Does someone has the same problem? When I go to my computer, DVD drive shows nothing in it, can't read

Brunno, welcome to the forum.
It sounds like you may have a bad FltSim X disc.  I suggest trying the disc in a friends computer to see if it works.

  • Flight Sim keyboard shortcuts

Has anyone got the keyboard shortcuts / commands for Flight Sim on an iMac running Windows?  As in Bootcamp Window.
I looked an someone spoke aobut comcast, but that's not the case here.
It used to be F1-F4 did engine speeds, and F5-F8 did flaps, but doesn't work with the newer iMac aluminum keyboard.  (which btw I don't like, too flat and I get zapped touching it after walking across the room.)
    Cheers

perhaps this thread or others in the "more like this" section next to it might help : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3167143?start=0&tstart=0.  If you have already read them, I'm sorry, I am not a mindreader, which is also why I did not know that you already searched the Flight Simulator 9 or FX forums.

  • XP SP 2 and Flight Sim 2004 vs Bootcamp = no audio

Hi I've got a 27" imac and have installed XP SP2. I'm running OS 10.6.2 and have installed Microsoft Flight Sim 2004. I can't get any audio when running the flight sim. Have managed to get basic sounds in windows by changing one setting which was an improvement but thats it.
I'm also wondering what screen res would be the best choice in Microsoft Flight sim. They give you about 1 million options. What is best? Can anyone help?

Well, I'm making progress - of a sort.
The Sharp connects via AV (Video + 1 audio channel) to the Sony Z1P. Fine
The Z1P "captures" the Sharp's footage to tape (it seems the Sony won't "pass-thru" directly - oh, well...). Video AND audio are faithfully recorded, as they play back rather well on the Z1P's LCD screen.
Now, the Z1P uses what appears to be a proprietary Sony "iLink" cable - it looks like a 4-pin to 4-pin IEEE1394 cable - and my computer's firewire input socket is a 6-pin. Tried a 4-pin to 6-pin cable - didn't work. Couldn't identify the camera. There must be something about the Sony iLink cable, huh?
So, I have an older laptop with a 4-pin socket, and grab the footage that way. Fine, but the laptop can't keep up and drops frames all over the place. At least I 've got both video and audio, now.
I was capturing using WMM at DV-AVI running at 25MB/sec and that's obviously too much for this little laptop. WMM has a lot of slow bandwidth options, ranging from 28.8KB/sec to 768KB/sec, then DV-AVI at 25MB/sec - nothing in between.
I think I'm going to buy a firewire adapter with a 4-pin socket.

  • Are the iMacs able to handle Flight Sims?

My iMac is an early intel version with a 2.16 GHz cpu and 2.0 GB ram with the nVidia 7600 GT video card. Can someone please tell me if the flight sim 'X-Plane' would work with this platform? I have not picked up any joysticks or control wheels as I wasn't sure whether or not the computer was flight sim capable or not.
My old dell pc was to some degree, but it was too old to modify enough to make flight sim games worthwhile. Any help would be appreciated.

Off the top of my head I would expect it to work just fine. You can download the demo of version 8 and see how it goes. You can drive with the mouse and keyboard in the demo mode for about 10 minutes. It's a big download, but worth the wait.
You've probably already discovered x-plane.org? It's a web site for rabid x-plane fans. I'd post your question there and I'm suspecting you'll get a lot of responses. They are pretty helpful in my experience.
FYI - I'm running x-plane version 8 on my iMac without a hitch. There is actually one small hitch in the video drivers for my Mac (uses a ATI card) that does not display runway lights properly, but I think that should not be an issue for you. (The X-plane author claims it is an Apple/ATI deficiency in the video drivers for the new iMac. Version 9 works around the problem I am told).

  • T61P won't read flight sim X

As the subject line says, my DVD-RW drive doesn't recognize MS Flight Sim X when the disc is put in the drive. It spins up but shortly after spins back down. When that disc is in, the computer basically locks up, although the mouse cursor still moves, but the drive will not eject the disc and the only thing I can do with the computer is to hold down the power button and shut it down. The only way I can try and view the volume in the DVD drive is to restart with the flight sim disc already in, but when windows explorer opens up, it freezes and doesn't show anything in the drive. I know the discs are good, as they load with no problem in my wife's HP laptop with Vista and my desktop with XP. My T61p has Win XP and has no problem recognizing any other CD or DVD that I put in the drive. Anybody have any thoughts?

What is the exact wording of the error message you receive?
Has the iPhone been jailbroken or modified to work with other
    than the original wireless provider?
Have you installed one of the iOS 7 beta versions on that iPhone?

