Flicking colors !!

Hello,
I have a concern that takes my mind for several days I made a 3D animation in 3DSMax, I recorded in sequence TGA. So imported into After Effects for post-production, and there, horror, watching the footage, I see that the colors "flash" in places. By viewing the footage frame by frame, I found that there is a slight difference in shades of green color (image 1 of 3) that give this flashy aspect in my animation. Is there a way to even out the color images so that they all have the same tone and thus eliminate this rotten clignotage?

The first thing to do is figure out if it's a problem that AE is having decoding the image sequence. Here's the questions I would ask:
Are you checking the sequence with the comp or footage window at 100% and full resolution? Do you have Open GL enabled for preview? What happens if you look at 2 of the images that have different colors in AE in Photoshop? How does the image sequence look in Premiere Pro? Are you on a Mac or a PC. On a Mac, what happens if you open the image sequence in QT? I don't remember if Windows Media will playback image sequences, but have you checked there?
If the color values match in Photoshop, or the movie looks fine in other apps then it's probably open GL in AE so turn it off. Trying to fix a display or decoing issue with a plug-in is not going to work at all.
If the color values are off between frames then it was a rendering issue from 3DS Max and Color stabilizer may help a bit but you should probably re render.

  • Time-lapse flicker unchanged after Color Stabilizer

    I shot a sequence of still photos of a cluster of roses blooming in front of a blue screen for creating a time-lapse clip, my first time to try that.  I have an NTSC-sized comp that fills the frame nicely with just one of the roses.  As expected, there is flicker due to imprecision in the camera's aperture, and the rumor is that AE's Color Stabilizer effect should fix that.  I have Keylight to key out the blue, and also TimeWarp to speed it up because the rose took longer than I thought to open (although that's optional, as I can just make the clip at its original length and speed it up in PPro when I combine it with backgrounds), but I made sure to put the Color Stabilizer below those other effects in the timeline - that should mean it is applied first, right?  The Color Stabilizer in is "Brightness" mode, and because the rose's petals move, I put the "Black Point" on the blue screen.  But it still flickers - it doesn't look like there is any improvement over not using the effect at all.  Am I doing something wrong?  Naturally, if the Color Stabilizer was being applied after Keylight, it wouldn't work because the background would already be erased, but I think it should be applying it first.  If I have to put the Black Point on some part of the rose, I will have to chase it with a bunch of keyframes, and it may still not work right.  Recommendations?
    I wish there was an effect that would simply look at the whole frame's brightness and smooth each frame to a running average of several frames in a row, but as far as I know, such an effect doesn't exist.
    Additional info: AE CS4 on Windows XP. The photos were for 1 second each @ f-8 with a Canon Powershot S3-IS, if that matters.

    If the lighting and background are constant, there's nothing for Color
    Stabilizer to do, you should not have needed it at all.
    That would be true if I was shooting with my video camera (which I have done for many a sunrise or other less-than-one-hour time-lapses.  But the problem is that most still cameras do not keep their aperture set while waiting between shots, and even in manual shooting mode with a specific f-stop, there will be slight variations.  The flicker isn't caused by my subject matter, but by my camera.
    In my case, I'm actually pretty pleased that my camera did as well as it did, considering that it's not an SLR.  The flicker is not nearly as bad as some examples I have seen on the web.  For your benefit, I made two half-resolution Quicktime file of the same 4 seconds of the middle of the sequence - this one has no effects at all, and this one has not just one but two effects added that are rumored to be helpful in reducing flicker: Color Stabilizer in "brightness" mode with the "black point" on the background, and Auto Levels with a Temporal Smoothing setting of 1 second.  (Even at half-resolution and only four seconds, the files are still over 14MB each, because they contain the full frame rate of 29.97 fps, so be patient with the download.)  To my naked eye, I can't see much difference.

    processed the individual stills in a batch in Photoshop first, leveling
    all variables.
    How does one do that?  I do have Photoshop (CS2),  but I'm not much of a Photoshop expert and have no idea how to get it  to compare levels between even two files, much less do such comparison  in an batch fashion between thousands of files.
    Thanks for the link.  I didn't see anything directly relevent at first glance (deflicker discussions center around using VirtualDub on a progressive video file, but my source is 3000 still photos, my destination is interlaced DV-encoded video, and I don't really want to process and resave it multiple times if I can avoid it).  But when I have more time, I'm sure I could learn lots about time-lapse in general by reading the forum threads.

