Flex or Flash for Live aud/vid webcam?

Hello,
I am new to Flex and Flash.
I want an application where clients should be able to do a
peer to peer web cam.
I would like to ask that Flex 3 is good to make P2P Live
audio/Video Webcam or should it will be easy in Flash.
Also will i need to use Any Server (FMS) or not as it will be
a peer to peer application.
What is required to be installed on Server.
Also on Client side only Flash Player is sufficient to Play
or there is something else also needed to be installed.
Please tell me if you know a good tutorial and help material.

Hi,
If you must make application more flexible for you,
you must get Flex. it's an ide.
If you want to custom componant or animation you must take
flash.

Tips/Hints re: using flash for live title graphics and visualisations

Hi guys, this is my first post. I'm a design student from New Zealand, with a reasonably basic knowledge of flash, I've built a few relatively simple flash sites and applications for example.
I got a job the other day to produce live title graphics for a fashion show, and think flash can do the trick. Before i started i wanted to jump on here and see if you guys know of any interesting tutorials etc that could help me out? computerarts has a few on using live video/sound to create animation. I also need a way to transition pages without a set time, almost a crossfader- as the show is not timed exactly.
Any tips or hints would be much appreciated!!!

This is just a shot in the dark....
Do you have all your devices hooked up (and on) when you launch FMLE? For example -- your camera or digitizer? When FMLE launches it will try to launch with the last known settings... including input devices. If it can't find these devices (they're not hooked up and on) it can crash, although in most situations it will simply show a default screen with default settings.
If you do have your equipment hooked up (and on) when you launch FMLE, try unplugging them and then launching FMLE so that it opens up in default configuration mode (no input devices selected; all default settings). Then uncheck the "preview" boxes for both your input and output preview windows. Close FMLE and then plug in your equipment (and turn it on) and relaunch FMLE. I offer this suggestion as FMLE can sometimes act funny when the preview windows are open with certain types of input devices. Don't worry -- you don't have to keep the preview windows off forever. If you can get FMLE to successfully launch with the preview windows off, then you can set your settings however you like and save the profile. Then quit and relaunch FMLE and then turn the preview windows back on and see if it works. If it does, great. Just be aware that making any settings changes while the preview windows are open could result in FMLE crashing. Again -- this only happens with some capture devices, such as certain Dazzle capture boxes.
If none of this works, you could always try to upgrade to FMLE 3.2 and see if that solves your problem.

How to create a "special" class in Flash for Flex?

I need to create a class in Flash for a Flex app
(ex:rectangule) that is filled with the background color that Users
choose from that Flex App.
Is it possible? How?

1) Countdown Timer to the designated Date for Live-Broadcast-Event yet to take place
2) Detect End of Live Stream on FLVPlayback with FLVPlayback.isLive = true
attached is the .zip file (as3_Countdown Timer_ver 1.0.1_by Ronny Depp.zip) with all flash source files containing:
a) The FLash Source (file: timer_module.fla) - (FLA flash source file - Flash CS3 Professional, Flash Player 9, actionscript 3.0)
b) com.othenticmedia.utils.dateAndTimeManagement package including 2 .as actionscript 3.0 Class files.
       i) com.othenticmedia.utils.dateAndTimeManagement.DateAndTimeManager Class in the said package. (file: DateAndTimeManager.as)

