Flickering stills   CS4.2.1

I added a lot of pictures which I found on the internet to the timeline. These pictures were low definition so I sharpened them, trimmed them and put them in the timeline. They show perfectly well in Premiere, but when I burn the film to Blu-ray using H.264, the pictures flicker badly and the sound intermittently cuts out. This does not happen if I use MPEG-2 but I want to use H.264 because in other respects H.264 is better. I tried de-interlace, flicker removal and it did no good. I also tried exporting the sharpened pictures from the timeline as TIFF files, then re-importing them and putting them back in the timeline. This improved it slightly, but it still flickers and the sound cuts out. What is happening and how can I fix it? Would putting the pictures in Photoshop and exporting them as jpeg help?

Tim,
I assume that you are starting with JPEG's to begin with. Is that correct?
I would process your Images in PS, and would go very lightly on the Sharpening. That alone can cause "shimmer," or "flicker," especially around higher-contrast borders in the Image.
In CS 4, I would also Scale the Image in PS, to match the Frame Size of your Project, prior to Import.
Once the processing has been completed in PS, I would Save_As PSD (no more compressions, like with a Save_As JPEG), or PNG, and then Import those.
With the MPEG-2 DVD compression, many actually add a touch of Blur to say Type, to improve the look on a DVD-Video. I will often do just a touch of Vertical Blur, as the resultant Video will be Interlaced. Like Sharpening, a little goes a very long way, so experiment.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Why it is still jumping and flickering in CS4 source monitor ?!

I've converted AVCHD 1920x1080 50i 25mbps m2ts files (shot by sony hdrcx350ve) in sony vegas 9 pro to hdv 1440x1080 25fps bitrate 25000 upper fields first.
When opened in media player everything seems allright footage has no artifacts. The same footage imported to cs4 during playback in source monitor has some strange artifacts. Picture is jumping - flickering: long lines from left to right side of screen during motion. Prestets are set directly to footage attributes.
I've already tried many options of conversion and nothing seems to be working. I used tmpg enc, sony vegas, avc encoder.
    What it is?
    What I am doing wrong?
    What to do?
    Is this codec problem?
    Please help
Sometimes the same footage converted at the same conditions and presets is looking good in media player sometimes is flickering.

  • Flickering still images

I'm a new user of DVD Studio Pro and it has worked well for me, but I've hit snag.
In addition to a number of video clips on a DVD project I'm using a series of menus to display still images. Each menu has a still of a frog and a still of a range map for that species of frog. I'm putting these stills in drop zones in order to get them on the menu and to be able to size them appropriately.
The problem is that when I burn the DVD the images on these menus flicker or seem alternate between two versions of the images. If I look at the drop zone properties I can see that motion is enabled and grayed out in most cases. The navigation buttons I placed along the bottom of the menu also look strange and don't work reliably. Any suggestions?

what part of the image is flickering? text, the whole thing, or something thin?
DVDSP isnt really designed for any type of editing or creation.
I would suggest you make all your Menu backgrounds (with your frogs and maps) in photoshop and make a merged copy then place those as the background of the menu and only use text in DVDSP.
since you are using drop zones, its almost like having layers. DVDSP doesn't like layers which is why i make background images for everything.
if your text is flickering the a few things might be happening... text is either to small or to thin... you shouldnt go below 20pt for size and dont use anything with serifs or thin letters. those will flicker due to the nature of encoding.
if it still flickers after that then you might have to add either a really slight blur to your item thats flickering or maybe even create a quicktime movie using a flicker filter in final cut.
are you using compressor to encode your video? (also use Dolby 2.0 AC3) files for Audio.
this might help... if not you might help me figure it out by telling my which part is flickering.
let me know and ill try to figure something out if thats not working...

  • Screen flickering problem

Hey all. Recently, everytime I plug in or unplug a firewire cable (and as of today, USB cables), my screen flickers a bit. Sometimes it flickers for about a minute after the device is idle, then it's fine. It's a very faint flicker, it's as if the brightness is being randomly played with. Could something be loose on the logic board that I should begin to worry about? Please help!

