Flex Builder 3 Eclipse Plugin
Flex Builder 3 Eclipse Pluginのダウンロードができません。サポートが終了したのでしょか?
I'm not quite sure what has gone wrong here, but can you
please try launching with the "-clean" command line option? E.g.
from the command line:
eclipse -clean
or
flexbuilder -clean
Some background, in case it helps: Although I don't know why
this has happened, it appears that a DLL is missing. Almost all of
Flex Builder is written in Java, but there are a few bits of native
code. In your "plugins" directory (e.g. "C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\plugins", or ""C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\eclipse\plugins", something like
that) should be either a file or a directory called
com.adobe.flexbuilder.utils.osnative_3.0.*.jar (where "*" is a
six-digit number). Inside that jar file, among other things, should
be a file called os/win32/x86/JNIToNativeBridge.dll. Please note,
there are two plugins with similar names:
com.adobe.flexbuilder.utils.osnative, and
com.adobe.flexbuilder.utils.osnative.win. The one I am referring to
here is the one that does *not* have "win" in the name.
Eclipse caches lots of stuff; one thing it does is, if it
finds a DLL in a plugin, it sometimes copies that DLL to another
place, called the configuration directory. The "-clean" option
tells Eclipse to discard its cache.
Please let me know whether this resolves the problem.

Flex Builder Eclipse Plugin install
I am trying to install the Flex builder eclipse plugin and
when I choose the path to eclipse, the installer gives me a warning
the root folder must contain the subfolder configuration. My path
is /Developer/Applications/eclipse. there is a subfolder
configuration. I have permission to the folders. The gui installer
under the title "Please Choose an Existing Eclipse Folder" displays
"eclipse" in the folder "Applications" on the disk "Macintosh HD".
Is the installer looking at /Application, not
/Developer/Applications?I installed the plugin on another eclipse and copied over the
adobe com folders and jars to the features, plugins, and
configuration folders of my eclipse install -
Is the Flex Builder Eclipse Plugin Free?
I posted this quesiton in Flex Builder 2 forum but I thought
maybe it's a bit more appropriate here. If not I apologize.
I'm a total beginner to Flex and Eclipse but I'm just curious
if the Flex Builder Eclipse Plugin is free or do I still need to
purchase the $499 license in order to use it? I'm trying to figure
out what I'm going to use to build my Flex apps and I'd like a nice
IDE like Dreamweaver or CFEclipse with the nice prompts and other
features but $499 is quite steep just to get my feet wet.Jason,
Yes you still need to purchase - you can install the product
as a full install, or as an eclipse plug in. Trying the 30 day
trial for getting your feet wet is the only option currently. Take

Extending Flex Builder - eclipse plugin
I'm trying to find out more about writing Eclipse Plugins
that extend Flex Builder.
I've taken a look at the 'Adobe Flex Builder 3 Extensibility'
section of the Flex Builder help files and didn't find them that
helpful.
For example, at the moment I'm trying to get my new Eclipse
command to call the adt binary file in the user's chosen default
Flex SDK. So some immediate questions arise:
1) Which Flex or Eclipse class contains the filesystem
reference to the user's default Flex sdk so that I can call 'adt'
with user entered parameters?
2) Are there any tutorials or resources on extending Flex
Builder with custom Eclipse plugins apart from the limited Adobe
documentation?Jason,

Can't install Flex Builder 2 plugin in Eclipse 3.3/Europa
[I hope Adobe reads these forums. I tried to submit this as a
customer service request, but the customer service request form
kept telling my I had to enter my First Name, Last Name, and Email
address, even though I _had_ entered them!]
I can't seem to install the Flex Builder 2 plugin in Eclipse
3.3/Europa. I had it installed fine in 3.2/Callisto. I uninstalled
it from there, installed Europa, then tried to install the plugin.
After I selected the Eclipse folder, I got the error:
"Please choose an existing Eclipse folder (3.1 or greater) to
be updated. This folder must contain eclipse.exe and the standard
folder named "configuration"."
All three conditions (3.1 or greater, eclipse.exe and
configuration) hold in my case, so I don't know what the real
problem is.Actually it's quite simple. But you have to be warned. This
doesn't guarantee a bug free Eclipse setup and it isn't supported
by Adobe in any way. It is how-ever your only shot at getting
Eclipse with Flex Builder 2 AND php-development support, as Zend
has stopped deploying the php-development-requirement for Eclipse
3.2 (or at least I haven't found it in their archives.)
Flex Builder 2 simply checks for some files to see if the
directory you want to install to exist, so it recognizes the
directory as an Eclipse 3.1+ directory. Eclipse 3.3 however misses
the file startup.jar. If you simply copy startup.jar from an
Eclipse 3.2 directory into the 3.3 directory, Flex Builder 2 will
install in the 3.3 directory.
Again. This is not supported in any way by Adobe.
For more info, Google on: eclipse-3.3 Flex-builder-2
startup.jar
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=eclipse-3.3+Flex-builder-2+startup.jar
Kind regards.
PS. I would still like to have an Adobe Representative answer
the simple question: Is Adobe or is Adobe not working on getting
Flex Builder 2 to work on Eclipse 3.3? A simple yes or no will
suffice. -
Flex Builder 3 plugin Installer extract issue
I downloaded Flex Builder 3 plugin for Windows today and
tried to run in. The InstallerAnyWhere has a popup saying "Please
select another location to extract the installer to" but no matter
what location on my file system I select it still keeps asking the
same question. Only option is to cancel the install at this point.
Anybody knows when this will be fixed?Looks like our company firewall corrupts the download. I got
access toa version somebody downloaded at home and that worked
properly. -

