"Flickering" Video after Export

I'm very new to Premiere, and I seem to be having some issues with exporting my video. It's hard to describe exactly what the problem is. The video plays fine, but periodically seems to "flicker" or "wiggle". I can't tell exactly what's happening, but it seems like some pixels get moved upward and some colors are changing. The video that I used as a source was made in CamStudio with the CamStudio Lossless Codec. Premiere wouldn't accept this, so I had to use a program called VirtualDub to convert it into something that Premiere would take.
I've tried a number of export settings (changing formats, frame rate, aspect, bitrate, field order), but none of them seem to fix the problem. They just seem to change the delay between flickers.
Most recently I've tried the following settings. These have gotten me the best so far (longest delay between flickers)...
1920x1080 (1.0), 59.94 fps, Progressive, VBR, 2 pass, Target 27.89 Mbps, Max 40.00 Mbps, AAC, 192 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo
According to Windows, the frame rate of the original video is 1000 frames/second, which is much higher than Premiere will let me go. Could this be part of the problem?
UPDATE:
Here's a video to show what I mean.

I talked with customer support. They suggested that the bug is a result of how I encoded the video in VirtualDub. I used Xvid MPEG-4 codec, and the representative suggested I use a format that is generally more compatible such as H.264 or QuickTime Animation (RLE).
I redid the the conversion with VirtualDub, this time using x264. Unfortunately, this simply introduced new issues when I tried to edit the video.
Interestingly enough, the issue shows up in the preview this time.
I don't know why there are still issues. I would try QuickTime Animation, but I don't know of any free software that would let me perform a conversion. Does anyone know why this happens? If not, does anyone know what software I could try to transcode the video?

  • Small black bars on the top and bottom on video after exporting?

I'm using 1280x720 video footage in Adobe Premiere. The problem is, whenever I export my finished project as 1280x720, the newly rendered file has small black bars on the top and bottom.
These black bars are not there in the Premiere preview, only after the project is rendered.
The video file created after export is still 1280x720(16:9).
Is there any way to get rid of these black bars, as they are quite irritating because I make youtube videos regularly.

  • Shaky Video after export

Hello. I've posted on this before, but havent quite found my answer.
I have video with some motion in it that looks shaky when I burn it to DVD. Someone suggested that I try adding the De-Interlace filter to correct it, but that doesnt seem to be it. I can watch the video from FCE on a TV going thru my camera and it looks fine (with or without the De-interlace filter). But when I export the video as a self contained movie, then pull it in to toast, and burn a DVD, the motion looks bad on the DVD. I also tried going thru iDVD, and there it looked even worse.
This problem is new to me. I've had video with motion before and didnt have this issue.
    Any ideas????
    Thanks!

I also read your earlier posts on this topic.
From your description I'd exclude de-interlacing and the field dominance problem: you detect these issues before burning if you Print to Video or playback through the firewire connection to a interlaced TV. And you did that.
So export might be the problem. Let me however suggest a test to check if the Export process from FCE or the burning process by Toast or iDVD is the issue.
After export you could try to open the exported .mov (with Export/QuickTime Movie !) using QT Pro, open the property window (cmd-J), select the video track, open the view settings (or something alike, I have the Italian version...) and check High Quality. Then in the main window if you go through the shaky part frame by frame (right arrow) you should see how each frame looks:
    - If a frame has a comb effect (due to the fact that its 2 fields have different timing) that's not necessarily bad: what you see is interlacing, that should be correctly handled by the playback device (whether through firewire from FCE or when recorded on DVD).
    - But if frames jump back and forth, then you might have a field dominance problem.
If interlacing or field dominance is a problem, however as I said above, you should see it also when you watch the movie connected to a TV.
To cross check, in FCE you can set the canvas window to 100% (no more e no less) and repeat the frame by frame test I suggest above in QT Pro: if the behaviour is the same the problem is in the use of Toast or iDVD, if they behave differently in FCE (better) and QT (worse), then Export is the culprit.
This doesn't solve your issue, but it might help in understand it.
I hope I did not confuse your ideas...
    Piero

  • Black video after exporting sequence in FCP7 - help please!