    Hi Captain_zoobi1
Welcome to the HP Support Community! I see that your screen is flickering when you do a number of different actions. I will be happy to help you with that. Let me start by getting your product number so I know what we are working with. If you connected it to an external monitor does the flickering still happen?

  • Flickering between slides in Captivate 4

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble figuring out why my project flickers in between slides in Captivate 4.
    Some info on the project:
Each slide's transition on the properties menu is marked as "No transition". Most of the objects on the slide, especially those that appear at the very beginning, are set at "no transition"; others are set as "fade in only" and have at least .5 seconds to fade in.
At first, I had a floating image on each slide as a background image before I realized that I could set a background image. While I was playing around with this, I changed the background color to green just to test it out. It seems that the flicker between slides is whatever color that background color is set to. Black is the least noticeable, it seems...
Then, I set the background image for each slide, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Then, I merged objects, such as the title (same for each slide) and some other non-changing pieces (logo/branding) into the background, and this didn't make much of a difference either.
When I was playing around with the background images, etc., the flickering seemed to stop for a few slide-to-slide transitions, but these "successful" or seamless transitions don't seem to necessarily occur at the same places each time I pre/view them.
Also, I have Adobe Flash Player 9 software on my computer (probably from the Captivate 4 software or from the Adobe CS3 software). I'm aware that there's a new release (10.1), but I've only been able to download plugins for browsers (chrome and firefox, so far), but not the actual software .exe file. Not sure whether its really a FP issue, though, because I've tried opening the project's .swf file in both browsers and the FP 9 and the flickering still occurs in all.
I've seen some evidence of this flickering in other projects before. It may have been a few individual objects, such as a text box here or an image there, and I was somehow always able to fix it, though I never really knew what I did to fix it! The flicker usually just ended up going away! The previous problems were never as grand as they are now (being whole-slide flickers on EACH transition).
    Can anyone help me???
    It'd be MUCH APPRECIATED!!
    Thanks,
    Kate

    Macnimation,
Flash video can be a bit glitchy in Captivate--especially if the video includes the audio.
In answer to your autodetect concern, is your FLV set to "Pause slide till end of video"?
Then, just thinking out loud, how about a workaround for the audio overlap?  Create blank slide (whatever color you want) before the second video--set for 0.1 second or so and "Go to Next Slide".  Then navigate to that slide before going to the second video.  That might cut the sound off.  This might not be the best solution, but it might be the most expedient one. --Leslie

  • How to reinstall CS4 into my Mac Pro 13" (2013/2014)?

    Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
So I bought CS4 Design Premium some time back, my macbook (white non unibody) crashed on me in 2012/13.. sad I KNOW, a long with all my documents so I thought. Went to a computer guy, and he managed to recover all my programs etc, the problem I am currently facing is this...
    specs of my gear:
Mac Retina 13" Pro Mid 2014 (just checked)
    OS X Yosemite
Now when I dragged my programs into THIS NEW LAPTOP, there was no problem, from what it looked like (successful installation), BUT to my dismay a little box popped up and said the following:
To open "Adobe Illustrator CS4" you need to install the legacy SE 6 runtime.
click "more info..." to visit the legacy Java SE 6 Download website.
so clicked "more info.." and this popped up:
Java for OS X 2014-001 includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X. This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005.
Please quit any Java applications before installing this update.
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6133 for more details about this update.
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222 for information about the security content of this update.
Keep your software up to date. If you need Java, download the latest version of Java for OS X directly from Oracle https://www.java.com
I downloaded this... and STILL CS4 doesn't want to function.
wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and likes to be as hipster as me and use the old CS4 more than the current versions due to loss of old file features and editing capabilities
please lend a helping hand and lets bring this little guy back to life on my laptop. <3
    Thank you in advance,
    Chrissie

  • Flickering video with correct field order? help!

