Flex, Printing / Create PDF without Server?!?

Hi,
after some days of searching a printing solution for flex without using a server or using a second languag (Java), I found the following solutions:
www.alivepdf.org
and
www.bentbit.com
Is there something else out there?!?!?
I can not understand why Adobe, the "mother" of PDF, does not have a nice solution for it?!?!?!

My boss assigned me a task that to get the ImagePreview of 1st page of PDF.
My thought is to print the 1st page of PDF to file(virtual print to file), and get the image source, but there comes the problem:
How can print a pdf without user interaction(With C#),question are these:
1. I can use the ShellExcute but cannot assign the destination of output file.
2. User interface is unwanted, I don't want show anyone the Acrobat Reader interface who click the file just want to get a preview.
3. No place to put those parameters in.
This problem confused me a lot of days, I wish someone can give some hints.

Acrobate IX freezes when printing/creating pdf in Firefox - same settings as in IX

Hi Guys,
Had the product for a week and it is not working... Usual stuff, a new PC take weeks to bed down.
When I try to print/create pdf from something in Firefox, both Acrobate IX and Firefox freeze. I have the old PC with Firefox and Acrobate IX, same default setting and it works everytime. XI freezes. Close Firefox and Acrobate and then re-open and it may print. If it does the next time I try it freezes.
Can anyone help?? not sure how this works... but my email is [email protected]

How do I print a pdf without the standard crop marks that appear when I have created it in Illustrator originally?

I am so frustrated as I cannot work out why my pdf files that I have created in Illustrator, print out on my printer with crop marks as well as scaling the image to fit them in on the paper. I just want to be able to print it out without the crop marks at the correct and original size it was designed in.
Help Please.

The crop marks are part of the design, no reason why Acrobat wouldn't print them. You could try cropping them out in Acrobat.

How to read and print a Pdf from Server

Hallo, i need a help. I have some pdf documents on server and i want to allow viewing and printing them from the client. I would like not to have it outside my application cause i don't want client computers have to download adobe reader.. I think that purePDF can help me but i really don't know how to load the stream and put it on display.. Can anyone help me or give me some advices?

The simplest way that I know of would be to use 'navigateToURL()' and let the user to print the pdf from the browser.
Does anyone have the advice on doing this within the Flex app; i.e. without opening a new browser window?

Create PDF without image compression?

How do i create a pdf from multiple images without any compression?
Seems like even if i do optimize pdf and select png(edit the settings to do max res and no downscaling), when it saves the pdf, at 100% zoom, it's obviously bigger than my original png and compressed(or maybe it looks blurry because it's being upscaled when i never requested).
In short, if my png is 500x500, i want it to be exactly that size at 100% maginification once the pdf is saved out. I don't want any compression, i don't want any scaling...why is it so hard to do this???

However... the conversion can be lossless. If you make a PDF file from a SINGLE image (different option) and select the image format in Files of Type you can click Settings and choose the format for compression. Choose ZIP and compression equivalent to PNG is used.
You also have fine control when printing to PDF.
It's just the Combine Files function, which is fast and simple, that lacks choices.

Acrobat X: Can't print to PDF without admin right

Hi,
running Acrobat X pro on Win 7 64 Bit, I can't print to PDF from any application (e.g.ms office, chrome, open office, arcobat itsellf....) without admin rights. I just get the error message, that the printing failed.
However, starting the application with admin rights, and trying to print to pdf will work.
I already tried to repair the installation without success.

There is no free PDF printer driver from Adobe. That functionality is included in Acrobat and it used to be part of e.g. Pagemager in the past as well by ways of including Distiller. If you want it for free, you have to look elsewhere, otherwise buy Acrobat. On OSX it is also part of the operating system already, BTW.

I am building an aplication that uses "Report Generation Toolkit". I am creating a "word" report with a template. After I am done with word creation I want to convert this "word" report to "PDF" format. I need that this process will be an automatic one. I understand that I can use print to PDF software, but the problem with it is that every such software prompts me to choose file name and destination.I need to avoid this.

