Flip4Mac Intel Installation

Hi,
I tried installing the new Intel/PPC version of Flip4Mac on a iMac intel which has Quicktime 7.1.2 installed, but I get an error message saying that Quicktime 6.5.1 is not installed. What Gives?
David
PS. I also posted on the Quicktime Forum

Hi David,
ok, is the OS updated too (10.4.7)? If both QuickTime and OS are updated to the latest versions, I'd try to run OnyX 1.7.1 to verify and repair permissions, empty system caches and so on. Run all the optimization/maintenance options. Then reboot. Finally, reinstall Flip4Mac.
Let me know if it works.

  • Solaris 8 Intel Installation Error: No suitable hard drives found

    HI!
I was trying to install the free Solaris 8 Intel Edition from CD. All devices were recognized. Afterwards, however, I get the message that no suitable place was found to store the installation image. What should a hard disk look like in order to qualify for Solaris?
My system contains several hard drives. The first one, were I would like to install Solaris, is empty without any partitions. Under normal cicumstances (Linux, Windows), I would assume that this is the best possible case for a new operationg system...
    Best regards
    Klaus

    Klaus,
I am having the exact same problem as you. I have the official Solaris CDs from Sun, but am not able to install Solaris on my PC. Installation progresses quite far - including screen, keyboard, time configuration - but then fails saying that it can't find any suitable HDDs.
I too, have two HDDs, one with Windows XP on it, and the other completely blank. However the Solaris installation does not recognise either of them.
I've even tried dis-connecting the Windows HDD in case it may have interfered somehow, but it has no affect.
Please see me message titled 'Intel Installation - Identifying HDDs' which I posted on this forum on 10th November. I haven't received any help on this issue.
Where do we go from here?

  • HELP!! -- Solaris 8 10/01 (Intel) Installation Hangs My PC!!

I downloaded the Solaris 8 for x86 yesterday and burned them into CDs.
I have the following hardware configuration.
    - Intel i815E mainboard
    - Intel PIII 733
    - KingMax 256M 133MHz
    - Maxtor 30G hard disk
    - Acer 50X CDROM
The inistallation initially gave me a warning.
WARNING: ACPI Table not in Reclaim Memory
And it gave more warning during the installation process:
Resource Conflicting -- Both devices are added
    The conflicting devices are:
    - PNP0C01
    - ISY0050
Unfortunately, I don't know what they are. :(
However, these are not the whole story. The installer went ahead to
let me fdisk my 30G hard disk.
I accepted the "Solaris Default" and answered Y to the question "Can
swap slice start at the beginning of the disk?". Immediately, the
system hangs there but the keyboard is responsive that I can type
    anything I want.
In addition, I use the 512M as swap as suggested by the installer.
Can anyone help me with this situation? I have tried installing this
version of Solaris for several times but with no luck. :S
Any insights are highly appreciated! Thanks!
    - Peter

Try this workaround for your problem and let me know the outcomes.
Solaris bootstrap uses Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)
for device configuration and MP interrupt routing.
    Try to disable your ACPI.
    Steps to follow:
    1) Use either eeprom(1M):
    # eeprom acpi-user-options=0x2
    ( OR )
    * Modify the Device Configuration Assistant (DCA) boot floppy.
Manually edit the /boot/solaris/bootenv.rc to add:
    setprop acpi-user-options 0x2
In this method is applicable for at the time of Solaris 8 installation.
DCA for Solaris 8 10/01 download it from this URL:
    http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/dca_diskettes/
The ACPI conflicts problem is not fixed and is resolved by disabling ACPI.
In the example you gave, while it is annoying, it probably does no harm. In
some cases it causes duplicate devices to show up, like two floppy or IDE
drives - neither of which work properly. Disabling ACPI is the safest way
to insure there will be no problems if this message shows up.
    2) Reboot the System.
    Hope it helps.

  • Solaris 8 Intel Installation - stuck at initial network setup

    Hi !
We installed Solaris 8 Intel (Europe/ger) on a PIII and are stuck in the
network config. It asks for systemname, ip,subnet, domain, dns.. (our settings are ok for sure)
but when whe click the confirm-button it reads some error message
    (translated):
'Error during system configuration. Go back and check your settings'
    An interesting fact:
The net seems to work, the machine's got its ip and we can ping it from outside.
WE JUST CAN'T FINISH THE SETUP TOOL (Interactive Install).
What we already did is configure the gatway in etc/defaultrouter, and
with route add default. The router is in the same network, and it's ok.
    System:
    PIII/700 on
    ASUS P3BF
SCSI Adaptec 29160 (driver found on http://www.adaptec.com)
    ATI Rage Pro 3D
    3C905B FastEthernet-XL
(By the way, the NIC works fine, didn't expierience any problems)
    Thank you in advance !

