Flex time: manual moving of some notes?

I'd like to select 3/4 notes of a guitar solo and move them up (because they are too delayed in relation to the tempo) but I can't find the way to do it. I only get a stretching effect on all previous notes. How can i do?

Since it is a whole song and not just a part, such as drums, with well defined transients, it either can't detect the tempo or when it does it is wrong.

This would be fine if I didn't have to redefine all the transient markers as correct flex markers. Since Flex Time has problems defining the correct transient markers for complete songs it can be very time consuming.
Maybe I'm still missing something?

The audio region anchor in the sample edit window, the orange arrow. I think this is some how turned off after turning on flex time and I am unable to move it. I use this to line up the first beat if there is something before the music starts, such as someone speaking or a lead in with a different tempo than the song tempo, that I would still like to keep. That way I can move the region in the arrange window and it will line up according to the first beat and not the beginning of the region. Am I making any sense?

I can't get Garageband 11 to stretch out a note using Flex Time

Hey all
I've recorded with a real guitar using a USB adapter and I can move a note thats in the wrong position OK but I cant stretch out a note to make it longer using Flex Time.
Its the last note of the song. It just always seems to split the note and move it as opposed to drag/lengthen it out.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I have had the same problem too. Also recorded from a USB guitar interface, but not sure if that is relevant at this point. I have tried a few things to see if I could isolate the cause. Sometimes single shot recordings work right away, sometimes they don't. Somtimes combining clips cause Flextime to stop working. I have completely rebuit a project. Selected individual clips to play solo and exported the result. Took that output and placed it back into a new song and was able to stretch it for the most part. Which led me to believe that it was clip corruption causing the problem. However, while working to get some usable audio clips for a guitar solo, the flextime problems with garageband are starting to make it unusable. Right now I have two clips side by side in the song. I can stretch the timing anywhere in either of the clips. But if I join the clips, flextime no longer works in the joined region. It will only split the notes apart. So if either of those clips were corrupted, flextime would not work in one of them.
I have found ways to get flextime working normally again, sometimes taking up to an hour. Then five minutes later it breaks again. I'm getting really tired of having to recreate my songs to get flextime working again. It would be nice if someone would look into this problem sometime before the year is out.

Can't hear audio when manually moving playhead

This is a very basic question, but I can't seem to find an answer through either the discussion forums or through HELP. I'd like to be able to hear an audio track in the editor by manually moving the playhead (not by selecting the PLAY button) back and forth. Is there a way to do this in Garageband? I can do this in Soundtrack Pro with no problems, but I don't seem to be able to do this very basic editing procedure in Garageband.

Another thing you might find helpful is to use Contour Design's Shuttle Pro. While it works with Garageband, it can't add any features that aren't already there, so while it can move the playhead, it can't actually scrub audio.

It's just what you're used to doing I guess.
I'm not a big scrubber, but I know some audio folks can't live without it and I would imagine most pro DAWs support it. I agree - it's all how you like to work and it may be that GB isn't the DAW for you.

At the very least, I recommend you restart your router, (your internet box).
More detail on your problem is needed - are you in a submarine? On the moon? On a tropical island?
You can help yourself by providing as much info as you can about your present situation - what kind of router do you have? Have you moved it? DId you update it? Did you do anything to change your setup, and if you did, what?

Flex Time with variable tempo not working correctly.

Has anyone else noticed that Flex Time doesn't work as intended if you have variable tempo?
To clarify, I recorded a band playing their song and then figured out their various natural tempo changes and adjusted the Global Tempo Track accordingly.
Then, the drummer recorded his part to a click on that track, obviously keeping with the natural tempo changes that the band played to.
Quantization of MIDI works just fine, as in, it matches the increases and decreases in tempo.
However, attempting to quantize an audio track using Flex Time does not work properly.
I was just wondering if there is something that I'm doing wrong or if this is a known bug.

But there are several Problems using a dummy field in an IDOC structure. We have got a naming convension so that we can't create an IDOC-like structure named ORDRSP.ORDERS05.
But perhaps I am thinking to complex and there is an easier way to add a dummy field to an IDOC structure.
Could you perhaps also suggest a solution for that dummy field problem?

Time Machine setup message, some FileVault folders will not be backed up?

I want to set up my Time Machine for the first time on a Mac Pro running Lion. However, a Time Machine message says some folders will not be backed up because FileVault is turned on:
"When using FileVault, you cannot restore individual files in your home directory via the Time Machine browser. However, you can restore all files and folders by using the Restore System from Backup feature of the Mac OS X Installer. Important: Time Machine will perform backups only when you are logged out of your FileVault-protected account."

You're using the "legacy" (pre-Lion) version of FileVault (LFV). LFV is obsolete and should not be used under OS X 10.7 or later.
When LFV is active, your home folder is only backed up by Time Machine when you log out. If you use Time Machine and haven't logged out recently, do that now so the backups can be updated. If you use third-party backup software, the backups may or may not be up to date, depending on how the software works.
After backing up, follow the instructions on this support page under the heading "Migrating a Legacy FileVault home folder from an earlier version of OS X." You might get an alert that there isn't enough disk space to deactivate LFV. If so, see this support page.

Try resetting the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple Logo appears on the screen. Ignore the red slider if it shows up. You will lose no data.

The time on my iphone 5C is constantly changing, regardless of me setting the correct time manually or automatically, all iOS is up to date and phone is not damaged, any ideas?

The time will stay correct for an hour or so, then jump backwards for no reason. I have tried setting the time manually and automatically and still get the same problem, and have tried with wifi on and off and it still does it. All my software is up to date and tried contacting EE who said to ask Apple. Phone is about 11 months old and have had no previous problems.

