Flickr slideshow alternatives

Hello again. I need to make a web photo gallery and I
recently found out that you can do it though flickr. The problem
I'm having is that flickr won't show your pictures unless they're
actually photos (no CG images, drawings etc...).
The flickr slideshow is almost exactly what I'm looking for;
you can see an example
here.
Is there any other web photo galleries or slideshows that you could
recommend that works the same way as flickr? I'd like something
that will allow me add more photos easily without having to change
any html, css, php.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Flickr slideshow keeps reloading the same photo repeatedly.

When viewing a Flickr slideshow I pause the slideshow. After a few seconds, the little progress bar appears in the center of the photo, then the screen momentarily turns black, then the photo reappears. This repeats again and again. Very annoying. I'm running the latest version of Flash Player (11.5.502.169 for my Windows 7 64 system with both IE and Firefox. I've seen other with this same problem over in the Flicker forums too.

This sounds like it might be an issue with the Flickr slide show code. Have you tried contacting them to see what they have to say? You might want to also try rolling Flash Player back to a previous version to see if still occurs. If it does not, then it might point to an issue with Flash Player in which case we should add a bug to bugbase.adobe.com.
How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player?

HTML Flickr Slideshow in Lightbox

I put a HTML Flickr Slideshow in a Lightbox composition. When I preview it shows the slideshow but when you click on the "Play" button the slideshow doesn't start. Any thoughts? Thank you,

I too wanted to do this and racked my brain trying to figure it out. At this time I am trying to work around it with worries that I am doing something that Muse will in time smack my hands for doing.
I have built slideshows, with no thumbnails, but showing a caption. Then I built Composition/Lightbox displays, using this trigger as an art element. THEN, I am pasting the trigger into the caption field for the original slideshow. Note: this seems to be working fine for desktop but I just realized that all my work will not translate other layouts without major rework because the original slideshow and lightbox display are separate and not linked they will not resize in relation to eachother.
So anyone have a way to make a slideshow, no thumbnails, click on image, jump to lightbox view of larger full image? Good luck, I will be watching your thread.
Add in another wish, can I lightbox view to area with HTML pointing to video or URL?

Flickr slideshow with AirTunes music?

Is it possible to run a Flickr photo slideshow (or any other internet photo slideshow for that matter) on AppleTV and simultaneously send iTunes music to play through this AppleTV as a targeted speaker via AirTunes?
For example, when the AppleTV is idle, I can send music to the AppleTV via the iTunes speakers selection, and music will play through the TV with track/album/artist info shown/overlayed on the AppleTV screensaver. With the music streaming, as soon as I control the AppleTV locally to go to photos and display a slideshow of a Flickr album, the music stops playing through this AppleTV.
Likewise, if I start a Flickr slideshow first on the AppleTV, and then go to iTunes to select this AppleTV as an AirTunes speaker, I get a message in iTunes that this device is in use and can't connect.
Note: In this scenario I do not want the AppleTV visuals to be the local content "floating and flipping" slideshow of the screensaver, but rather a slideshow whose source material is pulled from the internet (i.e. Flickr, MobileMe...)
I am running current versions of iTunes and AppleTV firmware.

Ah well. Perhaps this will be a feature in a future firmware update for AppleTV.

How do i change the order of a flickr slideshow

We're using AppleTV to display a slideshow of a Flickr photostream, but AppleTV appears to be randomizing the order of the images in the slideshow. The photostream on the Flickr web site has the images in the correct order.
I've searched through the settings, and can't seem to find anything about sorting the slideshow in AppleTV.

Get info on the files. Make sure each has the correct track number, disc number and same album name. If by various artists make sure there is an identical Album Artist for each.
This is of course presuming yu also have your window set to sort by album view and not something such as by artist name.

Music will not play from iTunes during a slideshow that is run from flickr. ATV says turn on homesharing...it already is on! HELP!!!!

Music will not play during a slideshow launched from Flickr. After choosing music and starting slideshow, the screen says "loading" and it never stops. Under the computers section it says, turn on home sharing in iTunes on the computer with the music library. It is on but apple tv wont recognize it. I've signed out and signed back in over and over and home sharing is on but music wont play. Is this a bug with flickr? Music will play when i launch a slideshow from the iPad but it doesnt have as many cool options for slideshows as flickr does. I want the flickr slideshow to play with music!!! Grrrrrrrr!!!!! Can anyone help???

ok, major miracle. it is now working. here is how i fixed it, and it was a stroke of luck to even find this. opened iTunes, went to edit, then to preferences. box pops up, went to the sharing icon and clicked share my local library on my local network. then scrolled down and checked all the boxes that were applicable. for the heck of it i went through all the other headings to see what else might be hiding from me. i never thought this would do anything but went to ATV, selected flickr, chose some music and wa-la....its playing. also, under the computers heading, it still does not show my iTunes library but clearly its there someplace. oh well, it works...i'm happy! your reply inspired me to keep working so thank you for that!

