Flicker on TV monitor

I'm working on Final Cut Pro 3.
Right now i'm working on a project with still photos (jpegs) and some of them move vertically and some move horizontally. I didn't notice it on the computer screen, but when I output my project on DV and watched on the TV screen, I noticed that most of my photos were have these rainbow colored flickers when they move. and I've searched through the previously asked questions, and people seem to use the word "flicker", but i'm just confused whether that's the same flicker I'm seeing, cause my flickers happens on some parts of the photos, and not the whole photo.
If anyone knows any solution, let me know! thank you in advance!!!

-Tone down the "whites".
-Also apply a small amount of vertical blur to all or part of the image(s).
-If you have any horizontal lines, make them wider or out them on an angle.

  • Still images exported to DVD look deinterlaced and flicker on TV monitor

    Hi,
I have tried tried almost everything and I still have issues with the still images exported to DVD as sequencefrom FCP 7.0 by using Compressor are deinterlaced and flicker on TV monitor. Please help remove the annoying flicker.
My FCP Timeline Sequence settings match the image resolution:
    Frame Size: 1024 x 682 (double of 720 x 480 standard DVD res)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance: None
Compressor: Photo JPG (also tried, DVCPRO-NTSC)
I cropped the original images in Photoshop to the 1024 x 682 and saved as tiffs. They still look deinterlaced in FCP timeline and exported to DVD on my iMac computer monitor.
Final output of DVD will be on this monitor:
    Specifications:
    Ikegami
    Model: VCM-2101
    Resolution: 450 TV Lines (Horizontal)
Should I crop the images to 450 horizontal pixels or the double of that 900?
How can I match the sequence or the images settings to avoid the flicker and deinterlaced look on that monitor? I am not able to test the image by having the monitor next to computer.
    Compressor:
I used custom DVD settings in Compressor for 90 min best quality DVD. Tried the Porgressive and "Same as Source" in Output field.
In "Crop to" and "Padding" I set for preserve source aspect ratio and letterbox area of source.
I followed the advices from below and I still did not resolve the problem. Please is there anythign else I can try?
    Thanks a lot..

Things to try (In increasing order of image degradation)
    - (in FCP) field order>none
    - (in FCP or Photoshop) reduce whites by 10% - reduces overly bright areas
    - (in FCP) flicker filter - minimum
    - (in Photoshop) motion blur>vertical> .2 - .5 pixels - blurs vertically only
    - (In FCP or Photoshop) Gaussian blur> .2 - .5 pixels -blurs both horizontally as well as vertically
    - (in FCP or Photoshop) deinterlace - throws away half the image and is generally not appropriate on scanned images

    Dear Russ,
Thank you very much. Yes, there is something else in the sequence, old documentary, 768 x 570 (no field dominance, 25fps, Apple ProRes 422) but the images are more imporant.
make a progressive sequence with  square pixels. (I am partial to 720P, 1080 should work – or 540). Choose Pro Res 422
Do you mean that I should make a sequence in FCP with these settings? If yes, how can I set a "progressive" sequence? I dont see a setting for output field in FCP sequence settings, lnly in customizing Compressor output DVD format.
Also: "720P, 1080 should work – or 540" are you talking about Frame size? If so, to set in Compressor or in FCP?
If you have interlaced material, then de-interlace before you bring it in. If you don't have interlaced clips, don't de-interlace.
The images are not interlaced after  I crop them, apply motion blur filter in Photoshop but look interlaced in FCP timeline after I import them and even to the same as photos sequence in FCP timeline.
Please help and thank you for your comments.

