Flip4Mac incompatible with iPhoto?

I downloaded the Flip4Mac plugin to use with QuickTime, but it somehow conflicts with my use of iPhoto... iPhoto crashed and told me it was a problem with Flip4Mac, so I deleted F4M and it solved the problem. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?

You could try to upgrade to an earlier iPhoto '11 version, since you are running Snowleopard.
iPhoto '11 should still be available as part of the boxed retail version of iLife '11.

IPhoto '09 seems to be incompatible with Mountain Lion

I am a long-standing major fan of Apple computers. This is because they allow me to work easily with images. I am an art historian and museum curator. My professional life is entirely about images ... or rather about images attached to data.
For years I have been accumulating and categorising images using iPhoto. It has been the most wonderful tool. A clear, simple interface. The capacity to attach searchable free-text metadata. Wow, that simple feature makes this the most powerful application of any I have ever used.
The problems started for me when iPhoto '11 first came out. This removed the capacity to compare photos side by side in full screen mode, a brilliant, simple and obviously powerful feature. As a consequence I did not upgrade, but stuck with iPhoto '09 (8.1.2).
Now I discover that there seems to be a bug which means iPhoto '09 is not compatible with Mountain Lion. Whenever you go into Preferences the computer seizes up and has to be hard-booted. An Apple genius was unable to fix this for me. I've reinstalled the entire operating system to try and fix the problem, but it remains. I gathered from a discussion thread that it was simply an incompatibility with Mountain Lion.
As a consequence I have purchased iPhoto '11 (9.4.1) and Aperture, which I was advised by the Apple Genius would be much better than iPhoto. I have converted my several iPhoto libraries. But I just cannot get anything resembling the clean functionality of iPhoto '09. Everywhere I am cluttered up with gadgetry which I cannot remove. It just is no longer possible to view photos with their basic metadata in a clear and simple way.
The only way I can see forward is to downgrade to Lion, reinstall iPhoto '09, and live the rest of my life without ever upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Forgive the long rant. I am sure people will be irritated and say I should not be using an application designed for holiday snaps for professional purposes. But that is not how I see it. iPhoto is part of the fundamental suite of utilities which makes an Apple computer what it is. That means it ought not to be designed with a single purpose in mind. We are creative people. We use our machines as it suits us to use them. Apple became what it is because it understood that.
If anyone can point me in the direction of a image organiser which allows me to store photos with associated searchable free-text metadata, add dates of my own choosing to the images and to do this in a way which integrates with other applications as well as iPhoto, I'd be so very grateful.
Otherwise I think it's going to have to be the downgrade.
Or could this even be the moment come to abandon Apple? I'm due for a new machine. For the first time in 25 years and six Apple computers I'm going to be considering the competition. Any helpful suggestions would be very gratefully received.

Just in case anyone else reads this having had the same problem, the answer is (as Terence says) to delete anything which might cause the computer to try to link to a MobileMe account. My iPhoto libraries had old MobileMe photo galleries which I hadn't bothered about in years. It seems these caused the iPhoto Preference pane to attempt to access MobileMe whenever I opened it. This of course it could not do because the service is defunct and so the computer simply beachballed. In order to remove the MobileMe galleries I found I could only do it if I first disconnected my wireless network. All MobileMe references are gone now (I hope) and everything seems to be working well.

Why won't some photos or videos sync to my iPad when they work fine with iPhoto and iTunes? Other photos taken with same camera sync fine from iPhoto while certain events are inexplicably incompatible. I've recently foundvthecsame occurrence with certain mp3s and videos from iTunes.

