Flex SEO

Hi,
I've got a Flex site that's been up for a few weeks. Unfortunately, I'm not getting any traffic. Crickets are chirping. The PageRank is 0.
Unfortunately, I don't have any inbound links, yet.
I've submitted the site to Google with a sitemap. Most of the site is dynamic. I pull data from a database. I've enabled deeplinking. And I used the urls to the "pages" to produce the sitemap. I used hyphenated keywords for the "pages'" titles. Google's webmaster tools has a green checkmark for the sitemap's status. It says that 116 URLs were submitted and 0 have been indexed.
I know that Flex isn't too great for SEO. But, I'm getting a bit nervous. What should I do to improve the SEO? Obviously, inbound links and great content are critical.
If anyone else has run into a similar problem or has suggestions on how to improve the SEO, please let me know. I'd love to hear from you.
Thank you.

  • Flex 3 and SEO HELP

Can anyone help me if Flex 3 can be seen by search engines. I have a pure Flex 3, database generated web site and have tested many options with no search engine results found. I tried hidden text and found search engine results very quickly before I discovered that this technique was a search engine no no. I am looking for valid way design my Flex and test the search engine to verify results before I build duplicate html pages. Please help.....

I think Tracy is correct. You need to declare the amazon namespace:
    namespace amazon = "http://webservices.amazon.com/AWSECommerceService/2007-07-16";
and then use it when parsing your xml:
    event.result..amazon::Item

  • (SEO) Improving Search Engine Rankings with FB4/Flex 4 (spark)

Is FB4/Flex 4/spark components doing work to make Flash RIA sites searchable?

    Hi,
We are not doing anything specific in Spark to enable more searchability, we are still waiting on the search engines to continue to improve their implementations to support loading content dynamically which will then expose the text that is on the screen.  We do have some thoughts on things we can do with deep linking to help promote structure to the search engines in the future, but that would also require cooperation with the engines and isn't something we can do entirely on our own.

Does anyone know if Google indexes Adobe Flex content?
I have seen many examples of Adobe Flash content being indexed but none so far for Adobe Flex generated SWF files.
I  have researched this a lot but cannot find a definitive answer....  Adobe say that Yes Flex generated SWF files are indexable but I have  found no evidence to support this.
Can anyone help me with my question??  I am doing a final year project on RIAs and I need to know!

  • XML or MySQL Database: Which is Better for SEO

    Hi,
I've got a Flex 3 trivia game site, www.brainpinata.com. I load questions and answers from a database. Unfortunately, Google doesn't index content from a db as I understand it.
Would it be better for SEO, if I loaded the content from an XML file? Would Google index more of the content? Or would it make no difference?
    Thank you.

    Hi there,
Well, As Is you wont have a Sh....Show in Hell to be noticed in any Search. Below some of the code on your site !
I can't see a TITLE ??? DESCRIPTION is writen as Keywords with commas and two full stops, but should be a sentence or two or three DESCRIBING what you are intent of doing (with the site) which would than go under 'Extract'.
These would be Key phrases NOT Key words:
multiple  choice trivia questions, online trivia games,

  • Online Store In Flex

Hi all... Am currently in the process of building an online
store, the database is a MySQL database, and I originally was going
to do the whole thing in PHP... But have started to look into
building it in Flex as an option... I have posted on a heap of web
forums and no one there will really stick up for Flex so thought
I'd post here to get some feedback from the other side of the coin
    so to speak...
Obviously an online store IS achievable in Flex, but is it
advisable? I'm assuming like Flash Flex doesn't have great SEO
capabilities, and I guess for an online only store that would be
important. But I'm thinking that alot more interactivity can be
achieved building an online store in Flex... Anyway if anyone has
any opinions would be much appreciated...
    Thanks!

I am no expert on flex, but I've heard that there are things
you can do to make flex sites SEOed. (Search Engine Optimized) But
I wouldn't be the person to ask about that.
But I do run an online store that was built in php (zencart)
and runs with a mysql backend. We have decided to switch our
frontend to flex, and use php as our middle man to access our mysql
database. For us, flex will give our users a better experience. I
personally like the ability that flex gives you to separate the
front end from the back end, so that you can make your site
available to more users on more platforms. That is an obvious
    benifit over php.
Also, with Flex 3 coming out soon, and Adobe AIR, you can
even make a front end for your store that runs as a local
application on a users computer - I'd like to see php do that! :-)
But using flex you wont get away from php totally - you will
still need it for database access and the like.

