Flex, URLRequest and Fusebox

Hi,
I am doing some Flex and CF work here. I am using CF 8 and
Flex 3 beta.
I am building this file upload component in Flex where the
user can upload a file. I got the code working but it only seems to
work when I call my CF based upload script (essentially a CFFILE
tag) directly. Since I am using Fusebox everything goes through
index.cfm.

So essentially I am trying to call a fuseaction that will in
turn call the actual .cfm page which contains the <CFFILE>
tag. How can I do this? Again it works just fine if I call the .cfm
page directly in the URLRequest() method, but I would much rather
call a fuseaction. Any idea on how to do this? I tried the above,
but it does not seem to work, I got a File I/O run-time error.

Flex SDK and AIR runtime version in mobile

Hi, guys.
I'm trying to make my first Flex mobile app.
I'm a little confused about the relationship between Flex SDK and AIR runtime versions for mobile development.
In the "Developing Mobile Applications with ADOBE FLEX 4.6 and ADOBE FLASH BUILDER 4.6" pdf document, it says:
"AIR requirements
Flex mobile projects and ActionScript mobile projects require AIR 2.6 or a higher version. You can run mobile projects on physical devices that support AIR 2.6 or a higher version of AIR.
You can install AIR 2.6 or a higher version only on supported Android devices that run Android 2.2 or a higher version. For the complete list of supported Android devices, see Certified Devices. Also, review the minimum system requirements to run Adobe AIR on Android devices at Mobile System Requirements.
Note: If you do not have a device that supports AIR 2.6 or a higher version of AIR, you can use Flash Builder to launch and debug mobile applications on the desktop."
So, I go and check the Certified devices in http://www.adobe.com/devnet-apps/flashruntimes/certified-devices.html and find that the minimun FLASH PLAYER version accepted by ALL devices is FP 10.1
1. Does this mean that if I want to release an app to target ALL mobile devices, then I can only use Flex 4.5?
2. Do support for Flash Player mean the same than support for Adobe AIR? Or the application will prompt the user to install whatever version of the AIR runtime and all of them would be supported by the device, even in the FLASH PLAYER support is for a lesser version?

The first impression that comes to mind is that FP version is indeed only for the web browser plugin. Then, why does the official Flex 4.6 mobile development documentation have a link to that page that only speaks about the supported FP version in mobiles under the title "AIR requirements"??
This makes it way too confusing.
Do you know whether there is something like an equivalent matrix/list of mobile devices with their supported AIR runtime versions? I went a great deal in trying to keep my original app under 400kb... I didn't know that in the end it would end up weighing 9.5Mb... :S

Flex 3 to Flex 4 migration issue (Flex charting and Special char)

WORKING example of BlazeDS with Flex 3 and FlexBuilder

Can someone point me to an actual working example with BlazeDS used with Flex 3 and Eclipse?
The examples on livedocs are broken or imcomplete. Others work to varying degrees but fail at some point.
What I'd like to see is the following:
1. How to create a project using
     a. Flex 3.0
     b. BlazeDS
     c. Eclipse - FULL project creation and deployment instructions.
     d. An example where the project is NOT created within the BlazeDS webapp that comes with the BlazeDS/Tomcat combo.
     e. An example where the ENTIRE project can be compiled and deployed to Tomcat in one shot.
     f. An example where a DB can he altered using standard CRUD methods with the display displaying updated records without and event being used to
         refresh the view of the records.
This shouldn't be too much to ask if Flex is to be expected to be taken seriously in data-driven applications. I've looked all over the web for weeks for something likethis and have come up with nothing. I don't need Spring or Hibernate at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm working on a proof-of-concept at this time and the pressure is mounting to come up with something.

Flex 3 and Java - Integrated Development on Eclipse

I am new to flex as well as to eclipse. I have downloaded
Adobe Flex Builder 3.0 and installed it. I want to use java at the
back-end, but I don't have Java perspective option in eclipse.
Therefore, I am currently using 2 IDE(s), one is
flex-builder, and other is Eclipse for Web tool platform
(eclipse-jee-europa-winter-win32.zip).
Is there anyway that I can benefit integrated development of
Flex and java using same IDE?

I wouldn't try it really... it's not worth the issues you'd
probably run into and the work of getting it setup, if it's even
possible. I just run Eclipse and FB separate. If you have a gig of
ram you should be fine doing this I think.
If you *really* want to get rid of one, you can use the Flex
plugin for Eclipse, but I've heard people complain about it not
playing nice with Java.

Flex 3 and LCDS Integration

I am trying to build an application which needs remoting. I
was trying to implement this using Flex 3 and LCDS.
I have some experience with flex, but I am pretty new to
LCDS. Can any one please direct me to a good tutorial on getting a
web app to work with flex and lcds? The documentation on Adobe
website doesn't help much.

Protected Flex field and Custom Views

Hi,
I have created some project variables in oracle bpm 11.1.1.6.0 project.After deployment, these variables are coming as Protected flex field but for some reason these are not visible when I define custom views.
I also tried creating Protected flex field on BPm workspace, mapped these variables to human task payload, yet again when creating custom view i cannot see them.
This problem is only happening with protected flex field and not public flex field.
Please let me know how to add protected flex fields in custom view.

I have to build and RIA for a Companys Intranet and i am not sure, if it is legal or possible to do so for free with the Flex SDK?
I also would like to know, whats the difference between the Free Adobe Flex SDK and the OPen Source Flex SDK? Which of those do i need to
create the website for free? (If its possible).