    hello,
So i'm not doing anything new - i've edited my clips as usual, settings are all as usual, but after i export the finished sequence and try to play it back, all i get is a black screen, with audio, for the entire duration of the sequence.
in the canvas it plays back fine, theres nothing to render, i've tried both with H.264 and Apple prores 422 HQ and nothing, i have tried to export as QT and also using QT conversion, checked the video settings there, all good, the video is rendered, also i checked the video processing in settings, used both render in RGB and render in 8 bit YUV, but no luck.
and i dont think it has to do with in and out points because the black video I get IS the duration of the audio, and the whole sequence for the matter.
The only thing I am wondering about is that I added some png files to make "gifs" over the video - I exported this same video BEFORE adding the pngs and everything was fine, but it is after adding these still images that the whole video goes black after exporting. But I have done similar projects before, with the same type of files, and I have never gotten this problem.
note; there are only a few of these still images scattered over the sequence, the majority of the video doesnt have these pngs over, but it is the whole of the video that goes black after exporting.
Can someone help me please, i dont know what else to give a go at and i cant find answers to my problem online!
    many thanks.

Could be your sequence is corrupt.  Create a new sequence with the same settings and copy everything from the old sequence to the new sequence.

  • IMovie problem - shaky video after exporting

I'm trying to make a DVD from some video I shot of a wedding. The movie looks great in iMovie 09, and I simply want to burn it to a disk. The problem is that some of the video clips in the movie become terribly shaky after I export it to iDVD or to QuickTime. I don't know how to stop this - I have the movie just the way I want it in iMovie, but it's practically worthless once I export it. The video is from a new Samsung HD camcorder, model HMX-H200. I think I shot the video in HD. I'm using iMovie 09 and iDVD version 7.0.4. Would appreciate any suggestions!

Nope -- you have your answer.
Sounds like you want to put data files (movies) onto a data holder and play it from there.
I like File - Export - Quicktime Conversion - Change Default to BROADBAND HIGH and hit the options button and change the SIZE to 480x270 if you want widescreen or leave it as is for 4:3.
Those should play fine on data media like a CD or a data dvd.
NOW -- if what you really want is your media saved on a DVD so you can play it on a set top DVD player (or any dvd player for that matter....) that's another story.
Is THAT what you want to do?
Else - pull the media you've saved on the DATA media and put it on your HD... will play fine from there.

  • Jumpy video after Exporting Quicktime Movie from PS CS4 Extended

I am trying to produce a short training video for work.  I created my entire movie in iMovie '09, and decided that it desperately needed some arrows and text to clarify some of the more technical aspects.  I exported it as a Quicktime file from iMovie and imported into Ps CS4 extended.
After I finished the editing, I chose to export my video, again as a Quicktime movie.
The export completed, and when I went to review my movie, it was extremely jumpy.  Watching the time line on the bottom of the Quicktime screen, I noticed that it was jumping in multiple second intervals.  The audio portion seemed normal, but the video kept freezing and scrambling.
I attempted re-exporting the video with the Quicktime settings of Animation, and Frames Per Second set at current.
    No difference.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong????

    Marian -
Thank you for your response.  I am only an amateur video editor, and up until now, I hadn't bumped up against the limitations of iMovie too often.  You are definitely correct, it would FAR easier to do these effects in FCE, FCPro, AE, Premiere, etc., except for one thing . . . I don't own any of those programs!    (I've already ordered a copy of Final Cut Express, but it stinks to have to spend $200 to get $7 worth of personal functionality.)
I do, however, own the extended Ps CS4.  And, to paraphrase the guy on Lynda.com, "You already have it, and you know how to use it . . . It should work for you . . ."
This is the information on the file, it was exported this way automatically by iMovie (They don't give you much control over these functions.)
Unfortunately, I trashed my output from PS as well as the .psd in a fit of rage!  It wouldn't take me more than 30 minutes to recreate it . . .
Would it be worth attempting to export it using H.264 instead of the animation Codec?

  • Distorted video after export

    Hello.
I have exported a video using AVCHD mp4 format. 25 fps. 1280x720 px. Aspect "Square Pixels(1.0) 1:1. Both tried CBR and VBR. With target bitrate 1.6 Mbps. See the attached pic for settings. And also see the distorted video problem I have. Can you please help me with correcting the export settings? Thanks.