  • Flex/CF vs xhtml/CF

Hi all, whilst I have kept one eye on flex I have never
    ventured in.
I currently build and maintain a internal application,
consists of various functions such as customer data management,
    sales data management etc etc..
my question is, as a complete flex newbie, what is the
benefit of me using flex (and coldfusion) or as i currently do,
    html web pages and coldfusion...?
    Many thanks in advance

It greatly depends on your intended purpose or “Use
Case” of your application really. So this is not something
simple to answer without knowing that. But the biggest reason I
chose Flex over traditional xHTML (Web 1.5 :) technologies is if
the application I am building needs to act and function more like a
desktop application rather then a WebSite. Think statefull vs.
    stateless.
So for intranet applications, command and control
applications, generally anything that requires a rich UI and there
is no need for extensive SEO within the application. I would use
    Flex.
For simple information sites with little user interactivity,
other then navigation, where a majority of the application is
simple text, (wiki's, pamphlet sites, ect...) or when I need to
make sure that the site is indexable by the major search engines
(not so much a problem anymore) then I use xHTML.
More and more however I find less and less of a reason to
drop back to any form of xHTML and am finding that just about
everything I would even need I can accomplish in Flex. Now that
Google and Yahoo are introspecting and indexing SWF files the SEO
is less of a problem (though not perfect yet).

  • Flex2 and SEO help

    Hi
I'm rather new to Flex2 and I had a general question about
search engine words like what you'd find within the meta tags of a
static HTML page. Seeing is it that the output is a giant .swf file
for clients, how does one address the issue of their site being
available for search engines, or is it even possible?
    Thanks

First I want to say Shame on you Adobe for not addressing
    this subject outright.
I am a java gone flash some 5 years ago and now am making the
    switch to flex/flash.
What I say now is only what data I have been able to collect
the past two weeks on this subject and should only be used as a
    reference.
If you build an entire website out of flash a search engine
cannot crawl a .swf file. Are there ways around it, yes there are.
    http://labs.blitzagency.com/?p=171
but the time and effort is tremendous for a small team or one
    person.
Flex does answer the back button issue with historyManager
class. but to fully exploit it you need to program a bit more
depending on how complicated a site you build.
From what I gather you are building a site entirley in flash
which is OK but you need to grow beyond this to whats known as a
MVC architecture which basically means separate out your content
from your view and store it either in flat files or in a database.
This opens up the opportunity to point the search engines to
    this data.
    see
    http://www.onflex.org/ted/2007/08/flex-directory-seo-and-flex.php
    http://blog.deconcept.com/2006/03/13/modern-approach-flash-seo/
This is a complicated subject and one not taken on lightly.
Is it possible, absolutely. However you need to think before
you build. separate out your content. point the incoming requests
to what there looking for...read and understand the mvc
architecture. If you have worked in flex you already know that in
the eclipse environment you are producing mxml documents.
perhaps these will be indexable as well??
im still working on the problem myself and am curious where
    this goes.
    Hope this helps

  • Flex and search engines

    Hi all,
I looked at old messages, but couldnt really find an answer in recent subjects.
I had my website in HTML before, and it was pretty high indexed in all the search
engines. Now I moved exactly the same information into a flex application and
it can't be found on the same positions anymore in the search engines.
What can I do to get back my old rating ?
Do I have to put the source open ? Or can it be found with hidden code as well ?
    Thanks for all info.

It will be very great to hear any info about Flex.
Do you suggest me to switch to Flex?

    Hi, John
    Thank you for your reply.
I want to use Flex for data representation, for building
    forms, databases,
so - almost everywhere except simple html pages, because I'm
not sure if it will be good for SEO.
Thank you for your link. I've looked at screenshot and
    basically I want the same,
just buttons, forms, which will looks the same in any
    browser.
Also, if I can use use Flex for client-based - i.e. desktop
version of MyTaskHelper.com, - it will be great.
And if I'll have the same interface in both browser and
desktop versions - it would be fantastic.
Once again, thank you for your reply, and I'm looking forward
    to hear your input again.

  • Migracion de flex a flash

good afternoon I wonder if I can migrate an application from flex to flash as it is done thanks for all your response I hope you have a good day

Programming in Flex is lot like a programming in Flash
professional. Fundamentally, Flex enables you to build and deploy
SWF files, the compiled bytecode that is interpreted by the virtual
machine known as Flash Player on desktop browsers.
The key differences between the two authoring tools are:
    1) Flash has been designed to facilitate the creation of
interactive content, whereas Flex is geared toward application
    development.
    2) Flash stores your application structure in a binary FLA
file, whereas Flex uses a text file based on the markup language of
    Flex, MXML.
    3) Each tool also differs in the development model it
    employs.
    Hope that helped.