Thanks for the link, I did search a little while before making the original post. I guess I wasn't searching for the right thing though.
The method I found listed in here seems to work in IE but not Firefox. It could just be a caching issue though I'm not real familiar with firefox and don't really know how to get it to forget that it's been to a page already.
I also updated the link listed above to ask about any changes in the last upgrade related to this.
This was related to caching in firefox and it worked fine after I logged out of my apex.oracle.com account and cleared the personal cache in firefox and then started over.

Error 2032 in communication between Flex Client and WCF

Hi All,
I'm trying to establish communication between Flex Client
and WCF service.
WCF service accepts gZip compressed data and returns gZip
compressed results.
So I used Flex ByteArray.compress() and
ByteArray.uncompress() for this purpose. However, it throws error
2032.
The gZip compression/decompression uses MemoryStream class in
C#. Based on my previous experience, memory stream communication
between Flex and C# gives erro 2032.
Is there a work around for this?

I read some thread in the forum, and found somebody had the similar problem with me. Just want to know how to settle this problem.
In the client/server program. Client is a JAVA program and Server a
VC++ program. The connection works, and the problem appears after some time. The Client sends a lots of requests to Serverm, the server seems receive nothing. But at the same time, the server is able to send messages to Client. The Client also can get the messages and handle them. Don't understand why there this problem and why it appears when it wants.
The client is a Win2k platorm with JDK1.3.1 and the server is also a Win2K platform with VC++ 6.0.
In the Client, using:
inputFromServer = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream()));
outputToServer = new PrintWriter(new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(socket.getOutputStream())),true);

Flex mobile and PHP project

Hi! Recently I've downloaded the Flash Builder for PHP to work with my Zend Server remotely located in OpenShift online. I did not download and install the Zend Server physically on my computer. Hence, when creating the Flex mobile and PHP project, I couldn't find my web root address. Now I have an error connecting to the MySQl database in the server from the Flash Builder. Can someone help me with this? I'm new to using these programs.

PHP is server side.
If you want to have a app to function offline you would probably need sqlite and then code actionscript to synch data when the device regains it's connectivity.

Flex SDK and online emulation coding, your opinion on my project

Hi to everybody,
I'm an actionscript developer and I've started a project 2 years ago.
Since I wanted to test dynamic bitmap generation, I started this path by coding a graphic driver that emulates some old graphic chip used in consoles.
I could see it can work very well in AS3, so thanks to Flex SDK and FDT I have coded some more complex emulators.
Llittle by little I've built some classes that emulate some more chips such as SN76489, AY-3-8910, Konami SCC, Namco, TMS9918/TMS9928 and other graphic drivers for arcade emulation.
There are few project around the web on this subject, some of them such as fMAME are done thanks to Alchemy but, mine is pure AS3 with a lot of otimization, simple code, byte code friendly structures and a lot of caching methods.
The audio has to be fixed, I still haven't find a good caching way to play the audio generated by emulated sound chips with the streaming feature of flash player. To increase quality and fidelity, I need to rise the buffer, but the delay between a graphic event and its corresponding sound rises too...
Unfortunately on some old PC and some netbook they are a little slow because they use a lot of CPU and memory. I will be very glad if you can tell me your opinin about this work and eventually your PC configuration you are playing with.

You can set the maximum number of connections by using:
ServerSocket server = new ServerSocket( port, backlog );
Where backlog is the number of connections at any one time. I'm not sure - but I'm guessing that the physical limit is dictated by your hardware. Once you queue is full of connections, you are right - any further connections are refused. The default number of connections is 50.

Does anyone know if Flex 2 is setup to be SCORM compliant?
Working for the USAF all of our new developments need to be and if
we could with Flex 2 and still be SCORM compliant that would be one
headache down.

I believe that Flex 2 IS SCORM compliant. There isn't much
out there about it. I've got a friend whose company is developing
an LMS with a Flex front end, and we are researching at my company
to look at going in that direction as well. I'll come back and
update this as I find any further information.

Flash Pro CS5 Convert to Flex Component and SWC export

Hi,
my question is about the Flash Pro CS5 and Flash Builder 4 (Flex 4) integration.
My goal is simple - to make a simple graphic in a MovieClip and then export that for use in Flash Builder 4. I found out I have 2 ways of doing that:
1) -> create the MovieClip with the graphic
    -> export it for ActionScript with a name of the class
    -> select the symbol in the library again and export SWC file. Total size of this SWC in my example is 24kb.
    -> put the SWC in the libs folder and use the class/component which should be put inside SpriteVisualContainer or UIMovieClip
2) -> create the MovieClip with the graphic
    -> export it for ActionScript with a name of the class
    -> select it in the libraly and then select Commands -> Convert Symbol to Flex Component
Now here we can do 2 things:
    -> select the symbol in the library and export SWC file. Total size here is 104kb.
    -> publish the whole project and use its SWC file.
And last:
    -> put the SWC in the libs folder and use the class/component wherever you want because it's already extending UIMovieClip.
So My point is that with the first way I need to use just one simple container to put my component into and I save like 80 kb. Why would I want to use the second way, just to be more comfortable or there are other reasons too?
I was thinking that maybe I could put more flex converted components in the fla file so I would then export the swc with all of them being already flex components and that 80kb will be shared for all of them, which makes sense of using this feature, but if someone could confirm my thinking is right or there was some other better purpose or way of doing things in an optimised way, I will be glad to hear them.