  • IMac early 2008 occasional screen flicker with external monitor

I am experiencing flickering with my early 2008 iMac when driving an external monitor. My Thinkpad is flawless when pushing out to the monitor.
It will be fine, but occassionaly (every 5-20seconds) the screen gives a little flicker, about 1/4 of a second in duration.
Also, sometimes, there is no flickering, it depends on what is being displayed, which makes me think video card. I am using the 2400XT and my software is up to date.
    ROM Revision: 113-B2250H-259
    EFI Driver Version: 01.00.259
I am thinking about trying to source a 2600pro that came on the more high end version of my iMac and swap out the graphics card. I also want to drop a 2TB hdd in it, so I figure I might as well kill 2 birds with one stone, or kill 1 iMac with 2 simutaneous upgrades if I am unlucky! (o_O)

iMacs are not designed to have the graphics cards upgraded. If your old card is bad and you feel competent to exchange it for the same one that's really your only GPU option. Apple never said the iMac GPU's were upgradeable and frankly I've never heard of anyone successfully upgrading an iMac GPU.
As far as the adaptor well you could bring your system into an Apple Store and have it checked out by a Genius, it's a free service. I don't know how to make a reservation in Japan but I'm sure you can from the Japanese Apple site. The link in the US is:
    http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
I'm providing that so you can look for something equivalent.

  • Screen flicker on external monitor

Has anyone had any experience with screen flicker on an external monitor?  I connected my laptop to an external monitor and I get consistent flicker on the whole screen.  If anyone can help, or could help pointing me to website etc. I'd appreciate it.

Good suggestions guys I'll put out some more information.  The cable is ok (good thought to check for it).  I plugged my vga cable to my tv and do not get the screen flicker.  Also I'm using the ati driver which possibly has the same problem as the intel, one.  I configured my xorg.conf as describe in the wiki xrandr page:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xra … _xorg.conf
One thing that I noticed that is a bit odd is the xrandr reports the display rate as 60.1.  I've never seen this before so right now I'm thinking that it has to do with that.
    xrandr
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 1440 x 1440
    VGA-0 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 410mm x 257mm
    1440x900 60.1 + 75.0*
    1400x1050 74.9 60.0
Still up the river so any more suggestions would be definitely appreciated.

  • Screen flicker with multiple monitors

I tried plugging an external monitor into my laptop and though the second screen came up it caused both screens to flicker continuously with horizontal lines going across. This happened both when I used xrandr manually and when I used the Gnome control panel. It's been a while since I used an external monitor so I'm not sure if a particular update broke anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Try to run all displays in the same resolution (the settings of the less advanced, smaller display, not the other way around). Additional displays require additional processing, close other applications. Unplug the 23" for now, try it when you've got everything else running. Restart connected computers after you've changed settings on any detectable display. Make sure the bandwidth is sufficient for screen sharing on both ends. (I would use Spaces on the remote computer to create speedy access to applications.) When this works, try to connect the external display.

I heard there is a nvidia driver installation conflict on Win8 because of windows update.
    Try this:
1). Disable windows Auto-Update and disconnect your internet connection.
2). Reinstall the geforce driver with Custom(Advanced) and checklist the Clean install
PS: You can use the latest optimus driver from lenovo or from nvidia site http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

  • Monitor is flickering after upgrading to Mavericks

    Hi eveyone,
As many of you already did, today I've upgraded my MacBook Pro i5 2.5 GHz/8GB RAM from Mountain Lion (10.8.5) to Mavericks (10.9).
Unfortunately, I'm experiencing serious and unpleasant issues since I installed the upgrade.
Specifically, my monitor flickers almost every time I scroll an application window (e.g., Safari) either using an USB mouse or the trackpad.
Moreover, when I pass the mouse over the Dock, this starts vibrating from time to time.
The same happens also to the external monitor I usually connect to my laptop via the MiniDisplay to VGA cable. The external monitor is an LCD Samsung SyncMaster B1940MR.
After several reboots and given that one of the new features of Mavericks is the new management of external monitors, I've tried to re-install from scratch the OS X upgrade without connecting my laptop to the external LCD but still nothing has changed.
I'm really annoyed by having both monitors flickering. Another particular thing is that if I try to click on the Finder menu appearing on the external monitor, this makes flicker the primary monitor approximately at the same coordinates (i.e., at the Finder menu of the laptop monitor).
It seems like something is going wrong with the video card drivers but this is just my conjecture.
Are you guys experiencing the same or is there anything you might want to suggest to solve these issues?
    Thank you in advance

