Flight Tracker Widget

My new MacBook has a Flight Tracker widget, but the drop down menus don't have any airline, origin, destination info in them. How do you download the info so you can use the widget? I can't find any instructions.

Hi! Since it comes with the OS you can probably reload it from there. It should update via the internet when it's opened. You might look in your users>library folder for a com.apple.flighttracker.plst file corresponding to Flight Tracker and trash that pref file and then log out and back in to create a new pref file for it. • Flight Tracker Widget Not Working

I am a newbie and flight tracker widget will not find a flight for me. Can you help? I can type in locations but that is all that I can do. Thanks

Hello sharal09 & welcome to the forums...
These types of trackers can wax and wane in terms of reliability - if the source of information they are built to rely on is changed, they can break easily. You might want to consider using specific airlines websites as an alternative.

  • Flight Tracker widget lists not populated on new Macbook

Do I need to load this information somehow? It opens up no problem and all my other widgets are working fine, internet connection is good, etc. I'm a new Mac user so I feel like I could've missed something!

I have the same problem. Flight Tracker is working on my old computer: a PowerBook with OSX 10.4 installed, but not on this one an iMac running Leopard.
You shouldn't have to load any information, just select the airline, departure and arrival city.

  • Is anyone else's Flight Tracker widget busted?

Anytime I try to type in any of the three fields I get a beep and it doesn't respond. The only way I'm about to adjust airline, departing citing and destination is by using the drop down box. It didn't use to be this way. I've tried logging off/logging in, closing and re opening the widget and even rebooting. Any suggestions? Am I alone in this? I'm trying to track a friend's flight, grrr...

Since I have updated to 10.4.8 I have lost the use of the People, Business, and Weather widgets. Translator and the other widgets are OK.
Weather doesn't update. The other two comeback with "Data Unavailable".
On 2 other machines in the house on the same network and OS they are working fine.
I have deleted prefs, rebooted, removed each widget to no avail.
    Any thoughts/ideas are appreciated.

  • Widget Request: Flight Tracker

    Widget Request: Flight Tracker
I would love to see Flight Tracker from OS X come to the iPhone. I can only imagine that Apple will start migrating a few more widgets to the iPhone, and I for one would like to see this one.

ditto! How about integrating the ability to have your phone "ping" when a flight has landed or taken off, or at least automatically configure the app to send you email for those events?
While we're at it how about a Travelocity app?
I suppose you can always go to other websites for these things, but applets tend to be "designed" for the small phone screen and capabilities...

  • Flight track pro crashes immediately in ios6. Any suggestions?

All forms paid and unpaid including latest version of flight track app crash immediately in iOS 6. Any help available?

    Bill,
Thanks for the advice. Today I went to work on the project it opened fine but then it crashed 3 times on me.
First time  I tried top replace a small clip in Audition and it worked fine UNTIL it sent it back to Premiere then crashed.
Second time I clicked on another window. The projects froze and tried to rebuild the peaks of the large file.
    'My computer specs are:
    Intel E5530 @ 2.40 GHZ 2 processors. 64 Bit. With 1TB of memory.
    I have Windows 7.
I used the "HIGH PERFORMANCE PLAN" under power usuage.
Does anybody know what could be causing this?! It's so unbelieveably frustrating.

  • Currency Tracker Widget not working

    Hi
Anyone else have their Apple Currency Tracker Widget not working - when I drop it on my dashboard it shows up but cannot be edited - when I try and click on the i button nothing happens - any ideas??

Try deleting this pref/plist file in your /Library/Preferences folder:

  • Time tracking widget/ application??

Hi...I am looking for a time tracking widget or application. I work in a manner similar to an attorney where I track billable hours by assignment. I am not looking for an app that I have to click a timer. Just one to simply enter a date, short description and hours worked. I am looking for a stand alone app that is NOT tied to some online service. Any ideas??

You might want to look at Mac time tracking application OfficeTime (http://www.officetime.net). It has overwhelmingly positive comments on VersionTracker and MacUpdate.