On the moment I've got a long term running problem.
I've got a uncompressed 8bit quicktime movie, saved using the sheer video codec with adobe's premiere pro on a machine running windows.
I convert this file to a m2v file so I can import it in DVDSP and burn it on a DVD. When viewed on a CRT (tv) monitor, all movement 'flickers' awkward. This seemed to me a clear case of wrong interlacing. After checking this didn't seem to be the problem, field choice was correctly set to 'bottomfield', the right choice for PAL interlaced video.
My second thought was this could be a windows-mac misinterpretation of some kind. Therefore I encoded the sheer uncompressed file another time to a uncompressed file using compressor, and then compressed it to a mpeg2 file. This didn't help; the video was still flickering on TV.
I thought, in this case, compressor somehow wasn't able to make it bottomfield, so I started trying all kinds of combinations and software to get the stuff lower field.
Two things helped. The first was to de-interlace the material in compressor, but this isn't the nicest option when your base-material is interlaced.
The second was to import the uncompressed sheer file into Adobe's After Effects (interpret as: lower field interlaced) and exporting it as uncompressed progressive; compressing this file to mpeg 2 (interlaced: lower field) using compressor solved the problem. hurrah!
    But then another problem arose..
When interpreting the material as lower field in AE, the titles at the end of the movie turned really ugly, like a mouse had bitten small bits out of them..
This didn't occur when the material is interpreted as progressive, but when this is rendered to a 8bit uncompressed quicktime file, and then compressed to mpeg2 using compressor the movement flickering turns up again on CRT monitors.
The (base)material is full of strokes when viewed in Quicktime and filmed using a Betacam SP camera PAL, so it can't be progressive.
Is there another explanation for the flickering except from wrong interlacing?
So yes, How do I solve this? (with compressor)
So no, How can it that the flickering still occurs even when I export on fields: lower with compressor?
I hope that someone can help me cause it's really eating my nerves now..
(ps I hope that I didn't make to much faults in my english..)

Vikram - I had carried out that process.
Srinivas - My problem is in the field of purchase order value where i am getting double the value 4000 in the place of 2000 in INR. As my client is INDIAN client he has a transaction in USD ones for which it is showing 250 in the place of 250 USD( no changes for this)  in SAP R/3 side when i check my data source 2LIS_02_SCL in RSA3.

  • Compaq Presario CQ5110F Monitor Flickers Intermittingly-Help?!?

    Hi,
We purchased this hp computer with the Compaq Presario CQ511 monitor.   We took it back to the Office Depot to load up a brand new 2009 driver for the monitor to fix the flickering.  The flickering still continues.  The flickering begins after the computer warms up. Windows Vista is the operating system on the computer.
What seems to be the problem?  Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance, Karen

Karen, be sure to move any electrical devices as far from the monitor as possible.  This can cause it to flicker.  Check the cables to assure that the connections are secure.  Set the "Refresh rate" to the highest setting available for the "Resolution" that you are using.

  • Pproheadless.exe has encountered an error and needs to close

    System Details
    Windows XP 32 Bit OS
    HPxw4600 Workstation
Intel 2 Core Duo , 3.00 GHZ processor
    4 GB Ram
    Premier Pro CS4 4.1.0
    All Updates Installed, English Version
218 GB HD, 37.8 GB Free, NTFS File System
When trying to encode large (15 min & Larger) timelines in AME, i receive the error pproheadless.exe has encountered and error needs to close.
The result being I cannot encode the file - I have tried this with 3 separate Premier Pro projects, with the same result.  Smaller timelines, under 15 min, dont seem to be affected. Initially, we had only 2 GB of RAm, and upgraded to 4 GB of Ram, but that did not help the situtation.
I have seen many posts on here about this issue, but didnt seem to see anything definitive.
    Advice?

