  • CS5 Extension Builder and Indesign Server ?

    Hello,
    Is it possible to write an extension with CS5 Extension Builder for Indesign Server? It works fine with Indesign Desktop for me, but I'm ot sure for the Server version. Spend time to search on the web, without results.Just found this note in "indesign_cs5_server_scripting_guide.pdf" : You can use the  ExtendScript Toolkit to create JavaScript scripts explicitly for InDesign  Server, or you can use the Creative Suite Extension Builder (CS Extension  Builder) to develop CS extensions in ActionScript. CS extensions are  Flash-based (SWF) and can potentially work in a variety of Creative Suite  applications.
    Many thanks in advance,
    David

    Hello,
    Thanks a lot for the answer. This is not good news for us, but again, thanks for the answer.
    In few words, we are a leading French software editor (www.perigee.fr). Our software is a database that works with Indesign (using a C++ plugin), and manage pictures, text blocs, tables from PIM & DAM mgt.
    We are working on a brand new software suite that will be based on both Indesign and Indesign Server. We intend to develop the Indesign UI in ActionScript and CS5 Extension Builder.
    On the model side, we need something that works as well on both platforms. We tested several solutions (C++, Javascript) so far but we came to the conclusion that it would be ideal to use ActionScript.
    If there is no solution for AS and Indesign Server, we'll have to mix four programming languages in our solution (Java, C++, ActionScript and some JavaScript). Alternatively we could delay part of our project depending on the availability of AS on Indesign Server.
    We really like ActionScript and CS5 Extension Builder, and hopefully a solution to stay on our preferred languages: ActionScript and Java.
    We also explored the full Java/Corba option but it is not supported on the non-server side. And, again, we believe that ActionScript is the best solution.
    I hope our problem is clearer now.
    Do you see anything we may have missed?
    Thanks in advance for your answer!

  • SSL and indesign server - soap communications.

    Does anyone know if (and how) you could use SSL to talk to indesign server using soap.  The gSoap library (that I believe indesign server uses) has some support but needs compiling to include it, so I'm assuming it isn't included but would like to know for sure.
    Thanks
    Ian

    Hi folks!
    A typical scenario I'll encounter at customers regularly is that they have SSL only until the Webcache in the DMZ , as Jon has described. You could create real end-to-end security. The connection to the OHS in the middle tier and even to the infrastructure can use SSL.
    When you want to have the database connection encrypted you'll need the Adv. Security option. The protocol between the middle tier and your database is usually using SQLNet or JDBC. For these you need the Advanced Security option.

  • Flex and Windows Server 2003 and MSSQL

    Hi everyone,
    I tried to connect to MSSQL using PHP. I did not get any
    error message but the only problem is when I try to test the
    problem, I get this error message. Everything works fine on my
    local computer "developer", but when I try to program and test on
    my Windows Server 2003, I get this error message:
    ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property loginsuccess not found
    on String and there is no default value.

    Can someone please help me, I really need to figure this out
    for my company.

    a string value is being read checkLogin() when its expecting
    an object with property loginsuccess.
    maybe its a typo or something in your code.
    for example you may have place:
    var.loginsuccess == "loginsuccess";
    in which it should be:
    var == "loginsuccess";

    I am curious where you got the tutorial, and which version of InDesign Server you are using. Also, can you show the contents of the businesscards.jsx script?
    In the meantime, it seems like the connection from Flex to InDesign is working since your script is running and producing output. The next step is to check the arguments being passed to the script, and how the script is accessing and using the arguments.
    You can add this to your jsx script to test the values of the arguments:
    var myName = app.scriptArgs.IsDefined("name") ? app.scriptArgs.getValue("name") : "name undefined";
    app.consoleout("scriptArg name = " + myName);
    var myCompany = app.scriptArgs.IsDefined("company") ? app.scriptArgs.getValue("company") : "company undefined";
    app.consoleout("scriptArg company = " + myCompany);
    var myTitle = app.scriptArgs.IsDefined("title") ? app.scriptArgs.getValue("title") : "title undefined";
    app.consoleout("scriptArg title = " + myTitle);
    To see the values, watch the InDesign Server console window. If you are not getting the values you expect, check your mxml code to make sure the variable names are valid, etc. If you are getting the values you expect, examine your businesscards.jsx to make sure you are using the values as required to populate the InDesign document.

  • Can I export a PDF in InDesign Server and return it to the calling client?

