?). Similarly, is there anything I should be aware of
when choosing a web host? For instance, if I were to choose
ASP.NET, I would need to choose a hosting platform with the
appropriate framework installed.

Flex 3 and Java - Integrated Development on Eclipse

I am new to flex as well as to eclipse. I have downloaded
Adobe Flex Builder 3.0 and installed it. I want to use java at the
back-end, but I don't have Java perspective option in eclipse.
Therefore, I am currently using 2 IDE(s), one is
flex-builder, and other is Eclipse for Web tool platform
(eclipse-jee-europa-winter-win32.zip).
Is there anyway that I can benefit integrated development of
Flex and java using same IDE?

I wouldn't try it really... it's not worth the issues you'd
probably run into and the work of getting it setup, if it's even
possible. I just run Eclipse and FB separate. If you have a gig of
ram you should be fine doing this I think.
If you *really* want to get rid of one, you can use the Flex
plugin for Eclipse, but I've heard people complain about it not
playing nice with Java.

BC E-commerce integrated with Subscription Based Web Application

I am considering using BC for my company's corporate website as well as the online store. We sell a subscription based web application which will have 3 or more flavors (products) and will need to bill customers on a recurring monthly or annual basis.
For the monthly subscriptions, we want to bill the customer based on the "highwater" mark with regards to user quantity for that given month. This gives the users the flexibility to add/remove users freely without the fuss of having to contact a sales representative to adjust their account/recurring order.
I would imagine this would happen one of two ways:
The user signs up creating their account both in our web application and the ecommerce site and is billed for the first time. In the ensuing months, either: the e-commerce site communicates with our web application to get the high water mark quantity for that billing cycle or
Our web application sends a new order each month to the e-commerce site, including the highwater mark quantity, giving the illusion to the user that it is indeed a recurring order but behind the scenes they are actually individual orders.
Annual subscription customers are a bit more challenging. We still want the users to have the flexibility to add/remove users with minimal effort. However, since they are being billed on an annual basis, prorating additional users will be necessary. So if customer who previously purchased 5 licenses, adds 5 more licenses during month 6 of their annual subscription term, we would need the e-commerce solution to bill them once immediately for the 50% prorated 5 licenses, then bill them 6 month's later for the total 10 license subscription renewal.
At a bit of higher level, we would prefer the customer to manage all their billing/account info within our web application rather than going to an external store to do so.
One other caveat, we would prefer not to store credit card info on our site. Preferably that would be stored in our payment gateway (Auth.net). This may or may not affect the workflows described above.
My Questions:
Can the BC e-commerce solution support the workflows above?If so, is there any documentation/resources available to research this further?
Are there any BC customers that currently do something similar? If so, who and how similar?

From what you have described it seems to me that you need some complex server side logic which BC doesn't allow. In any case you'd have to develop an app that communicates between BC and that other application through our API, which will control the orders as per your requirement. In particular, there's no easy way for end user to control their recurring monthly or annual subscription, there's no way to apply immediate discounts according to earlier purchases that will satisfy this requirement "if customer who previously purchased 5 licenses, adds 5 more licenses during month 6 of their annual subscription term, we would need the e-commerce solution to bill them once immediately for the 50% prorated 5 licenses, then bill them 6 month's later for the total 10 license subscription renewal", you can't build in this functionality into BC " the e-commerce site communicates with our web application to get the high water mark quantity for that billing cycle" and there are few more things there which suggest to me that you need something custom.

I have some experience with flex, but I am pretty new to

How to integrate Flex with Word Documents

Now I am doing R & D about Flex and MS-Office integration (.doc, .dox, .odt, .ods, .xls, .xlsx).
While surfing the internet some people said there is no way to display & edit document in flex applications. But some people suggested to use third party tools.
I got print2flash as a third party tool which is helpful to convert word file to .swf file but it not working some times. So I couldnt get any idea regarding this. Kindly help to me to fix this.

I would try a couple of things and see what works the best. If you need to show an exact document replica than going with PDF or HTML format should be your first choice. The conversion would be done on the server and the only solution to come up with is how to show documents. In order to show either format you will have to stick to an AIR application. If it has to be a web application than you can try opening a word doc over the network as a file (doing it from an html wrapper), or loading it from your web and allowing the Browser showing it via a default document viewer. In both situations a document will be open in a new browser window. If that's not an option, go back to AIR.

Grey colored space on right and bottom of Flex application

Hi,
I have a flex application that is integrated with SAP WD to be used as Flash Island.
Yesterday I upgraded my Flash player from version 10_ax_debug to version 10.2.159.1.
Since then I am getting grey colored space on right and bottom of application.
Can you please tell me how do I get rid of it?

Understanding Flex: Can it be used without Flash-knowledge, and some other questions

I'm trying to understand how Flex works. My understanding is
that Flex is like the integration link between Flash-content and
.NET-applications on the web. We need rich interface on our
.NET-applications - without ActionScript-coding required from the
programmer's side.
Can this be acheived with Flex alone?
What is Coldfusion required for? Can Flex be used without it
to create the rich web interface?
Are basic components included and ready-to-be-used? What if
special components are needed? E.g. multi-level menu-tree or some
special data grid. Can this be developed by a Flash-programmer and
used as a "generic" component?
My reason for choosing this would be that we easily can
acheive great web-layouts that are Flash-based, and that interact
with our .NET-applications. Is this the product I'm looking for?

It is absolutely possible to create complex custom components
in Flex and without FlashPro.
Flex can communicate with the server in several ways.
WebService: SOAP-based
HTTPService: XML over HTTP, (like REST and AJAX)
RemoteObject: uses proprietary amf protocol, needs Java or CF
on back-end
There are some others like URLLoader and sockets.
Unless you need your back end functionality to be generally
available to anonymous third parties (hence the wsdl), WebServices
are unnecessarily complex.
I prefer HTTPService, I post xml strings in the normal
name=value format to the server and use e4x xml as the resultFormat
in flex.
Even though you said "roughly", that is still an impossible
question to answer, there are too many variables: On the back-end,
do you need to install a database? Create the schema? or is some of
that part done already? On the front-end, How will you navigate the
records? See, too many variables.
The communication part is by far the easiest. Almost
negligible, although the Flash Player security can cause some
head-scratching!

i'm new to flex but i am using flex 3. is there a flex 4 builder ? or can the flex sdk 4 be integrated to fle3 builder? please i wish someone would help me.thanks

Flex Builder was rebranded Flash Builder, and you can currently download a trial version of Flash Builder 4 at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashbuilder4/. Unfortunately, the included Flex 4 SDK with the latest Flash Builder 4 beta is a bit older, so you may want to download a newer nightly Flex 4 build from http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Download+Flex+4. And you can find more information and rough milestone dates and specs from the Flex 4 (codename: Gumbo) from the Adobe Open Source site at http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Gumbo.
Personally I probably wouldnt try getting the Flex 4 SDK working in Flex Builder 3. I'd use the Flash Builder 4 beta instead. If you have a Flex Builder 3 serial number, there should be a way to extend the trial period of the Flash Builder 4 beta; https://freeriatools.adobe.com/flashbuilder4beta/.