Oh. One more thing. You may want to install this system
as a standalone system, i.e. do NOT configure it as a networked
system. Then, once all installation is complete, then go back and
    change to network config.
    Try this. Thx. Tushar Patel.

  • Solaris 8 (Intel) Installation problems

I have not been successful to install Solaris 8 (Intel version).I am
installing from the (Install CD) and I get to the Solaris Boot screen that
    says:
Select one of the identified devices to boot the Solaris Kernel and
choose F2 to continue. Solaris identifies 2 IDE Disk Drives (on Primary Controller),
a third IDE HDD (Secondary master) and the CD ROM as a slave on the Secondary
Controller. When I choose the CD ROM as the Boot disk, the system hangs
    forever!. Any suggestions?
P.S: The installation CD contains the following:
    image = 550MB
    (.VOLUME) : 47 bytes
    ADD_INSTALL_CLIENT: 54.5KB
    BOOT: 0 bytes
    COPYRIGHT: 5.3KB
    MODIFY_INSTALL_SERVER = 3.37KB
The total of these files is : 93KB
Dose this seem correct, having in mind that the image file is 550MB
    Thanks,
    Kamel Elchazli

At the "(b)oot or (i)nterpreter" prompt, type:
    b kadb -v
This loads the Solaris kernel under kernel debugger (kadb) control.
Apparently your system crashes with a kernel panic, and when kadb
is loaded, kadb will catch the kernel panic error and drop you into the
debugger so that you can read the panic messages.
The "-v" option enables verbose kernel messages, which might be
    useful to diagnose the problem.

  • Solaris8 Intel Installation Troubles..

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Solaris 8 for Intel on an old HP Vectra VL8i (400 Mhz, 128MB ram). Currently this machine has a screwed up install (*my fault* ) of Linux Mandrake 7.2. I downloaded the Solaris8 binaries off of sun.com and was trying to make a boot diskette on my 2000 adv. server box to then create the bootable .iso cd images (set of 3 cds for install). Once that was done, I had planned to start the install on my Vectra (the one running Mandrake). However, now I realized the "format a: /s" option is no longer supported under 2000. Its not even an option listed under the format help info screen. So I'm in a bit of a pickle...I'm trying to figure out how to get the necessary files on a formatted floppy diskette to make the diskette bootable with CD ROM driver support. I know I need to copy an autoexec.bat, config.sys, and setup the mscdex file to make this work, but I get lost in the details of it all.
    A little later,
OK, I reinstalled Mandrake on it and its working fine now that way I can start from a clean point. I burnt 2 CDs of the first installation CD for Solari8 intel to test this with..
According to the informational instructions at Sun.com they recommend using "winzip" to unzip the archive and Adaptec EZ CD Creator to burn a "bootable .iso CD image". Well, I have both those programs and so when I unzipped the .iso file for the installation CD it appeared on my desktop as an adaptec ez cd icon. I opened it up, selected bootable CD (according to cd creator help file to make a bootable cd I need to copy a bootable floppy over to it..), it prompts me for my boot floppy, I insert it works, and creates 2 boot files. Then I add the solaris8.iso for the install cd, and burn the CD. Now, I take it over to my HP Vectra, pop it in, power on, and it loads the oak cd rom driver and sets my floppy as A: and my cdrom as X: I can now enter X: and see the solaris-8.iso file but can't do anything with it.....
FYI: I have set the CDROM to boot before the HDD in the bios.
My next attempt after reading your post was to just extract the .iso file from the zip archive and then burn it in ISO format as is...no bootable CD junk per Adaptec's Help file. I do that and pop it in and my computer does nothing, just boots up to linux mandrake because it doesn't start the install when it hits the cdrom first....again, just has the solaris8 install .iso file on it, and this time nothing else on the CD.
My question is, is there something I am missing regarding the install .iso file? Do I have to extract that to something? Windows views it as an archive.... I have scoured the sun docs and solaris intel install information and not much is on this except "extract using winzip and burn a bootable .iso using adaptec easy cd creator with the .iso file you extracted from winzip". I'm really confused at this point...I know I was trying to load it on top of a Linux Mandrake OS, but it had 4.2 GB of free space. I can't even get the installation process STARTED!!! LOL!
    Thanks for any help...
PS...I think something is messed up with my HDD now. I went through fdisking my non-dos partitions (linux mandrake) and formatting the HDD from a boot floppy to see if this might help. It didn't. However, now there is supposedly nothing on my HDD. However if I just let it boot up it comes up to a "grub" shell, and has only limited functionality (like 20 commands). So there is obviously something still left on my HDD.
Oh also, before that I tried using the first Solaris OS .iso file not the INITIAL install .iso I was previously using. This is the .iso you mentioned I should try to use. I am still stuck at the same place...it won't start the install. I don't know if its because something is incorrect with my HDD or if its something I'm missing regarding copying the .iso onto the CD to start with....ANY, and I do mean ANY help is greatly appreciated here!