    Using Java/CORBA between a client machine and InDesign Server, I would like to:
    1. Make a remote call to InDesign server  to create a document, passing IDML as a parameter on the call
    2. Make another remote call to InDesign server to export a PDF, returning the PDF on the call return.
    Is this possible? I notice that the doExport method does not return a PDF to the calling client. Instead, it saves the PDF on the server. I don't see any apis which would allow me to do the above.
    The use case here is a web application which need to "preview" an image. The image consists of a template and some variable data which is sent to an InDesign server for composition and is returned as an image.
    Thanks for any help.

    I fail to see the issue. You have added crop marks, have you not? For all intents and purposes those are marks that are supposed to be visible and printable for cutting in the real world. If you don't want them, don't use them. Acrobat can generate them on the fly for printing, anyway.

  • 5.0.2 dot release available for InDesign Server

    The 5.0.2 Dot Release for InDesign, InCopy and InDesign Server is now live on Adobe.com and available through Help>Updates. This update provides key fixes in the areas of Anchored Objects, Character Alignment, Step and Repeat, Indexing and Table of Contents, Text and Fonts, Dictionaries, Color, Scripting, Import/Export Graphics, InDesign Interchange files (INX), XML, Library files, Printing, and others.
    For a full list of resolved issues, please see the Adobe InDesign CS3 5.0.2 ReadMe.pdf at http://www.adobe.com/go/id5_readme.
    This installer includes fixes from all previously released InDesign CS3 5.0.x updates. Note that the previous InDesign 5.0.x updates are no longer available separately.

    Kuassi,
    I see that files "javadoc.zip" and "demo.zip" report the same file sizes for both 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.1 versions. Are the 10.2.0.2 versions of these files identical to the 10.2.0.1 versions?
    Thanks,
    Avi.

  • InDesign Server CS3 Debug verion

    I have recently downloaded ID Debug version and installed it, before i start using this i thought i would ask a question here.
    is there any difference between debug version and release version of ID? if my main intention is to evaluate to see if ID server has the features that i am looking for, does it make any difference which version i use?
    i reviewed documentation provided in 'intro_to_indesign_cs3_server.pdf' and this document applies to the debug version too?
    apprecate your reply.

    AFAIK there is no functional difference server debug and release. You may find things slower with the debug build due to additional checks performed, and since additional checks means more/different code it is possible for bugs to exist in one version but not the other - though I don't know of anywhere this applies.
    I'm not sure from the question though - are you asking for the difference between InDesign server debug/release or the difference between InDesign debug and InDesign Server release - there are a whole load of differences there...

  • InDesign Server CC

    We are looking at developing a Windows Service application using the InDesign SDK.  With the current version of InDesign CC, we cannot do this because the application must be running in UI mode after a user has logged into Windows.  InDesign Server would meet our requirements (user does not need to log in to Windows to run the application), but it is only available in CS6.  From what we understand, we cannot mix InDesign CC and InDesign Server CS6 as the INDD file saved with CC cannot be opened with CS6.  Is there going to be a CC version of InDesign Server?
    We will also be looking at creating another Windows Service application that interacts with PhotoShop.  Do you know if PhotoShop has the same restrictions as InDesign in terms of needing to log on to Windows to use the application through the SDK?
    Thanks,
    Jody

    Thanks Norio.  I found what I was looking for at:  http://www.adobe.com/ca/products/indesignserver.html.

  • InDesign Server CS5.5 installation issue

    I am developing solution using InDesign Servers via COM which is hosted on Windows Server 2008 R2. And I am experiencing problem utilizing CS 5.5 server:
    When InDesign Server CS5.5 is installed on Windows Server 2008  (64bit) its COM component is registered with following parameters: CLSID = {96D10A00-63E3-423e-A223-DFC4BEA21206}, ProgId =  InDesignServer.Application.CS5.
    The problem is that those are the same parameters that are used for InDesign Server CS5 COM component. And therefore I can't have CS5 and CS5.5 installed on the same server, which is required for solution I am deleloping.
    Has anyone experienced that problem or maybe know some workaround for it?
    Meanwhile, When InDesign Server CS5.5 is installed on Windows 7 (32bit) its COM component is registered with unique parameters: CLSID ={34701EBC-5975-411C-8A45-E78E0934AADD}  and ProgId = InDesignServer.Application.CS5.5

    Hi Alexey
    I'm having trouble doing exactly what you say you have done.
    I'm trying to run InDesign Server CS5 and InDesign Server CS5.5 on the same Windows 2008 r2 64bit installation. InDesign Servers are Single Instance.
    I am only allowed to run one InDesign Server at once - not both.
    Is this possible for you or any other in this forum?
    Thanks in advance,

  • [IDS Win]How to flush Indesign server.