  • Microsoft Flight Sim question

    Hello!
I really would like to play Microsoft Flight Sim on my iMac. I was wondering, if install XP, would Flight Sim work at 100% or should I get a cheap PC?
    Thanks!
    James

Running Windows on a Mac through Boot Camp is no different then running Windows on any other PC. So if Fligh Sim runs on Windows, it will run on your Mac.

  • Got a flight sim it says it needs D3DRDM,dll to work can you help?

  • I have a friend who is looking for an iMac to run X-Plane (Flight Sim)

O.K. my friend is a 86 year old former B-29 bombardier from the 462nd bombardment group USAAF.
He uses PC's but he is looking for an iMac that will run X-Plane
    http://www.x-plane.com/
a flight simulator that works on the Macintosh platform.
He has been frustrated by being attacked by Hackers before on his PC (I think that he might have gotten a couple of Remote Trojans) and he wants to go back online again of the Internet.
Will X-Plane run decently on a current iMac?
How about the low end model will it run this decently?
I'm looking for individuals who have used this on their iMac to respond preferably.
I see the requirements for X-Plane here
    http://www.x-plane.com/sysreq.html
According to this it looks as though any iMac should work.
I don't think that he can afford a Mac Pro and since he is my friend I don't want him to spend too much money.

    '83Mac,
I think you might want to reconsider your recommendation. While your friend may not want to go $2200 for the high end model, it seems to me that an extra $300 for twice the video RAM, twice the system RAM, 30% more HD space and a slightly more powerful CPU in the 2.66GHz. 20 in. model would certainly be worth it. 128MB of Video RAM is just not that much any more, and your friend is looking at buying a Mac specifically for x-plane, a graphic intense program. As you may know, and your friend would certainly be aware of, x-plane is in constant development and is always pushing the edge of the envelope as far as current system capabilities are concerned. It would give your friend a system that would be able to handle whatever is in the x-plane pipeline for a longer time to come, and extend his capabilities with the program's current state. Just my two cents.
    Hope this helps,
    Jeff

  • Using My MP to Play Flight Sim X.

I finally got Vista to install, XP would fail during install, so I did Vista.
Since Apple screwed up when they gave me this new MP 2.8 and failed to get me the restore DVD's for this machine, I had to install drivers from Multiple sources, Keyboard and mouse/small stuff from my wife aluminum iMac, the video/sound from vista/web.
So I am trying to play Microsoft Flight Simulator X
I am using the ATI 2600 right now while I wait for an 8800 to show up.
    4GB 800 Mhz memory
Sure, Vista only shows 2GB memory, whatever,
However a 128MB video card should run this game...I would think. I cant take anything past Medium for settings, otherwise I get 3fps and the game even locked up on me once.
    So, the questions..
Any others out there who run this game on the Pro?
How do you have it (windows/FSX) setup?
    Will the 8800 work better?
    Should I go with XP?
I have all eye candy shut off on Vista. Does this matter?
64 or stay with 32 Vista?
How do I get the memory to show 4GB and use it in Windows? Does it matter?
What can I do to get FSX to run at 100% Full everything on my MP?
I only have a 32GB partition via BC to have this game, I dont use Windows for anything else.

!) FSX runs best on XP Pro 32 bit. I have it installed on a separate WD SE16 HD.
2)Yes the 8800 is superior. Make sure you download the 169.21 8800GT drivers from Nvidia if you get one.
    3) 4g of 800 should be fine for FSX.
    4) I use all custom settings and finally found the right combination with my 8800GT/ 2.8 combo. Can't know about your ATi card.
    5) Your not going to be able to max out the sliders on your machine. I can have Global Density to dense. I have flare and ground shadows off. Weather to min, clouds to simple. 1680X1050 32 bit resolution,
animation to normal, ground traffic to zero. General aviation to 20%, airline density to 50%, special effects to normal. ATC and music off unless in multiplayer, or in missions.
    6) MUCH better performance without SP1 & 2 or adding Acceleration for FSX. SP1 really changes the way the cores handle tasks and puts more pressure on the cores vs GPU. Adding Acceleration gave me the dreaded "stutter" seen on forums. So, stay with your basic FSX install. This is a biggie. Or get a 3.2 Octo :))
    7) We must accept the fact that FSX will not run as well on our Boot Camp Macs as it will on a Gaming PC. But with patience and lot's of experimentation under custom settings you can tweak it pretty close.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using Older Version Flight Sims on a Pavilion Dv7-4177nr by installing Windows XP

Does anyone or has anyone installed Windows XP in a partition to play older games?...if so I would love to hear from you on how to go about doing this...I have already backed up my software on DVD-R disks just in case and have an old XP disk to install...I have heard that this is feasible and have seen where it is offered on Microsoft but they want 200 bucks to up-grade from Windows7 Home Premium (64) to Windows7 Professional...

