Flex 3 battery replacement... what should i expect?

I am considering buying a Flex 3 15 inch. All of these newer, flexible laptops hide their batteries away where they arent as accessible as the ones i am accustomed to. I have had bad experience with Dell batteries dying after a year or 2, but those i can at least buy and replace with ease. The Flex is more like a tablet in that you have to be experienced at taking apart laptops in order to replace anything.
So if i purchase this laptop, i want to get an idea of what i have to look forward to as far as the battery. How many years can i expect it to last before having to replace it? Lenovo said i would have to send it in to be replaced, but im guessing that assumes that i dont know how to do it (which, honestly, i dont). How expensive can i expect it to be to send in my laptop to have the battery replaced? Im expecting it to be around $200 since the battery is probably $100 already.
Since the model i am looking at is already $900, i dont want to spend another $200 every few years. Is that about what i can expect? Has anyone had an experience with the Yoga or similar laptop that might shed some light on this?
Thanks!

For one, you can take extended warranty for upto 3 years with just $100 (I think), so that should put your mind at ease for that much time.
I had Lenovo Y560 and the battery was faulty at arrival. Replaced it free of cost and never had any problem since.
Using Yoga 3 pro for past 4 months and there have been no problems so far. (Battery life 5-6 hours)
Beyond 3 years, no one can really say, mostly on the forum you will find people who have had issues (coz thats why they come here, right). Hope that you can get responses from more customers.
A laptop life is about 3-4 years nowadays, so you need to also look for how many years are you planning to use this one. Beyond 5 years, I think that most hardware becomes obsolete (can only use for basic purposes)

  • What should I expect in quality? Make video better? optimize?

    Hello
I'm using iChat 3.1 for the first time. I have tried using both a AIM account and .mac account. The software works fine for me. My question is
    1) what should I expect in terms of video quality? Is there something out there I can compare it to? I must say it is not the resolution I was expecting. I guess mine looks good as a 3" x 3" screen but strtching it to 12 x 12 is pretty bad. Is this what it's supposed to look like? is there a way to optimize it? I read somewhere that the bad video was a function of AIM? and if you go through this "other way" it will be better. (can't find that info I read!)
2)Alternatively, could I theoretically network my computer and my mom's, and then have a better video session using another video access. (don't know which one or how)
    3) I have also tried using my wireless access and the video is much worse and the audio is delayed, so I switched back to ethernet. Am I doing something wrong?
At this point I would only be videoing with this one other computer.
    thanks for any help

    Hello Gina,
Welcome to apple discussions. The video quality on ichatav depends on many factors:
    1. Bandwidth limitations of your ISP
    2. CPU speed (the faster the better)
    3. The size of the actual chat window (the bigger, the lower the quality) Full screen ichatav can be marginal at best.
    4. Lighting
    5. Unusually fast motion or panning will effect your video quality
    6. Camera quality ... Generally Mini DV cameras capture great quality. In fact they often get significantly better picture quality than most web cams. Firewire cameras are generally far better than most usb devices.
    7. iChat video pref. settings will effect video quality (try setting video preferences to "None").
    8. The connection doctor is a useful tool w/in ichatav. However having it constantly open during a video chat can actually slow the application down a bit and hence may also effect video quality. Check it quickly and then close it after you see all is working as expected. Do not leave it constantly open during a video chat or while attempting to start a video chat.
    9. Having several applications open while video chatting can also effect the quality of your video chat/s.
    10. Hosting a 3 way video conference will run significantly slower and at lower frame rate than video chatting with just one other party at a time.
And according to Ian Bickerstaff, the following also effects quality:
    LIGHTS:
In system preferences ( from the Blue Apple top left of your screen there )
    System preferences > Personal > Desktop&Screensaver > Desktop > Solid Colours.
Select the pure white option ( Its invisible - Just click to the right of the last colour option )
That increases the light thrown onto your face. It also prevents any odd discolouration that can come with using darker back grounds.
Use a local Spot light to light just you in a larger room. Very atmospheric
Use the video preview before you start a video chat to make sure that your image is "up to scratch" Play around with the amount of light and where it is positioned.
    SOUND:
Is the volume set correctly? Setting it at 75% seems to be the best option.
    CAMERA:
If you wear glasses try to get the camera in a position where by the screen does not block out your eyes.
Look at the camera - It sort of implies "making eye contact" - Instead of looking at the screen. Placing the video " window " as near as you can to the camera helps ( thanks Sillydog )
If its a family chat - Place the camera so that all people can be seen and move the microphone ( if you have one ) so all people can be heard.
    ACTION: Not just yet....
Are you sitting comfortably? Is it going to be a long chat? Do you have a drink to hand? Do you know what you want to say?
If there is a phone in the room - Do you want to turn it off to avoid interruption?

