Flip4Mac and WMP

Hi: I downloaded the Intel version of Flip4Mac and also Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X, and I'm not able to play any video using WMP. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do, or might have done wrong, so that I can use WMP, or QuickTime for WMP sources? Thanks, Jerry.

QT and WMP are fighting to play the media.
Completely uninstall WMP.
Open Terminal.
Type sudo rm -rf
and drag the following files into your terminal window one at a time:
/Applications/Windows Media Player
/Library/Internet Plug-ins/Windows Media Plugin
/Users/<revjerry>/Library/Preferences/Windows Media Player Prefs
Hit the enter key and supply your admin password as needed/requested.
To be paranoid, reboot your Mac - we are dumping Microsoft software, after all.
Open a Windows Media file. It should play in Quicktime.

Flip4mac and wmp files

I have given up on trying to use Windows Media Player with Tiger, trashed it, and installed Flip4Mac. It opens quicktime, but how do I get it to play Windows Media Files? For example, from amazon, NBColympics.com, etc.?

As I'm sure you know, even with just the Windows Media Player [from Microsoft] the video files at nbcolympics.com will not play on a Mac. I tried to play 2 videos just now from that homepage and no luck.

ITunes 10.0.4.4 is stuttering at most HD videos (Win 8 64 bit). VLC and WMP works fine.

i have a problem while i'm trying to setup my iTunes on Windows. iTunes 10.0.4.4 is stuttering at the most of my HD videos (Win 8 64 bit). On VLC and WMP all Videos are playing fine. My 3 years old Macbook PRO with much less computing power plays all my videos smooth. Unfortunately since i have a lot of iTunes stuff and iDevices i have and i wnat to use iTunes also under Windows 8 (64bit). The impossibility to play my movies smooth annoys me

Flip4Mac and 10.4.8

Does anyone know of any issues between the latest version of Flip4Mac and 10.4.8? ive updated osx and now cant view wmv files in safari, ive reinstalled flip, with no joy.
Any suggestions?

Realplayer and WMP - video but no audio

I have installed the latest version of realplayer and Windows Media PLayer - they both play video with no problem but not sound. I get no error notices and everything seems to be working exactly as it should, its just that nothing comes out of the speakers - there is also no sound when playing online radio streams. I have tried everything I can think of - turning up the sound, restarting, reinstalling, verifying disk permissions and checking MIDI audio output (this option doesn't seem to be available). iTunes audio output works, as do system sounds but I can't seem to get any audio output from WMP or Realplayer. Incidentally, VLC player works fine.
Could any of this be related to iTunes 7 which has been crashing constantly? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Apple dropped playback support for .swf formats in QuickTime almost ten years ago.
Adobe Flash Player is the only way to view them.

Downloaded Flip4Mac and still can't get WMV file online to play - help!!

MSS2 is Windows Media Video Screen codec which, as noted, does not play on Mac with Flip4Mac or anything else I know of. You'll also fine Windows Media Video Image and those coming from PhotoStory won't play on Mac at all either. Not even the ancient WMP9Mac will play those.

There is no single codec for movies that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. An AVI movie may use one of the Indeo codecs (there are at least four that I'm aware of, none of which have been ported to Mac OS X) or one of the various flavors of DivX, among other possibilities. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the movies you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
If you want to try "hit and miss", Perian, which rolls several codecs into one package, might work. If not, you can try the codecs at http://www.divx.com/ and http://www.3ivx.com/ and see if one of them will work for you. Do not install both Perian and the DiVX/3iVX codecs at the same time.
If you just want to play the movie any way you can, you can also give this player a try:

Thanks for your reply. I tried that too and it still doesnt work. When I click on the wmv file it opens up in a new browser page. There is sound but no video.

Harmony between iTunes, Zune, and WMP Information

I use iTunes primarily for my music listening. All my music has been arranged, album sort titles changed to place albums where I want them, etc, and all my ID3 tags are 2.2, as it seems that that version is the only version where all my changed information and album art will stay in place.
Having a PC of course I also have Windows Media Player and Zune. With those two programs, the changes in iTunes are never acknowledged.
For example, I have soundtracks for all three Raimi Spider-Man movies, as well as The Amazing Spider-Man. I changed the sort title for TASM in iTunes to "Spider-Man 4", so it would show up right after the Raimi trilogy, rather than at the beginning of cover flow for "A". Zune and WMP will just place TASM at the beginning anyway.
If on Zune I try to change the settings for an album's sort title, it will then show up in the new order in that program, after Spider-Man 3, but going into iTunes, I now see that TASM has changed its ID3 tags to 2.3, which throws everything out of order and deletes my album art, etc.
Is there any sort of way to adjust settings on WMP and/or Zune so they reflect the ID3 tags and info changes done in iTunes, so that when I want to use one of those two programs, my entire music library will show up identically everywhere?

iTunes seems to work happily with id3v2.3 for me, not that I go in for changing tags that often. Problems do seem to arise sometimes when a file has both an id3v1 and an id3v2.x tag. iTunes doesn't necessarily update both and has been known to update one and then read back the unchanged data from the other.
You can use the convert ID3 tags > None option a few times, then conver ID3 tags > v2.3 though that will lose any embedded artwork. My script CreateFolderArt before and after the update would save artwork images in the album folders and then restore them.

