Flex pitch (Time) needs midi track import function

Flex pitch (Time) needs midi track import function

HI it's me again ( under my studio name).. I don't use Garage Band. I use Logic x. so don't know why you'd suggest doing away with another program when I have no use for Garage Band.
I think it ended up working only because it was a glitch.... when I exited the program and came back to it, it started working. The only thing that didn't appear was the pitch correction on the left hand side of the sound editor.. the slider button where you can go up to 100%...
but at least it worked. This Apple operating system always has bugs .. but gllitching on my projects doesn't make me a happy camper.
They don't even offer support for it. unless you pay through the roof.
Anyway.. it showed up... not sure how it did, but rebooted my computer and miraculously it was there.

  • Pitch has changed mid track

I just round-tripped a sequence from FCP6.0.1 to STP2.0.1. All I did was add 2 tracks of background music to the voice over track from FCP. I added 2 of the Apple supplied loops as my background. The one track had to be repeated because it was a little shorter than the length of the video. I simply trimmed the end of its first instance and then dragged another instance of it from the browser into the track. Play it back in STP and it sounds great. Almost can't tell that there's an edit there. Now when I export the final mix and return to FCP at the point where the second instance of that loop begins it is pitched up a slight amount! Now this is the same loop appearing twice in the track. The first instance plays fine, the second one is pitched up. I thought that maybe because I added a fade at the end of the second instance that it was being effected some how, so I removed the fade and still the pitch problem is there.
Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    hi
it sounds like it could be a sample rate problem. in STP open the 'bin' tab where all your audio files are referenced and see if the files that you added are 44.1Khz (I'm presuming your FCP project is video with 48Khz audio) - if they are 44 then you'd be best to open them in the audio editor and process>resample them to 48k.
STP seems to have a lot of difficulty with mixed sample rates - they play fine in the multitrack window, but can give problems when exporting to .aif, or sometimes moving the clips on the timeline etc.
    hope this helps

  • Track Import... bug?

Love the fact that Logic 9 added the track import functionality... especially when mixing a project where the drums were all recorded at the same time/place. Importing channel strips with the same plug-ins, volume, and routing from a previous mix is a HUGE time savor.
However, it's the routing that appears to be buggy.
I generally always route my drums to bus 1, so on the songs where I'm importing the drums channel strips, this is where they are output to.
However, when I use the track import function, I do get my plug-ins and static volumes, but these tracks are now all being sent to bus 27. Yes, consistently, and constantly... bus 27. Not bus 1.
An easy fix, of course, but was curious if someone could test this, or hear from others who have experienced similar anomalies

... so I did this function again yesterday, and this time, all the imported channel strips were set to output Bus 33.
Again, the song they were imported from, the tracks were sent to bus 1, but once imported, the output assignments change.
This appears to be another one of those features that Logic has added, but hasn't worked it out completely.... just trying to see if anyone else experiences this

using flex pitch is there a way to fine tune the start point .i'm using it as a audio to  midi function

Thank you for your reply Karsten but unfortunately this didn't help me so far. Or maybe I'm missing something?
First the link is a tutorial for iMovie on a Mac. I'm using iMovie on iPad so the steps are inapplicable.
Second it is only possible for me to manipulate the end part of the sound clip to whichever duration I want. But I can't do the same with the 'beginning' of the sound clip.
I simply want to place some photos in the beginning of my video with no sound in the background then after like 2 secs I want to start the music clip. For some reason that is not possible! Cause every time I drop the music clip unto my project timeline it automatically place it self along with the first frame in the project! And consequently the photos and music are forced to start together.
    Hope I'm making sense...

  • GB3 MIDI backing track imports

Has anyone imported multi-instrument MIDI backing track files into GB3?
In my experience I find that the tracks when downloaded to my desktop play in QT player as a GMAT file perfectly. However, when imported into GB3 the track plays back substantially differently.
All the software instruments appear as separate tracks and playback, but are slightly off.
I have played with the KEY (D, Db, E, etc.) selector and tempo slide, but cannot seem to get the track, post import to GB3, to match the quality, playback and tone of the one playing in the QT player.
If anyone might know what I should do to remedy this problem, I would appreciate your reply and direction.

Indeed, the definition of "off" needs to be clarified. Not the notes played, it is the overall tone/timber of the playback that is different from the MIDI file as played back in the QT player.
Subsequent to my post, we have been assigning different "instruments" in Garageband to the "off" track. Usually the bass line is the most problematic.
I would venture to guess that during the import of the MIDI file, Garageband assigns a software instrument closest to the one used in creating the original MIDI file. Therefore, it might account for the "off" quality of the playback in Garageband.
The limited amount of instruments in Garageband 3 is probably the cause for the discrepancy. I will continue to work with the files to see how much closer I might be able to get to the original MIDI track.
However, if anyone can confirm my suspicion and can then recommend a more varied range of instruments, (Jam Packs, etc.), I am interested to know what the consensus is.