Flex Time not working

When I load an older project into Logic 9 I am unable to use the flex time editing in the arrange window. The audio file is analysed but the markers dont appear and neither do the appropriate tools at the cursor. I know the file is analysed because the transients do appear in the sample editor.
Eventually I found the work around by starting with a completely empty project and importing everything with the new import function in the browser. This is the ONLY way that I can use the flex stuff on any of my previous projects. I have had to completely start again with redoing all my templates from scratch if I want to use flex time in a new project as well.
The folks at Apple's pro application support were very patient with me as I worked through all their suggestions but ultimately no help at fixing the problem. There is no question that the facility should work with audio files in older projects. They didn't seem to have heard of the problem occurring before. Anyone else had similar experience?

Had a similar thing myself. Make sure you select the region you want to flex, then make sure that the check box marked "Flex" is checked in the inspector on the left of the arrangement.

ITunes Fix for Manually Moving Music and other Media

Intro
Any iTunes 7.x user who manages their own music library outside of the "iTunes Music" folder might be able to tell you that iTunes DOES NOT respond well after manually moving tracks from one place to another on their computer systems. In fact, any file you move becomes immediately unplayable in iTunes. And, if you're anything like I am, losing several years worth of song rating metadata and playlists is not a good incentive for change. However, one thing others might not be able to tell you is that there's an easy workaround for the problem and you get to keep your playlists, ratings and other info. Read on to learn about the workaround.
About the Workaround
The workaround is a simple hack I devised after recently transferring a good portion of my music library between hard disks and running into problems with iTunes. The fix steps provided below are intended to circumvent the problems with iTunes and give users the freedom to move songs and other media files on their computers while maintaining the integrity of both the ratings and the playlists. Meaning you won't need to manually update the song locations in iTunes one-at-a-time, which, at version 7.02 is the only way to accomplish this task using the program.
Please be aware that not all information is retained using this workaround. What will be lost are the following: the "Recently Added", "Recently Played" and "Top 25 Most Played" iTunes Smart Playlists; any media file play counts; last played information; and possibly some other data used only internally by iTunes.
So, if you're comfortable parting with some metadata while keeping your cherished song ratings and playlists intact during file relocation, read on to learn how to use the workaround.
Workaround Steps
The following instructions walk step-by-step through the process of this workaround.
Note: All backslashes used in file paths have been converted to forward slashes so that they will adhere with MySpace XSS security validation checks. These altered paths can still be copy/paste into Windows Vista's Explorer program once the Username is changed to the User Account where the iTunes files reside.
Preparing for the Move
Before you move your files, do the following:
1. Close iTunes.
2. Create a backup copy of the following files:
iTunes Library XML (iTunes Music Library.xml)
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl)
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Moving Your Files
This part should be self explanatory, but while you do it make sure to note the following two things:
1. The path where the files were previously stored (e.g. D:/Music).
2. The path where the files will end up (e.g. E:/Music).
Execute the Fix
After your files are moved, complete the following steps to implement the fix.
Note: Do not open iTunes during this process.
Hack the iTunes Library XML
Once the files are moved the Library XML file locations will be out of sync. Follow the steps below to update them so that they now reference the correct file locations.
1. Open the iTunes Library XML with a Text Editor with a Find/Replace function.
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Tip: Do not try to do this with Dreamweaver if your Library XML is greater than 10MB.
2. Perform a Find/Replace using the following inputs:
Find: Path from Step 1 of Moving Your Files
Replace: Path from Step 2 of Moving Your Files
3. Confirm your results, and then save and close the Library XML.
Delete the iTunes Music Database
Hacking the iTunes Library isn't enough to fool iTunes. Like the Library XML, the Music Database also holds the file locations of all of the media stored within the program. And it's smart enough to wipe out the Library XML hack if iTunes is opened before completing this step.
Ensure you have backed up the iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl) and delete the file.
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Back in iTunes
Once the fix is in place you can now open iTunes again. You will notice that all of your playlists, music and other items have vanished. In order to recover them all (with the exception of the Smart Playlists mentioned in the About the Workaround section above) we'll need to import the hacked Library XML file back into iTunes.
1. Open iTunes and press CtrlShiftO or go to File > Import…
2. Navigate to and Open your modified Library XML (as pictured below).
3. iTunes will then begin importing the contents of the XML file (as pictured below).
Note: This process may take a while, depending on the size if your library.
Wrapping Up
Once the import process is complete iTunes will look almost exactly the way you left it, with the exception that some playlists have been duplicated and the number of songs may be a hair off. To fix this problem delete any duplicate playlists in the "Library" panel in iTunes. You can now test out the changes by selecting an item moved earlier and testing it out. All that's left from there is to let iTunes perform any automated analysis it needs to do and rock on.

I appreciate your detailed workaround post. My question is this: I use iTunes to keep everything organized (though I'm well aware of the shortcomings...) and can use the simple solution that Chris from CA posted, but I don't have room to consolidate everything. My read on consolidating is that you copy from wherever you have your music located (and right now my music is outside of the MyMusic/iTunes folder, as that backs up to my work server) and so you have to have enough room for all of your music to be copied (and then you delete it from its prior location). That's how Apple describes it in, e.g., http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748. I ain't go that kind of room. Is there any way to make the move to a completely different PC by following the simple option? From the posting I just linked it sounds like you MUST consolidate whether you use you iPod to move things or use an external drive.
Of course, I can use your workaround, but I thought I'd ask first. Many thanks.
