Flip4Mac making the fans go crazy????!!!!!????!!!!!?????

I have a Power Mac G5 (Late 2005). Every time I use the Flip4Mac plugin in Safari, the fan starts revving up! What is happening? Why would Flip4Mac do that to the fan? Anyone else experiencing this?

I don't have the answer to your question, but I can tell you that I am using Flip4Mac on my G5 Dual 2.7 without any issues. All G5s rev the fans a bit under a load, such as playing a movie, but if the fan noise you hear is louder than normal, further investigation is warranted.

  • Mac Os 10.6.6 update start the fans goes crazy

    Hi to all
Some months ago (almost a year from now) my mac start to become hot after only a few minutes it started up and the fan goes crazy but I never realize why. I made some search on the internet but the only answer I found was using some software to reduce fan speed. It didn't work. I run the Hardware test but nothing strange. I also took my macbook to an apple certified repair center but they told me that nothing was wrong. I also ask to another repair center but same thing. So I left my macbook as it was with this super fan noise all the time. A quite disturbing thing but there was no solution and for what I'm doing my machine is ok so why change it? (It was the only solution they gave me)
Last day my hd broke down so I had to replace it. I took my macbook pro a1211 model to an apple repair center they change the hd with a new one.
So I reinstall everything for the beginning. I took my snow leopard dvd formatted the new hd, installed the os, iWork 2008, iLife 2008, Mamp, CSS Edit, Espresso, Pixelmator and few other application such as Firefox, Camino, Etc...
I use the macbook with mac os 10.6, because I had to finish some work, and with my big surprise for two days the machine was super silent no fans, no hot body ..... nothing. I never reboot it and still no fans and hot body wow.
Today I wanted to install the developer kit with ios 4.2 and so I had to update the Mac os x to version 10.6.6 as soon as I made the update after the reboot the fans start again to go like crazy and after 15 minutes of work the macbook body become very hot.
    The question is why?
    Anyone can help me?
    Thanks in advance
    Gianfranco

  • Certain applications overwork my macbook and the fan goes crazy. Is there a fix or solution for this?

I purchased a 13.3" MacBook Pro in February of 2010. About a month later, I began to notice that certain applications that don't require much, Safari, MSWord, iTunes, were causing the fans to kick in at crazy speeds and the base of the computer was too hot to touch. Is there a patch or fiz for this, or should I return my macbook for a new?

  • Flash video doesn't make the fan go crazy

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this yet but, so far on my new aluminum Macbook when I watch any flash based videos I haven't heard the fans kick up once and the heat on the laptop seems to be very mild. All of the other Macbooks I've owned, Original White, several Macbook Pro's and a Macbook Air have all exibited the same behavior while watching any flash based videos and that is that the fan goes absolutely crazy after a while. The CPU still spikes but, I don't notice the fan kicking on. I haven't run any kind of temp monitoring software but, I'm guessing since the laptop is only slightly warm on the bottom that they have managed to control temps much better in these new designs. Anyone else noticing this or is this just me?

And you are sure that BOTH the HTML and SWF file are on the
    CD?
I took your source and a dummy SWF (which I named
"video.swf"), put them on a CD and it works fine for me.
When you double-click on the HTML file on the CD, what does
    the URL bar say specifically?
If you "hover" your mouse over where you think Flash should
be, do you see anything, like a tooltip saying "Click to activate
    and use this control"?

  • Fans going crazy, airport doesnt work and nor does iSight

    Hi
I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro, late 2010 model, 2.4 ghz, 4gb ram, so on, so forth
Just had the Logic board done as it died (intermittantly, then completely), and now the fans go crazy at most opportunities, sometimes Airport doesnt fire up (cures with a restart) and iSight doesnt work at all. It goes really slowly when the fans are going nuts. This is only using Chrome..
Any ideas? I'm falling out of love with this computer.

You have a real problem to deal with. I would recommend you download a utility like Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner and clear all user, system, and font caches. Then the following:
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. If you Quit the installer at this point the computer will restart.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Let's see if that helps you out.

  • How to keep the fan noise down?

I use my 2010 macbook pro to make music every day.
I spend a lot of time in a small room with it and the fans go crazy as soon as i do anything slightly cpu intensive.
The fans come on and are pretty loud, even with some ventilation under the laptop they go crazy.
Is there a solution to keeping them down and keeping the mac cool without being noisy?
    Thanks

  • Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?

I have a Macbook Core Du0 1.83ghz running 10.6.3. Each time I watch a video on youtube or watching Flash or other multimedia animations, my fan run super fast.
Is it the same with the new Macbook with the Nvidia Geforce graphic card?
Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?

Watching videos taxes the GPU and CPU. That's why the fan runs faster - to cool the computer. When you aren't doing much the fan slows down. This is true of all the laptops regardless of which GPU is involved.
Since you have the first generation MB model, it runs hotter than later models that incorporated some changes to the cooling system making the fan run faster during idle. You can accomplish a similar result using the third-party fan control software, SMCFanControl - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. It can be used to increase the fan's idle speed to 2000 RPM. This won't make the fan run any slower when the computer heats up.

