Flip Video

I have the Flip Ultra and cannot get any video on my .mac gallery. I import the video into iMovie 6, select share as Quicktime, full quality, then open the file in iMovie 08, export it to .mac gallery and -no video. I am hoping Sheila (5/26/08-discussions: macbook) reads this and can give step-by-step directions. Thank you, Linda

Linda, could you please share how you export from Imovie HD and then open with Imovie 8? I tried exporting with quicktime too but I can't open the file with Imovie 8; the name of the file is gray. Thanks

  • How to save Flip video files to external hard drive (and need new vid camera rec)?

I am trying to back up my Flip videos from my MacBook OS X 10.5.8 on to my external hard drive. They will not drop & drag directly from the flipshare software and I did locate all the mp4 files in my finder under "All Videos" where I think I can copy them over but they are not organized by title or anything and I only want to back up the clips I've edited and the movies I've created, not all the raw footage.
I'm wondering if I'm going to have to import all of these files into iMovie in order to do this in a way that will be helpful? that seems like it will take forever since *I think* you have to do them one at a time and I have almost 2 years of footage of my kids...Is there a quick way to import video into iMovie?
Side bar, anyone know of a good video camera that is small & easy like Flip but not part of a phone? My flip has died & since Cisco is abandoning the brand, I need something new.
    Thank you!

  • Capturing Flip Video to Final Cut Express Will not launch Flip Video

I have done this many times before. I am using Final Cut Express and I am plugging my Flip Video camera into my MacBook Pro and the Flip Video software does not launch. It does not seem to be the
Flip Video software that is the problem. I have upgraded the Flip Video software. The prompt I get says Flip Video quit unexpectely. I have no idea what is going on. I get a huge log of computer terms which I do not understand. Any ideas? Wish I knew more.
Here is a screen shot of what I am getting after I attempt to open Flip Video Share Capture etc./Users/Tim/Desktop/Screen shot 2010-08-04 at 11.36.11 PM.png

The problem is with your Flip Video software. It is launching but then crashing - that's what the message means:
The prompt I get says Flip Video quit unexpectely.
"Quit Unexpectedly" is a nice way to say "Crashed".
You could try trash the Flip Software.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
If that doesn't help you need to contact the makers of the Flip software.

  • Small Flip video AVI files - can preview in Organizer but not Elements

    Hi all,
I just spent $110 to buy Adobe Premiere Elements 9.  I installed it to my Dell Vostro 1520 Intel Dual Core 2.2 GHz, running Windows 7 Pro.
I have a few small (5-10 seconds each) Flip video .AVI files (standard definition) to use for learning.
To learn, I brought the little .AVI files into Adobe Organizer, and can now double-click on each thumbnail and see the video play clearly, no problem, in the Organizer preview window.  All well and good!
Next I created a new Project in Premier Elements, and used the Add Media button to reference the same little .AVI files.  But when I attempt to preview them in Premier Elements by double-clicking on a thumbnail, I instead see a green/teal-colored rectangle where the video should show in the preview window, although I can hear the audio fine.
Can anybody help me?  Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Steve --
I have Windows Live Movie Maker.  It offers many of the same features as Adobe Premiere Elements 9, but not all of them.  For example Premiere Elements 9 offers Picture-in-Picture, nicer titling features, etc., etc.  That's why I've just shelled out $110 to buy Premiere Elements 9 (whereas Windows Live Movie Maker is totally free if you have Windows 7 Pro).
Windows Live Movie Maker is a PC-based video editing program, and it does not require and does not use use Apple Quicktime.
So I don't understand why you say Quicktime is a necessity.
But I do appreciate your reply and your thoughts.
I'm still looking for someone who has successfully used Adobe Premiere Elements 9 to edit Flip Ultra (standard definition) .AVI files.
    Thanks.

  • Flip video & Zen Video

I have a flip video cam that i record some stuff on and I'm trying to put those videos on the ZEN. Every format I have tried doesn't work. Flip video captures in AVI. I'm not sure if its compressed or uncompressed, I'm a newb in this. I have tried the video converter than to open up Creative Centrale and it won't even open the videos. Only VLC is working to play them back. Anyone done this sucessful or know a free program that will work for sure? Please help. Thank you

there are free video converters on the internet if you are searching for one. i'm not sure if i could mention this or what (sorry to the mods; just tell me if it's not okay) but i used to have Super Converter. you can google it. it converts different types of video and audio.. and it's free.