  • Monitor sudden change in color/print quality and flicker

    I have an HP Pavilion a6112n desktop computer with Windows Vista Home Premium connected by VGA? (blue) cable to a Dell ST2220 monitor.  Everything was fine when all of a sudden my monitor became difficult to read and there's a flicker on the screen, particularly when looking at the desktop or the opening start box.  I can read most of the black print, but other print got very thin and faded.  You can't even see the outline of search boxes, and the address box at the top shows some readable print like "hp.com" but the rest of the address is very very pale gray.  My desktop background photo got washed out and also looks yellowish.
    I thought it was my monitor, but I took the monitor to the office today and connected it to my office computer.  Came on fine - no flicker and colors are great.  Now I have no idea what to do next.  Would appreciate any help.  Thanks.  (Not a computer expert!)

    Since you were not able to restore the resolution to your desktop's display, I recommend trying a different cord, as well as a different monitor to your HP desktop.
    If the issue continues, I suggest returning your system back to a restore point when the display was not fuzzy and flickering. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows Vista).
    Should the display remain unchanged, I recommend performing a backup and recovery of your desktop's operating system. To do this, please follow this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows Vista), as well as Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows Vista). This should return your system back to factory defaults.

  • Black color of images replaced by 'flicking blue'

    Hi there,
    More problems with the screen of a Macbook 13". It's just 8 months old and is my first issue. Since last weekend I'm getting problems with the darkest areas of the images displayed. In fact is almost a range near black which changes to a sort of 'electric blue' instead. Other colors are slightly changed too, but this is the most clear problem.     In the picture, these blue areas should be seen as black. It also flicks a bit.
    Any guess? It happened without having done anything to cause it (no software update, not being hit, etc.). For me seems like a problem with the graphic card.

    I have the similar problem, but flicker pixels only on center of the screen.
    Can you connect your macbook to external display? If there is no blue areas, may be it is problem with matrix.
    Or can you replace RAM modules with other? Macbook use part of ram as video memory.

    On startup you could put it in Safe Mode. Is the issue still visible? Have you tried to connect the Notebook to an external monitor. Here is a link to connect an external monitor to check the LED issue.  Can you do a diagnostic hardware test?

  • Display seems like 16 bit color with slight flicker

    When I turned my iMac on today, it's like the display color spectrum is on 16 bit color and it has a flicker to it.
    This happed all of the sudden.
    It's less than a year old.
    21" iMac
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400
    VRAM 256MB
    Any ideas?

    16bit colour is the default maximum colour depth for RDP connections to a windows terminal server. You can increase this by editing the local group policy object on the windows machine.
    Go to start->run and type gpedit.msc
    Browse to Computer Configuration/Administrative Template/Windows Components/Terminal Services and edit the "Limit Maximum colour depth properties" key. Set it to enabled and select 24 bit. Click OK close group policy editor. You should now be able to get 24bit colour over RDP connections.

  • Color flicker? Florescent lights? Viewer to Canvas problem?

    Hello everyone,
    I shot on a Sony HZ5u,
    in Smooth Slow Record,
    HDV1080i, 60i
    inside a semi truck bay under fluorescent lighting (I think).
    In both the Viewer and Canvas there is a frame to frame shift in White Balance hue
    from cyan to magenta.
    The issue does not occur outside the bay, so I'm guessing it's due to lighting.
    Now my problem is that the visibility of this is more noticeable in the Canvas
    where there is an extreme flicker. It hurts my eyes. It is very rapid.
    *Is there a reason why it gets worse in the canvas? How can I fix this?
    It is not my monitors, I moved both windows over to each monitor and it's consistent.
    And for anyone who knows, why does this camera, and other cameras, react so drastically to normal fluorescent lighting?
    I have had earlier issues where the color did not flicker but rolled, like a tv static roll, slowly and constantly.