  • Fan going crazy when booting

When I boot up iMac, the fan goes crazy. After a moment it stops and is quiet again. I unplugged my power and plugged it in again but that does't work. I tried to start AHT by holding D when booting, but that didn't work. I didn't get any discs when I bought my Mac so I can't run AHT using the disc. How can this be fixed?
I also have Windows 7 installed but I don't know if this is relevant. The fan goes mental everytime i boot up. It doesn't matter whether I do that with Windows or OSX.

OS X Mountain Lion- Use Apple Hardware Test
Intel-based Macs- Using Apple Hardware Test

  • Ibook keeps making weird noises on the left side near the fan vent

Recently my ibook has been making motor noises as it heats up. Sometimes I can make it go away by lifting the front or back up a lottle bit. Last time I got the noise it wouold not stop at all! I tried shutting down and letting it cool way off.....after 2 hours I started again and the noise was there immediately and would not stop. Please help!!

    Hi 744mom,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
There are 2 things in that area with motors; the fan and the hard drive. With the noise present at a cold start I would think the hard drive might be going bad.
Launch Disk Utility (in Applications>Utilities) and highlight the drive on the left (upper most in the list). At the bottom of the window you'll see SMART status. Does it say Verified or Failing?

  • I can hear the fan making a weird noise. What can i do?

My brand new macbook pro is making weird fan noises, like something stuck or loose. I had the same problem with my windows computer. I got my mac two weeks ago. I did not pay $1300 to have the same problems.

You make an appointment in advance. They look at it and tell you what's up. If they have the parts, they can fix it on the spot. (but they will take it in the back where they have a static-free workstation). Fan replacements (if that is indeed the problem) are straightforward, but the parts are special Apple parts.
There is no need to touch any data, but service always begs the question, "Do you have backups?" If not, what if your drive died tomorrow?
If you have an external drive, Time Machine is good because it does the backup (when the drive is available) automatically at low priority in the background. It does not interfere with your work.

  • IBook making weird noise - think it's the fan

Hi, I've had this iBook for just over two years now, and lately it's been making a weird noise. Every so often something inside - I think it's the fan - will start making this sort of high whining whirring sound, then quiet down after a few minutes. It's not particularly tied to anything I'm doing, and will sometimes happen when I'm not doing anything. Also, I am using the computer on a normal desk, not in any situation which could lead to overheating, and the computer doesn't feel any hotter than usual.
I think the problem is getting more frequent over the past few months. I originally had 10.2 and I installed 10.4 when it came out, but I think the noise had already happened once before then, so I can't directly blame that. The computer has been running a little slower since I installed, though, and the trackpad has stopped working a few times lately.
Anyone have any suggestions what could be causing this, and is it just a nuisance or is it the first sign of the computer breaking down? If it needs repairing, where do I start? I'm very ignorant about hardware, so please try to explain simply! I do have a friend who can help me if at-home repairs are all that's needed, though.

    Esther,
Have you ever done an Archive and Install of your OS? If so, you may have a Previous System folder on your hard drive taking up a lot of space. This can safely be deleted.
Some folks delete files regularly, but forget to empty the trash. It isn't gone (and doesn't free up space) until you empty the trash.
You may want to download Monolingual, which will allow you to remove unnecessary languages and foreign fonts. Most people recommend keeping around 5 gigs free to allow for smooth operating in Tiger.
Try booting into Safe Mode. This will take awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up, restart normally, and go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and repair permissions on the hard drive, as Barry has instructed above. (After repairing my hard drive via Safe Mode, I always repair permissions, even if I have done so recently.)
Hope you are on your way to a happier, quieter hard drive.

  • I just took in my macbook to the apple store to clean the fan because it was starting make a little noise but instead of making it stop it sounds like an airplane about to take off all the time, it doesn't matter what i'm doing. I dont know what to do now

take it back asap.  If it wasn't doing it before they cleaned the fans, they may have accidentally done something that is causing this behavior.

  • My macbook pro won't stop making noise! It sounds like the fan but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

my macbook pro won't stop making noise! It sounds like the fan but I'm not sure. Any ideas? It's really worrying me because I haven't had it for up tp 2months and last week everytime I switch it on it makes sooo much noise. And I treat like an egg so I don't understand whats going on.

    Hey,
My friend had a very similar issue to yours. The issue came down to the pins of the MagSafe not meeting with the MacBook perfectly causing the lights and the transfer of power to be wacko. I'm not sure if this is issue that your experiencing, but its worth checking out the pins and the MagSafe area on your MacBook for debris.
Troubleshooting Magsafe power adapters with stuck pins
If that is all clear, then I would suggest you call AppleCare or take it in to an Apple Store to have it checked out.