Did you try the phenomenon with different browsers and/or the appletviewer too ? Maybe it is only a problem of the plugin class loader. How did you convert to Java 1.4 ? I always use a HTML template with an <applet> tag and then use htmlconverter from the JDK to convert it to the needed JRE.

Unable to set verbose stacktraces in Flex Builder 2.01
If I set the compiler option -verbose-stacktraces=true, in
the Problems listing in Flex Builder Eclipse Plugin 2.01, I get the
following error message:
quote:
configuration variable 'compiler.verbose-stacktraces' must
only be set once
This suggests that it is already set somewhere, but I can't
find it in the configuration files or in any gui option settings. I
would really like to get line numbers in the stack traces and by
default they don't seem to be turned on. Any ideas on how to fix
this?I think your facing this problem for standalone FLEX application & for projects in workspace, Flex compiler is getting compiling information from
..\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\sdks\2.0.1\frameworks\flex-config.xml for such projects.
& for Web projects it refers project\WEB-INF\flex\flex-config.xml
You can try to modify setting in this file. Hope this will work for you.

Basic flex builder download problem
I downloaded and used flex builder standalone trial version 3 days ago, before removing it to install flex builder eclipse plugin which is what I should have downloaded initially.
Now I keep getting a cryptic message ['an error has occurred'] when trying to download the plugin version. I know other people who are not having this problem. Is it caused by the fact that builder was already installed?
What is the quickest way of sorting it out from the UK?
ThanksSo it sounds like you had to create an Adobe account first.

Flex 3.2 & 3.3 Framework Issue w/ Eclipse Plugin
Hey Guys,
I'm having an issue with using the 3.2 and 3.3 frameworks with the eclipse plugin (not an issue with the stand alone flex builder) (eclipse v3.3.2). Pretty much everything works but the code hinting and auto importing doesn't work on some items. For example anything in the "flash" package structure (ie: Event) will not import, and even worse within actionscript files, if the imports are manually typed out, the next time it does auto import something it'll actually run clean up on the file and delete the manually typed imports. Also when typing out in mxml certain components, for example an mx:Button, the code hinting will not recognize certain attribues such as "click". At compile time all is well and works fine as long as everything is manually typed in there. Of course to really be an efficient coder manually typing and retyping certain imports over and over is not the answer.
Thanks in advance!
~JamieI've been using the FB Eclipse plugin (with Eclipse 3.4 and SDK 3.2.0) quite a bit and haven't had this problem at all, so I'm just taking a stab in the dark here to try to help. It sounds to me like there might be an incorrect setting in your Flex Build Path properties or something related. Make sure your project has the correct Flex SDK selected in the Library path, and make sure all the .swc files are showing up underneath it. In particular, look for playerglobal.swc (that's the file that contains e.g. flash.events.Event).
If that doesn't help, you really need to provide a little more information in your question, like:
What have you already tried doing to fix the problem? (For example, have you completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the Flex Builder Plugin since switching SDKs? I didn't need to do this the last time I upgraded the SDK, but I'd say it's worth a try, since the installation process is pretty painless.)
Have you changed any of the Flex settings in Eclipse?
If you're working with a project you created previously, have you tried creating a brand new Flex project in Eclipse to see if the problem persists in a new project? -
Developing Flex outside of Eclipse plugin environment?
I'm curious to know how many of those doing actual Flex development are working with the SDK directly and not using the Flash Builder Eclipse platform?
While the design view aspect of the plugin is nice, I'm finding that I'm spending most of my time directly in the code and less in the design view. In fact, I'm getting somewhat frustrated by the design mode since there are feature that I would have expected that are simply not provided.I'm not quite sure what has gone wrong here, but can you
please try launching with the "-clean" command line option? E.g.
from the command line:
eclipse -clean
or
flexbuilder -clean
Some background, in case it helps: Although I don't know why
this has happened, it appears that a DLL is missing. Almost all of

com.adobe.flexbuilder.utils.osnative, and
com.adobe.flexbuilder.utils.osnative.win. The one I am referring to

Eclipse caches lots of stuff; one thing it does is, if it
finds a DLL in a plugin, it sometimes copies that DLL to another

tells Eclipse to discard its cache.