  • The Need Of A Midi Track

Hello, all. Very new to Logic here. Just asking a series of questions to try to continue my knowledge on this program. Here's one: Among others, there are audio tracks, audio instrument tracks, and midi tracks, correct? Okay. I understand audio tracks enough. Connect them properly to your audio interface, and your okay. Same with audio instruments, except they're going directly through Logic, as opposed to being externally generated.
What about midi tracks though? I see on my start up template a bunch of midi tracks with labels on them - Grand Piano, Polysynth, Fingered Bass, etc . . . But, although I know how to get my audio and audio instrument tracks to (eventually) generate sound, I'm not quite sure how to get my midi tracks to do such.
So I guess this is kind've a two part question then: 1) How do I get my midi tracks to generate sound? and 2) why midi tracks at all? I mean don't the audio instruments function as your midi tracks?
I know I'm all over the place here in terms of my (jumbled) thought process.
Anyone please try to respond to what you can.
    Thank you,
    Javier Calderon

MIDI tracks work in conjunction with external MIDI devices, such as a hardware synth or drum unit. Sound is generated from those instruments. If you don't have one of those, you're not really missing anything (Logic has more than enough software instruments).

  • Exporting/importing midi tracks

I have tried exporting midi, in both formats, from Cubase VST/24 v4.1 using the export menu option then importing into Logic, but nothing shows up in my logic tracks except empty regions. I have been careful to select and export individual tracks, then to select a midi track for import and follow Logic instructions, but I have had no success. Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong or tell me exactly how this is done so I can compare it with my procedures? Seems like it should be a simple matter.

Are you sure that the regions that you are exporting contain note data? You should be able to play a standard midi file in iTunes and QuickTime. Try that to verify that, yes, you did export things correctly.
To get a MIDI file into Logic, you can either import it using the File menu, or you can set up an instrument(s) and drag the file into the Arrange window.

    Hi,
that's because Logic reads the volume information out of the imported MIDI tracks and sets the volume fader according to this information. The MIDI information overrides volume settings you have done, so you have to identify the MIDI events that contain volume (or expression or pan or whatever) information and delete them. You can use the event list editor for this.

How can apple send out an os update that renders an important function of the software/hardware to not work? They knowingly have sent out this new os update for iPad which makes airplay nonfunctining! I need this for my business!  I could understand if they didn't know, but it is all over the Internet! When I went in to have it revert back to os6 (which worked fine!) I was actually asked if I had done any research before I installed the upgrade! As if this is the consumer's fault for being dumb enough to fall for the upgrade!

That is not what I have discovered, nor what others have discovered, nor what I was told when I went the Genius Bar.  I cannot remotely mirror to my MacBook Pro and it only started the day after I installed the upgrade.  We tested it with an iPad that had not been upgraded, no problem.

  • How do I bounce audio and midi tracks at the same time to burn a CD?

    Hi there,
I would like to bounce a song with both audio and midi tracks recorded in it onto a CD.
Despite ensuring that I am doing a realtime bounce (not offline) I am only getting the audio tracks burnt onto the CD - the midi isn't getting bounced to the final output.
This must be a stupid question, if someone would be so kind as to give me an obvious answer I would be most grateful.
    Thankin y'all
    amata

    Hi A,
if you use the instrument (with logic virtual synths) tracks for midi,
    it will.
BTW, why don't you do it offline?
It will be so much faster.
    Kindly regards,

  • Midi tracks changing pitch when un frozen

Whats up, is this a known problem and I am unaware. I had every midi track on 6 songs do the same thing upon unfreezing. All went up a half step sharp. Steve Cooley

Aah, yes of course! That would be why...
    Thanks for the help.

  • Insert midi track takes 2 minutes

When I try to insert a midi track it takes 2 to 3 minutes before it's added, during that time cpu usage is more then 50%.
When I try to open a (AA2)session with midi tracks it will take for every midi track 2 or 3 minutes.
AA2 and other programs don't have this kind of problems.
Hope that this problem is known and that there is a solution.
    Rg,
    Ton

    Hi Ton,
Audition 3.0 has a completely new MIDI sequencer and while I don't recall experiencing such long load times as you've described, it will take a bit longer to load an Audition 2.0 session in Audition 3.0 as the MIDI tracks need to be converted to the new schema. This, however, should also not affect creating new MIDI tracks in a new session.
MIDIHOST.DLL is the library that contains the functionality for the new MIDI Sequencer. It is technically a VST effect and acts as a host for VSTi instruments and MIDI track data. It will show up as an unsupported VST because, while technically a VST plug-in, it's integrated into Audition's multitrack back-end and is unlikely to function as a proper VST in Audition or any other host.
Since this issue only appears to occur on your desktop and not your laptop, let's focus on what could be happening. My first recommendation would be to ensure your hard drive is defragmented. Next, I would probably recommend reinstalling - or running the Repair install - for Audition once more. If the issue persists, we can continue troubleshooting. It should take no more than a few seconds for the instantiation and creation of the new MIDI track to complete.
    Thanks,
    Durin

  • Splitting midi tracks?

I start by creating a new project and a single software track
I then choose a drum kit from the media library
with the Caps Lock on I hit Record and bash out some different drums on my computer keyboard.
With the track and region selected I choose Midi / Separate Midi Events / By Note Pitch
and the midi notes separate on to different tracks
But they still behave like one track
If I click Solo or Mute they all highlight.
When I open the mixer there is only one channel strip
    Not ten separate channel strips
    What am I doing wrong?
    thanks

You are not doing anything wrong here: this is how Logic works when you do a "split by note pitch". The result will be multiple Arrange tracks that all 'talk' to the same Instrument channel.
If you need to make them truly independent, you may have a couple of choices:
Create some new duplicate tracks and move the regions to those
    or (maybe)
Use multi-output Instrument Channels and Output Aux channels to get the 'separation' you need.
