Flight simulator and MBP

Can anyone recommend a flight simulator, preferrably WWII type combat. I would like to run it on OS X, but if it is not available has anyone run one on a MBP using XP?
I am also considering using Bootcamp and XP to run the radio control airplane simulator called G3 any comments?
Thank you

Thanks, Sig.  I think I should've been a little clearer.  I've attempted to do the updates on my Mac, but I get a warning that it will erase everything except calenders, email, etc from the iPad.  I've syned the iPad with the Mac with no problem, but get scary messages when I try to do the latest update.

  • Whats a good mac to use for a home flight simulator with flight controls and foot pedals?

whats a good mac to use for a home flight simulator with flight controls and foot pedals?
My old 6100 AV worked great on A10 ATTACK, back in 1993.
whats a good set up now a days?
I havent seen any MAC set ups as a lot of the after market accessories are on  Windows platform.
Is there a way or should I get a dedicated simulator on PC?

The fact that USB flight input devices appear to Windows only is not a limitation; for Mac most are programmed through the sim itself. I know X-Plane does that.
I've simmed a lot and know that good sims need a lot of processor and video hardware horsepower, and you'll also need a lot of RAM. They also run up the internal temps. A Mac Pro has better cooling than an iMac. You can get a program like SMCFanControl to manually set up the fans speeds before starting the sim.
I know of no sims today that will still run on a PowerPC Mac (2005 and earlier) so you need to look to an Intel Mac with top specs. If looking at iMacs, start by looking for the quad-core i7 processor. Those models usually came with an up-rated video card. Thing 12 to 16GB RAM.
My 2010 iMac has the 2.93gHz i7 processor, video hardware (ATI 5750) with 1TB VRAM, and 12 GB of RAM. It runs the x-Plane 10 demo fine but I've not bought the full version because v10 seems to make foot pedals darned near mandatory, and I don't want $100 worth of pedals under my regular work desk at the moment.

  • I need to install windows on my new Macbook pro for running my flight simulator software

    Hi!
I'm new to the Mac world and I need to install windows on my new Macbook pro for running my flight simulator software which only runs on windows. I would like to purchase and download the windows 8.1 rather than buying the CD.
When i go to the microsoft store and click windows 8.1 it says it is only for who has windows xp or vista...
can you tell me where and how can i purchase the full installation 8.1 for download?
i will keep the ISO file on my flash drive.
    Thanks!

it's likely an upgrade you are looking for and not a full install of windows

  • Google Earth Flight Simulator

Is my system capable of operating the Google Earth flight simulator?
I have the pre-Intel version of the Mac Mini upgraded to 1MB Ram, recently purchased 19" View Sonic monitor with DVI connection.
The Google Earth flight simulator has a slow prop plane and an F-16.
I do not have a joy stick but would get one if my Mac Mini is up to handling the requirements of a flight simulator.

I notice you say you have the 'pre-Intel' Mac mini, which would make your mini a PPC first generation system. I think you mis-stated your memory (RAM) @ 1mb, which should probably say 1gb. If you had 1mb it'd be a massive downgrade and your system most certainly wouldn't run.
That being the case, you'd have the ATI Radeon 9200 32mb built in video card. That card uses it's own discreet video memory, and is actually a bit better than the early Intel GMA950 integrated video.
You thus meet the specs for Google Earth, but it's probably not going to run all that quickly on the system, mainly because of the relatively slow processor. The main snag would be the load time, as it loads slowly even on my Intel mini. I've not tried it on this PPC mini, but it should work - just don't expect crisp video game play type results. The flight simulator in Google Earth is not really meant to be a full video game though, so you may find the performance adequate.

  • Can Flight Simulator X run on a Mac?

    Hi,
I just pulled out my old Flight Simulator X out of a box in my closet. I put it in my brother's Dell to test it out and I got back into loving planes.
I'd like to install it on my Mac.
I currently own Parallels Desktop and I have Wineskin.
I'd prefer not to use Parallels but if it was my only option I'd go there.
I use Wineskin for running a couple PC games but the guy who makes the wrappers (paulthetall.com) doesn't make one for FSX so I'd have to make my own wrapper.
    Can anybody help me?
    I have a Mid-2011 MacBook with 8GB of RAM, a 256GB hard drive, and a NVIDIA GeForce 320M with 256MB.
    Thanks,
    apple is awesome

Due to the graphics requirements of FSX, your best bet would be BootCamp.  There's a lot of 3D rendering in FSX and you're not going to get good performance via Parallels.

