Flex 3 Standard vs Educational

I have had the educational version of Flex for a while now and last week I got Web Premium and applied for the free flex standard edition but does anyone know the difference between the two?

I run into the same problem.
For me it was the only option available at the adobe online store (upgrade Flex3 -> FlashBuilder4 Premium)
so the registration number didn't work, saying that i have the wong product to upgrade (Flex3 standard)
I had to open a case for software destruction to get a refund for what i've allready payed and if i want the FlashBuilder4 serial i have to re-buy it at the online store
Custumer support told that this is the only solution.
It's a little bit annoying.
That is not a critic to the support team (was very friendly) it's just annoying that i can't get a standad serial for my purchase and that i have to wait some weeks to get the refund...
So be carefully while purchasing the upgrade and look twice to choose the right option at the store.
(Hopfully the right option is now available...)

Flash builder 4 upgrade from Flex 3 Standard

Hiya.
I would like to know from Adobe if the upgrade options available a wrong or not? I've just bought an upgrade from FB3 Standard to FB4 Preminum (from Eligibility chart is SEEMS possible). The installer when I entered my FB3 Standard serial says it's wrong. At this point the possible answers are two for me: the upgrade processes on the site is wrong or there's something wrong with the installer. A would like a clarification as soon as possible.

Adobe CS6 Design Standard Education stopped working

I own CS6 Design Standard for education. It used to work. Now it opens the Adobe Application Manager and asks me to renew my cloud membership. I don't have a cloud membership. I don't want a cloud membership. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with my approved serial number and was told it was successful. How do I get my software to work again?

uninstall your cs6 and any cc software.
run the cleaner for both cs6 and cc, http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
then use the cs6 (non-cc) installers.

Synchornizing a local browser with remote browsers with Flex

I saw this done in a demonstration of the capabilities of
Flex on my Google Educational Videos feed. It was described as a
sample application to show the capabilities of Flex, so I think it
might be possible. Is there an application like this out there
already?

You need a crossdomain.xml to give you permission to access it.
A simple "let any SWF access me" way adding this crossdomain.xml to your sites root folder:

AmChart Vs Flex Professional

Hi,
Iam already using Flex's Standard edition and planning to move to professional.The basic idea for this move is I want to create realistic dynamic graphs/charts in my application using either CSV or XML.I happen to go through AmCharts(http://extra.amcharts.com/editor/line/).After going through this site I find my Amcharts graphs are more close to my requirements.Can any one help me to know whether can I design same graphs as Amcharts using Flex Professional(I better know that there might not be any direct component present in Amchart).

Flex 2.01 Update Problems

I TRIED installing the Flex 2.01 update. My configuration is
Windows XP SP2 and I was running Flex Builder 2.0 (Educational
Version). I downloaded the Windows update from here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flex/2/install.html
(144 MB download).
After the download completed, I ran the downloaded file
(named flexbuilder2_201updater.exe) and went through the process of
installing FlexBuilder 2.01. The installer needed to restart my
computer before completing the process. After my computer
restarted, I expected to see the installer tell me it was finished.
But I never got any more messages from the installer.
So, after waiting a few minutes, I ran Flex Builder. Still
said 2.0 on the splash screen. I went to Help - Product Details and
then clicked on Feature Details and saw that my Flex Builder 2 Core
is 2.0.143459 and so is my Flex Builder 2 Standalone.
However, when I try to open one of my Flex projects I get an
error message!!! The MXML editor is not available!!!
So I closed Flex Builder and ran the download again. Only now
I get the message that an existing Flex Builder installation was
not found and the installer will not run!!!
I'm now going to try reinstalling the original software!!! I
knew I should NOT have tried to do this on a Friday afternoon.

Thanks for alerting us to this problem, and I'm sorry it
wasn't an easy update for you. We haven't seen this happen before,
so want to gather more information if you can provide it. Can you
post the installer logs resulting from the failed attempt, if you
still have that folder available?
Also, you mentioned that the installer prompted you to reboot
in the middle of the update. That's highly unusual, and probably
related to why it didn't go smoothly. Normally, the installer will
only prompt for a reboot if you're trying to update a copy of Flex
Builder that's still running, though the installer usually displays
strong warning messages to quit the program before updating. Do you
recall whether that was the case?

