Flex Builder Slow Launch

Hi,
I have run into a problem where after a while an application
takes several minutes to launch using
Flex Builder 2.0.1 for Mac.
This did happen with the Beta too.
Don't know if I can isolate the exact conditions but it is
around the same time when I was trying to make
a centered full screen application by embedding it into
another.
Anyone else run into the problem of slow launching with Flex
Builder?
Joc

I've just started using Flex Builder 2.0.1 for mac and have
found the same problem. Just to clarify, I'm talking about the time
for an mxml application to launch from within FB2, not the
launching of FB2 itself.
I've just move from windows and copied my project across from
my Windows FB2 installation which launched within a few seconds.
The same project on the mac version takes more than a minute..
Is there a mechanism to submit a formal bug report?
Thanks,
Peter

  • AIR apps won't launch from flex builder

    Hi,
I am currently working on my first AIR app inside of Flex
Builder 3. For some reason, when I try to launch, profile, or debug
the app, it does it's normal "Loading.." message in the
bottom-right corner, but will never launch. The loading message
just disappears and the app never shows up. I do have the AIR
runtime installed. I receive this message when trying to profile
    the application:
Process terminated without establishing connection to
    debugger.
    Command:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder

    "C:\Personal\Freelance Projects\MyBoatData_Prototype\bin-debug"

    Can anyone help?

If you are using mx:Application, you need to set visible as
    true in the app.xml file.
Also make sure that no instance of adl is already running. If
so kill that instance via task manager.
    Thanks,

  • Flex Builder 3....Not launching?

Whenever I press F11 to launch my flex/air project it does not launch. The red square shows up in flex builder and flex builder seems to think it is open but there is nothing there. Also if I check my system processes, it says that adl is running, and it also says that javaw.exe is running at 50%. (I believe javaw.exe is flex builder as flex builder closes if I end that process.)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hi Michael,
Thanks so much for all your help!
I just installed FB 3 again, but still no love, yikes! I
don't get it FB 2 was painless,...
I have the same issues, and safari does not handle any flex
apps, just a blank(grey page). Can I ask a favor? Can you check
this link, a flex charting app. It can view it perfectly in Camino,
but just a blank page in safari. Could you check this link in
    safari?
    http://cfhawaii.com/Charts/DrillDownWithEffects.html
I also still get the can't find the debugger player.
    Maybe I need to take a on-line course(bring that I am in
hawaii) to learn how to get everything set up.
I send a bug report to adobe, and I am hoping that somebody
gets back to me, and can help me fix the problems, as I couldn't
even registrar FB3, I want to start learning flex, not dealing with
    this.
Thanks so much for all your help`-`

  • Flex Builder 3 error: This file cannot be launched

All of a sudden when I try to run my app from within Flex
Builder 3, I get a popup that says:
This file cannot be launched. I right click on my mxml file
and the option to set it as default is greyed out.
How can I make this error go away?
    Thanks

I've filed a number of bugs about a lot of things :P
Part of the problem for me is that I am using Vista x64 and
there are known issues with Eclipse 3.3 and the Logitech SetPoint
drivers on that OS. Basically, in FB3 I get corrupted Property
Dialogs and Preferences (can't change key binds, or set compiler
config, etc.). It does work in Eclipse 3.4M4 with the plugin, but
then Design Mode doesn't work properly (images and style are
wrong), and that is unsupported by Adobe. So basically I switch
back and forth between the two whenever I need to access the
dialogs lol. Given that kind of situation, it is difficult to know
what is a propblem with my specific config, and what is a bug.
Generally one of the things I see is my embedded fonts start
showing up as errors when I hit compile, then I have to do a clean
build. CSS errors/warnings show up in the main mxml file instead of
the CSS file (at the CSS file's line numbers).
I've also seen issues where modules aren't saved to the
properties files properly. Lack of conditional compilation support
(debug versus release at the bare minimum) in FB3 is annoying
(though you can do it with ANT).

  • Flash builder 4 installation somehow broke my flex builder 3 debuggin/running/profiling launch.

After installing flash builder 4 neither it nor flex builder 3 has been able to launch swf:s from flex. After hitting run or debug flex gives a prompt saying "Flash Player not Found. Flex builder cannot locate the required version of Flash Player. You might need to install Flash Player 9 or reinstall Flex Builder. Do you want to try to run your application with the current version?". The popup itself happened before installing flash builder 4. But normally I would just hit yes and it would use whatever flashplayer is default.
Now if I click yes it launches command prompt with a path to flex builder 3 installation folder. When running from flash builder 4, same happens except the path is the installation folder for flash builder 4. Flex then starts waiting for connection from debugger and after a while it prompts a timeout message. The command prompts title is ...\workspace\project\bin-debug\filename.swf.
When opening the swf files directly from windows they open fine.
I used the uninstaller software for flash player and then fetched both fp9&10 and reinstalled them. Which didn't help. When launching to browser everything works just fine, the problem occurs only when launching to standalone player. I tried to check registry settings if there would be something wrong, but all the paths for flashplayers seem to be ok.
Is there any other hope to fix this than reinstalling flex builder 3 & flash builder 4 from scratch?

You need content debugger FP installed
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html download it from there and install and you should see the problem go away
Download the Windows Flash Player 10 ActiveX control content debugger (for IE) (EXE, 2.03 MB)

  • Eclipse/Flex Builder Getting Slower

As my project has grown it has become increasingly very slow
to even move around in the editor. Sometimes it takes 5-10 seconds
just to move the mouse cursor from one line of code to another.
I am running it on a pretty beefy machine.
When this happens I usually notice that javaw is eating up a
    ton of cpu cycles.
Anyone else dealing with this or have any ideas?

