Flickering Video

Video captured from camcorder looks fine. When scenes of large buildings are put in the Viewer and Browser (and Timeline) and then played, flickers appear on roofs of buildings, etc. Tried applying De-Interlace and Flicker Filters but nothing works. Have great video from Italy I am trying to edit, but the flickering is wrecking it! Help!

I tried recapturing, Jerry, but again got the "flickering" when I played the clip in Viewer and Canvas. Then another friend suggested I look at the clip on TV, instead of just computer. I was shocked to see the flicker diminished so as almost not noticeable! So now I know if I want to see what the video will really look like, view it through camera and on TV.

  • Flickering video in timeline and export from premiere

I called tech support, and they said on Friday (07.18.2014) that they would call me back monday, and then never heard back from them.
Anyway, I need to downgrade from Adobe CC2014 Premiere back to the previous version of Premiere, and I have to do it immediately. The upgrade from CC to CC2014 has resulted in flickering video in the timeline and the final render, I can't figure out what it is except to say that it didn't do it before I upgraded.
If anyone can tell me how to get back to a lower, more stable version, I'd appreciate it. I don't want to use a crack, and I am paying for the service - I need this issue to be addressed right away, or to get back to a stable version while I wait for them to make CC 2014 more stable. If my only choice is to use a crack, someone just say so, and when the upgrade becomes more stable, I'll go back to it.

So, I was never actually provided with a fix for this, just a workaround that doesn't really satisfy outside of getting a clean render. They had me change my sequence settings to 25 FPS (???), which I would never have thought to try on my own, since I don't shoot, edit, or output in that setting. That said, if I edit in a sequence that is 25 FPS, but export at the 23.976 that I shoot in, I get a clean render. This clean render, however, has only happened once, and I have no idea if it's going to be consistent. The reason that this works was never made completely clear to me.
That said, I'm sticking with Premiere CC for now, until Adobe can fix the software to work the way it's supposed to. I honestly don't expect this to be fixed, so it may be next year before I update. I also received bad advice from the person running the twitter account (they told me I could "save as" to get a file out of CC 2014 that would work in CC), and I lost about three days of work trying to get a flicker-less render (1.5 days on trying to fix it myself, and another almost 1.5 days total trying to get results out of tech support, who said they would call back on Monday, but never did).
No rant here, those are the facts. Buyer beware on upgrading...make sure to have a backup installer for a previous version if you feel like you want to try upgrading.
Lastly, the link posted by John Smith doesn't work for Premiere, although the link I posted in response to him, does.

  • Windows 7: Flickering Video

I'm assuming this is a video driver problem, but when playing simple games I'm guessing using a 3D Accelerator, the dynamic images flicker. Is this is driver issue? How can I fix this? Can I just download a straight brand new driver off Nvidia for Windows 7?

I have the Flickering Video with Windows also. Windows often does that. I've never found a fix.

  • Flickering video when daisy chaining firewire devices - HELP!

I have a 12" Powerbook with a single firewire 400 port, to which I have attached 2 daisy chained external hard drives. I have no problem capuring video off of my camcorder when I daisy chain it onto the end, but when the firewire is sending video the other way, as in the case of "printing" to tape, or using a television during editing, the audio clips and the video flickers substantially.
I've observed that connecting the camera directly to the computer eliminates this problem. Of course, it's a bit awkward, since I also eliminate my scratch disks (the external drives)! I've tried a firewire hub as well, and it seems that either the extra device or the doubled length of cable is interfering with the signal in such a way as to cause the flickering.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
In any case, I'm thinking about buying a MacBook Pro. Assuming I run into the same problem, I was thinking about adding firewire buses with the Express Card slot. Has anyone done this, or have recommendations for firewire cards that reliably work with MBPs?

When you say 'flickering' what do you mean?
If the playback is stuttering, meaning the data rate is not being sustained, then it is a Firewire glitch. If the video is strobing or rolling then it a video issue with the timeline or the capture settings or something else.
We daisy chained Firewire back in the day on the first edition Powerbook (400Mhz with 10GB internal) and had no issues, that was 4-5 years ago, so your PB12 should be fine with this.