IPhoto 2 permanently DISABLED by presence of CD with iPhoto 5 library

This is a nightmare!
Sharing some of my photos with my Mom's older Mac caused her iPhoto to shoot itself in the foot, so that it no longer recognizes her own iPhoto library.
The computers involved:
MINE: Brand-new iBook G4, running 10.4.3, iPhoto 5.0.4
MOM: Old G4 tower, running Panther (10.3.9, I think?), iPhoto 2.0
What happened:
1. In iPhoto 5, I selected all pictures in one album, chose "burn disk" under "Share" menu, and created a disk.
2. Inserted disk into Mom's G4. iPhoto automatically bounced in dock, tried to load library.
3. Error message; she quickly force-quit. We looked at the disk more closely and realized that it was not simply a batch of jpgs, but was an iPhoto library.
4. She started up iPhoto. Computer announced that HER iPhoto default library had been modified and would no longer work with the earlier version of iPhoto.
5. Restarted computer. Now, every time she tries to open iPhoto she gets the error message that her iPhoto library is incompatible with her earlier version of iPhoto. HOWEVER....
~ If she accesses that very iPhoto library from another Mac on her network, which has the exact sameversion of iPhoto (2.0), that computer loads the library just fine!!!!
~ We tried renaming that iPhoto to something else and starting iPhoto again. It gives us the "welcome to iPhoto" message, acts as if it's starting from scratch, asks if we want to find an existing iPhoto library or create a new one. If we say "create a new library" iPhoto creates a new library, but immediately gives the same error message -- the library will not work with her earlier version of iPhoto 2. Even though it was created by 2 just a few seconds before!
What We Have Tried:
~ Removing the CD with the iPhoto 5 library and rebooting. No joy.
~ Loading Mom's iPhoto 2 library on a G4 laptop with iPhoto 2. That works.
~ Copying Mom's iPhoto 2 application from the G4 laptop to the G4 tower. That does NOT work; it gives the same error message.
~ Using Find File to locate every single file modified in the last day and seek for any that were changed. This yielded an iPhoto .plist file found in the iPhoto library folder. We moved that to the trash and restarted iPhoto, but again, same error message.
~ The iPhoto app does NOT show it's been changed in any way.
So what other weird preferences file or bit of code could be convincing her iPhoto 2 that its iPhoto 2 library is a 5, when her other computer's iPhoto 2 recognizes it? We need a fix immediately-- she is running a business and needs her photos! And I am not used to Apple products utterly disabling themselves for no good reason.

Did you try moving the file named "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" from the Preferences folder to the trash?

Macbook pro help with iPhoto

i have a macbook pro 10.9.5. and i can't open iPhoto, it gives me a pop up saying "you can't use this version of application iPhoto with this version of OS X" (i have a iPhoto 9.2.3)

iPhoto versions older than 9.5 are incompatible with Mavericks. Version 9 or later should be eligible for a free upgrade to the current version in the App Store.

Where can I find the "All Images" list? When I go to Finder - Pictures there is nothing there (just the new iPhoto library that is empty). They are not in the "All My Files" folder nor the Trash. Infocube A is getting updated from shopping carts DSO. I have added 3 new fields in SC DSO then cube transformations got inactive. I do not want 3 new fields in cube. we have report on DSO. Below is syntax error when checking transformations.
Error: In PERFORM or CALL FUNCTION "ROUTINE_9998", the actual parameter "SOURCE_PACKAGE" is incompatible with the formal parameter "DATA_PACKAGE".
3 New fields are available in tys_SC_1 but not available in tys_SC_1_full. I tried to insert 3 fields in tys_SC_1_full but still it is showing same syntax error. And more TYPE is availalbe tys_TG_1_full. This type does not have 3 fields.
Please advice.

I have resolved issue by addinng fields to data package. Issue is becasue of 4 fields in source and I have added only 3 fields in data package. Added one more field to data package and no syntax errors when checked.

I just updated to 10.9.3. I now cannot open Mail - it comes up with an error window and suggests it may be incompatible with this OS. What is the fix for this? Thanks

You would be wise to quit all apps, disconnect all peripherals and preferably delete all email accounts before upgrading.

Is there a major flaw with Iphoto in regards to organizing and backing up? And how should I proceed??
Here is my story. I have moved roughly 15,000 photos from 7 computers (4 PCs and 3 Macs - basically everyone's computer in the family) onto one external hard drive. The photos were taken by many different digital cameras, are sparsely labeled, and have the most random names and folders. There are a LOT of duplicates. MY MISSION - label and back them up.
The way I normally deal with photos/DATA is this: I plug my camera into my Mac and immediately think about organizing and backing them up. With "Preview" I look at photos (and decide which one I like), create a folder called "where-ever I took these photos" and drag them into that folder. The problem with Iphoto is that you have no ability to control folders, unlike many other applications.
For example, in Itunes you can rename an artist, or even an album, and it will automatically appear in an updated folder. If you alter a photo in Photoshop, it makes you save it is a new file. In Iphoto you cannot make the same "root level" changes without making duplicates. From what I understand, you can place photos into an Album and then export that album (which makes duplicates). Iphoto will rename each duplicate file and then place it in the correct folder. The problem here is I have no idea where the original is to delete it.
Basically I want to create folders called "Trip to Italy 2003" or "Rachel's Wedding" and place all the photos associated with that event in those folders. The problem I run into is that I have a bunch of duplicates. I have heard of a program called Duplicate Annihilator which has gotten favorable reviews. If I import them into Iphoto all the photos are placed in random named folders. I say random because some of the photos were taken on cameras that didn't have the date set correctly. Hence some of my photos will appear in a labyrinth of folders called "Modified / 2001 / Roll 17 / DCM482 / Image25874654.jpg"
I am totally willing to wipe my Iphoto library clean and start again if there is a way to organize the photos as described above. Eventually I will take these folders and save them on a data DVD.