Flex Poll Source

I was curious if anyone has come across an updated version of

I still see it in there in its own project (frameworks/projects/wireframe).
The modules folder is the source for the compiler and other tools and is not included in the Open Source SDK. It is included in the full Flex SDK. Apache Flex should be receiving a copy of the source though.

Education IT0022 free text for Education/training

Dear Gurus
I'm trying to change a standard field Education/training from a drop down to a free text... Can anyone give some input as to if ths is possible.. or do i need to create a new field for this ?

Field AUSBI (Education/Training) is a Non-Modifiable field. I dont think you can change it to free text field.

3-year warranty for UK Higher education for free

If you order a mac from the U.K's higher education website (university/ over the phone) you get three years warranty + one year phone support for FREE. This is not Applecare.
Applecare = Three years warranty + Three years phone support. This will cost you, but alot cheaper if you are under higher education. E.g I brought an Aluminium iMac and Applecare costed me only £45(normal price £139 I think). To take advantage of this price, you must buy Applecare uplift - EMEA CC- HE CONTRACT UPLIFT(at bottom of customising your mac page) the same time as your mac.
Last year I didn't know the difference so I didn't buy Applecare uplift for my Macbook, but wish I had. You should buy it because after your phone support expires, the only way Apple will fix it if you take it to an official store, where with Applecare you can phone in for free and they collect your mac from you, fix it and return it to you for free.
e.g I had a faulty battery during my one year free phone service. I called them up and they sent me a new battery. If my phone service expired after one year, I would of had to bring my macbook to the store (calling them without phone support would cost like £35). Also you may need to make an appointment online before you can take your mac to the store.
Macbook's Applecare cost roughly £52 if I remember, but Applecare for Macbooks to the public cost £200.
If you buy Applecare the coverage is global, but the standard higher education warranty isn't I think.

Touch ID recommended for education?

Are Apple devices with Touch ID recommended for education? FERPA (privacy act for parents) protects students from having their records mishandled. Where does biometric information get stored?

I'm having a hard time convincing central office that the biometrics is not stored in the cloud since there isn't enough official data to refute that. Only report of their patent requests. The standard in education is high so unless I can disable it completely with apple configurator then we will not be able to purchase them.

How to COMPLETELY UNINSTALL Flex 3?

I had Flex 3 Standard installed on a pc. I uninstalled it 1

we bougth 2 new Flex 3 Professional licenses. When we try
installing the pro version on this computer, it defaults back to
the standard license #, and since my new PRO copies are a full
license I haven't been able to use the professional utilities. I've
made like 12 calls to half of India by now, and they all seem to
want to sell me gold, bronze, silver packages. They say I'm being
connected to tech support, but I get sales everytime.
My question is. How can I COMPLETELY UNINSTALL FLEX from my
computer? I don't want lingering serial files, or anything that
prevents me from installing a professional version. Before you ask,
yes all my copies are legit as the 12+ phone calls have verified,
reverified, and recorded. Please help!!

New Flex Developer needs advice...

Hey guys. I'm currently working for my University as a Web
Developer; when I first started a couple of months ago, I had no
idea Flex even existed. So when I got hired, I had to take a crash
course of Flex 2 by checking the online tutorials and the adobe
sites. So far I've done some small applications that used
ColdFusion remoting, but now the project has grown bigger.
They want us to create a virtual classroom application in
Flex, pretty standard stuff where teachers can create assignments,
grade them, and students can log in and actually work on the
assignments within the application. They also want other additional
functionality.
The problem is that I have no experience using Flex 2 for
such a big application, and I really have no idea where to start
and how to layout the whole design. I know how to make simple
applications with a couple of popups and components, but at this
scale im really lost.
Can you guys suggest a good book that will lead me through a
sample application at this scale (no simple exercises)? Is the
Lynda.com training the best?

