Flex Builder in Windows 7
Hi, when I'm trying to install Flex Builder 3.0.2 in my Windows 7, I'm getting the following message: "Please, select another location to extract the installer to". All of the locations I tried didn't work. Did anybody get this situation? Thanks.
Sorry, I'm trying to install Eclipse Plugin and not the Flex Builder.

Sometimes the Flex Builder design window crashes in that when
you click on components, you don't see the usual outline transform
box out side the component you clicked on. Also things like the

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
WayneThank you for your response. Being a newbie to Microsoft
Vista (which I recommend the world to reject) I don't know exactly
how to describe how I got the install of Flex Builder 2 to work.
But, a friend of mine walked me through turning off the Windows
Defender security settings as well as all security settings related
to my user's setting. I believe I disabled two Vista "features",
and then the install worked. The only thing was that the checkboxes
during the install program did not appear, but clicking the
respective questions themselves did the trick (i.e. do you agree to
software license?' and 'install Flash player on IE / Firefox?')
Sorry I can't be more specific... but, for anyone that has
this problem, in the words of my friend, "Turn everything off in
Vista you can, then try it!".
Good luck,

Flex Builder 3, Design window not working
A few days into a new project, suddenly flex builder 3
crashed and I can no longer graphically edit my layout. Editing the
source works, and the changes are reflected in the design window,
however I cannot make changes while in the design window.
Help! You can try to delete (not contents), then reimport your
project, or simply reinstall Flex. Takes all of 5 minutes. If that
still doesn't work, make sure you don't have some component
covering the others possibly. -
Flex editing in Windows without Builder?
I've been doing my Flex work mostly on the Mac, using
TextMate and the command-line compiler.
I have to do some work in Windows XP Pro, and I was wondering
what text editors people use for it, and any other advise you could
give.
I have access to Builder for Windows at work, but I was
wondering if there was a third-party way like TextMate (which I
love) on the Mac.
Thanks.Sorry, I'm trying to install Eclipse Plugin and not the Flex Builder.

Flex Builder windows rearranging
Another question concerning Flex Builder. I've got 2 displays
and i'd like to move some windows like Flex Navigator, Console,
Sarch and Problems to the second display.
It would seem quite simple - just drag views to the second
display. It works, but draged views are either on one tabed window
or in several but not connected in any way. What i would like to do
is to connect them in a similar way they are connected at the
primary display. Tabbed window with views Problems, Search nad
Console at the lower half and tabbed window with view Flex
Navigator at the upper half of window holder (something like
HDividedBox). This window holder then would be maximized to fill
the second display.
Is is doable?Hi,
Flex Builder 3 hasn't been extensively tested on Windows 7 and isn't officially supported on that OS.
I'd suggest that you download Flash Builder 4 (which we released just this week) to resolve the problem - given that Flash Builder 4 was launched after Windows 7, we have tested against this configuration.
Thanks,
Andrew

Flex Builder 3.0.2 on Windows Vista 64bits
Hello,
I've installed Flex Builder 3.2 on Windows Vista Home Premium
64-bits, everything seems to work fine except for a detail.
When I go into a project's property panel, specifically:
Flex Build Path or
Flex Modules, in the first window it should display two tabs
at the top and the list with the source path you added to your
project. For some reason these are not showing.
Screenshot here:
http://img80.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotjq8.jpg
I've tryed disabling themes, effects, windows sidebar, etc
but the problem persist.
I'd like to know if any had this issue and if you did what
did you do to fix it. It's not like you can't work on flex because
of this but it is annoying.
Any comment is appreciated! The solution is to disable Logitech SetPoint software. I have no idea why but finally found it posted somewhere else here and it does in fact solve the problem. I notified Logitech, don't really expect them to fix it.
You don't have to uninstall it, just quit out of it and if you run Flex a lot, remove SetPoint from the Startup folder so it doesn't run automatically.
You don't even have to restart Flex or anything, just quit SetPoint and open the project properties again, instant fix. -
How can I create an executable with Flex Builder 3?
I'm working with Flex Builder 3 right now and I've run my
head into a brick wall. Here's the situation:
I'm creating a standalone application (runs in its own
window, not in a web page) and I want to run it on a computer that
does not have Flex Builder 3 installed. Help files and web searches
haven't directed me to the right answer, so I was hoping that
someone on this forum could help. Anyone know how to create a .exe
file or something else that can be run outside of Flex Builder?
Thanks a lot for any help!quote:

Thanks Rob,
This may be what I'm looking for, but I don't know enough
about the difference. I guess I should have pointed out that I'm a
complete Flex Novice!
Anyway, with Flex Builder, I created an MXML Application. I
went through all my various options again in Flex Builder and found
that under the project menu, I could export a release build in what
appears to be the format you mentioned. I managed to create a .air
file, but it is not a recognized file type on my computer. I tried
double clicking it and the built-in windows services couldn't even
find a possible way to run it. Am I missing some important step?
Thanks again. -
Flex Builder 3 Beta 3 Debugging not working with latest Flash Player Debug
First to emphasize that never had such issues with Flex
Builder 2 Beta 2 and Flash Player 9.0.47 Debug version.
I downloaded Flex Builder 3 Beta 3 and installed it. Then
trying to debug any Flex app (old or newly created) does not work.
I don’t get any errors, but after some research I saw
it’s nagging up on trying to connect to the Flash Player
debug version.
1. Uninstalled old versions of Flash Player (FP).
2. Downloaded latest debug version of FP 9 (9.0.115) and
installed it both for IE and Opera (Netscape-compatible).
3. Installed Flex Builder 3 Beta 3.
4. Created a simple Flex app.
5. Ran it in debug mode.
6. Showed a small window with title “Progress
Information” and a progress + text: Waiting for Flash Player
to connect to debugger…
7. Two minutes later I got the error: “Failed to
connect; session timed out. Ensure that: 1. You compiled your Flash
application with debugging on. 2. You are running the debugger
version of Flash Player.”
Any idea what is wrong? I tried to download an older debug
version but then FB 3 Beta 3 raises the error it’s expecting
version 9.0.115. I searched to download FB3 Beta 2 (because I
deleted it after downloading Beta 3) but unfortunately Adobe did
their best to wipe it out from their links.
Any help is welcome.

Did you close all the browsers (and applications which use
Flash Player) when you install Flex Builder 3 Beta 3 or Flash
Player? You can try manually installing it from <FB install
location>/player/ directory. Here're some
installation/unintallation instructions of Flash Player:

Widget creation on Flex builder and related problems - need some help
Hi all.
I am trying to create a widget like application and it seems
I have made a mistake. As you know, desktop widgets are like small
stickers, they do not appear on taskbar and can be hidden or
docked.
The problem is that I created an AIR application using Flex
Builder 3 Beta and now I cannot find how to make that application
behave like custom-shaped window. My app appears on Windows taskbar
and I don't want it. When I drag the window (which is a custom
shape) it shows that nasty dragging rectangle around it.
As far as I found out (and tried it) I need to use cod like:
var initOptions:NativeWindowInitOptions = new
NativeWindowInitOptions();
initOptions.systemChrome = NativeWindowSystemChrome.NONE;
initOptions.type = NativeWindowType.UTILITY;
to hide my window from the taskbar. But it seems I cannot use
such a code for class mx:Application. Or can I (would be grateful
for some idea)?
The main question is:
if I want to migrate my app to that NativeWindow based
solution - then NativeWindow is not an mx class and I cannot find
how I will use Flex Builder Design mode to arrange my GUI elements.
Is it somehow possible to wrap my mx:Application inside
NativeWindow and do not have to migrate the design from mxml files
to pure ActionScript?
The second issue - if I want to use some kind of subforms -
like widget settings window - when I move that window with the
mouse, it is being clipped to the region of my Application. Does
that again mean that I need to use NativeWindow for creating such a
"Widget settings" dialog window?
Thanks for any ideas (and especially for useful links and
examples :-) )Hi all.

