Flickering 2nd Screen on Tecra A4

I have a Tecra A4, which I have recently plugged into a samsung syncmaster 920nw monitor to use as a 2nd screen.
I've tried the screen with other computers and works fine. However, when I use it with my laptop, with the resolution 1440x900 I get faint flickering horizontal lines on the screen. It doesnt do it when I reduce the resolution, or when I use it as the only screen, just when used as 1 of 2 screens and at that resolution. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks
Rob

Hi mate,
this "faint flickering" could have 2 main reasons:
1. The display cable from your notebook is not enough shielded. The problem is, that the notebook is only grounded trough the AC, but the AC cannot filter all interferences from your main power cable. Additionally, the LCD hangs on the same line like your notebook, so you can imagine that the interferences reach the LCD trough the display cable since you have some kind of "ground-loop". Its a little bit complicated, but maybe you can imagine what I mean.
The solution would be to obtain some thick and doubleshielded display cable to avoid the interferences which are coming from your notebook.
2. The second reason like I already explained could be the AC-Adapter. If the AC-adapter has 3 connectors on the outer side from the ac to the wall, then the interferences are self-explaining due to this "ground-loop". In such case you should purchase a Ac-adapter which has only the cable with 2 connectors on the AC-adapter side. (And not the cable with that 2 connectors which seem like a triangle.)
Thats everything.
New display cable or new AC-adapter (with only 2 connectors) or both of them -> TURBOsolution ;)

    Hello Marcel,
It sounds like you are wanting to use the iMac in Target Display mode with your PC. Target Display mode is a feature that is supported from one Mac to another Mac according to this article:
OS X Mavericks: Use another Mac as a display
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14264
Target Display Mode lets you use a Mac as the external display for another, “primary” Mac.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Problem with two monitors while using Photoshop, windows move from 2nd screen to 1st screen.

Problem with two monitors while using Photoshop, windows move from 2nd screen to 1st screen.
I saved a new workspace and it did not help.
No problem before I went to Maverick.

I found the fix, go to System Preferences and open Mission Control and uncheck the box to keep monitors as they were (When switching to an application...........)

  • 2nd screen not recognised after reconnecting to Macbook Pro

I've got a Macbook Pro at work. It's connected to a 2nd monitor via HDMI cable, but I have to unplug the laptop and take it to meetings sometimes.
Since upgraded to Maversicks, the laptop doesn't recognise the 2nd screen when the laptop is reconnected. I've tried unpluging the cable, putting the laptop to sleep, but no luck yet.  The only way seems to work is to restart the laptop with the cable connected to get the 2nd screen. This is quote annoying after a few of times in aday.
Does anyone come across this and find a solution?

    Thanks

  • Use TV as 2nd screen thru apple TV

    Hi,
I just bought a apple TV, and I want to use it not only to share photos etc.. but also as a real 2nd screen:
i.e. just as my powerbook screen, is that possible?

If you mean can you mirror your computer desktop using the Apple TV, then sorry the answer is no, you can do this with a simple cable though.

  • OSX: I would like DW opens on the 2nd screen

I use DW CS5 on a MacBook Pro with a 2nd monitor connected.
I would like DW opens on the 2nd screen (because it's much bigger) and so used the MacBook screen for my browser tests.
But I can not find the way to move DW to 2nd screen.

Not really.  You are thinking like Einstein was thinking when he wanted  his kitten to go in the small hole he drilled specifically while the kitten's mum had her own big hole.  To his surprise both went through the same big hole and he said what a waste of time drilling the small hole!!!!
You haven't said how you have connected the two monitors.  Are you using some switches like KVM switches that can do the job most efficiently? <http://www.kvms.com/Product/GCS78.aspx>
There must be some cheap ones in your area so just shop around.
Alternatively, Just connect one monitor (big one) to your machine which you work on and to view your pages you will need to upload the files somewhere so that your other machine can connect to them using the browser like any other websites.  You need two machines to do this, of course!

  • Using older Apple screen as a 2nd screen on G5 Quad

    I have a G5 Quad with a GeForce6600 card (256mb)
I have a newer 23" Cinema display at the moment
I have the possibility of an older 22" display (the white-bordered display that can connect direct to the back of the Mac)
Can I connect the older one as a 2nd screen without a card upgrade?
It looks like I have the correct connection at the back but i would like to check before I but it

If the older display uses ADC (round ends, squeeze clips) you will need a DVI to ADC adapter

  • Any file dragged onto desktop of 2nd screen are moved to main screen

I have a dual monitor setup. When I drag an item (file/folder/app) from a folder to the desktop of the 2nd screen, the item is automatically moved to the top right of my main screen.
When I drag an item onto the main screen, the item stays where I put it. Meaning, it's acts as expected on the main screen.
I do not have "keep arranged by" or "snap to grid" turned on - but it acts that way only the 2nd screen.
This applies to any type of file or folder. It happens when dragging from an app, or from a folder.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -JD

Unfortunately, I get the same behaviour when I log in as a clean, new user as well.
I don't recall this being an issue in Panther... or at least earlier versions of Tiger.
Does anyone else see this situation on their dual monitor setup.

  • Place dock on bottom of 2nd screen?

I have 2 monitors, the only way I can find to get the dock off of the main screen (menu bar screen) is to change it's position to a side. I would like the dock on the 2nd screen (without menu bar) but still on the bottom. I was toying with the dock's plist a bit, seems like there should be an option like the side pinning that lets you offset it to a specific screen, or atleast by a certain amount (e.g. I could pin it left on the bottom, then offset it right by the width of the screen to push it to the 2nd screen...)

    ima747,
You can move the menu bar and dock to either screen but they stay together. In System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab. You can drag that little white bar, in the menu bar position, to to either screen. But again, the dock goes with the menu bar.

  • Flickering white screen on iPod touch?

Flickering white screen appears when iPod is turned on. After a few tries I finally get
Few times I get the locked screen.
Tried reset and restart, but problem persists.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • UI/Application window is randomly jumping around... often to my 2nd screen

    CS6 running on OSX Lion.
I am having a frustrating issue with InDesign CS6.
Frequently the entire application window will jump around... sometimes with the toolbox shifting to my 2nd screen... other times the entire application window jumping to the 2nd screen...
The only fix I have is to Quit InDesign and restart.
Does anyone know how to fix this...?

    try this:
    reboot the CPU.
    run the application as normal.
If the window goes off screen, reset your resolution to the point where you can see the window for the misbehaving application.
Move the window to the top left of your screen.
    quit the program
    rest resolution to normal.
    run the program.
does its window appear on screen/where it should be located, not off screen?

I decided to try and boot from the Tiger discs, but when I did, all I got was a screen that looked like a blizzard of pixels.
The firmware was likely changed and it's not compatible anymore or the disk is bad.
I was able to boot using the Snow Leopard disc from both my new MBP and my girlfriends MB, but both said that OS X could not be installed on this computer, and I couldn't even use the disc utility to wipe the drive.
Those disks don't have the hardware drivers your machine needs.
Your going to need to get a Snow Leopard retail install disk from Amazon/elsewhere.
Do I need to have a serial number to reinstall OS X?
    Thankfully No.

My homepage is and has been igoogle.com, this site has two screens. Randomly the site display jumps to the 2nd screen. It's easy enough to scroll back to the 1st screen, but annoying. I recently added the 3-D tabs add-on. Thinking that was the problem I deleted the add-on with no effect on the problem

    Hello Steve.
You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