FB4 Premium Edu. upgrade-confusion

After discussing with several licensing resellers and the Adobe licensing support itself I'm even more confused than before, you guys at Adobe definately don't make it easy upgrading or even buying an education version of FB4 Premium
What I currently have
- Flex Builder 2 Pro. edu license
- Free Flex Builder 3 Pro edu license from freeriatools.adobe.com
- Extended FB 4 Premium Beta 2 Key
What I would like to have
- Flash Builder 4 Premium education

Ok, our education volume licensing reseller was completely confused about the name change, however they offer three products:
- FB4 Premium Upgrade from CF-Builder
- FB4 Premium from Flex Builder 2 / 3 Professional ( unbelievable cheap price of USD 40.- )
- FB4 Premium from FB4 Standard
However I have never heard of an upgrade option from Flex Builder 2 to Flash Builder 4 Premium and they were not able telling me if the freeriatools-key will work for an upgrade.
Also they were not able telling me if I can get the Free FB4 Standard for education version and then upgrade to FB4 Premium education and there don't seems to be an option buying the FB4 Premium edition directly, they just offer upgrade versions.
So they told me I will have to give the Adobe licensing center a call.

Hoping to get an answer to this question as well - I work at a university and have been using Flex 3 with a key from freeriatools on a daily basis for programming everything (Flash, PHP, HMTL, Javascript, XML, etc etc etc) seems like. I received my freeriatools key for Flash Builder 4 only to find out it was for the Standard edition, not allowing use of the memory profiling for Flash - making me wonder what else will be disabled when I go to build stuff - not sure why this was done as it wasn't disabled in Flex 3 for edu. As the decider for my team if we are going to move to FB4 I'm staying Flex 3 until the vendors and adobe figure out what they are going to do for educational versions of FB4.

Problems with Adobe Acrobat - last resort!

I've tried at the Adobe Macintosh forum, but haven't had any advice that's helped, so thought I'd try here!...
I have Adobe CS3 Design Standard Suite, Educational version, running on OS X 10.5.5 on my MacBook Pro.
1 - I cannot update Acrobat from 8.0.0...I get an error that 'the patch has failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed'. Actually it hasn't, and the repair installation or a full re-installation (3 times so far) make no difference.
2 - the Adobe PDF printer vanished from system prefs...I ran repair installation to replace it, but I cannot now print using the printer. Every document pauses the printer, then when I resume printing I get an error 'operation could not be completed, client-error-not-possible'
This is what I have tried...NONE of the below items has worked...
1 - in Acrobat Help>Repair installation
2 - re-install Acrobat
3 - uninstall and re-install the entire CS3 suite (using the Adobe uninstall utility)...have tried 3 times so far
4 - run CS3 Clean Script after the uninstall to delete all the remaining files - after using this, when I tried to re-install the suite, the installer program thought Acrobat was already installed (even though I had just removed it!), so I couldn't select it! I had to install the rest of the suite, then run the installer again, at which time I could select Acrobat and install that?
5 - uninstall, check/repair permissions, run CS3 clean script and re-install - all when logged as root user - everything installed OK, but when I tried to run the updater, I got an error that only users with admin privileges could run updater...and that was when logged in as root
Any ideas, anyone...please?

Why can't i see the information entered into a PDF form that was created?

I have created a fillable form and when the individuals complete the form and send it back, it shows blank until you click in each box, but you can't print it off with all of their information as it doesn't show on the print? Did i do something wrong when i created it?

This is typically an issue when a person uses a non-Acrobat product (Preview on the Mac or NitroPDF on Windows, for instance) to fill out the PDF form.
Somewhere at the beginning of your form, let the users know they must use Adobe's free Reader or one of their commercial products: Acrobat Standard (for education) or Acrobat Pro to complete the form. That, or just convert it to a web form, with instructions for them to print each page as they move along.
There could be a different reason, but this is the most common.