Hi, I'm not sure that I understanded your actual problem correctly, but I think that your installation CD's, where you said are .iso files, you messed up. The ISO files are images, like HD partitions archived in one file for portability. You have to burn those images with burner which supports ISO images, in other words, burning software unarchives the ISO image while the burn process, so correctly burned CD contains all ISO images files and directories , not just one big ISO file. I think 'cdrecord' in Linux supports ISO images.
Sorry my bad english, its not my native language :)

  • Flip4Mac Intel

    Hi,
I tried installing the new Intel/PPC version of Flip4Mac on a iMac intel which has Quicktime 7.1.2 installed, but I get an error message saying that Quicktime 6.5.1 is not installed. What Gives?
    David

I quote from a moderator from the Flip4mac forums:
If you are having Flip4Mac 2.1.0.33 install issues on your Intel Mac you may have OS pre 10.4.7 installed.
Update your OS to 10.4.7. Also check to see if you need a firmware update which is also the case on some Intel Macs.
I recommend using the Combo Updater on Apple's site rather than Software Update for an OS update. I'd also recommend updating Quicktime to 7.1.2 on Intel if you haven't yet.
Remember to Repair Disk Permissions BEFORE and AFTER the OS install as well as Quicktime install.
You can now install Flip4Mac successfully.

  • Solaris 2.8 on Intel Installation Problem

When attempting to install Solaris on Intel 2.8, everythin g goes fine and the files are copied, but it fails at the end with the following message:
    Customizing system files
    - Mount Point table (etc/vfstab)
    - Network host address (etc/hosts)
Error: Could not copy file (tmp/root/etc/openwin/etc/devdata/SUNWaccel/monitors/pnp/edidgen.vda) to
    (/a/etc/openwin/etc/devdata/SUNWaccel/monitors/pnp/edidgen.vda)
Error: Unable to copy a temporary file to it's final location
I have tried this time and time again, should I disable PNP in my Bios or what could be the cause of my problems?
    Thanks in advance

Looks like the failure that you are having is when the install program is trying to copy the PNP moniter spec from the /tmp location to the /etc location. May be for some reason the edidgen.vda never got created in the first place.
Can you please mention the version of Solaris 8 you are installing and if you have a plug and play monitor.

    Hi!
I also had the same exact problem during the install. The only way that I could procede was to tell it that I didn't want to install networking. Now when I boot, it tries to load the elx0 driver (for my 3Com 3c509b) and brings the following message, "SIOCSLIFFFLAGS cannot assigm requested address." I have checked the Irq/IO setting in the hardware configuration agent and everything seems to be correct. To top it all off, once I logon if I enter "ifconfig elx0 192.168.1.2 up" then everything works fine. I tried to forceload the elx0 module in /etc/system to see if the module just wasn't loaded early enough but this did not help. Any ideas of what else I should check?
    TIA

  • Error when starting installation (Intel)

    Hi,
I am a hardcore rookie this the first time I have ever attempted to install Solaris any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I get through most of the boot process, I setp my default boot device but then when I hit F2 to contiune I get this error:

    HELP!!!!!!!!
    Thanks!!!
    Fred

Fred, what kind of hardware are you using and which version of Solaris are you installing?
My experience with the Solaris 8 intel installs seemed to show that often using the install with software Disk 1 or 2 works better that install CD. Your error message sounds like it's having problems with your hard drive ... of some kind. How big is your hard drive? Solaris 8 on Intel often has problems with real big drives that you need to get pretty tricky to get around.
Fill in some more details and someone will give you some hints! Hey, pain is fun, it shows your brain is still alive!
    Cheers, John

  • Installer.app crashes!

    Hi there,
    long-time lurker, first-time poster
I know the topic of installer.app crashes has been covered in numerous threads, but I just can't find any working solution!
It all started when I downloaded the flip4mac intel beta. I tried to install it and installer.app crashed. I thought it was cos this was a beta, so I tried again and it crashed so I just forgot about it
But now I've realised that installer.app crashes with everything I try to install!
I did the usual repair disk etc, and nothing. I deleted the com.apple.installer.plist file and still nothing. I tried pacifist and extracted installer.app from the tiger cd an still nothing.
Today though, I thought I'd try to re-install 10.4.7 manually and see if that helps. Amazingly, the 10.4.7 update package installed fine with installer, without crashing!
I thought this had fixed it but it still hasn't
here's a crash log from when I tried to install ncftp today.
    Many thanks for any advice/tips

You might try launching Installer from your Utilities folder and see what you've got.