I am not running cs5 yet - still cs4.  I'll wait this time for others to work out the bugs.  Let me clarify, on my desktop - windows XP, 32 bit, I have 3 internal hard drives.  I usually have the project on my "media" drive (drive 2) and then export out to my "export" drive (drive 3).  My os is on my C drive.  My laptop - hp dv7 has one large hard drive.  I usually have the project on the c drive in documents and use an external hard drive as the scratch disc (for all the assests).  Are these configurations "kosher"?
    Thanks,
    Lisa
P.S. I could not find the CS4 forum - I looked again, I found the forum for CS4, sorry.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro: Adobe Dynamic Link requires Adobe Production Premium?

    Hi all!
We upgraded for some while ago from CS4 to CS5, but forgot to remove CS4 in the thrill of exploring CS5. It's two computers with Master Collection, but the problem I'm going to tell you about is only occuring on one of the computers.
We uninstalled CS4 from Computer 1. And after the unistallation of CS4, Dynamic Link between Premiere Pro, After Effects and Encore won't work.
Computer 2 has still CS4 installed, and the Dynamic Link works on that workstation.
These computers are both Win 7 64 bit.
How do I fix this? The Dynamic was such a nice part of the worklow.
Any updates that were recently published or any fixes or workaround. Cause we have tried to unistall and reinstall and unistall and reinstall and even ran the Clean Tool a few times.
    Thanks for any help

    HII!
Unistalled everything, from CS5, to Adobe player to Flash and ran the cleanupscript some times and ran CCleaner on the registry. After 6 reboots, I installed CS5 again, downloaded all updates and now it works!
    Thanks for the help guys!

  • Video from DVD

    Hi there,
I have a project to do for a company and they want me to use some old footage and new footage to make a newer promo DVD. The old footage though, is on a DVD. Now, I think there is a way to grab it off of the DVD to use in my project, but I'm not sure how. Anyone know?

It does, if you have the CS4.1 update. If you do not, you will want to get it and insall it.
Now, again there is that caveat - 100% DVD-compliant DVD. If yours is not, then you have to go outside of Adobe to rip. If your DVD was created by some other authoring software, besides Adobe Encore, it may, or may not be 100% compliant. If it was created by a DVR, or VHS to DVD machine, it likely will not be. If it is not, you will likely have to rip.
Now, with some VOB's, one can just change the file extension to .MPEG and Import. Other .VOB's will yield problems. That article on .VOB's that I linked to above will help you with the "why's," should this not work.
Still, CS4.1 would be my first choice, unless it fails. Should it fail, it is not its fault, but the fault of whomever, or whatever, created that particular DVD.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • TS3232 I have the mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter firmware 1.03 and I still have screen flickering issues

I have the mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter firmware 1.03 and I still have massive screen flickering issues on a Mac Mini 2012.
I am using a Dell 30" monitor (it's the Samsung screen just rebranded) connected to a WD 4TB Thunderbolt drive connected to the Mac Mini.
The screen is usable for the most part when I've just started the computer (although today I started having issues after a fresh restart) but if even just the screen goes to sleep, or the computer goes to sleep and I wake it later, I start to have massive flickering to black and occasionally to snow.
The effect seems to be more likely to arise when I'm on heavy graphics-intensive websites or programs (eg, Tumblr feed with lots of GIF images or working in Adobe Premiere), but once it starts shutting down those programs has no effect, the screen keeps flickering wildly.
The problem improved after the 1.03 firmware upgrade (for a while it was flickering uncontrollably ALL the time and was virtually unusable) but it has not gone away.
Any suggestions would be very welcome, either for how to fix this issue or how to get Apple to, you know, let me TELL THEM that their adapter firmware fix has NOT solved the issue, since my phone support has expired. :/

I have a new Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter to allow my original Apple 30" Cinema Display to connect to the new Mac Pro.  Shipped straight from Apple, it is firmware version 1.03.  I've never had flickering issues, but the display will often go black (possibly after a screen power save) and not come back.  when this happens I am still able to connect to and use the Mac via remote connection.  But the only way to get the screen back is either to unplug the adapter and plug it back in to the Mac, or to shut down and power up the Mac.  This may be a separate issue, so I'll also post it standalone...