  • I can't get my flip video to download to iPhoto?

I cant get my flip video to download to iphoto.  When I plug it into the USB it reads the info like it there but I cant view the video?  Any suggestions?

I meant skipping iPhoto to start with, so when you get that message close out of iPhoto and look on the desktop and see if the icon is there for the camera. Then dig in and find the videos and drag one to the iPhoto icon in the Dock, thereby relaunching it. Might not work - you might get the same error message. If so, try dragging a movie onto the desktop and changing the name to .MOV instead of .AVI and dropping that onto iPhoto.

  • Flip Video conversion to DVD

This seems like it should be easy but apparently it is not. I made a short video on a Flip Video camera. The format is .avi. I want to burn it to a DVD and play it on my DVD player. I tried doing that and the DVD player would not play it -- incompatible format. Any idea what I need to do?
(I've worked quite a bit with audio, but as you can probably tell, I am inexperienced with video.)

I just recently got a Flip Ultra HD & have created a few dvd's of video taken with it by importing the video from iPhoto (have to change the image capture setttings for the Flip) into iMovie & then creating a dvd from there ... the dvd's have been perfect & play in a regular dvd player as well as on a Windows computer.

  • Blank Video to .Mac using Flip Video AVI

Imported video clips from my flip video camera just fine. Manipulated the clips in iMovie. But when I published it to .mac all you can see are the transitions and opening text. You can can the song I put in the background and I think you can hear the sound from the video, but no video images can be seen. Any ideas?

Video content that imports to iMovie '08/edits in a normal fashion but exports as a "screen" is normally in the Apple Animation (or Apple Video) compression format. Check the QT Player "Inspector" window with the clip loaded to determine the actual format in your case. The is a well known "bug" that has been present since iMovie '08 was initially released. The solution to the problem is to convert the video to one of the fully compatible compression formats -- e.g., DV, AIC, M_JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264.
How can I export to show at a conference from a PC?
By ensuring your source file is in an iMovie '08 fully compatible compression format.

  • I need to move some flip videos to external storage.  What kind works w/ macbook?

My macbook gives me a messages saying my startup disk is almost full.  To free up some memory I wanted to move some flip videos to an external drive.  What kind is compatible?

    MG,
What we might need to do is to change the question.  What computer do you plan to use the data on in the future?  For example, if you have a newer tower, just move the hard drive to the new tower.  If you want to use the data, what about an ethernet LAN to get the data over?  If you want to archive the data, how do you store the second drive?  What are your plans for the first drive?  If the new software will not recognize the old file type, the data must be exported.  Just getting files to another hard drive will not finish your journey.
As Allan said, knowing the exact model and year of your tower is important.  My suggestion is to find a user group near you.  Please post back with more information, including the name of a large city near you.
For example, our user group just experimented with a 1983 Apple IIc that predates the Mac.  It started right up, read files from 1984  and saved them from a 5.25" floppy to a 3.5" floppy.  That 3.5 floppy will go into a platinum G3 which will read PRODOS files using Apple File Exchange.  That G3, with a USB card, will allow saving the files to a USB flash drive.  But, somewhere along the way, some software has to read the file and convert it to data that is useable by current software.

  • Flip video-FCE Editing and .mov to WMV conversion

We have bought some new Flip video camcorders- i need to edit the footage and then convert them to WMV so that they can be embedded into a powerpoint presentation.
    Here's the problem:
-The flip videos are MP4 files
    - I have been importing these files into FCE, making the appropriate edits & then exporting the final sequence as a .mov file.
    - At this stage i have a .mov that i wish to convert into WMV so that it can be embedded into the presentation. This is where the problem occurs- The video converter goes very strange, fuzzy and as though its a tv is zero reception (signal).
I have been reading up and now realise that FCE does not recognise MP4 files, so i tried:
    - Converting the raw flip video footage from MP4 to .mov
-Bringing this .mov file into FCE
-Exporting the final sequence as an .mov file & then trying to convert to WMV
This is where another problem occurs:
The convertor is only recognising the audio and not the video. I have the audio from the sequence but not the video....
I have tried varies convertors so i know it is not my regestered convertor at fault (wondershare video)
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE BLEEEEEP IS GOING ON & WHAT A SOLUTION MIGHT BE?
    MANY THANKS!!!!!