  • Adobe Encore CS5.1 producing DVDs with flickering video

Hey all, new to the forums but been using Adobe software for a couple of years now.
I've got Encore CS5.1 as part of the Adobe Master Collection CS5.5, and recently I've been using it to burn DVD videos.
I made a video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 a few weeks ago and rendered it as an mp4 file in h.264 HDTV 24fps (video recorded with my Nikon D3200 D-SLR). I then imported the mp4 file into Encore as an asset (I didn't use Dynamic Link to insert the prproj file into Encore) and burned it onto a 4.7GB DVD (no menus or anything, just a simple DVD) and it looked absolutely fine on both my PC and on the TV and the recipient of the DVD was very happy with the result. The video was 28 minutes long and 6.2GB in size.
Recently I have been making more videos in Premiere Pro CS5.5 and attempting to burn them onto DVDs using Encore CS5.1, but I've not been having so much luck.
Whenever I create a DVD with Encore, the video playback is always a bit 'flickery' no matter how I import the video into Encore (have tried using both Dynamic Link and importing the mp4 file as an asset - both result in the same problem). The video playback results in flickering lines and it's really distracting. Again, I am rendering in mp4 h.264 HDTV 24fps and burning onto 4.7GB DVDs. If I watch the video in Encore on the Monitor, it also looks a bit flickery with lines showing. The video I am trying to burn onto a DVD is 25 minutes long and 4GB (but Encore transcodes it so it's just over 1GB in size I think).
I am also trying to burn another video onto a DVD which again is rendered in h.264 but is 48 minutes and 11GB in size (Encore transcodes it so it's about 2.5GB) and the same thing happens: flickery lines which is really distracting.
I did briefly have a trial version of CS6 installed and I rendered the video again in Premiere Pro CS6 and tried burning to a DVD using Encore CS6, but still got the same results. I don't have CS6 now, I installed it purely to see if CS5.5 was the problem.
I don't understand why the first video I burned to DVD using Encore was perfect and now it seems to be giving me flickery video once it's burned to a DVD whenever I use it.
I have updated it to version 5.1.0.342 which at the time of writing is the latesrt version of CS5.1.
If anybody out there could help me that would be great, thanks!

Still flickering on Encore even when rendered in MPEG-2 DVD in Pemiere Pro CS5.5. Looks perfect in Premiere Pro.
    Any other ideas?
EDIT: Was looking for Google for people with similar problems to me and I came across this http://forums.adobe.com/message/3959757?tstart=0
I am currently re-rendering the video in PAL DV Widescreen MPEG-2 DVD and using maximum render quality.

  • Flickering Video Final Cut Express

Hi! There is a fair amount of flickering when I do cross-fades manually (with superimpositions) on Final Cut Express (the version I have is at least a couple of years old), and I was wondering whether it was playback quality or whether it is something that won't go and if so can I fix it? Or are there better ways to do cross-fades? Thanks!

    Hi
For me to understand - I would like to know

  • "Flickering" Video after Export

I'm very new to Premiere, and I seem to be having some issues with exporting my video. It's hard to describe exactly what the problem is. The video plays fine, but periodically seems to "flicker" or "wiggle". I can't tell exactly what's happening, but it seems like some pixels get moved upward and some colors are changing. The video that I used as a source was made in CamStudio with the CamStudio Lossless Codec. Premiere wouldn't accept this, so I had to use a program called VirtualDub to convert it into something that Premiere would take.
I've tried a number of export settings (changing formats, frame rate, aspect, bitrate, field order), but none of them seem to fix the problem. They just seem to change the delay between flickers.
Most recently I've tried the following settings. These have gotten me the best so far (longest delay between flickers)...
1920x1080 (1.0), 59.94 fps, Progressive, VBR, 2 pass, Target 27.89 Mbps, Max 40.00 Mbps, AAC, 192 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo
According to Windows, the frame rate of the original video is 1000 frames/second, which is much higher than Premiere will let me go. Could this be part of the problem?
    UPDATE:
Here's a video to show what I mean.
Message was edited by: Andrew Tapia