  • Missing Features, Bugs, and Wish List for Apple Engineers

I LOVE my iPhone. It is by far the best phone I have ever had. The interface is awesome. Great job Apple, but there are missing features and bugs that all of us want updated or wish were added. I know they were probably already thought of by Apple, but in an effort to make the phone perfect removed to make it more stable. Now that it is out lets make it perfect.
This thread will hopefully give you guys guidance from the early adopters who share your love for the phone (and others who want to chime in). I want to separate the list into a few categories and hope everyone will add to this thread with their ideas:
    1) BUGS/CHANGES TO EXISTING APPS:
    - Period should be in alphabet keyboard (make space smaller) or when you go to symbol keyboard and hit period it should automatically go back to the alphabet keyboard (unless you double click the symbol button which means stay there like caps lock)
    - Individual delete (like Mail) of all lists (eg. call list, bookmarks list, history etc.
    - Multiple item in a List delete (see below for how to select). This is also so un-Mac like to not be able to select multiple items to delete. It is all or none for clear/delete on the iPhone.
    - Implement double finger slide...in maps double finger tap zooms out so the OS recognizes this, why don't you use a double finger drag to mean "select". There is no way to select some words in a sentence or a group of items. This could be how. eg. In a list (eg Mail) double finger slide over items you want to select (instead of singer finger drag which moves the list) then one finger slide to the right to delete the selected items from the list.
    - Copy and paste. Since there are no menus this would require a gesture (ala newton)
    - when you tap the battery icon it should bring up a battery status dialog (ala wifi join dialog where the screen dims): present charge, big battery icon (like the charging one), time left. In addition, instead of giving battery usage details only after a full charge, give it at any point.
    - Since you know that nights and weekends are at set times (and not variable like it was on Sprint where I came from)...the phone usage details should be broken down into: peak minutes used and N+W minutes used (not hard to figure out since you know the time and dates of calls)
    - Be able to change font/background etc in Notes app
    - faster way to get to favorites in the killer phone app after turning on phone. Just seems like it takes too many taps to get there to make a call on a phone.
    2) WISH LIST FOR NEW APPS (apps that can be added with existing hardware, see #3 for other wishes)
    - iChat (obvious and probably almost done)
    - VOIP (probably not going to happen, and wouldn't work in Europe where I would need it most gven network speeds there)
    - Flight tracker widget
    - Exchange support (probably in the works)
    - Push email from gmail and .Mac (probably in the works)
    - Bluetooth sync
    - DUN (probably not going to happen since AT+T does not want it)
    - Data/File storage with sync
    - TODO APP that syncs to to do in iCal
    - Ringtones, definitely from songs from iPod side (obvious and coming soon I am sure)
-Search function like spotlight. Global would be awesome, but even just in contacts
    3) FUTURE HARDWARE RELATED WISHES (stuff we wish could be in hardware version 1 but know require a version 2):
    - GPS
    - 3G
    - LED that changes color and/or pulses (like MacBooks sleep light) that indicates things (eg charge status, Voice mail status, roaming status etc) without turning on the phone
    - Move camera to front to allow video conferencing (I doubt Steve would allow since it would mess up the clean front look)
Well I could go on and will add to this thread later, but I need to go to work to show everyone (and sell more apple stuff since many of my colleagues have been converted to macs). Now, all you pioneers, start adding things to help our beloved phone become better!
    Peter
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.6)

I agree with your post! I'm amazed by the simplicity, the screen, and the apps on the iPhone. They all have worked wonderfully for me, with just a few crashes while surfing or loading big email images. (I heard that shutting down the phone and restarting helps that.)
The single flaw for me is that the phone app itself should be primary, with more options (quicker access, unique ringtones, voicedial?) and ease of use. The other applications are so elegant, but I need my phone to be very accessible and practical too.
    My wish list:
    1) Make it fewer taps to get to the point where you can make a phone call. How about the main button can be programmed to take you wherever you want. I'd choose to go to Phone Favorites, so I could speed dial right away.
    2) Be able to set a preference as to what app you're in when you wake up the phone. I'd choose phone keypad, some might choose iCal, etc.
    3) Add the period and comma symbols to the alpha keyboard.
    4) Allow different ringtones for specific caller ID's.
    5) Copy and paste.
V2) With new hardware, add a "back" button to return to prev. screen. It could be small, on the side near volume?

  • Dashboard - blue cubes with question marks?

When I display dashboard, the flight tracker widget has blue squares with question marks over the three drop down menus. Is there a way to reinstall this widget or dashboard to fix this?
MacBook Pro 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Dashboard Widgets are based on the same Javascript rendering engine that Safari has. As a result, things that would cause these blue squares to appear in Safari could cause that to happen on the widget. Three of the most common causes are server traffic, uninstalled or damaged web browser plugins (such as Flash), and images that no longer exist on the server. I would contact the developer of the widget which you can find clicking the italic 'i' at the corner and find out what servers they refer to in order to get images, and then run a traceroute to the said server. Traceroute is a function in your Network Utility. If you get many asterisks in the middle of the route, that means your internet service provider has trouble peering with the widget's image server's internet provider. Asterisks at your end usually indicate a firewall that could be blocking the images from getting through. Sometimes internet service providers put up a firewall to protect their own customers. If you are behind a router, a port may need to be opened on the router which the developer of the widget can inform you more about.