The image of the lady shows interlace artifacting and that doesn't make sense since the export was progressive and that should deinterlace the footage. One thing to check, I see that Aspect Ratio is set to "Custom", this ought to be 16:9 so please try that. Also just noticed "TV Standard" is set to "NTSC", should be "PAL" for 25fps video.
Perhaps you should take a step back. What is the intended delivery format? There are a ton of H.264 presets and most of them willl yield good results. You have everything customized and that is likely the issue. I would start with a decent preset and see what that does before you change things around.

  • Lost video after exporting audio from mpeg-4

I have some mpeg-4 files of my band and wished to improve the audio. I chose the Export Audio option and yes, managed to create an audio only file but seem to have lost the video. Have I lost it permanently or is it still lurking somewhere? I suspect that I might have to reimport this particular file so having done this how would you recommend splitting the audio and video, editing the audio (I use Logic 9) and then putting them back together? Or is there another option?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You could do this in either iMovie or GarageBand.
I would open a new GarageBand Instrumental Project. Drag your TV show file into GarageBand. Then save the project to an audio only codec such as AAC or MP3.
In iMovie, you would use SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME and pick an audio only codec.

  • Why do I get these smear like pixelation glitches in my video after exporting?

This is what the glitch looks like. I am using Adobe Premiere CS3
I made a sequence using mp4 files recorded at 15 mbps, so they are high quality clips. I exported my finished video using H.264 (mp4) at 1080p and 12 mbps. I even tried using 2 pass as I thought the transitions i inserted along with the fast paced action of the game was causing smears. But even 2 pass didn't fix it.
    Any suggestions?

I use CS5 and it imports the MP4 files created by my wife's FLIP camera
But, since MP4 is only a wrapper, the important thing to know is the CODEC used by your "action of the game" capture software
What screen capture software are you using, and what is the codec inside the resulting files?
Just as examples, here are some previous discussions of screen capture editing

Whenever (well, not always, but usually) I select the "Match Sequence Settings" and export, which seems like the perfect thing to do, the resulting video file is very jerky. It is super noticable. What gives? Why does this happen? Why is exporting video such a terrible chore full of pitfalls and bugs and confusion?

  • Audio is not synced with video after Exporting QuickTime Movie

I have Canon DSLR footage shot 24p/1080p on the timeline. Timeline settings are the same as the Canon footage settings.
When I Export a QuickTime Movie, the audio is out of sync...
Can someone please help with this issue...
    Thanks,

Don't tell me...you edited the files the camera shoots without converting, right? The camera shoots H.264...FCP doesn't like to work with H.264. The problem is that it SEEMS like it will work, but really is rife with issues when trying to work with it. You have encountered one...loss of sync.
The proper workflow is to convert the footage first...
    #51 - Canon 5D MkII / Canon 7D footage into FCP
Shane's Stock Answer #51 - how do you bring in footage from the Canon 5D and 7D cameras into FCP to edit?
You need to convert all of the Canon 5D MkII footage from the H.264 format that it records, to ProRes 422 (ProRes HQ is unnecessary...no quality difference)  Yes, the file sizes get drastically larger.  H.264 is an acquisition and delivery format, not an editing one.
You can use the Canon EOS Log and Transfer plugin that works with the 1D, 5D and 7D cameras.  This plugin is great because it brings in the camera's TIME OF DAY as timecode, instead of starting each clip at 00:00:00:00 like Compressor or other conversion software will do.

Here is a tutorial on how to use it:
    http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/ssimmons/story/canon_releases_a_dslr_plug _in_for_final_cut_pros_log_and_transfer_tool/
And the workflow for tapeless ingest into FCP:
    http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1
But for a quick fix...change your SEQUENCE SETTINGS to ProRes...render, and then export.

  • Problem with video after exporting

Hey, I finished my project and exported it to a quicktime file and it looks really good and plays fine. My problem is that every time I try to put it on a CD, DVD or memory card it always plays fine for a few seconds then freezes as the audio keeps going. Then I can skip ahead and it will play a little more then freeze and glitch a lot.
I don't even know if this is final cut related, but does anyone know what the problem is?
I am exporting another version to try but it takes a while.