I talked with customer support. They suggested that the bug is a result of how I encoded the video in VirtualDub. I used Xvid MPEG-4 codec, and the representative suggested I use a format that is generally more compatible such as H.264 or QuickTime Animation (RLE).
I redid the the conversion with VirtualDub, this time using x264. Unfortunately, this simply introduced new issues when I tried to edit the video.
Interestingly enough, the issue shows up in the preview this time.
I don't know why there are still issues. I would try QuickTime Animation, but I don't know of any free software that would let me perform a conversion. Does anyone know why this happens? If not, does anyone know what software I could try to transcode the video?

  • Flickering video with correct field order? help!

On the moment I've got a long term running problem.
I've got a uncompressed 8bit quicktime movie, saved using the sheer video codec with adobe's premiere pro on a machine running windows.
I convert this file to a m2v file so I can import it in DVDSP and burn it on a DVD. When viewed on a CRT (tv) monitor, all movement 'flickers' awkward. This seemed to me a clear case of wrong interlacing. After checking this didn't seem to be the problem, field choice was correctly set to 'bottomfield', the right choice for PAL interlaced video.
My second thought was this could be a windows-mac misinterpretation of some kind. Therefore I encoded the sheer uncompressed file another time to a uncompressed file using compressor, and then compressed it to a mpeg2 file. This didn't help; the video was still flickering on TV.
I thought, in this case, compressor somehow wasn't able to make it bottomfield, so I started trying all kinds of combinations and software to get the stuff lower field.
Two things helped. The first was to de-interlace the material in compressor, but this isn't the nicest option when your base-material is interlaced.
The second was to import the uncompressed sheer file into Adobe's After Effects (interpret as: lower field interlaced) and exporting it as uncompressed progressive; compressing this file to mpeg 2 (interlaced: lower field) using compressor solved the problem. hurrah!
    But then another problem arose..
When interpreting the material as lower field in AE, the titles at the end of the movie turned really ugly, like a mouse had bitten small bits out of them..
This didn't occur when the material is interpreted as progressive, but when this is rendered to a 8bit uncompressed quicktime file, and then compressed to mpeg2 using compressor the movement flickering turns up again on CRT monitors.
The (base)material is full of strokes when viewed in Quicktime and filmed using a Betacam SP camera PAL, so it can't be progressive.
Is there another explanation for the flickering except from wrong interlacing?
So yes, How do I solve this? (with compressor)
So no, How can it that the flickering still occurs even when I export on fields: lower with compressor?
I hope that someone can help me cause it's really eating my nerves now..
(ps I hope that I didn't make to much faults in my english..)

Vikram - I had carried out that process.
Srinivas - My problem is in the field of purchase order value where i am getting double the value 4000 in the place of 2000 in INR. • Flickering video clip

I try to play video clips (youtube) and it flickers and cant watch it,yet dvds play ok?

Please do not put the text of your entire question in the subject filed. A simple, concise, tersely condensed version will be more than sufficient. For instance, this might have been something like, "Still frame jitters."

  • PB Al 15 exhibits flickering video

Sometimes the image on the LCD will flicker. Sometimes I'll get double vision on that LCD. Gently rapping on the LCD rarely changes the LCD behavior.
I also plugged in external video - DVI-to-VGA adapter to a VGA monitor. I didn't see an image on the external monitor. It flickered between image and dark image. The laptop then shuts down, but OS X did ask if I wanted to shut it down before doing so.
I replicated the condition - with just the DVI-to-VGA adapter (no monitor plugged into the external DVI port).
Is my logic board unusable due to bad video?
Could my LCD/video cable still be usable?
    Thanks for reading!

Yu might want to run the Apple hardware test to see if it identifies a hardware problem. If you have one of the TechTool programs they can do the same testing. Find the original OS X discs that came with your system, and insert the one that says 'AHT version x.x' in small print on the label. Reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow to the right, and follow directions. Choose the extended test. Does that identify anything?