There is a lot of PDF software available and some do provide the means to avoid prompts when saving the PDF. PDFCreator has the advantage of being open source and free, has its Autosave option and had a COM interface added to recent versions. Alternatively you could look at pdf995 which has similar capabilities. I'm sure there are others.

How to create PDF without embedded fonts from Indesign

Can anyone tell me how to create from Indesign a PDF that certainly does not contain any fonts I don't want to include? But that would appear in the same layout in a substituted font, including italics and small caps?

You can't, InDesign will embed the fonts for you.
To unembed fonts you need Acrobat Professional. Go to Tools>Print Production>Pdf Optimiser
go to Fonts
And select the fonts to unembed.
You could select any text and change the Transparency to 99.9%.
Then in Edit>Transparency Flattener make a new one using High as a base for the new
Select Convert Text to Outlines.
When you Export to pdf, choose Adobe PDF 1.3, and go to Flattening, choose the new Flattener Preset that you just made.
And when you export it, any text forced through the Flattener will be converted to outlines. (this could violate the terms of the Font Licencing.)

How to remove logo when printing a PDF without editing

I need to recover pdf Document Management System that contains a logo and would like to remove the logo. Is there any way to remove it without editing the PDF?

You can create a new layer that you can have the logo appearing on, and change the properties of the layer 'Not to print', then delete the layer from the base.
I am working on the assumption that the logo is selectable on its own, you have permission to change the PDF....if not, I can't think of how you can remove something without editing it...

Is it possible to print a pdf file served to the browser?

I have a servlet that will send a pdf file to the browser (IE), (i set the content type to "applicaction/pdf"). Now I need a way to create a print button to allow user that option, seems the browser print button is not satisfactory. Can a pdf be embedded in a web page somehow? Sounds like I would be dealing with 2 different reponse types "application/pdf" and "text/html"..I think the print button would call a method doing some extra things other than what the browser print button does. Is this possible? Thank you

Printing/creating PDF problems with Mac OS 10.6.4 and word v.X

In my job at university I use Word 2003 (version 10) in my new iMac. Since I updated to MacOS 10.6.4 I have problems with the printing menu. That means that I can not print or convert to PDF or even generate a preview. When trying to print or obtain a preview, word freezes and I have to force quit. When trying to generate a pdf file it does, but the generated file is unreadable (it says is damaged) and word freezes again. I have played with the preferences, change user and it didn't help. I checked the Font Book and indeed they were many duplicated fonts. I sorted them out, but the problem persists. With very short files it works, but with longer ones word invariably crashes when trying to print or make a pdf. I took one long .doc file and I copied into my laptop (MacBook pro, 2008) that was running 10.6.3. I printed it and converted to pdf; no problems at all. Then, for the sake of knowledge, I updated the system to 10.4.6 and then I couldn't print or create a pdf with the very same file, so it seems that certainly the update is reponsible. So now I know cause but I can not print from any of my computers. To me convert to pdf is an important functionality so I would appreciate any help. I have some ideas: reinstall Office 2003? reinstall 10.6 from the disk (and not update)? use Time Machine to restore the system as it was before the update?
I didn't detect problems in Office 2004, or any other programs in my macs. Unfortunately, I need Office 2003 for compatibility with some other software. Thanks in advance!

I updated my MBP to 10.6.4 last night and today I was printing fine from Word 2008 (v12.2.5). I haven't used Office vX since Tiger so I cannot comment on its stability with the latest update. But I suggest that if you haven't done so already, try opening Disk Utility and running Repair Disk Permissions on the 10.6.4 partition. Once this has completed I also suggest that you reset the printing system, restart your Mac and then add your printer queues again.
*How to Reset the Printing System*
1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
5. Restart your Mac

There is filled-in info on my form that is not showing up when I print/create pdf

The missing info is just at the end of the form, which is only 5 pages. Everything else I typed in the form is showing. What gives?