Does any one know about a site where we can share .Me or Flickr slideshows for our Apple TV's ?
If non existent I would like to see if there is enough interest to start a site for this purpose.

Flickr sets not synchronizing with Aperture

I have been using Aperture successfully to upload to my Flickr account for some time, but today I have been unable to upload images to a set. Curiously however, I can upload to my Photostream directly. I can use Flickr to move those items into a set, but in Aperture, I will never see those items in the set, no matter how many times I choose to "synchronize".
The feel of synchronization seems weird now. The publish or synchronize buttons induce a quick spin of the status icon, as if they are doing their job, then almost instantly stop, but nothing has happened. Like I say though, I can share to my photostream just fine though, so there doesn't seem to be any overall problem with the account connection.
I'm considering removing the Flickr account connection from my Aperture preferences, then remaking it, but I'm loathe to try that. I don't want to loose all of Aperture's existing knowledge of how the items in my Flickr sets correspond to items in my library, and I suspect I would lose that if I deleted the Flickr link.
Any suggestion of a less drastic solution before I try this would be welcome.
Extra points for fair disclosure or irrelevant extra information:
I had to reinstall Aperture 3.4.1 a month or so ago, after a failed update. Apple techs told me to do so after Aperture would crash when starting, from an apparently not uncommon bug with the installer. Although Facebook synchronization is working fine, I believe this is the first time since that I have tried uploading to Flickr.

I've found Flickr/Aperture sync problematical for some time, particularly when uploading to sets. Uploading to photostream worked fine - however, selecting a particular set appeared to have the effect of stripping out some of the IPTC data in particular replacing the date taken with the date uploaded.
Apple have shown little interest in remedying this. Until they do, I recommend uploading to photostream and allocating the image to a set from within Flickr.
Alternatively, use a plug-in (Flickr Export for Aperture by Connected Flow works very well for me).

Slideshow or....

I search for info on this subject and a lot of it was years old so I'm hoping there is a new solution.
I'm setting up a photography website. On my portfolio page I want people to see the work I've done. It could be in the manner of a slideshow, a moving band of pix, or hover over a thumbnail of one of my pix and have it open to a larger one. I want them to see my work in a larger size.
I publish to mobileme right now but I could use GoDaddy if it's easier to make this happen there. Any ideas?

Susan ~ One solution of several is to use a Flickr slideshow. You can either create a text or image hyperlink to the slideshow or embed it into your iWeb page via the HTML Snippet window. There's even a way to link to an external site (such as a Flickr slideshow) from iWeb's navigation bar. Also see this article:

Even though apple lists Flickr as being an iPad friendly html5 site, I still get prompted to install flash player for slideshows. I cleared cache and cookies and logged back in but still no luck.

Slideshow on iPad, automatically updated with latest photos

I'm looking to have a iPad slideshow running at events, while allowing event guests to email in photos - which are then automatically added into the already running slideshow. Could be either via an app, or Safari.
It looks like there are some systems that support emailing photos into albums, e.g. picasaweb, flickr, and it's also possible to update an iOS device's photos over email using IFTTT (unfortunately there's a sizeable IFTTT lag), but I haven't yet found a good way to have a running slideshow automatically include display on newly provided images.
I've found ways to get almost there, e.g. I've found apps such as "Web Albums" and Flickring to show picasaweb or flickr slideshows (but you have to exit the slideshow and resync), or embedding a picasaweb slideshow in a custom web page that could auto-refresh (although embedded picasaweb slideshows don't loop), Smugmug (but embedding in a custom web page has some limitations).
Any other ideas?

IWeb Slideshows

1 year ago I bought a new imac and iWeb. I've made about 10 sites.
The slideshows look great on my iMac. They are anout 630px wide with a nice reflection.
BUT!! on my PC, they suck. I tried to show someone my art work on the their PC, I was shocked. The images appear no bigger than matchboxes surrounded by a huge amount of black. I have a newish PC and it's just the same.
Does anyone else out there have the same problem?
I uploaded my pics to Flickr, dropped the code... success ... until I discovered
you can only have three set without going pro .... so no good for me.
Slide.com .... no end out unrelated advertising ... useless for my website
Myspace, well, their slideshows now autostart, not way of stopping them, no controls .... and they have annoying rounded corners which are getting very fashionable which I don't like ...
Anyone any advice?