Problem#1 Description:
I need to pinpoint the Logical TimeSync Exception, i am still unable to figure out. That is I'm using a webservice in my Application to Synchronize the Time with the actual ET (eastern time) with accomodation of auto-adjustment for EDT GMT-4 (eastern daylight time) & EST GMT-5 (eastern standard time), times. I am using the zipcode: "10012" to pass it to the Web Service in urlRequest object, to retrieve the Current ET eastern time according to EDT & EST time settings for Manhattan/Brooklyn areas or others within New York, NY 10012.
Currently the Web Service is returning accurate date/time based on local EDT GMT-4 daylight time.
Is there some defined set of dates for EDT & EST times for New York region that I can check for to ensure the correct Dates/Times for Eastern Time in New York area ??? I am using NY zipcodes because i am sure to get correct ET values.
The Major Problem Part: is I need to correct the time by 2 seconds or approx. 2 secs, some millisecs.
When I retrieve the Time Value from WebService, it lags behind for 2 seconds as compared to DateObj i create using computer's local time, on my Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Automatic Updates turned-on. And I'm sure about my Windows will be having latest updates for Time Management already installed. I also added the 2 secs. to the TimeSync(ed) Date to make correction to this Date obj.
I call my custom fucntion addSeconds(dateObj:Date, secs:int) to add 2 seconds to the Date by Converting Seconds to Milliseconds.
Please comb through the as code in files attached and Help Me Out !!!
Problem#2 Description:
Secondly I need to Detect the End of Stream state while using FLVPlayback component, an rtmp:// live Stream from FLASH MEDIA SERVER.
I need to Play a YuMe Post-Roll Ad when Steam Finishes/Ends.
Live Broadcast Stream Event starts every night on Wednesdays & Saturdays exactly at 10:59 PM EDT GMT-4.
Live Events only Streams/Broadcasts the stream for 50secs. exactly. When [playback stopped] it plays a PostRoll Ad and after the CountdownTimer again comes back to life. The Next upcoming Event is calculated & the Countdown begins until Next Event's time/date is reached.

We are currently trying to get some old stuff done in Flash to port over to flex and convert a MovieClip made in Flash to an SWC/Flex component.

I've also modified the existing Flex Builder project for flex4tests to build against this new utilities project directly.

Flash projector asking for permisson to access webcam?

Hi,
on a kiosk system I use a webcam and it works great here on my pc and other too. Just heard the PC where it is installed is askting for permission to the webcam when starting the Flash executable. I assume there is windows 7 home edition on the PC. Does this has something to do with user rights?

USB digitizer for Flash Media Live Encoder?

Hi,
I've been using Osprey 230 as my digitazing card for live streaming with FMLE and I'm very happy with it.
However, some of my clients need an USB 2.0 digitizer, instead of a card that goes into the computer, such as Osprey.
I've already tried Pinnacle Dazzle and Diamond VC600, but none of them seem to work well with FMLE. I'm wondering which options you guys have been using. Does anyone have experience with Avermedia's DVD EZMaker USB Gold?

The CS5 versions of software are not available. The CS5.5 versions are currently available for sale and trial download.
Adobe Media Encoder is not sold separately. It is included with Premiere Pro, After Effects, Flash, and several other applications... as well as with any of the Creative Suite packages.

Flash Media Live Encoder Download for Macintosh

I have been able to download the flash media live encoder for a windows pc, but cannot locate on the Adobe website how to download to a mac. I have located download updates but not the original download. Can someone guide me?

People with Macs who stream live events over Flash don't use OS X, they use Boot Camp and XP/Vista.
My Macbook Pro is setup with Boot Camp for the sole purpose of streaming live Flash video.
Believe me, we all hate it, but it is what it is.
Perhaps the geniuses behind FFMPEG will start supporting the RTMP transport. Then you will see live flash streaming on a Mac. I would love this to happen, because the FMLE encoder quality sucks compared to x264, even at bitrates sustainable during a live broadcast.

Flash Media Player which handles bitrate switching for live streams?

Hello. I've got a very short timescale to find a solution for a way to display livestreams with bitrate switching. Does anyone
know of any opensource players which can do this effectively? Or do the inbuilt components in CS4 deal with this ok?

Thanks,I have read that article. Based on that article the NetStreamInfo.maxBytesPerSecond is not an accurate measurement to base dynamic switching on. This seems to be the basis of the bitrate switching in both the longtail player, and the adobe examples that I have tried. That article suggests using the dropped frames property, in conjunciton with bufferlength to determine if switching is neccessary. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a player online which handles this successfully. That being said, I can't believe I'm the only person trying to implement dynamic bitrate switching for live streams so surely there are some players out there which can do this successfully? If anyone knows of any code available which does this successfully I would appreciate knowing where!
