Flex 2 learning resource
hi,
i am relatively new to flex 2.0 and have been using it with
the help of docuumentation only. i would like to learn this
platform completely. please suggest me some resource which teaches
me the same from the basics to the core
Go to www.lynda.com and sign up for a month's subscription
($25). They have 3 video tutorials you can watch that show you how
to use Flex, FlexBuilder, Flex Data Services (that's 15 hours
worth). There are a few more just for ActionScript. Well worth the
$25 cost. The videos are broken up into 5-10 minute segments. You
can even look at some of the first couple of videos in the Flex
series for free. You can't save the videos though, but you can buy
each series on DVD for a bit more, also includes the source code to
the tutorials.

Flex Developer Resource Needed.
My company, located in Scottsdale, AZ purchased IBM Elixir and we have an immediate need for a Flex developer resource who can assist us in our .NET application integration with this product. If you are a seasoned Flex developer familiar with Elixir or can refer me to a resource, please email me at: [email protected]
ThanksPlease refrain from discussing job opportunities on this
forum. There is a mailing list specifically for this topic. Do an
internet search for "flex jobs". -
Has anyone come across a learning resource which employs a graphic approach to explain all the availble blending modes?
This is also a great book on blend modes:

Need Report Builder Learning Resource -- Books, CDROM, etc.
I'm a seasoned SW architect and I'm pretty good at learning stuff on my own. I need a resources for learning Oracle Report Builder. I did a few of the tutorials on the web but they do little more than take you thru the wizzards. They don't cover more advanced topics like reports with several linked queries.
The only book I found dates from about 1999-2000 and covers Forms and Reports. Only about 20% of the book is Reports.
http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Developer-Advanced-Forms-Reports/dp/0072120487/sr=8-2/qid=1169213574/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/103-6435048-1295048?ie=UTF8&s=books
Anyone know how much the product has changed in six years? Would that be too out of date?
There is an CD-ROM course from Oracle for $500. Anyone use that who can give a review?
I know there's also a one week course from Oracle for $3K. I'm not that into sitting in class for a whole week if I don't have to.
Anyone recommend any other learning resources?Try this URL
http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/reports.html
This has links for 10g, 9i, and 6i. Look for the PDF called
"Building Reports" for the version you need. I just started learning Reports, and it is invaluable. -
Can anyone recommend a good learning resource for photshop scripting? Something other than the Adobe scripting JS reference guides or Java Script manuals. Ideally, a course focused on Photoshop Scripting.
As no one else seems to have had anything particular to recommend maybe this book by Jeffrey Tranberry has a chapter of interest to offer.

Welcome to the Flex Learning Paths forum!
Hello,
If you’ve come to this forum, you’ve probably
been working with the Flex Learning Paths in the Flex Developer
Center, with the goal of becoming a Flex expert:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/learn/
We want to use this feedback forum is to help you and others
like you achieve that goal.
Help us help you along the way by providing us with feedback
on the following:
- Ways we can construct the path to make it easier to follow
- Ideas for new features
- Gaps in the path that we need to fill to help you progress
in your learning
Also, we’ve launched a beta version (Flex application)
of the Flex Learning Paths that we’d love to get your
feedback on as well:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/learn/designer/learningpath.html
Thanks for checking out learning paths – and let us
know what we can do to help you learn Flex!
Craig Goodman
Group Manager, Developer Relations Web ContentHello, together,
does anybody know how to change the look of the Flex Builder 3 in black? Is there any themes or additional style for its look? The editor background is already changed.
Thanks in advance -
Here's a few initial thoughts.
First off, your intention is commendable. I'm very pleased to
see what I'd almost describe as a professional development tool
encapsulating what Adobe believes as the quickest path to Flex
mastery. It's clean, well thought out and a nice aggregate of
materials relating to learning Flex. I appreciate the filters of
Architect/Programmer/Manager and the sub-filters of Data Driven /
Customizing etc.
I am committed to getting a thorough understanding of Flex
and at a glance - this looks perfect. Of course, I consider this a
supplement to the mountain of books and tutes I've already
assembled.
Finally, feedback. I want this as an AIR app - on my desktop,
slightly repurposed as a "To DO" list. I want to be able to check
off items as I complete them and I want to have the capability to
add minor notes of my own to each task. The ability to add links to
additional resources found online that relate to the task/subject
matter would also be beneficial.
Again, looks to be an very helpful tool with an ambitious
agenda. I'm sure I'll have more to say as I move through it.
Thanks
Side Note: Videos are playing fine on my endi would say it depends on which adobe products you learned to
tell how well it will translate. if you know flash/actionscript, it
should not be too bad. javascript and actionscript are both in the
ECMAScript families, so if you've not seen actionscript, but you
know javascript, it will be familiar.
also, it depends on how complex the project is. i came from
java-land (10+ years) and it's been a bit of an uphill climb
because our project is fairly complex. we have a real time system
in java to which we're connecting a flex client thru a proprietary
binary protocol polling every few seconds. we use the data grid
heavily and rely on some other key components, and we've had to
customize or override almost every behavior of TileList, DataGrid,
and ArrayCollection. we've had to disable a lot of the binding
features on the collection under the grid because we're updating
about 300 cells at a time.
of course, if you want to do a shopping cart (*the* flex
example application), you will actually find about 30 gazillion
implementations. that's a fairly static application with few
tentacles to server-side services. most examples online are pretty
trivial and i've not found a lot of use for them.
if your project is not too complex and you have some
object-oriented programming ability, it's not too bad a curve.

Best FCE Learning Resource?
Hello FCE users,
How did you learn to use FCE? I recently upgraded from iMovie 09 to FCE but am still scratching my head at its advanced interface and capabilities that I am not yet able to use. How did you learn to get to your current level of proficiency? Thanks a lot for your info! You could get going immediately (although it might be a bit late at night in Taiwan...) with:
http://www.izzyvideo.com/learn-final-cut-express/
I used it last year and found it VERY helpful. I even signed up and paid some money!
When the shops open you could also get Tom Wolsky's "Final Cut Express 4 Editing Workshop".
There are other resources too on the web and you can always ask specific questions here -
Hello,
I'm learning Flex 3 and now have basic Flex understanding.
Currently read "Learning Flex 3" by Alaric Cole, but there are only
basics in this book.
What books can you, guys, recommend for advanced
studies? The best thing you can do is to go through these FlexBuilder
help topics and all their sub-topics TWICE. It will take several
weeks, but if you go through all this material TWICE, copying and
compiling all the sub-programs, you will extend your knowledge
sufficiently.

Project Online learning resources
Are there any good resources online for learning about Project Online/Project WebApp? I've kind of pieced together some things here and there and I managed to get a Project Pro project imported but I can't find much beyond getting started videos
for actually learning about Project Online. Or what I do find are old videos from the "preview" version that seem to be more marketing/sales oriented rather than for training. My fellow Project MVP, Paul Mather, has put together a series of posts which exactly do this.

Good SQL learning resource ?
I often scan the discussion group articles because I always learn a lot from them.
There are many constructs used in various SQL examples in this group that are totally foreign to me (because I am a novice).
Can anyone recommend a book or location where I might become familiar with these advanced SQL concepts and how they are used.
I am thinking of something with good examples so Oracle reference may not be satisfactory
ThanksHi,
This might can help you.
Buy Oracle 7.3 written by George Coch (X wise president of oracle corporation).