I have just spent a good while getting nowhere logging in here, finally got into my account, phew!:

I started out with high hopes at Flickr, I could post their fabulous networking slideshows onto my iWeb page, add related videos too from YouTube which play many times faster than my better quality but internet sticky Quicktime vids, and so on, music from playlist.com sound effects and so on making the slideshows have a contextual setting on each webpage.
BUT, the crunch came at Flickr when I discovered you can only make 3 album sets on the free account, therefore only 3 separate slideshows, DAM! The only way round it is to go Pro for unlimited. As I have currently 2 iWeb hostings, I'm not in the mood to keep adding more expense.
Sooooo, the solution for me: I went over to Gmail 'Pica. Their slideshows are good, I customize the code so say at 800px wide I go down 800px instead of 566px for the vertical pics get as much TLC as the horizontal . You can change the code to make them any size like YouTube videos and with an autostart option which myspace doesn't have. There's no advertising at the end like Photobucket and Slide.com and a nice piece of software that's for mac so you can drag and drop pics to upload update the shows.
They also behave well on old PC's!

I started out making my sites with iWeb to add a professional edge to my free networking sites, I didn't even link to them. I feel a little foolish now as that's were the people are, and so now I'm mixing them all together. There needs for people to leave a networking site to go to a private website, and vise versa, and I'm still working on that. I've very surprisingly had 45,000 hits on a rather modest YouTube this past 6 months, a small account with 90 short videos, how to get that traffic over to my website is my next project! So the slideshows and websites better mean something more than they get on free networking sites and not be an anti-climax

Multiple Apple TV's on the same network with airplay issues.

I work at a school with 37 Apple TV's. They are all on the same network, some of them are wired while others are wireless. The problem I am having is that airplay works and then doesn't work for some unknown reason. The Apple TV's are connected to the network and internet when they are experiencing this and I believe that the issue is bonjour. Does anyone know any way of solving this issue.

Yeah, I think wiring them is the only solution to this problem.
We've only got three (well, had one and bought two more this summer - that's when the trouble started).
The first one I got had trouble connecting with the wireless network, so Apple support said to reboot the main router. That is, shut down the entire network while we reboot for one Apple TV. So...OK, I get it, Apple is a CONSUMER company and we're trying to use their products in a school...in spite of that, so far, it has been worth the effort.
But YESTERDAY I got that message about too many devices on the network and to "disconnect a device..." (you know the rest).
So, I called Aruba, knowing that it was a wireless issue and that I've had issues with them and, particularly
Bonjour. Aruba appears to be a Windows only network - would that I would have known that three years ago. But Aruba TAC has NO CLUE what the issue is. So I called Apple Tech Support and they have NO CLUE - weren't even aware of this posting, what, six months ago? (Shows you how much they read and value the forum - we're on our own, boys and girls!)
So...I wired the front of the school Apple TV to a nearby wireless access point and now it's a steady as a rock. But prior to that I actually stood in front of the ATV and watched as it connected, then disconnected, then connected, then disconnected (ad nauseum). Interferrence? Well, maybe, there are only about 150 rogue networks detected in the immediate vicinity - but Aruba ASSURED ME that their WAPs were sophisticated enough to recongnize that and filter them out. (Maybe not?)
So the ATV at the front of the building ocassionally just drops off the network. I can tell because we run a Flickr slideshow on it all day long with announcements and stuff. When I go by the TV and see the thumbnails and no slideshow, I know it has dropped off the network. Usually I can reconnect it. But that's not good enough.
Finally, yesterday, a teacher called me who has an ATV (long story on how she got that) and said she was not longer connected to the network. A shudder ran through my body as I expected (and realized) the worst.
So, my installer is coming tomorrow to wire her ATV into the WAP in her classroom. But TODAY, I have to call Aruba and enable the additional port since it's not enabled by default.
I'll tell you, every day, I get this horrific feeling in the pit of my stomach that this whole world of technology we have built is held together with bailing wire and duct tape and that it just has to blow at some point.
Then I watch Bob Ross do his paintings (and a NEW KID on the block - watch out for him - Kevin Hill - this kid takes Bob Ross to the next level and he's only 18 years old) and think - "What the heck am I doing here, anyway? Why am I not home painting?" But them I start feeling guilty that I'm leaving the school in the lurch. Who will stand up to these bozos who don't have a clue what's going on and, further, don't seem to care, yet, get this, think they are doing a GREAT JOB! I'm telling you, I'm living on Superman's Planet Bizarro!

Inserting external swf "Widgets" into a Flex app

Hi.
I need to insert several external widgets into my Flex application. For example the Twitter flash widget and flickr slideshows widget.
Those widgets normally give you HTML code to insert in your HTML page, like:

I'm trying to achieve the same goal in my Flex application using the SWFLoader control, but I've got a lot of troubles starting with security issues, and although I just learned to pass the FlashVars values, I don't know how to pass the "<param" values.

you'll probably find out that your host isn't listed there, so you will be not able to load any twitter stuff