    No it's the other way around.
    If you shot at 60i/30fps with today's cameras you may not have a problem, even with the old magnetic ballasts with a florescent bulb you're really not at odds with the AC cycle at 30fps. It's when you shot slo-mo and change the frame rate to something that's not divisible into 60Hz that you get in trouble.
    Of course all that changes if the the AC current isn't stable.
    There are little tricks like not using auto white balance, and using proper shutter speeds. I'm not much of a shooter, I've just come across the problem before and understand the cause. I produced a film shoot in a newsroom once where we had to re-light the whole room and bag the florescent lights.
    We ran tests, it's smart to run tests. If you shoot in that place again I would bring in your own lights.

  • ACD 20" Color Flicker

    Hi,
    Twice today the ACD 20” hooked up (via a Apple DVI to ADC Display Adapter) to a MBP 17“ 2.33GHz, started to flicker, deep red/ purple, back to normal, then a few moments later the same thing.
    I turned everything off, unplugged all connections then plugged everything back in again and so far (I’m still holding my breath) everything appears to be OK, but what does this flickering mean?
    Is it possible to apply some individual test to either the graphic card or the ACD so that I have some clue if this is the beginning of the end for this LCD?

  • X300 partial screen flicker and solid colored lines

    Hello all.  Just opened my X300 tonight to find the lower-left quadrant of the screen flickering and some colored lines in the upper left-quadrant.  The right half of the screen is viewable but pixelated.  Anyone know if this is fixable?  Loose cables, inverter?

  • font color="2200cc" Apple USB Power Supply and Display Flicker /font

    When charging my iPod touch using my Apple iPod Mains/USB charger the screen flickers gently throughout the charge. I've tried this on two entirely seperate power supplies (one in Wiltshire, one in Gloucestershire) and both are the same. I don't have immediate access to a different Mains/USB charger to try that though. 
    There is never any flickering when charging via my iMac and never noticed any issues charging our Nanos on the Apple Mains/USB charger.
    Has anyone else noticed this or am I alone?

    I'm living in the US and have the exact same issue. Regardless of the power source and cable (I charge through iMac G5, Macbook, and car charger with three different cables), the same problem is observed. flickering is evident when Safari is loading page when brightness is at the lowest with or without being connected via cable.
    However, I sometimes can't replicate the problem when not on cable. I'm trying to find what's causing it but not clear at this point. I talked to Apple support but the guy on the phone couldn't figure out what's causing it and recommended me to go to see genius.
    I hope this is a software issue rather than hardware.

  • Radeon 9600TX + Xorg 1.6.1.901: Disturbing Flicker

    Hi! I try to setup a Radeon 9600 TX (R300 Chip) with Xorg 1.6.1.901 and xf86-video-ati. I want to use 2D + 3D acceleration. This is a new system setup using XFCE. (I intend to add compiz later.)
    Acceleration for 3D is present + ok. Window resizing is rather choppy but acceptable. But I see a disturbing flicker when logged into X, as if waves were running down the screen horizontally. This is very inconvenient and hurts the eyes after a short time. Also the font in the VCs is not displayed in sharp edges but I do not know if this is interrelated (or erroneous).
    I would like to keep the xorg.conf minimal. Since the DDC/EDID data that shows up in the log is correct, I did not add any ModeLines or mode setup. The log shows that xorg makes all decisions right (how it seems to me).
    There are loads of posts about ati issues but I did not find anything that helped me solving my problem. Perhaps someone can help? Thanks in advance.

    First I tried to force the monitor into 1280x1024@75 mode which does not show the flicker. In three horizontal areas in the screen, the display was very fuzzy. So I had to decide whether use 60Hz mode with the flicker problem or use 75 Hz mode with the fuzzyness problem.
    I tried the first alternative by ignoring the EDID data and force the display mode but I didn't succeed with solving the fuzzyness problem. So I decided to go back to 60 Hz mode and try to solve the flicker problem. (I already tried 'Option "Flicker"  "false" - no effect!) I have no more ideas.