    Hi David,
Thanks for your response. I have been trying this technique but it doesn't seem to work either. I immediately converted the footage from MP4 to .mov. I then imported the .mov file into final cut express for editing. Once the sequence was ready i exported as a .mov file and then used 'wondershare video convertor' to convert from .mov to WMV. This doesn't seem to solve the problem. In this case i can get the audio but not the visual....
I have taken your advice and downloaded 'flip4mac'. I have just currently got the free trial as i want to know if it works before paying. It seems to open up in quicktime player but wont allow me to export file and convert to wmv....
What exactly is flip4mac good for and how do you use it? I know it runs hand in hand with quicktime, so in this respect isn't your standard convertor?
Do you have any suggestions? Surely it shouldn't be hard?
    Many thanks,
    Ed

  • Plugging in flip video camera to ipad

When plugging in flip video camera to ipad it says "accessory uses too much power." Is there a way to do this to download videos on to my ipad to free up space on the flip video camera so I can shoot more videos with it?
    Thanks for all answers!

It says it is a Ultra HD with 4gb of storage for one hour of video. I would not have bought it if Costco wasn't blowing them out for $80. I am taking a trip to India and wanted to be able to leave my Sony handicam at home as this is much smaller and seems adequate for my needs. Thanks for all the responses. I read I might be able to use a powered USB hub in order to get it connected but haven't tried that yet. I have one but not at home it is in my studio so I will have to wait and see. Trip is not for another 2 weeks so I will give that a try.

  • How do I delete invisible MP4 files from my FLIP video camera attached by USB?

Hello!  I have a FLIP video camera attached to my MacBook by USB.  The FLIP has invisible files (old videos that I have previously deleted from the camera) that I want to delete.  I can see them in Finder using File/Find/Other/Invisible Files but I ****cannot**** seem to delete them.  The "move to trash" option is not available in Finder/File.  When I drag the files to trash they don't actually move.
    Help!
    Thank you.

The simplest way is to reformat or reinitialize the card using the menu on the camera.

  • Flip Video drift

I'm shooting a music video with a Flip Ultra HD video camera. I transferred the original audio track to a cd, and used that for playback through a portable cd player on site. Flip Video uses mp4 files which do not play on FCP so I used MPEG Streamclip to convert the clips to Quicktime with the Apple Intermediate Codec. In FCP, I have imported the audio track that was used for the cd into FCP, and they do not sync with the video that was shot with the cd player. Has anyone else come across this problem? Is it the conversion process that is doing it? Is it 29.97 vs. 30 FPS? Is it interlace vs. progressive? I converted the audio files of the original cd track to 48K and it makes no difference. Also, the mp4s from the Flip camera are 44K, and I've tried 48K conversion on them as well and there is still drift.
But, if I line up the tracks from the audio that was recorded from the microphone on the camera, that is recording the cd player, then those tracks do not drift against each other. It's just like the drift that used to happen when videos were shot on film, so it seems like a 29.97 problem. Is there anything I can do with the sequence setup to compensate for that if that is the problem?
    Any ideas?

You can use Compressor to convert the media to another frame rate/size. Just make sure of two things:
    1. Frame Controls are On and that you've selected an option of Better or higher in the retiming/reframing sections.
    2. You Enable audio encoding (not pass through) so that the audio is properly pitch-corrected.

  • Flip Video MinoHD USB problem

I bought the newest Flip Video MinoHD camcorder, excitedly took it out of the box and discovered that the USB arm will not fit into any USB Mac port that I own. It plugged into my wife's Dell without any difficulty. When I Googled the issue, I found dozens of posts about the same problem. Apparently the swing-out USB arm doesn't fit into the Macbook's tight USB at all. But I did find a simple solution. Radio Shack sells a part (#26-785), the Swivel USB Adapter for about $1.50.. It works perfectly to overcome this odd design defect of this latest Flip camcorder.

Tech support at Flip wanted me to download Flip Share Software. That imported the files OK but I couldn't figure out how to transfer the files to iMovie or iPhoto.
Decided to dump all the recent blurry files downloaded from the Flip to iPhoto, and re download the same files again from the camera in sets of 12 files at a time.(Instead of 50+ files at once).
That seems to have solved the low res problem.