Iv upgraded to maverick and not at all happy... first off my thunderbolt does not work any more....
And now the apple monitor im using with my laptop (macbook pro I7 2.2ghz / 8gb ram / AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB) via mini dvi flash's to a black screen every now and then...
Im not sure about the monitor flickers you guys are getting? Im literally getting the monitor display a black screen as if the apple screen is switching off and on again because of loss of signal?
Really anoying when trying to right code and design!
APPLE FIX THIS PLEASE! before i download adobe suite for my windows 8 partition!! and yes i just said that! >_<

  • No video on new Mac Mini

Hi, I seem to have a problem, that I need help for.
I have just bought a new 1.83 GHZ Intel Mac Mini. However, when I turn it on, my monitor (which is a Samsung Syncmaster 970p),it stays black.
The mini starts up all right, and I can hear the sounds when I press my keyboard, but no picture. The monitor works fine with my Windows-laptop, and when I turn the mini on, the blue light on the monitor lights up, but there is no picture.
When I use DVI, nothing happens at all, but when I connect with a VGA-cable, using the adapter, there is a flicker on the monitor, every few seconds.
I really hope that you can help me out!
    Thanks
    Klumb

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Try these things in order - moving on to the next in the event that the suggestion doesn't work.
First thing to try: Check the display to ensure if there is a menu option for connector, you have the right one selected. I'd focus on VGA first, since some dual input displays that have had problems have suffered DVI compatibility issues, but worked well in VGA.
Secondy: Disconnect the video cable(s) and any adapters, then reconnect, making sure everything is done up tight.
Third: disconnect the display, then reboot the mini. Once the system has had enough time to be fully running, connect the display.
Fourth: connect the mini to a different display to see if that works - and incidentally to complete the setup process if you haven't already been able to do so.
Fifth: once the system has been set up, reboot with the shift key down to get it into safe mode. If the display works then, open the display preferences pane and set it to a basic 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution. Then reboot.
Sixth: try a different DVI/VGA adapter.
If you can't get the mini to work with any other display, return it to where it came from, and ask for a replacement. It it does work with other displays, it suggests your Syncmaster is one of the few displays that the mini isn't happy with. If possible, take it to where you can connect it to other Macs and see if it works OK.

  • Can't open specific program - any ideas?

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct part of the forum for this question but I couldn't find anyplace else that looked appropriate. Yesterday I tried to open a program called "J Album" that I had loaded to my G5 several months ago. It may not be relevant, but this is photo related software that allows you to create very nice looking albums/slideshows that you can then upload to another site.
At the time I initially installed the software (downloaded from Jalbum site) everything worked fine. Now when I try to open Jalbum there is a brief flicker on my monitor but nothing happens, the program does not open. I then removed the application from my apps folder and downloaded the latest version of Jalbum. Tried to open it and same results, nothing happens except a quick flicker on the screen.
I then tried opening Jalbum on my wife's G5, also running OSX 10.4.11. No problem, the program opened and functioned correctly.
Any ideas what might be going on here, and how I can fix it? Worst case I could use my wife's G5 to run the program, but then I'll need to move large numbers of photos to her machine; and I'll also catch massive flack for using her Mac rather than my own to do my work! Not the preferred course of action!!
Thanks in advance for any ideas!

You can narrow down the possible causes by creating a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane. Log out and log in to the new account. Does the problem recur in the new account?
If not, you have narrowed down the problem to something in your current user account. Could be another preference file or something else in
    <user home folder>/Library/
Look in the Cache folder and other places for something with the app's name.
If it does recur with the new user account, there is something amiss with your overall system, or with the current installation of the program. There may be some components related to the program in
    <startup volume>/Library/Application Support/
and other locations within that top level Library folder. Again, look for something with the app's name.
If the apps installer has an uninstall option, you should use it.