  • I'm having a problem in FCP7 with all video transitions. Every transition has a rolling flicker throughout the effect. What is causing this?

    I recently upgraded to FCP7 from FCP6. I am now having an issue in playback with all video transitions. When I add a transition to my video it does not consistently play smoothly. I now appears to have an old "film" like flicker rolling through the effect. Our video was shot on a dslr and brought into FCP with compressor as a prores 422 file. We use magic bullet for our coloring effects which are in place on this video. When I was working on the project in FCP6 I did not have this problem. When the project was complete we upgraded to FCP7. The client has now come back to us wanting additional footage. So I opened the old project up into FCP7 and checked yes to all format updates to meet with FCP7 guidelines. So far this is the only problem I've encountered. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    For me it looks like conflict with field order (upper, lower - interlaced).
    Please, check Your sequence settings, maybe it should be set to "field order NONE" if Your source is progressive.
    Next thing You could check:
    in Your timeline with bad transitions look into "Effecs tab" - maybe FCP 7 added "shift field filter +/-1" after opening FCP 6 project.
    In general - try to keep sequence settings same as source settings.

  • Export video with Lumetri effects - 2 to 3 videos render fine, after that flickering, colored frames

    After I spent 45 minutes waiting to be transferred to to right department with the support chat, only to find out technical support isn't available during the hours I called, I am going to try this outlet to get some advice:
    I have about 50 video files to export, each 20 seconds to 2 minutes long. They all have Lumetri effects on them (I suppose that's what causes the problem).
    I can render 2, maybe 3 videos without problems. The next one might be fine for a while, but then all I get is strobelight frames, flickering, and different color frames. One time I even received a blue screen of death. I restart Media Encoder, add files to the queue, same thing happens. 2 - 3 will work, after that it exports garbage.
    I am using Premiere Pro CC to edit the video, Media Encoder CC to export it.
    The original footage is HDV 50i - 1440 px by 1080px - 1.333 pixelr ratio.
    Besides some dip to black and cross transitions the only other effect is a title layer with some static color effects on it, and 2 Lumetri effects (warm midtones and dream 1).
    I thought at first maybe it is because I encode in FLV, 1800 mbps, but also when I used uncomressed AVI with the same settings as the original footage the same problem occured.
    I have two ATI radeon HD 6950s 1GB in my pc hooked together with cross fire, 16GB ram, the project file is on a SSD, the raw footage on a HDD. AMD Phenom II x4 processor with 3.4 GHz.
    OS: Windows 7 64bit.
    I did update to the latest GPU driver last night - that didnt fix the problem.
    Since I noticed the fans becoming quite loud during rendering, I did put two Ice packs from the freezer on top of the case and pulled it away from the wall a little bit to allow for better cooling (and it did stay a lot cooler with the ice packs).
    I do also get funky looking frames inside Adobe Premiere after trying to watch the footage with the Lumetri filter for a while. I'll have to restart the program and it'll work fine.
    Any suggestions what I could do? Settings, or something? I dont want to attend to my machiene for so many hours, importing 2 video files at a time, having to review each of them for errors. I'd rather set it up once, and let them all render...

    I use two Lumetri effects:
    Warm Midtones
    Dream 1
    Both applied directly to the clip of raw footage which is in the sequence that gets exported. There is actually one sequence, where I fixed some of the footage putting it into another sequence first, then the sequence into the final sequence that gets exported.
    All my clips have both Lumetri effects applied to them. The flickering took place randomly, but it would definitely get worse the more I attempted to render (the first 2 to 3 no problems, on the 3rd or 4th maybe a few flicker seconds in the middle, any more would be 100% flickering - if any flickering or only like a green solid...)
    Now Shrishti from tech support insisted the problem was within the sequence. And that kind of made sense, because once we successfully rendered one sequence, there would be no more trouble rendering it a second time, even if the program was already in flicker mode. And also for some reason while we were playing around with it when one sequence failed, even after restarting Media Encoder, it would fail again afterwards.
    However last night after it failed I would just try again, doing 2 at a time and it would be successful.
    Now I say it failed, but of course no errors no nothing... Just as in the result didn't look the way it was supposed to.
    Also I want to mention that especially when I kept it running after it failed (meaning you leave it runnning, producing only garbage) the fans of my computer kept running louder and louder. Not sure if it was the GPU or CPU. Rigth now it keeps rendering in Software mode and the fans are barely louder than under normal usage.
    I use the AMD catalyst driver which I downloaded from here:

    While Shrishti was trying a couple of different settings at one time the screen went dark, as it came back on there was a message coming from the windows tray, saying the display driver had crashed, but recovered. One time I also received a bluescreen message, which I will try to attach to this post.

    This happened I believe after the first attempt with the updated driver (I updated from 13.3 to 13.4 )

  • HT4623 I have an older IPAD and it is no longer allowing me to see general settings, it flicks out of programs and goes back to the main screen.  Is it time to throw it away?

    My iPad is going back to the main screen with many of my applications.  I have several desk tops, laptop and a Nook Color and none of them have any problems, so it is not my internet.  Any idea how to fix the iPad or should I just toss it?

  • Mac mini (late 2014) display Flicking/goes Off and On

    Hi everyone!
    Well.. i can say that, this is my first Mac computer and i already have problems. I have read a lots of comments and i have seen that many people experienced this problem with Mac mini, like display corruption, not property colors, flicking, display goes off and back on... or just standing on sleep and not turning on. (like Mac mini 2012 or 2011.. i have read about same issue..) so whats really happen?
    So, from the peoples comments i tried possible solutions:
    SMC Reset
    I have Reinstalled the OS X Yosemite (complete HDD format)
    I have changed the cable
    (Nothing works)
    Some detail about my connection:
    I have Mac mini (late 2014) i5 2,6GHz dual-core, 8GB ram, Iris Graphics (Intel), 1TB HDD
    I have connect it via miniDP to DP > to > Dell UltraSharp U2713HM
    My following issue:
    -Screen goes Off and On without reason (mostly happens when i connect my iPhone i have noticed, or maybe just impression..)
    -Screen goes to Sleep without reason while i'm on computer (this normally happens after a few off and on screen flickers)
    -Image corruption/distortion (after this display goes off and on, or just remaining on sleep.. like not detected
    I hope someone can help me with this problem, i just bought it one week ago and i don't know what should i do, because as well i have read that even i'll change it, it can have the same problem.

    Update: I'm coming back with a possible tip for fixing this issue (I hope Apple Stuff will notice this.)
    So, how i said in the previews message.. the Image corruption / and going Off and On the display happens mostly when i'm connecting the iPhone. Theory tested a few times, and take a guess.. it's true.
    When i'm connecting the iPhone, the monitor goes crazy.. for some seconds, turning off and on.. and sometimes Image corruption, then coming back like nothing happened. Because i found out this, i was making more tests with the iPhone.
    First, erasing the disk and reinstall the OS X again. Everything worked perfectly, until i was connecting the iPhone. I got directly Image corruption and Screen goes Off and On a several times. After this is happening, and you'll unplug the iPhone and put it again, you may not receive again Image corruption or Screen to go Off and On, but after a restart when you'll connect it again, you will receive almost everytime.
    So.. after this, i was testing further. I have Paired my iPhone with iMessage and FaceTime, to see if can be a possible issue there also. True again!
    Receiving messages from iPhone to Mac / Sometimes display goes Off and On
    Receiving a Call via FaceTime to Mac (from your iPhone carrier) / Image corruption / Screen Off and On
    After a day of test, i have realise where is the problem. "iPhone connection/Mac"
    So, the cable it's good (connection miniDP to DP), by Surfing and by running other Apps i have no problem (at least until now), the only problem what cause the Image corruption and Screen Off/On for several times, it is only because of the connection with the iPhone.
    I hope is someone there from Apple Stuff that will take this as notice to solve this problem. Because it is 99% software problem, and i hope it will appear soon enough an Update/Fix.