Flex Builder 2 corrupting Eclipse 3.2.1
Flex Builder 2 has some issues with Eclipse 3.2.1. I was
working with the trial version, so maybe the full version does not
exhibit these same problems, but if that is the case, then it is
disappointing that adobe is trying to support two separate products
instead of trying to resolve issues.
The largest issue with the Flex Builder 2 plugin for eclipse
is that if you have a flex project in the same workspace as other
projects (like dynamic Java projects) the flex builder 2 will try
to incorporate those projects in to the flex project when you do a
build or a clean only on that specific flex project. As a result,
eclipse consumes enormous amounts of memory that even with 2 gigs
allocated to the heap, it runs in to out of memory exceptions
frequently and the stability of eclipse has degraded significantly
since I installed this product! The flex projects that I had loaded
were some of the examples dealing with SpringGraph so I would not
consider them as being large or complex. When there is a build
occuring on just a Flex Project, it SHOULD HAVE NO BUSINESS even
scanning other non-related projects regardless as to if they are in
the same workspace!!!
I am not too impressed with flex's interface with eclipse on
the memory, the instability it introduced to eclipse, or how
SpringGraph handles large graphs, so I did not pursue getting a
license for future development. I also felt that the asking price
for the Flex Builder 2 is steep for what you get and its maturity
level. As such, when the license expired, Adobe had the nerve to
disable core functionality within Eclipse!!! For example, it would
not allow a CSS document to be opened in the CSS Editor! It
Hijacked the basic Eclipse functionality!!!
I am very disappointed in how the Flex Builder 2 plugin for
Eclipse does not play friendly!
But at least it does allow itself to be disabled. I am
grateful for at least that level of accepted behavior.Cluebcke, thanks for the reply!
I am using a compaq nx7010 laptop with 2 gigs ram, 60 gig hd,
eclipse is set to utilize a minimum of 512 megs and a maximum of
1540 megs for the heap space. Virtual memory is set to a max of
4092 megs. Fairly generous I would assume. I doubt it was a
configuration issue, but hey, I’m open to learning and the
best lessons are through mistakes! ;-)
Sorry, I was being a bit sarcastic when I mentioned that
perhaps the issues were related to the free trial version knowingly
perfectly well that in fact there is no difference between the two
products. But I guess I was also conceding a possible out for Flex
too. Hmm...
To clarify my comment about aggressively compiling against
other projects:
1) I had about 4 demos loaded in to a workspace (269 files,
82 folders, and 7.2 megs including my 1 test project as mentioned
in item 4)
2) I had about 7 large Java projects loaded in to the same
workspace
3) Total workspace size was about 22,000+ files and 1600+
megs, give or take a fair number either way.
4) I was making changes to a simple flex project based upon
a SpringGraph demo
5) I choose to manually build only the small flex project I
was working on so as to replace all the generated files. NOTE:
Might have been a clean, but only on that one flex project and NOT
the whole work space. It takes too long to rebuild all of my other
Java projects so that option has been unchecked for quite a while.
6) What I saw in the Eclipse progress window was a list of
files within my flex project getting reconstructed, and then it
started to scan through the other projects too. All of their names
and resources were flashed within that window.
7) When finished with the build of the ONE flex project, the
Java heap was basically gone. Starting a TomCat server would cause
an out of memory exception. Recall I have allocated 1.5 gigs for
the heap.
8) Checking the other Java projects and Flex projects, the
timestamps on the objects did not reflect that they were just
rebuilt. They were untouched. Proof that I did not perform a build
or a clean over the whole workspace.
I agree with you whole heartedly that unless I explicitly
select “build all” or “clean all” it should
not touch other projects in anyway. But it did.
As far as the issue with the CSS editor, I understand and
accept your point. Perhaps as a friendly suggestion, when the trial
expires, the plugin should uninstall itself. This may be very
doable, and still have the functionality of a reminder and
reactivation upon registration if Flex Builder actually had a
second plugin called something like "FlexBuilder Registration"
which would "intercept" attempts to edit and utilize the
FlexBuilder only functionality so an informative message could be
displayed. The benefit would be that normal functionality for
non-flex resources such as CSS would return to normal.
Anyway, as I stated before, I was not too impressed with
performance of large graphs. What I consider to be large would be
on the magnitude of 20,000 to 100,000+. It would need to display
just about all nodes, or at lease an abstract relationship of those
nodes rolled up to a higher level. I realize that SpringGraph is
not ideal for those situations to begin with, but I was exploring
the idea of writing other plugins to deal with other graphing
formats.
I guess to be fair to Flex in general, I should probably ask
a general question of how well does Flex deal with large data sets
that need to be resident and the manipulations of those data sets?
Thanks for your time,
Scott Tabar -