  • Playing MS Flight Simulator on Intel Mac

    Hi,
Just like to check if anyone is playing the MS Flight Simulator on their iMac. I am asking becos I thought the spec for the iMac is not sufficient to support the game.

    Hi,
I have iMac 24" 2.8GHz 2 GB ram. XP SP2 in Bootcamp. FSX runs fine. Get the latest ATI drivers for Bootcamp from the ATI site. Biggest frame hog seems to be the AA. Choose the minimum setting with the ATI utility supplied. You might want to play with Mipmapping etc as well.
From memory, I was getting around 20FPS minumum pretty consistently at mostly maxed out settings. A couple of strange things happen occasionally. Going from 3d cockpit to 2d cockpit (or vice versa) can slow down the the works. Either restarting FSX or changing some video settings and hitting OK seems to work.
One other thing, FSX SP1 is good - multicore support etc. FSX SP2 has a couple of problems - lose menu text and so on. Unless it's been fixed, stick with FSX SP1.
Lastly, I was getting strange artifacts after changing screen resolution etc, and going back into FSX. Once again, if this happens, go back into video settings (FSX that is), uncheck filtering, check it again, then click OK. Works fro me. Haven't got the foggiest idea why, and your experience may be totally different. When you feel like a change, install IL2 Sturmovik, and have some fun!

  • Error 1722 when installing Flight Simulator X

    Hello.
I'm reinstalling my Flight Simulator X on Windows 8.1, but when I'm in the second disk, the error 1722 is displayed and the process stops. I don't know if is a media failure and I have to get another disk or I can do something else. The game was
    working fine before in W8.1
If I have to get another disk, where and how I can do it, or I can download from an official site?.
    Regards.

  • Flight Simulator, controller recommendations?

I was wondering if any of the fellow MDD users here has a favorite OS X (or 9) flight simulator that they recommend, that would run well on a MDD, and a good USB joystick/controller.
Does X-Plane (any particular preferred version) run well?
Or how about FlightGear for Mac?
    http://www.x-plane.com/
    http://macflightgear.sourceforge.net/home/
any one with first-hand experience care to share a quick review or pointers on how well it runs on their MDD?
I am thinking my GeForce4 Ti probably would run the older flight sims better in OS 9 than any of the newer ones that require 10.4 (I can boot either). But a new video card is always an option.
On my old G3 Dekstop I was running OS 9 versions of Fly! (version 1) and F/A-18 Hornet 1.2 & Korea 3.0 with an ADB CH Products F16 Fighterstick, but found the joystick action was fairly sensitive and hard to keep trimmed and didn't really use them that much. I no longer have the G3 (or ADB joystick) so I'm looking for a USB joystick/controller for my MDD. Thanks!

    Hi Glenn,
Boy, did you post in the right place! I've run Mac flight sims for years and was a beta tester for Fly! 2 for Mac. That program never handled OSX very well, but I understand it's now gone open-source and is being used again. Haven't gotten back to it.
I use X-Plane 7.30 almost exclusively on my MDD (1.25G SP; 10.4.11; 1,74GB RAM; Radeon 9000 Pro 64VRAM). I tried the last of V7--7.63--but found it buggy, went back to the stable 7.30, and never tried v8 on the MDD. I ran the v9 demo on my MacBook Pro 2.2G and it ran fine.
X-Plane 7 produces frame rates in the 30-50 fps range with the sim set at 1024x768 and the details setting basically cranked to a six out of a possible seven detail levels. XP uses the "aperture function" in AGP cards to access some main memory when the v-card VRAM runs out. At current settings. XP says it's using nearly twice the VRAM that is on the Radeon card. Runs fine.
I recommend you try the v9 demo on your current set-up to see how it runs. The demo defaults to a complex scenery area in Switzerland (I think) so it's a pretty heavy-duty test of your system. Play with the settings and see if you can live with it. Understand the the demo area has custom scenery elements that make it more taxing than will routine flying--most areas will not have custom scenery unless you add it. In X-Plane, you can install airport and terrain databases for the entire world. I did, and my XP folder is 6.77GB. That's without any custon scenery areas!
You will find the menu system rather un-Macish even though the developer team uses Macs. Bothered me at first but I got over it.
I think I tried the FlightGear demo and found it choppy on the MDD and pretty much non-responsive to input.
Several years ago I bought a Saitek ST200 digital stick for US$15 off a clearance rack someplace to replace my old ADB Gravis MouseStick ii. X-Plane is quite happy with it. Can't say the same about other sims. I loved the Hornet franchise and own three pre-OSX versions but they do not like the USB stick. I intend to try the lastest OSX version but simply haven't gotten to it.
We could make this thread go on for a long time