  • Starting a career jump...what should my expectations be?

As the title states I'm starting to transition into an IT career and I'm just curious what should my expectations be in terms of starting positions....culture changes...(admittedly a very "30,000 ft" level question.)To help, let me give a little background/current situation: -Went to college got a Bachelor degree. (Not tech related)
-For the beginning of my short work life I've been employed heavily with "mega church" and concert driven large scale productions
-I also have served as an IT Admin/all-in-one staff member for some smaller churches.
-My experience could be equated to what an Network Enginner does. I do a lot of AVL system design. Basically the plumbing behind how all the lights, amps, and cameras tie together in the production. So, I have always had a technical role.

This Question has come up before, but I think the OP was misunderstood. http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/194594-can-an-excel-spreadsheet-be-turned-into-a-fillable-form...I have a group of rather large spread sheets each represents an inventory for a "service"I can use the Form command on the Ribbon to get an Entry form for that flat Database no problem; but that form is absurdly long, and cumbersome. And while I could duplicate the form by hand it seems a waste when Excel can create the form in about a second. What I really need to be able to do is save, and edit; Reorganize the form. So my group can use it for Data Entry, and print copies of the form for the service audit. Your help is hugely appreciated. Tom.

  • I bought my iphone 5s in USA  and now i have come back to my country, India. My iPhone 5s battery needs replacement what should I do?

    Hello!
My iPhone 5s battery needs replacement and I am not sure where to buy it from. I bought the phone when I was in USA but mow I am in my home country India and I am confused how to find an Apple Store in India so that I can get my phone repaired or battery replaced by them.
    Waiting for suggestions.

The Warranty on phones is not international.  You will need to send the phone to someone in the US to start the replacement process (or repair), and when they receive the replacement (repaired device), they will need to send it back to you.

  • My iphone battery randomly started losing battery(3gs)  what should i do?

All of the sudden, my battery on my 3gs started decreasing, what should i do?

I have also experienced the trouble as you have,
With an iPhone 3GS the battery isn't it's best feature but I think this may be the problem:
Since its and older generation of iPhone its external battery only has an X amount of charges before you have to  replace your battery or upgrade,
I'm afraid your battery may need replacing or your apps may be sucking up your battery
    TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS:
    1. When not in a WiFi zone turn off your WiFi and Location Services, these are one of the main battery suckers.
    2. Turn BlueTooth off
    3. After you have finished using an app close it via the Multitasking bar
These are just a few solutions!
    Hope I helped

  • ITA Policies and protection schemas - What should I expect.

Hi all.  I am working on a streaming windows store app the uses a PMP and I need  to apply protection to the output.  I have tried several protection schema to determine if my implementation is correct but the results have not been what I
    expected.
For example for my DVI connection (MFCONNECTOR_DVI) it states that it supports
MFPROTECTION_DISABLE. If I enable it I get a decode error and playback is rejected.  According to the documentation that I have what should have happened is the video rectangle should
have been blanked while the rest of the screen is left unaffected.  If I look at the logs I can see that GetSchemaType() of my IMFOutputSchema implementation object returns the guid MFPROTECTION_DISABLE
and GetConfigurationData() returns the non-zero value that states that it should be enabled.  However I don't see a call to GetOriginatorID().
I have also tried MFPROTECTION_CONSTRICTVIDEO.  In this case GetSchemaType() also returns the appropriate guid and GetConfigurationData() returns a nonzero value stating that it should
be enabled.  For the max number of pixels allowed I set that as a double word attribute MFPROTECTIONATTRIBUTE_CONSTRICTVIDEO_IMAGESIZE set to 50 which equates to 50,000 pixels.  This is all per the documentation I have.  I was expecting the
video to be degraded.  I tried less and more but didn't see an affect. In this case I also don't see the call to GetOrigonatorID().
Have any of you used these protections systems?  What were your observations?  Difficulties?
In the end I have to have HDCP and CGMSA but I need test equipment to verify that its actually working.
    Thanks

AFAIK, these attributes are only compatible with desktop app, I'm not sure if they can work in Store app...

  • What should I expect when opening an SR?