Flex Ant SDK giving compile warnings not present in Flex Builder
We have a project when we complie from Flash Builder 4 it compiles as expected with no errors. However when we do an ANT build on a build machine with no Flash Builder installed, the same code (checked out from SVN) and same Flex SDK we have started to get an error: "Error: Access of possibly undefined property labelName through a reference with static type ..."
If I Run As the ant build from inside eclipse it builds fine and no errors (I verified the SDKs are the same). I can "work around" this by using show-actionscript-warnings="false" in the build.xml file, I'd rather not have to do this.
The error labelName property in the component that is referenced in the error is indeed marked public and it is [Bindable]. In fact the component that it says this error is associated with hasn't changed in a couple months.
Some other info that might be of interest on our system that builds the deploy version:
1. Our build box is running mac os x (10.5.6), Processor: 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory: 2GB
2. Flex SDK 4.1A
3. Java version 1.5.0_13
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)
JavaHotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)
4. Ant -version: Apache Ant version 1.7.0 compiled on February 29 2008
Any ideas as to what could be causing this "phantom" error in our module? How to fix? Hints or other avenues to pursue?
Thanks,
Mike WeilandSo it turns out I need to overlay the latest SDK into the Flash Builder directory completely, not just the files I was messing with before.
In flex builder, go to the directory where the SDKs are installed.
On my system this is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.5\sdks
On a Mac, it might be
/Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.5/sdks
There should be a 3.6.0, 4.5.0 and a 4.5.1 present.
Make a copy of the 4.5.1 directory.
Download the AdobeAIRSDK from
Windows - http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/win/download/latest/AdobeAIRSDK.zip
Mac - not sure what the link is.
Unzip this file, then overlay the contents into the 4.5.1 directory. There are 8 directories, and 2 files. The target 4.5.1 has 10 directories, and 7 files (on my system)
In Flash Builder, project properties need to be tweaked.
The Flex Compiler tab - Check [Use a specific SDK:], and pick Flex 4.5.1 in the dropdown.
And in the Additional compiler arguments add
-swf-version=12
In your code, to use the AEC, pick the Enhanced Microphone, as in
microphone = Microphone.getEnhancedMicrophone();
Now if only I could figure out what all the settings do and which one's I need to tweak for our environment... loads of experimenting.

Video Display Problems with Flex Builder 2
I am currently trying out the Flex Builder 30-day trial and
have been having problems running the software.
System info:
FB 2.0.1
Dell Latittude D820 running WinXP
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120M Video Card
When I first installed it, my display turned to garbage and I
had to reboot my machine to get it to a usable state. Someone
suggested changing my display properties and see if it helped. When
I tried 768X1024 with 8-bit color it worked. Once I installed it, I
changed them back to 1920X1200 32-bit. Everything seemed to work
fine until I started getting into some more complicated tutorials.
My display crashed and looked similar to what I saw before. I
updated to the latest NVIDIA driver from Dell. No help. I then
tried the Windows Troubleshooting. When I turned my hardware
acceleration to None, it started working again. There are some
weird display issues with menu buttons and I can't launch my Nvdia
software.
Is there a better solution to this? Has anyone had this
problem? I'm not so sure I'll purchase the software with this many
problems.
Thanks,

I am Currently restoring my Power Book after a significant meltdown.
Thanks for posting I too saw the shearing effect but shrugged it off thinking oh well I'll just reboot!
If you are seeing this Buy a fire wire drive NOW and Back-up.
I suspect the Video update changed a low level feature in the power management routines and this resulted in my Power book cooking itself.
I've got a 12mth old Hitachi 7200 PATA drive in my Power Book after the Apple Drive cooked itself soem tim back and I have now got to back-up and restore my whole system. Luckiliy I have plenty of Big fast firewire drives around so I'm imaging the corrupt drive and going to run the Hitachi tool on it via a WINDOZE Thinkpad. Then a combination of clean install of 10.5.x and a migration assisted restore should do it.
I'm really not very happy though! My Time machine image did not restore and the disk repair did not work. I have a corrupted asl.DB ( the log file for Apple System Logs) and the mac won't boot from its internal drive.
I'll post the resolution here as it happens I'm at hour Disaster + 24 so I'm really cranky!
I suggest If you have a G4 Power Book you resist the temptation to install the video update.

Background color change on Flex builder editor
I have been searching around to see if there is a way to
change the editor's backgorund. After long hours of coding, the
white background hurt my eyes.
I know wehre ti change the text color, and the background
color of the console, but not the editor (source). Any idea?hi
if you are using flex builder 3 you go to to:
window->preferences
then select General and inside it select Editors
Inside editors you have Text Editors, select that and you
will see what you want. -