  • Using the Leopard disc provided with a new Mac with other Macs

    Hello,
A couple of weeks ago I bought a Macbook Pro that included the Leopard disc, which hadn't been installed on the machine. I went away last weekend and when I returned, my house had been burglarized and my brand new Macbook Pro was gone. I would like to get another Macbook Pro to replace it, but I can't afford to pay full retail once again so I am looking into getting a used one. Anyway, I'm wondering if I were to buy one that didn't included Leopard, would I be able to install it from the disc that came with my old Mac?
    Thanks,
    Grant

No lawyers are necessary, no debate necessary either. Just read the license agreement.
FWIW - the license restricts you to using the software only on an Apple-branded computer, and only one computer per licensed copy of the software. The license does not require you to use the OS on the same computer that you purchased (I'd encourage you to read the license when you attempt to install to verify my statements -- the license is presented and you have to agree to it before the installation goes forward).
I only have the Tiger license in front of me right now, but it has all sorts of interesting tidbits in it. Technically speaking, using iChat in a commercial setting is prohibited, as is MPEG2 encoding, modifying files in a .app folder, encoding MPEG4 and H.264 is restricted to personal and noncommercial uses, using the AMR codec with a mobile device is prohibited, as is divulging flight information you obtain through the Flight Tracked widget to a third party.
As far as licenses go, it's pretty friendly. Microsoft, for example, has had licenses that prohibit benchmarking or testing their software, or using MS Word to write disparaging comments about their company; MS even had a warning at one time against using their operating systems in critical applications such as life-support, medical and weapons systems. Microsoft still requires its licensees to submit to license compliance audits on demand.

  • What happened to Sherlock

I recently found the Sherlock program in Tiger. While I didn't use it frequently, I did find it helpful. It is not in Tiger. Was this intentional? Is there a way to get Sherlock back?

It's gone. The functionality of Sherlock has largely been replaced by widgets (e.g. there's a flight tracker widget, a new movies widget, a weather widget, etc.).
For some things I preferred Sherlock but.. well... it's gone now. RIP

  • Broken widgets

Hi, three of my widgets, Flight Tracker, Business and People are broken. They all show the little icon for missing plugins (a blue box with a question-mark in it) on their drop down/text fields.
I've tried to repair permissions and such but no luck.
    http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/7657/bild20zv.png

WebKit is designed to look in three places for plugins:
    1) [Hard Drive]/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    2) ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    3) The "Resources" folder in an application's package.
The third method is how Dashboard works: any Web plugins inside the widget package are loaded when the widget is opened. Because you tried dragging the actual HTML file into Safari, and noticed it still didn't work, this shows that the third plugin-loading method is somehow broken on your machine.
On possible solution is to drag an alias of FlightTracker's web plugin ("FlightTrackerComboBoxPlugin.plugin") into your ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder and see if that works.
If it does, then you'll have to do the same workaround for any widget that uses a web plugin.
Either way, something has broken in your copy of WebKit, but besides reinstalling the system, I'm not sure if there's another solution.

  • Standard widgets won't launch

    Hi,
For some reason some of my widgets (which are enabled in the Widget Manager) won't launch. Morever, they have generic widget black icons (maybe this is okay thugh). When I click on them I get the Basso beep as if there's an error.
    The widgets in question are:
    Business
    Flight tracker
    Translation
    Unit Convertor
    World Clock
Any idea what could be going on? I've repaired permissions already.

    Hi,
    I've fixed it.
Sadly it takes some effort to fix.
I installed Tiger onto an external partition then dragged the faulty widgets across from the new install to the old one and they work again now.
What's interesting is that the old widgets that had not been working had a .wdgt extension whereas the new replacing ones didn't

  • Dashboard widgets showing missing plugin icons

A couple of my Dashboard widgets - notably Flight Tracker and Unit Converter - appear with the missing plugin icons and do not work. How do I fix this?

Don, this can happen if you accidently overwrote these widgets (which should have been pre-installed with your machine) with PowerPC versions from an older Mac. Did you use migration assistant to transfer your files over to your new machine (and if so, could you have accidently copied over these widgets)?
Unfortunately, the only solution is to 1) reinstall OS X or 2) use Pacifist to extract the widgets from your OS X install disks.