  • Flickering video when iusing keyframes!

    Hi,
I have been struggling with this for a couple of days now and its time to ask some advice!
The problem I am having is that I am getting flickering in an animation I have created. The animation works perfectly and the videos within the animation play smoothly with no problems at all. The only time I get this flickering effect is when I scale the videos to 100% from 20% over 30 frames using keyframes, as the video is getting larger the video flickers as if the fields were wrong.
Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks Chris
P.S. Just for you info I am working in PAL 16/9, 25 frames a second, even field first.
I save the motion project then open it in FCP, export from FCP as uncompressed 8 bit PAL, then compress this file with compressor to best quality 90mins, then burn onto a DVD with DVD Studio Pro.
    Thanks again

    Hi,
I have done a lot of searches on this and I am quite sure PAL is lower first (Even), check halfway down this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26010?viewlocale=en_US
I have however tried your other suggestions, but they make the video flicker all the way through, not just when it is scaling.
    Thanks for your input though
    Chris

  • Flickering video with Warp stabilizer

    Hi all,
I have a problem what more of you maybe have seen the past month, the flickering with warp stabilizer.
Now i already changed the renderer setting in project settings into Mercury Playback Engine to Software Only, but this didn't solve the problem.
    My specs:
Macbookpro 15 inch retina end 2013,
    2,3 ghz i7
    16 gb ram
    nvidia GT750M 2gb
    OSX 10.9.5
Will update to Yosemite solve it or not?

    Hi Dave
I solved my problem with the next 2 things:
    - changed the renderer setting in project settings into "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only
    - changed the renderer setting in media encoder into "Mercury playback engine software only
Hope this will solve your problem to.

  • Interlaced DV PAL flickering preview time remapping video in AP CS5

Be faced with this problem, i was really surprised. I was working with HD 50p video and had no problem with slow motion. But yesterday i captured some old DV footage 25i and used time remapping to slow it. I saw surprisingly ugly flickering video in preview window!
I exported it into file and it was perfectly OK, i made output to TV though IEEE1394 adaptor - smooth nice slow motion.
But i cannot see this smoothness in preview window.
Before i used CS3 Premiere, and there was no such problem.
    Finally, help me

Why are you talking about quality ? Everything is pretty fine, except of one case -> preview window in Adobe Premiere CS5 and time remapping effect of DV PAL in it. It's flickering.
I have read about this problem in some videoediting forums to... so i'm not alone.
But you confirm that it is not Adobe Premiere internal problem ?
by the way, what is OE ?

  • Quicktime Movies - The audio plays but the video is completely messed up

    Hi.
I have QuickTime V7.2 and my OS is XP.
All of a sudden QuickTime started playing back QuickTime movies with no video - there is just a lot of flickering green and purple - however the audio is there. Oddly, the files used to play fine. They were made on my PC as QuickTime movie files. The sound is there. (Additionally the files play ok in Realplayer.)
I've searched techy support but can't find an answer. Any ideas what is wrong?
I made the files on movie editing software called ULead, and as I said, they used to play fine.
    Thanks very much.
    Gary

A very similar and, I suspect, related problem. I created .mov files on my Mac, they play fine on the Mac, the audio plays but flickering video on my PC. I suspect it has something to do with the codecs used. Anyone have an idea as to how to make them compatible?