  • Flight Simulator

Anyone know of a decent flight sim for the iMAC G5 or MAC in general? Are there any serious ones that maybe come close to MS Flight simulator with correct functioning instruments and realistic scenery etc..

Did you notice the comments in System Requirments for this product?
Anyone know why to run this application on the Mac you need twice the Ram as you would on a PC?
Also, has anyone used this USB yoke with X-Plane?

  • Real Flight Simulator G5 for mac

I want to use Real Flight Simulator G5 for mac. I couldn't find anything saying it was compatible for mac. I was wondering if I use Parallells or Boot Camp, would that work? I saw on a forum somewhere it said Virtual Pc on mac that it wasn't compatible. Has anyone else tried using Real Flight Simulator G5 on a mac?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
RFS should work quite fine when installing Windows on your Mac with BootCamp.
Basically with BootCamp you install and run Windows as if you are on any other given Windows PC.
Parallels and the other virtualization apps (VMWare Fusion and VirtualBox) are not the best for running Windows games.
Virtual PC was an emulator that enabled older PowerPC Macs to run Windows. Maybe because of the different processor used (PowerPC then, Intel now) RFS didn't worked with Virtual PC.

  • Google Earth has a hidden Flight Simulator...

The latest version Google Earth has an hidden Flight Simulator.
Several Mac Users got it working and are very happy with it.
But i can't get it working,
    Here is the link:
    http://earth.google.com/intl/en/userguide/v4/flightsim/index.html
the entry command (Applekey + Option + A) doesn't work on my PB G4 PPC 867MHZ.
    any tips , solutions ??

Seems like it works after getting the 4.2.x update. However, I couldn't immediately get it to work. When I engaged caps lock, and then entered Cmd-Option-A, I got the Fight Sim info window.
I'll have to try this out... Thanks for the tip. After that, the option is in the Tools menu, even if you quit and restart. And just Cmd-Option-A goes to the flight sim window.

  • ICal and TIME ZONES (and iPhone and MBP)

    hi all.
i went through this issue twice before and finally sorted it out with a mac technician under my applecare warranty but i see it has happened again.
last week i flew to the northeast (one hour ahead of me) and i find that my 3:15 PM flight (entered into iCAL on either my MAC PRO or on my MACBOOKPRO or on my iPHONE) - suddenly decided that it would be a good idea to change this flight from 3:15PM to 4:15 PM on my phone.
does anyone know what settings i need to pay attention to and whether there are any defaults for this or good url's with particularly good explanations? i cannot afford to have this happen again but i don't know if it is a result of my getting a new logic board on the macbookpro (and not changing a setting), or if it is related to upgrading to Lion on the MP and ML on the MBP or if it is related to my entering the FLIGHT on my MBP or MP /without/ adjusting some specfic setting for that particular entry or what the what.
expert help from anyone that relies on this for regular travel would be a huge help to me.
    TIA

presumably this has nothing to do with Date and Time Preferences...

I have Microsoft combat flight simulator 2 released in 2000. I used to play this on my PC which had Windows XP and it worked great. I no longer have that PC and am trying to play it on my laptop (hooked up to my TV as the monitor). The laptop has