    Hi All,
    I am using Indesign server to create documents which contains text, images & tables. My job is to create & export documents to pdf. Document are sometimes contains 300 plus pages. And cs2 server process this jobs one after the other in queue ..may be 100 jobs in a queue. Here after certain amount of time a 'out of memory' error comes up and Indesign server gets crashed(its around after processing 30-40 jobs).
    I have taken care to delete all allocated meomary in my program through New- delete pair. Still after each job allocated memory to Indesign keeps increasing.
    Is there any way so that I can purge memory from Indesign after my job complition? I tried to use 'PurgeMemory' over IDocumentList but its not that effective.
    Any suggestions are most welcommed!
    Thanks,
    Rahul.

    Well, it's been two years since the last activity in this thread, and I am having this exact same problem with InDesign Server CS4.
    I have a .NET web application that calls the IDS through SOAP and simply tells it to run a JavaScript.  In simple terms, the script opens an InDesign file, imports some XML, makes some minor formatting changes, and exports the PDF to the filesystem.  The .NET webapp then receives the status message and redirects the user directly to the finished PDF which they can then view/save/etc.
    This all works perfectly, but while it's running, I see the memory usage of InDesignServer.exe spike by several MB, and then it settles back down to a still-higher-than-initial value. Eventually, the InDesignServer.exe is taking up several hundred MB and my server starts giving out-of-memory errors.
    I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Like the original poster asked, it appears as though I should be flushing something that I am not. I've researched this "ErrorList" that was referenced, and my memory "leak" seems to be bigger than this (although I could be wrong), but I can't find anything in the language reference on how to programmatically flush this after each document. I'm not even sure if this is the culprit.
    Can anybody help? Many many thanks in advance
    The contents of my JavaScript is as follows (and you'll see that I'm closing the document each time):

  • Deployment of Flex app to web and app server

    Hi
    I'm working on putting a Flex front-end on an existing J2EE
    app which gets deployed as an ear file. The architecture consists
    of web server, app server and database server. Is the following
    approach to deployment possible / recommended?
    My Flex app will be deployed to the web server. The J2EE ear
    file will be deployed to the app server (Weblogic). BlazeDS will be
    bundled within the ear file as a war file. Remote Objects will be
    configured in my BlazeDS configuration files to enable me to access
    the code in my J2EE app. In the compiler options of my Flex app,
    I'll be setting the server root folder and server root URL to point
    to the BlazeDS war file on my app server.
    At present I'm at the stage where I can run my Flex app
    directly from Flex builder on my development PC and it's able to
    connect tto the J2EE app, which is running on the app server
    (Weblogic) also on my development PC. I can't find documentation
    explaining how to extend this to work on a multi-tier architecture.
    Thanks
    David

  • JS InDesign Server CS2 - Search and Replace

    I am struggling to get a search and replace script to work on InDesign Server CS2.
    This works on my Desktop CS2:
    app.documents[0].search('xxx', false, false, 'yyy');
    but not through InDesign Server CS2.
    Can any one please help.
    Thanks
    Simon Kemp

    Thanks for all of the replies.
    This situation is that the company I work for has decided to consolidate some of the duties of our graphics departments.  People in one location will be dummying documents for people at another location.
    The paths to the images are UNC paths, which means they're pointing to different shares on different servers.  This cannot be changed.
    Also, the images at either location may not exist until days after the dumming process.
    During the dummying process, the application that's used to build the pages places empty ad boxes (placeholders) on the page.  The placeholders are text frames.
    I don't understand in what way, but the paths to the images are hidden inside the InDesign file.  From the users' standpoint, the placeholders simply display basic information about the ad (customer name, ad number, etc.) and hold the position for the images that will be placed later.
    It is not using script labels to apply the paths.
    So, this is why I describe the problem as needing to do a search and replace inside the InDesign file.
    As I mentioned before, I know this is doable.  I think I now see that the problem problem is figuring out how these hidden paths are being applied in the document.  My only thought was script labels, but this is not the case...