What you should  consider is virtualization software if your nptebook processor has the capability and it is enabled. It is much less hassle than a laptop dual boot.  With virtualization you won't lose your recovery partition.
I did a search for free virtualization software for you. You .will have to do a bit  of reading to  learn how to configure it or find a youtube video that shows how it is done.
With virtualization there is no need to change your hard disk partition.
It is worthwhile to read up and see if it is what will fill your needs.
    Best regards,
    erico

    Paul,
I have run FS2k4 with the 45.23 DetonatorFX Drivers from the nVidia Website on a GeForce4 Ti4800. Everything worked great as long as you do NOT set Anisotropic Filtering to 8X.

  • Flight Simulator, controller recommendations?

I was wondering if any of the fellow MDD users here has a favorite OS X (or 9) flight simulator that they recommend, that would run well on a MDD, and a good USB joystick/controller.
Does X-Plane (any particular preferred version) run well?
Or how about FlightGear for Mac?
    http://www.x-plane.com/
    http://macflightgear.sourceforge.net/home/
any one with first-hand experience care to share a quick review or pointers on how well it runs on their MDD?
I am thinking my GeForce4 Ti probably would run the older flight sims better in OS 9 than any of the newer ones that require 10.4 (I can boot either). But a new video card is always an option.
On my old G3 Dekstop I was running OS 9 versions of Fly! (version 1) and F/A-18 Hornet 1.2 & Korea 3.0 with an ADB CH Products F16 Fighterstick, but found the joystick action was fairly sensitive and hard to keep trimmed and didn't really use them that much. I no longer have the G3 (or ADB joystick) so I'm looking for a USB joystick/controller for my MDD. Thanks!

    Hi Glenn,
Boy, did you post in the right place! I've run Mac flight sims for years and was a beta tester for Fly! 2 for Mac. That program never handled OSX very well, but I understand it's now gone open-source and is being used again. Haven't gotten back to it.
I use X-Plane 7.30 almost exclusively on my MDD (1.25G SP; 10.4.11; 1,74GB RAM; Radeon 9000 Pro 64VRAM). I tried the last of V7--7.63--but found it buggy, went back to the stable 7.30, and never tried v8 on the MDD. I ran the v9 demo on my MacBook Pro 2.2G and it ran fine.
X-Plane 7 produces frame rates in the 30-50 fps range with the sim set at 1024x768 and the details setting basically cranked to a six out of a possible seven detail levels. XP uses the "aperture function" in AGP cards to access some main memory when the v-card VRAM runs out. At current settings. XP says it's using nearly twice the VRAM that is on the Radeon card. Runs fine.
I recommend you try the v9 demo on your current set-up to see how it runs. The demo defaults to a complex scenery area in Switzerland (I think) so it's a pretty heavy-duty test of your system. Play with the settings and see if you can live with it. Understand the the demo area has custom scenery elements that make it more taxing than will routine flying--most areas will not have custom scenery unless you add it. In X-Plane, you can install airport and terrain databases for the entire world. I did, and my XP folder is 6.77GB. That's without any custon scenery areas!
You will find the menu system rather un-Macish even though the developer team uses Macs. Bothered me at first but I got over it.
I think I tried the FlightGear demo and found it choppy on the MDD and pretty much non-responsive to input.
Several years ago I bought a Saitek ST200 digital stick for US$15 off a clearance rack someplace to replace my old ADB Gravis MouseStick ii. X-Plane is quite happy with it. Can't say the same about other sims. I loved the Hornet franchise and own three pre-OSX versions but they do not like the USB stick. I intend to try the lastest OSX version but simply haven't gotten to it.
We could make this thread go on for a long time

  • Flight Simulator

Anyone know of a decent flight sim for the iMAC G5 or MAC in general? Are there any serious ones that maybe come close to MS Flight simulator with correct functioning instruments and realistic scenery etc..

Did you notice the comments in System Requirments for this product?
Anyone know why to run this application on the Mac you need twice the Ram as you would on a PC?
Also, has anyone used this USB yoke with X-Plane?

    any tips , solutions ??

Seems like it works after getting the 4.2.x update. However, I couldn't immediately get it to work. When I engaged caps lock, and then entered Cmd-Option-A, I got the Fight Sim info window.
I'll have to try this out... Thanks for the tip. After that, the option is in the Tools menu, even if you quit and restart. And just Cmd-Option-A goes to the flight sim window.
