Flip clock effect in InDesign?

Hi all,
I'm trying to achieve a flip clock effect in InDesign and export it as a SWF file. I've looked through all the options in the Animation palette and there isn't one that come close. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Trish

Hi Steve and Silkrooster,
Thanks for your reply. I should have been clearer about what the flip clock effect was! It's exactly what Silkrooster has described. I believe it's also been used at airports for the flight timetables, before LEDs were used. According to Wikipedia, it's called a split-flap display (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Split-flap_display)
Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of Flash Professional 5 at work. I'll ask around and see if anyone's got a copy of it.
What I was hoping to do was to integrate it into the existing artwork and exporting it all straight from InDesign. Any suggestions/advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Trish

  • Flip clock effect with a text

Hi, I have a little problem.
I really like "flip clock effect" (you can see it in this video at the end with words "Your Gateway To The World Of Creativity"). Can you, please, help me? How can I make this effect in Adobe After Effects CS6?
    Tank you everyone!

Well, it says that the project file is available for download... Otehrwise this is as simple as animating the rotation of a 3D layer...

  • Flip Clock Counter Effect?

I have seen Apple use an effect in their keynote presentations where they have a retro looking flip clock counting up whatever stats they happen to be talking about at the time. For example, they use an animated counter that looks like one of these clocks:
    http://www.ilounge.com/images/uploads/photo-flip-clock-1.jpg
Has anyone seen this effect and do you know how to reproduce it?

It's not a Keynote effect, and I'm not sure what app they used to do this. I was thinking maybe it was built into some other software and created as a QuickTime movie, but I can't find the other app that would have created it.

  • Can Adobe Illustrator match inner bevel effects of inDesign and Photoshop?

Can Adobe Illustrator match or simulate inner bevel effects of inDesign and Photoshop? If it is possible, please explain how to get a soft inner bevel on type or vector shape in Adobe Illustrator CS4 that can be set up to be identical (or, at least, very close) to the layer styles of PS and the type/fill/stroke/object effects of ID. So far, I have not been able to achieve the same look with 3D extrude and bevel in AI. I want a solid red object with a soft 16 point white-tint highlight and a soft 16 point black tint shadow. If it is not something that is possible with 3D extrude and bevel settings, this something that must or could be done manually with the gradient mesh tool?

I’ve vectorized everything except the 3D red portion.

  • Error 0xc000007b when starting After Effects or Indesign

On my Samsung Laptop (Windows Home Premium 64 bit) I get error 0xc000007b when I try to start After Effects or Indesign. Please advise me.

Your installation has a couple Windows components missing. Usually msvcr100.dll and/ or msvcr80.dll. These are part of Microsoft C/C++ Redistributable runtime libraries. They likely can be downloaded from Microsoft, a repair of your ID installation, going to the Install/Uninstall part of the Control Panel and selecting the Microsoft C/C++ Redistributable runtime libraries icon/text and seeing if it has a repair option, etc.
Worse case is likely uninstalling ID, running the Cleaner Tool for you ID version, and reinstalling.

  • Flash Flip Clock Timer

    Hi all,
I am looking to develop a flip clock timer to place on a
company website to show when some software will be made available
(basically a release count down timer). I have seen a similar style
of what I am looking to do
    here.
Although the one I want to create should count down not display the
    time.
The reason for my post is I have no idea where to start and
was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to a
tutorial or provide a small sample fla.
    Kind regards
    David.

that's going to require some advanced scripting and i don't
know of any tutorials. i made something similar with numbers
    flipping like an old-time scoreboard.
you'll need to tween the _yscale and _y property of the
number lower halves to give the appearance of flipping
    numbers.

  • Photo stroke effects in InDesign?

I'm creating an annual report in InDesign and I'm placing a photo on a page. I'd like the photo to have a ragged edge effect, like you could achieve in Illustrator with a box that has a torn edge brush stroke.
However, there seems to be no brush effects in InDesign, and I'm not able to add that brush stroke in Illustrator either, for whatever reason.
    Any tips?