    READ: http://insanecoding.blogspot.com/2007/0 … linux.html
I've only discovered this because of an ALSA bug was making my life miserable.  That article was written about a month or two before OSS4 (Open Sound System v4) was released under GPL and CDDL. This past January, it was released under BSD as well. Unfortunately for the developer, he does not understand open source very well. He is now reporting that his revenue went significantly down..
OSS4 does not equal to the crap OSS in Linux 2.4 kernels. Even OSS3 != OSS3 in former linux kernels. He was neglecting the open source version in favour of the commercial one. Instead of improving it, someone forked it. And, the fork became popular. Unfortunately, the original author had no interest in working on the fork. So, he only focused on the commercial version.  Now, many years later, the commercial version is fully open source. There is no more commercial version.
I've tried it,  and I really like it. Music sounds much better than on ALSA. For example, screaming in alternative rock is more legible.  It's like enabling "enhance voice" in a phone. It supports higher PCM values without noise.
The mixer (vmix) is capable of 18 channels. It can also do per application volume control (like PulseAudio).
It totally makes sense that OSS gets back into the kernel because it works on almost every UNIX and UNIX-like system (except OS X). ALSA only works on Linux, and according to that article, developers still prefer the OSS API, even on ALSA. However, the ALSA OSS API is lacking according to an ALSA developer. I can confirm that the comment on the ALSA OSS Emulation API working better than the ALSA API. XMMS with ALSA enabled freezes my system. XMMS with OSS enabled on ALSA does not.
It worked without any configuration besides muting some channels to kill the noise.
    THE BAD
ossmix and ossxmix are totally unusable because they do not name the channels properly. ossxmix uses 100% CPU if Compiz is enabled. Version 4.1 will fix this.
I had to figure out WTF ossxmix.codec1.connector.jack14.jack 54:54 means. Sane names need to be added to the jacks such as "mater, front, input, auxiliary, microphone, etc.."
It's best to use ossxmix (GTK+ mixer) and playing with all the jacks to figure out what each one does.
One interesting control is how OSS4 should behave (Fast, Medium High, Professional, etc.). It's probably a latency control.  ossxmix is a demo app on how you can control the mixer from GTK. It needs to be made usable.
If you use Media Player Daemon, VLC, and MPlayer, OSS4 works beautifully. They use OSS directly. Others have problems.
Totem does not play sound. Totem-Xine uses 100% CPU (Xine-UI works with low CPU usage).
In terminal I noticed some output from oss mixer control saying it received bad arguments. OSS4 is backwards compatible with OSS3, but xine-lib may be using the API badly.
The progress bar (seeker) in GStreamer based applications (Rhythmbox, Banshee) does not work if you use vmix, or it may work, but it will be unsure of the length of a song. You will see it constantly adjusting a few seconds up or down. By the middle of the song, the length reporting generally stabilises. You have to enable softoss (the old mixer). vmix and Gstreamer behave very badly. The Gstreamer developer responsible for OSS claims that it does on his system. Though, he is most likely using the trunk version.
You have to apply this patched gstreamer to make volume control in GNOME work.
While the progress bar problem is fixed with softoss, volume control does not work, even with the patched GStreamer. It only works with vmix.  System > Preferences > Sound lists nothing under "Default Mixer Tracks".
Sound does not work in KDE4 at all. While Phonon is based on Xine, which has OSS support, it queries HAL, which does not support OSS4 yet. Therefore, it thinks that there is no sound card.
As for KDE 3.5.9. Amarok works, Noatun works, and anything based on MPlayer should work. KMIX does not work. Same in KDE4.

The Arch Linux wiki has a good article. Read it.
A Ubuntu user has published an install guide as well.
Check Configuring Applications for OSSv4 after you install it.
Overall, I think it's a million times better than ALSA. It's cross platform, and it's stable. It was released a year ago on 15th of March 2007. Since he does not have a marketing department, no one has heard of it.

Hmm, so it's a choice - have to enable effects and use an older mixer, or put up with a 'stuck' progress bar... Well, as I said, I use MOC, and I'm happy with my mixer setup so far, so I'll stick to what I've got.
I can't believe I finally have my headphones working, or external speakers, should I so wish - and what with the ATI divers *finally* providing tear-free video, it's like it's my birthday
Since you mentioned ATI and went offtopic, can you pastebin your ATI xorg? It works fine for me, but If I enable compiz, i get flickering video and slow scrolling. So, I'm stuck with the open source driver, which uses a lot more CPU when I play video.
I can also confirm what the article said about the ALSA OSS emulation. It does work better than ALSA with the ALSA API. xmms with ALSA enabled freezes my sytem. xmms with OSS enabled running ALSA does not. I'm tired of this bollocks. We have to mount a campaign to get OSS back into the kernel.
Anyway, this is my OSS output.