  • Intel Tiger on an eMac (G4 - PPC)

    Hi there,
Will an iMac (Intel Model) Install Disk Tiger work on a G4 eMac? I'm looking at upgrading to Tiger and there's a copy on eBay - but it says Intel Mac version.
    Cheers

iLife's last retail release was made Universal, meaning it runs on PowerPC and Intel both. Any software which is Universal does that.
Included Mac OS X installer discs, Parallels and Boot Camp are among the very few software titles that will run on Intel Macs only. Most software that runs on Intel Macs will run on PowerPC Macs assuming the PowerPC Mac has sufficient RAM and a fast enough processor and GPU. A few games require more GPU power than is found on most PowerPC Macs, though for many other applications that's not necessary. I always go by the "recommended" system requirements more than the "minimum" to guess whether or not my software can be installed on my Mac.
And anyone getting rid of their Intel installer discs is a fool. They'll need those discs to troubleshoot issues with their Mac. Now they may be trying to offload them to people who lost their Intel installer discs, but usually you can get replacement discs from AppleCare if they are lost or stolen for a nominal fee.
Edit: iLife does not come with the Tiger retail installer, and has to be purchased separately, if you have a Mac that didn't come with that version of iLife.
The iLife found on the discs that came with another Mac are usually licensed only for use with that Mac. So be sure the person selling those discs does not have iLife installed on any other Macs from those discs. Otherwise it is not their's to sell.

  • Intel Parallel Studio XE install

I have a current license from Intel for Parallel Studio Professional. However, the Intel installer doesn't support Arch. I did grab my license file, .lic though. I then tried to install the package from the AUR but that didn't work as well.

Added support for PAUSE and alternate returns. I'll be out of town the next couple of days, on short trip to Las Vegas. The J3 meeting was unfortunately last week, otherwise I would have popped in and said hi.
You could try asking on their google group forum , https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/gg95

  • ThinkPad T540p Windows 8.1 BSOD Intel HD 4600 Graphics?

When attempting to play video, user encounters a BSOD with the error mentioning the file "lgdkmd64.sys".  This file is tied into the Intel Graphics Driver files.  I have used the Lenovo support site to reload the driver file set for the laptop, and the error reappears.  I have also attempted to use the Intel website, however, that install package will not work as it errors out and instructs to me to contact the manufacturer.
Is there any newer version of the Intel Graphics driver set for the HD 4600 model through Lenovo than what is current available on your support site?
    Thanks in advance!

You know, that I don't know. It's possible that if you deleted the display in Device Manager and specified the driver, too, that it would clear the slate and the Intel installer would run. You could also download the driver and try reinstalling the display adapter in safe mode.
I did a fresh install and it ran right out of the box on the Intel site.
Edit: I do know that the driver version at Intel is quite a bit newer than the ones Lenovo was hosting when I got my latest Thinkpads.

  • 10.4.6 intel vs powerpc

so... i have this disc which says it's for X 10.4.6, but it's not the variety for intel, it's the variety for powerpc. i have an imac which has 10.4.6 on it, intel chip... when i put the disc in and try to run the installer, it states the the software cannot be installed on this computer. the packaging says a powerpc g5, g4, g3 is required. no mention of the intel chip. SO.. what i am trying to figure out is.. where is the intel installer for macos 10.4.6. is it on a different disc, is it on this disc somewhere that i don't see?
also.. the whole reason for this is that I need to run X11 in 10.4.6. right now, it simply crashes when it starts, so i figured i would reinstall from the DVD. we run a software which includes the X11 package from a previous MacOS, so i thought it might have overridden it. however, when install the X11 package from the install DVD, it still crashes. additionally, when i try to install the X11 SDK from the DVD it states 'there is nothing to install' even though X11 SDK files are not present on the machine.
what is going on with this? any help please?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The 10.4.6 installer that came with your iMac should say iMac (Intel Core Duo) or (Early 2006). That's the only one you can use with your iMac. The iMac Intel and G5 versions of the operating systems are different. See this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
Someone in the iMac Early 2006 forum might be able to tell you for certain what is the title of the disks that came with their Macs:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=189
X11 in previous Macs was installable by installing the Developers Tools or X11 from the Installers folder in the Applications folder.
http://www.charlessoft.com/ 's Pacifist may be able to extract it from your original disks if you didn't get that installer.