    Thanks for your contribution.
You technique is quiet simple and less nefarious than mine ;-), but the pros of my technique are that you can use any image (you can scan a torn piece of black paper or use anything "real") in order to produce a more realistic ragged frame, and, in addition it will look less "mechanical".
    here's the result:
    A detail:
Just in case, I got the ripped paper image there : http://pandoraicons.deviantart.com/art/1314x2212-Ripped-Paper-Texture-72053408
I just select the white backgroud, invert the selection - convert to path (1.0 tolerance) - save as a psd file

  • Scale effects in indesign Cs5

    Hi Everyone,
    I have some artwork with various shadows. Some of the artwork needs to be adapted large format. I need to scale the effects in indesign with the object, but the shadow stays the same size. I have checked my indesign prefs and made sure the General options are;
    Object Editing
[tick] Prevent Selection of Locked Objects
    When Scaling:
    [selected] Adjust Scaling Percentage
    Any ideas?
    Lister

    I never scale effects, myself.
But I used to work in a large format output service. There's no reason you have to prepare the file at full size. They can scale the output from your original, if that makes life simpler.
Here's my take on shadows. The size of the shadow is related to the distance of the object off the surface on which the shadow is projected and is independent of the size of the object (once upon a time I was a physics major). making the shadow larger or smaller tells the viewer that the object is further away or closer to the surface. In my opinion, the best way to deal withthis is to define the shadows as part of the object style, and edit the style if you want to change the size of the shadow.

  • Scaling Effects in InDesign

    Hi'
Can I scale effects in Indesign in a grouped object?

Yes, you can scale most effects if you have 'adjust scaling percentage' set in your General prefs. This doesn't include drop shadow or gradient feather though.
As a workaround, check out the free LayoutZone plugin to export an area to InD file which you can then place and scale.

The Flip looks appears to require manual time adjustment rather than pulling the date and time information from the local network, either by setting it through options on the clock function, or through the Options - Date & Time menu.
My Desktop Manager keeps asking, when launched, an update to the same Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish languages.  How do I turn it off?

I'll try to answer to some of your questions.
The Media Card is according to the OS verison on the BlackBerry. The model doesn't really matter.
Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.4.xxx".

  • Can't use effects in InDesign in document with 3+ pages. Why??

Any time I try to increase the number of pages included in an InDesign file to 3+, none of the effects work. I've tried creating the effects (i.e. transparency) on an object in a 1-page document (which works fine) and then copying that object over to the 3+ page document. As soon as I do, the effects disappear.
Is this normal? Is there a limit to the number of pages to that you can have in a document if you want to include effects?

To answer Peter Spier's question, I don't believe I have any non-adobe plugins. I didn't add any myself, that I'm aware of.
Willi Adelberger, to answer your questions,
The imaging trouble seems to occur when I import images via File>Place. When that wasn't working, I tried opening the image up in Illustrator, and then copying it directly into InDesign, which worked better. I'm assuming this has something to do with raster pixels vs vector paths?
I believe I'm talking about raster pixels. When I increase the scale of the image in InDesign, I believe it's messing with the raster pixels, causing a loss of clarity. This might be due to an error on my part-how do you increase the scale of an image in InDesign using vector paths vs raster pixels?
And yes, the effects disappear on both objects in InDesign and both imported and copied images
Update on the effects: When I printed the document, the images showed up on the printed copy, even though they weren't reflected in the doc on my computer.
Further Update: Some time later, the effects showed up in the program. At the moment, the effects are still visible in the InDesign program, regardless of the page count, so it seems that the issue has resolved itself.  I have no idea why they suddenly started showing up.

  • Applying effects in InDesign File

When I apply an effect to my InDesign file, the grayscale photography in the fie automatically gets screened back to 50%. Why is this happening? It does not do this with a cmyk image.

Please remove the autoquote and personal information from your email responses.
ID does not support Grayscale profiles and puts the image on the Black plate of the CMYK working space using wahtever numbers are saved in the file. this can result in a image that is either lighter or darker than you expect looking at the image in Photoshop. The addition of transparency forces ID to display the preview accurately according to the separations, so some shift could become apparent. For the absolute most accurate grayscale conversion, create a color settings file in Photoshop that uses the Black Ink channel of the destination CMYK working space in in ID. To do that, make sure the "more Options" has been selected in the edit color settings dialog in Photoshop, then choose Load Gray from the Grayscale dropdown, and finally choose the CMYK profile you want to use.