How can i play music in windows media player and wmp format?

I am trying to preview songs off online music stores such as barnes and noble and borders stores. but i am unable to do so. I get the message "mime type aplication don't have a plug-in intalled for this mim type, it can't be displayed". i downloaded flip4mac and tried playing to but it doesn't work. All the online previews I have com across aren't playing on my mac. Help!

Download and use StuffIt Expander to open the file; if you choose to throw away Windows Media Player later, press the Option key while emptying the Trash.
The Windows Media content in question may contain DRM, in which case there is no Mac software that will play the songs.

Quicktime 7.5.5 won't play .avi on MacBook Air w/flip4mac and perian

I have .avi files that are Apple - Microsoft Video 1 codec. They play fine on an Intel based desktop using Tiger and Quicktime 7.5.5 without plugins. But won't work on my MacBook Air (white screen). Installing the Flip4Mac and Perian plugins didn't solve the problem. WRAW codecs play fine. "MacGenius" no help. Any thoughts?

I have experienced the same issue on my MacBook Air with Mac OS X 10.5.5 and QuickTime 7.5.5.
The video format is "Apple - Microsoft video 1" according to QT inspector.
The AVI file plays fine on a MacBook Pro (Early 2008), MacBook Pro (Mid 2007), and a MacPro (1st Gen). All of these have the very latest software updates from Apple as of today (10-10-2008).
I erased the MBA and installed the original 10.5.1 from the restore DVD. *The video played back correctly*. Then I applied all available Apple updates (which includes QT 7.5.5) and the video only displays a White screen in the QuickTime player. (No other third party applications were installed.)
I have not backtracked yet to determine if it video fails as soon as QT 7.5.5 installed.

Questions on Flip4Mac and MS Windows Media player for Mac

If one installs "flip4mac" sofware, the plugin is installed. Will there be a icon or an application file for this software and an uninstaller file in the application folder? Do I have to activate the plugin before I use the web site to play the "wma" or "wmv" files? or it is not necessary to do that once it is installed? To uninstall, do I activate the "uninstall" file or the icon in the application folder?
As per Dave, in the Maxfixit, he says he uninstalled and went back to using media player. Does the Microsoft WM player handle DRM files to play? If so why Craig is saying that Flip4Mac is a "MUST HAVE"? Why not install the Microsoft WM player instead of Flip4Mac?
If one wants to install Microsoft WM player, what is latest version available for Mac? and where can I get it from and install it? MS WM player for Mac ver 9 comes in .bin or .hqt formats not .dmg format. Does the .bin format be installed by doule clicking on the file? or you need "stuffit" prog to expand and install the same?

A Flip4Mac application folder is created in the Applications folder. An uninstaller is included in the folder along with the Flip4Mac player application.
Flip4Mac currently does not play files that are protected by the MS DRM. However, if you use WMP on an Intel Mac you will have to run the browser in Rosetta because the WMP browser plug-in is not a universal binary. I'm not sure that the Mac version of WMP will play DRM protected files.
Yes, Stuffit is required to unpack the archive. You can download Stuffit Expander from www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com or www.allume.com.

Flip4Mac and how to use it

I recently downloaded it with a view to using WMP content but on clicking the green WMV icon nothing happens, so i am not sure how it works. I tried to download WMP 9 for Mac and all that happens is that iMovies opens when the download completes?? Anyone know hopw it works? Thanks!

Flip4Mac works, for the most part, invisibly for the user. When you download, and install it, you are able to open WMV files on your hard drive, or go to sites that stream WMV, and Flip4Mac will automatically play back the video content. This is subject to some occasional exceptions. Some sites have weird, unsupported codecs, and those won't play, and if you run into any DRM (digital rights media) files, you won't be able to play those either. But, for the most part, Flip4Mac is a most essential plug in.
You are able to go into the F4M preferences and adjust a few settings, but you should be able to stream standard wmv content right outta the box.

Nomad Jukebox Zen NX and WMP

As many other devices and users, I have problem after upgrading to WMP. Whenever I connect my trusty Nomad Jukebox Zen NX (30GB) I get message saying "your device is using an outdated driver that is no longer supported by windows media player". I have latest fw and drivers so that is not an issue. By checking Creative pages it seems as they won't be creating new drivers for this device meaning I'm stuck.
I don't use Creative tools to rip and feed player because I lost CD few years ago and since I reinstalled Windows. I was not able to get software from support then so I decided to stick to WMP. Now, MS doesn't won't to support it as it seems.
Are there any alternati'ves or suggestions?

What I did was to uninstall WMP, rescan library to add new albums that were originally scanned with WMP and that did the trick as I was rolled back to WMP0. I would however wish to have working solution with WMP.