You do not need to delve into the folders within the iPhoto Library via the finder to access any photo. That is all done within iPhoto itself. If you need a photo for use outside of iPhoto read Terence Devlin's treatise on file access. iPhoto is a DAM application - Digital Asset Management, not a folder manager. There's a big difference. You can use keywords, album and smart albums to organize your photos.
If you still have the original files you might consider what I do. I rename each file with the date it was taken using the international date format: YYYY-MM-DD-001.jpg. You can download the demo version ofMedia Expression and automatically rename each folder of photos with the EXIF date and a sequential number. This makes chronological searching and sorting much easier both in iPhoto and the Finder.
If you want to not only manage the photos but the folders then Expression Media will let you do both. It will let you rename files after being imported into a catalog, move them between folders, add ITPC metadata to the files, create virtual albums called Supplemental categories, and much, much more. I use it as my primary DAM and iPhoto for special projects like books, slideshows, calendars, etc.

Using Adobe Bridge file structure with iPhoto (latest version)

I use Adobe Bridge and have all my pics in named folders in Pictures/PICS/Folder Names. Inside the PICS folder is the iPhoto Library (only a few pics in it). Is there any way I can use the file structure I have set up with Bridge and iPhoto (latest) simultaneously? I really dont want to import (copy) all my pics into IPhot because I am pretty sure I will end up with two versions of each. I havent been able to manage pics manually the way I like to in older versions of iPhoto.

Here's some info to help you setup Photoshop for use with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:

Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

Is the K7N2 Delta (Nforce2 Chipset) incompatible with 200FSB??... Ive seen many problems when trying to upgrade the CPU, and use a 200FSB in various forums. So, why does it keep hanging/crashing?? Might it be not really supported even though it specify it does?

From most of the posts I've been reading about this issue, the users are trying to build their systems using Value RAM from various manufacturers such as Kingston or Corsair among others...this just isn't a reality anymore in the high speed world of components...the Delta boards require a lot of power and high speed memory nowadays and a lot of the users are just unaware of these facts...
Part time builders are the most susceptible to this as they build a system every few years and think that all of the 'old' rules apply to their situation...what 'should' be isn't anymore as we continue to design and produce faster products that require faster peripherals to support them...
Getting away cheaply has been designed out of most systems and this really stems from the CPU mfg's and how MB designers have to approach BUS speeds and the like...
CDM has it right that you need to dip a little deeper these days for good QUALITY memory and peripheral items to ENSURE that when you build your new PC that you minimize these issues from the get go...if not then you're going to have a good run at testing this RAM or that RAM to find one that is cheap and will still have the speed capability to keep up with your high end MB & components...
Apacer is a good example of this...they're moderately priced and they perform very well in the sandbox with most applications that you set before them...overclocking them can lead you down a problematic path but overall they're pretty flexible from what I've seen...
Most of us here know that Mushkin is pretty infallable and will take pretty much whatever is thrown at their modules...if not calling their CS dept gets you the kind of help that most companies only dream about providing...
All in all the 'line' has risen and it will rise again and you'll see a rash of users that will complain that "This should do what I want it to do" but as is most always the case, you'll find that they're trying to build an underpowered system that requires fast peripheral components and a lot of them just aren't willing to dish out the cash required for a great white box system...
Yes I agree that it's a scam from the companies to force us to spend more of our hard earned dollars but that is the way of the world now, albeit that it's unfortunate...if you're really good at building systems tho, you'll find that you can usually come up with a pretty mid-range priced system that will blaze thru all the latest games but that only comes with buying components to play trial & error with...much like I used to do in my Computer Store years ago...these days I don't do much of that, I just buy the good stuff and save my time...

All of the "MacBook" laptops are compatible with XP/Vista.
One thing to note is that BootCamp is currently in the beta version (at least until when OS X Leopard comes out), so you may have some minor problems installing and running windows, but they should be fine.
Another thing to note is since Vista craves a lot of CPU, RAM, HD and graphics, I would suggest you going to a MacBook Pro. I have heard that Vista does not run smoothly on computers with less than 2 GB RAM, nor does all of its features render well if you don't have a 128 MB graphics card. Increasing the MacBook's RAM to 2 GB may also significantly increase the performance.
Either way, the option is yours. All of them should work out fine, with perhaps a couple of firmware updates

John, since you seem quite familiar with the ABAP help and obsolete statements I'm now surprised what you were initially asking for.. .
Anyhow, below a sample coding with the table being passed as a USING parameter. Avoid using VALUE on the parameter (i.e. pass by value) unless you need a copy of the parameter. Otherwise this leads to a performance overhead (requirement to copy the parameter), especially for large internal tables.

P.S.: Update of my posting: Just read your one comment. Looks like your only problem was attempting to define the table type in the parameters section of the form routine. This doesn't work. If you don't have a type you could use a generic type (i.e. simply just say <i>using i_resbb type table</i>), but in general I would stick to strong typing unless you have a generic routine that must handle different table types. So simply refer to a table type from dictionary or that you defined in your program.