    Hi,
I am building a Flex web application to host tutorials on how to build accessible and SEO friendly RIAs (http://www.accessiblerichinternetapplication.com/)
Can anyone suggest automated accessibility / seo testing tools that I can use to validate my website?
Thanks in advance for your help
    Angela's ARIA

    Hi Angela,
First up and foremost I would like to commend you to your great effort in setting up this site !!! and especially with such controversial subject like SEO.
I have been reading through some of it, but not quiet all as yet and I find it extremely interesting, but at first glance I did not see anything in regards to using Flex compiler SEO ??? and / or Html SEO ?
Now I would be very interested to find out a little more in detail what you are looking for here:
**** Can anyone suggest automated accessibility / seo testing tools that I can use to validate my website? *****
My personal answer to your question above and as it stand is YES & NO !
Yes because I do have an Application which could maybe suite your idea of SEO in one way or the other. It is operating on different web sites at the moment covering five (5) continents with around 190 feedback channels using six (6) different movements, but Analyzing is just a part of that what it was developed to do.
The App. has been tested every day for several times since early Dec. 2010 and has proven extremely responsive and effective to each of the web sites SEOs it is used with, but as said before I need to know a little more to see if this really could be of any help to you !

  • Flex versus Dreamweaver

This coming from an old Microsoft developer. How do I choose
when I use Flex versus Dreamweaver. This feels like Flex = Visual
Studio and Dreamweaver = MS Expressions Web. Is this line of
    thinking correct?
    Thanks,
    Ed Ferron

Think of Flex as a client server application that runs in a
browser. All the rich functionality of a client server app with the
power of the web behind it. Of course you can do this with HTML and
AJAX but it can get very messy.
I used Dreamweaver when I was coding JSP to build the UI. I
do not know MS Expressions and have limited experience with Visual
Studio except for VB and C but I believe that your comparisons are
    correct.
From my point of view, Flex is one of the best products I
have used in years. Its databinding ability is incredible. Using
Flex allows you to collapse your technology stack from
HTML/JSP/XSLT/ ... and so on - to Flex with some server technology
like PHP or Java. It takes a bit to get familiar with but if you
have done any Object development it is really not too bad.
How to choose what to use would depend on your project.
If you are building static pages that do not require a lot of
dynamic content then building it in HTML using Dreamweaver could be
    the way to go.
If you are building a complex application and want very rich
content that allow your users to interact with your application at
a very high level or you just want to provide a lot of animated
actions like image rotators or advanced pulldown menus then I would
use Flex. Of course all that stuff is available using other
technologies but the advantage with Flex is the ability to collapse
    the technology stack.
I find my self choosing flex more often than not now. This is
generally because I now have a fairly large set of generic objects
that allow for enhanced user interaction that I can start off a
project with. I also like the idea of having to support and
maintain fewer technologies. Makes my life much easier.
All of the applications I have developed have been for
intranet use so I don't know how search engines such as Google
index your pages. I am not sure if SEO takes into consideration
MXML which is what Flex is written in.

  • Flex application running under AIR takes a long, long time to start.

I have a flex application which runs on a desktop under AIR. The application has an assets folder with 3,500 mp3 soundclips totalling about 50MB. The problem is, the application takes around 90 seconds to load. I'm sure that AIR is scanning the application folder and doing something with the contents because if I delete the assets folder it loads in about 5 seconds. Does anyone know why AIR/Flex would do this, and why it doesn't exhibit the same problem if I run or debug in Flexbuilder on eclipse? It's making my killer app unusable!
    Thanks
    Paulo

Well, I've spent a bit longer looking at this now, and the problem appears to lie with my encrypted local store. The first thing that happens is for the app to read the product key from the ELS. But, it fails (for some unknown reason). So, the app seems to hang there for 90 seconds until it eventually renders the welcome screen. If I remove the assets folder it still fails to read from the ELS, but only takes a couple of seconds to start the welcome screen. This is where the scanning of the application folder seems to come into play, because if I remove the code which reads from the ELS the app starts within 2 seconds whether the asset folder is there or not.
I think the slow startup and the scanning of the assets folder are just symptoms of a different problem, i.e. a problem with the ELS. I don't have the same problem with my development environment though - it's only when I test deploy the application.
Thanks for your help on this problem EgorKDie. I think I should be able to resolve it once I can sort out why the ELS is being awkward.