Over this past year, I believe I have opened (4) SR's. One of them was an incredible experience when we lost an entire Cluster Resource and the Novell Engineer helped us in building the new one and taught us much in the course of the rebuild.
My first SR was to finalize our documentation regarding the creation of Cluster Resources. Overall, the assistance was pretty good other than the Tech did not inform me about the use of "Cluster Scan for New Devices." Which ultimately led us to losing an entire Cluster Resource.
A few weeks back I opened a ticket on a CIFs issue that had been bothering us for over a year. While working with the Tech DSTRACES were required. The Tech could not get one to complete properly. I, have only worked with Netware for 2 years, was also not that versed in using DSTRACE. But, after I saw what he was attempting to do I ran the trace and determined the issue on my own. Input that was provided and or suggested at the time was questionable at best. The Tech was also very slow from my perspective in attempting to resolve this issue. It was not a down issue but it would be days between contact at times. Overall, I would have to say this Tech's abilities are not what I feel I should expect when opening an SR with Novell. I feel I should be getting someone with some experience. I feel DSTRACE should be a tool that all Netware Support Tech's should be very well versed in.
And now for my current ticket..... Every since I have been here, we have had issues with not being able to install certificates into our Netware Cluster. I finally took the bull by the horns and opened an SR for this nagging issue. I was initially assigned one Tech and we had a phone conversation regarding the issue that went great and I felt the best way for resolution to be achieved was to write him an email of what we had tried and what we were trying to achieve so we were all on the same page. I did this. A day or so later I received an email from another Tech saying he was taking over my SR because the first Tech was on leave for a while. The second Tech did not have a copy of the email I sent the first. So, yesterday I am working with the new Tech on our Certificate Issue, but all he ended up doing was sending me TID's to read. I have RTFM'd everything I can find on Certificates and Netware Cluster and Resources. We have beaten ourselves about the head on this issue.... When opening an SR should I expect someone to sit there and search through the knowledge base which I have already done, or should I be working with a Tech that actually knows how to resolve the issue? My expectation is the later of the two....

Phillip, sorry we're not making good progress. Sounds like we need a more experienced Support Engineer working with you. Call into the Support line, 1-800-858-4000, and ask to talk to the Mgr. Review the details with the Mgr and they can get a person assigned. This might even need to be escalated to the Backline team, but the Mgr can help determine this with you.

  • What should I expect an Apple Store to do when I purchase a new macbook

I purchased a new Macbook Air and Apple Care for my wife.  She has an iPhone 5 and a Windows computer that has a few files (mostly photos and a few Word files).  What should I have expected from the Apple store when I picked up the Macbook Air?
When we purchased our iPhones we had a one to one session with a sales person to set them up to get mail operational and sync our contacts to our Windows computers that we had at that time.
I ordered the Macbook Air and called the store several days before pickup to find the best time to come in to pick up the Macbook Air.
I expected that now that we had iPhones that they would set up her Apple ID, sync her mail and basically have an apple sales person's attention for about 1/2 hour or so to set up the basic items on her Macbook Air.  After being passed around for a while we ended up with an Apple store employee in a group where we were time shared with about 3 or 4 other people that were asking other unrelated questions.
Is this what I should expect?

I don't want to ask for special treatment.  I am just trying to find out what I should expect the setup experience for a Macbook purchase to be.  The iPhone setup experience taught me to expect an exceptional (by my standards) experience by walking out of the store with working email, Apple ID and an overview of the product  The experience with the setup of my wife's Air was less so.  The reason for me bringing it up here is to see what others have experienced when they purchased a computer and see if mine was the norm.  Of course some people would not need the hand-holding my wife needs and I would expect that would modify their experience also.
For me, the group setting would have probably been OK.  Since she is not a strong tech person, I wanted my wife's experience to be like our iPhone experience (a one-on-one).  What I am trying to find out here is if our experience in setting up her Air is typical.  To be fair, they did offer to take the old Windows computer and new Mac and transfer the Windows computer stuff to the new Air, but I did not want to leave the old computer AND the new Air for several days.  I was really interested in just setting up the Mac specific features such as the Apple ID, the mail client and have my wife get an overview by an Apple person.

  • Other than voicemail what should i expect tp lose when converting from a blackberry phone to iPhone 4s

What sould i expect to lose other than voicemails when i convert to iPhone 4s from a blackberry

    Hello chopper59,
If you've already purchased and received your iPhone 4S, congratulations!  You've made a great choice.
I'd also like to thank the other Community members for the feedback & suggestions.
Just as mentioned earlier, you would lose your voicemail messages, so it is suggested to save the messages you're wanting to keep to another storage device.  There are multiple ways to transfer contacts, depending on how your contacts are currently backed up with your current Blackberry.  For example, if you're using the Backup Assistant application, there is an application on the iPhone called "VZ Contact Transfer" that allows you to move your contacts from Backup Assistant to your iPhone.
I'm including a link with more information about activating and transferring information to an iPhone 4S here:

I hope we have answered your questions, and have addressed your concerns.

  • Selling iBook before I have replacement - what should I back up?