Do you notice the slow down for all projects or for a
    specific project?
You can try bumping up the -Xmx512m to -Xmx768m or -Xmx1024m
    in FlexBuilder.ini file.
This file is located under Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder
    3\
Also if your project has grown very large, it may help to
break it into smaller libraries and project.
Also if you are not using Flex Builder 3, you should consider
using it (there are some performance improvements in flex builder
    3)

  • Change which browser flex builder launches in

My default browser was Google Chrome, and I have when I hit
F11 in Flex Builder it always launches in Google Chrome, but
because of some issues in chrome it is making troubleshooting
cumbersome. So I want to launch in FireFox but I cannot figure out
how. I set FF to my default browser, restarted my compuster, and
flex still launches in google chrome. I even uninstalled google
chrome and then Flex Builder just gives me an error saying it
    cannot find google chrome.
Can someone please tell me how to get it to launch in
    Firefox?
    Thanks!

    I went to Control Panel>Add Remove Promgrams>Set
    Program Access Defaults>Custom>Choose Default Web
    Browser>FireFox
    then restarted flex...that did it.

You might have the ADL open already and had a bug, so it's
not going to show the new application.
You need to manually close ADL first before you try debugging
another time. If you're on a PC, use Task Manager ->
    Processes... and end ADL.EXE
Then try running the app again... it should sort it
    out.

  • Flex builder and snow leopard problems

Since upgrading to Mac OS X 10.6, Flex Builder is functioning extremely poorly. The worst issue is that I am experiencing extreme slowness when typing code. I type a few letters and then have to wait a few seconds for my text to fully appear. The is happening in both Flash Builder beta and Flex Builder 3. There are also some other quirks--the column down the left side of the editor, where line numbers appear, periodically stops updating so that error and debug markers never disappear until I restart Eclipse.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can at least fix the text issue?

Wow, you're completely right. I hadn't noticed the second monitor issue until just now because Flex/Flash Builder is almost always on the second. Line numbers scroll just fine on my primary monitor.
Also, has anyone noticed a crazy amount of CPU usage when Flex/Flash Builder is Building the workspace or launching the application? When I look at the processes in Activity Monitor, a process called "fontd" uses ~95%. I've done some searching and all I can find is it has something to do with system fonts. Most people recommend clearing your font caches by booting into Safe Mode and/or using Font Book to resolve any duplicate fonts. I've tried both multiple times, yet the problem is still there. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Thank you for your response. Being a newbie to Microsoft
Vista (which I recommend the world to reject) I don't know exactly
how to describe how I got the install of Flex Builder 2 to work.
But, a friend of mine walked me through turning off the Windows
Defender security settings as well as all security settings related
to my user's setting. I believe I disabled two Vista "features",
and then the install worked. The only thing was that the checkboxes
during the install program did not appear, but clicking the
respective questions themselves did the trick (i.e. do you agree to
software license?' and 'install Flash player on IE / Firefox?')
Sorry I can't be more specific... but, for anyone that has
this problem, in the words of my friend, "Turn everything off in
Vista you can, then try it!".
    Good luck,

    Any key pointers?
    thanks,

The only thing I can think of that could have caused this was
    this line of code:
    <mx:Button label=">" />
Would that do it? If so, shouldn't Flex Builder simply show
me a warning instead making the file completely
    inaccessible?

  • Video Display Problems with Flex Builder 2

I am currently trying out the Flex Builder 30-day trial and
have been having problems running the software.
    System info:
    FB 2.0.1
    Dell Latittude D820 running WinXP
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120M Video Card
When I first installed it, my display turned to garbage and I
had to reboot my machine to get it to a usable state. Someone
suggested changing my display properties and see if it helped. When
I tried 768X1024 with 8-bit color it worked. Once I installed it, I
changed them back to 1920X1200 32-bit. Everything seemed to work
fine until I started getting into some more complicated tutorials.
My display crashed and looked similar to what I saw before. I
updated to the latest NVIDIA driver from Dell. No help. I then
tried the Windows Troubleshooting. When I turned my hardware
acceleration to None, it started working again. There are some
weird display issues with menu buttons and I can't launch my Nvdia
    software.
Is there a better solution to this? Has anyone had this
problem? I'm not so sure I'll purchase the software with this many
    problems.
    Thanks,
    Wendi

    Boys n Girls
I am Currently restoring my Power Book after a significant meltdown.
Thanks for posting I too saw the shearing effect but shrugged it off thinking oh well I'll just reboot!
If you are seeing this Buy a fire wire drive NOW and Back-up.
I suspect the Video update changed a low level feature in the power management routines and this resulted in my Power book cooking itself.
I've got a 12mth old Hitachi 7200 PATA drive in my Power Book after the Apple Drive cooked itself soem tim back and I have now got to back-up and restore my whole system. Luckiliy I have plenty of Big fast firewire drives around so I'm imaging the corrupt drive and going to run the Hitachi tool on it via a WINDOZE Thinkpad. Then a combination of clean install of 10.5.x and a migration assisted restore should do it.
I'm really not very happy though! My Time machine image did not restore and the disk repair did not work. I have a corrupted asl.DB ( the log file for Apple System Logs) and the mac won't boot from its internal drive.
I'll post the resolution here as it happens I'm at hour Disaster + 24 so I'm really cranky!
I suggest If you have a G4 Power Book you resist the temptation to install the video update.
    Regards