Perhaps the applications preferences are corrupted and causing it to crash on launch.
    Either…
Create a new user account on the G5 and try running the App in question. Success means there is something in your user account broken. The preferences file should be in YOUR HOME FOLDER/Library/Preferences, but there could be other items the app loads in the Library/Application Support etc.
Try trashing (it's safer to move to the Desktop) any items that have jalbum in the name (or the name of the software manufacturer) that are in the HOME/Library/Preferences. The pref files should be called something like com.apple.Finder.plist with the makers name first followed by the app name.

  • Video interference from hard drive

I've got a Wind 1.6 Atom with 2GB and a Kingston 7200.10 160 GB drive. When ever the drive is spinning, I get a very slight flicker on my monitor, a Samsung 19 flat panel. I tried moving the computer further from the display, but it's still doing it. Any ideas? The flicker is very subtle, but, well, it's annoying.

Okay, in utter frustration, I decided to install Windows 7. Well, the install screen was doing the same thing, so I bagged that.
I also noted that the power cord was wrapped in a coil next to the display plug, so I unraveled that. I went to the BIOS and reset all the options. I made sure I had the display set to the default resolution.
I suppose I can try another monitor, but this is a good one and was running fine on a different computer.
I did note that the BIOS was version 1.2. I guess I should flash the most recent one? My hunch is that I've got a bad display card. I know I have to eliminate all other possibilities, but does anybody know what the warranty is on one of these guys?
    Thanks for all your help

  • Lite bluish tint to screen

    Hi -
Just got the new Imac dual core a few weeks ago and woke it out of sleep mode and noticed a slight flicker happened, and now I feel like there is a lite bluish tint to all the whites now (for example looking at the Google homepage), almost as if a light blue thin film has been placed over the monitor screen.
I reset all the monitor calibrations in System Preferences but nothing seemed to change.
It's not interfering with any work but is driving me crazy, like an itch I can't scratch.
Also, don't know if its related but I notice a light constant flicker with the monitor goes into sub-sleep mode and the screen dims for a bit.
Anyone else had this problem or heard anything like it? Not sure if its worth taking in to Apple store...
    thanks for any input

    Sunny's mommy wrote:

A very reasonable approach; I suspect you enjoy using your computer.
I never understood how important work could be done while viewing grey bars across one's screen looking for minute colour variations. When my screen blanker was displaying my photos with the Ken Burns effect, I looked hard to see the colour variation in a given portion of the photo as the photo moved at various angles across the screen - couldn't swear I could see a problem on the monitor I'm using now. If I stare hard enough at alternating light and dark grey bars on the screen, I might even see the Shroud of Turin on the screen eventually. On this monitor or any monitor.
Okay, I'll be serious for a moment...
I am not denying there are some with very evident and serious colour problems of course. But for the vast majority, considering the price of the entire 27" iMac is less than half the price of a professional-grade colour Eizo monitor... e.g. $4,400 for a 30" monitor with 97% Adobe RGB colour-space and only 290 cd/m², I don't think every monitor will be perfectly uniform. Eizo verifies uniformity over 25 points on the display. I don't know what Apple does of course.
    http://www.eizo.com/global/products/coloredge/cg301w/index.html
I have noticed several people saying they can tolerate a little colour variation, but the flickering / tearing / blackouts are not acceptable. I agree with that and also expect those problems will be resolved in our first year of ownership so everyone will be covered by their warranty.

You have posted in the G5 forum, but yes, there have been reports of color problems with the new intel, usually a yellowish tint near the bottom of the screen. In any case, call Apple and discuss it with them, and make sure you get Apple Care before the end of your first year of ownership!