I am selling my iBook G4 so I can buy a newer one. Completing sale before new one arrives. What should I back up so I can transfer as much of my data (e.g. online usernames and passwords, etc.) before I wipe it clean? I have an external hard drive with plenty of space to hold it, I'm just not sure what to back up other than the obvious music, photo and document folders. Any help much appreciated. thanks

    AliciainCinti:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If your external HDD is a Firewire drive, and if it is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) you can use SuperDuper to make a bootable clone of your entire HDD. This will preserve everything on your internal HDD exactly the way it is now.
After you have cloned your HDD, and you are sure the clone works, zero all data on your internal HDD, install Tiger and shut down before the setting up. When the new owner opens it, the set up wizard will lead them through the set up process. Be sure to include all the discs that came with your computer to the new owner.
Please do not hesitate to post back with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • What should I expect from RT Extreme?

I just setup FCE 4 on my Mac Pro Tower (2.8 Ghz Quad-Core, 4 GB RAM). I'm using it to work with the AVCHD files from my new Canon HF100 that are recorded at 1920 x 1080. I'm importing the clips with the Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 in order to retain the highest quality so I can output them to HD DVD. However RT Extreme reports that it cannot play these clips which have no effects or adjustments without dropping frames. Is that what I should expect? Certainly RT Unlimited mode gives a working alternative but I guess I wasn't expecting that the native files wouldn't be playable.
Am I just expecting to much?
(BTW - I've compared the data rate of the native files to the render files; its about 95 mbits/s for the native and 56 mbits/s for the render files. Maybe that reveals the answer.)
    Thanks!

"So FCE cannot work with 1080p, correct, just 1080i?"
Maybe, maybe not. There are other factors involved and the frame size compression doesn't have anything to do with whether it's progressive or interlaced.
    1. Not sure where you got that from. AVCHD is an extraordinarily heavily compressed format. AIC using far less compression compared to the original.
    2. The progressive or interlace function should have no effect on the rendering requirements only the frame size.
    3. Actually your storage requirements for AIC will be about 10 times greater than the native AVCHD media.

  • Power adapter almost caught fire today, what should I expect from Apple??

I had been having some little niggles with my adaptor over the last week or two. It started of with the cable being lose, and dropping the charge at the slightest movement, this was rather irritating, as I no battery, due to the recall. The problem continued and got worse. For the last few days, the charger has failed to work at all at some times, and at others, the power has been flickering on and off.
But today, I picked up the charger, and it started sparking, with smoke coming out of it!!
    I imediatly unplugged it.
Considering this computer is only 1 year old, I am very angered at having a, quite frankly, rather dangerous and unusable charger. And since I have about 40mins left till my laptop is unusable, I need a new charger, quick!
I hope Apple will replace my charger, free of charge (pardon the pun) as it is unreasonable for the charger to last this long. I am unsure if I am still covered by my warrenty, I bought the laptop about a year ago.
I will be a VERY angry customer if Apple does not fix the problem!!
Take this as a warning - the Powerbook power adaptors can become dangerous!

Whilst browsing, I came across this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2569334&#2569334
I have been having the same problems, and that could have been the cause of my charger shorting and almost cathing fire - be warned!

  • Hello Mac! Goodbye Pc! What should I expect?

    Hello!!
I'm buying a Mac soon and I would like to know what to expect.
I have not found anything that tells me what to expect.
I play WoW. Do I need to buy new WoW software to install on my Mac.
I know that I won't need a firewall or virus protection but are ya'll sure?
Is it possible to have a home network with my new Mac and my PC? I am throwing caution to the wind sorta but old habits die hard.
I do not want to run any Pc programs on my new Mac, either. See ya Windows, I gotta new attitude! Thanks for the help, I can't wait to read your responses.

No, you don.t need anything new to play WoW - Dunsdraep (Priest), Darkmoon Faire European Realm. See TBOE.EpicMount.Com for more details Just reinstall from your original disks - I think Blizzard only issue dual Mac & PC disks now.
You might want to have a look at the Switcher page for more Windows to Mac general info:
    http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/
and for general Mac info there is:

You'll need to find you way around these Forums to get the best out of them - this one is for Feedback about the actual Discussions Forums as a whole - read the big red notice at the top please. When you get back to the top level you'll find many categories and you need to drill down into an actual Forum before you can post a question - that gets many people confused!
When you get your Mac just take things slowly, enjoy even unpacking it, and then fill in your Public Profile details with your new acquisition so that we can see what you have, and also offer relevant advice.
    Welcome to a new World!

ps No anti-virus software here but ClamXav is the one usually recommended. If you're going for MobileMe there is software called Backup (for the obvious). And another piece of software I use can be found at http://www.wowmatrix.com/
