Flip4mac problems

Hi,
I'm running OS 10.4.8 on my iBook G4, and I just downloaded flip4mac 2.1 to listen to a Windows Media audio file I downloaded from my local library. But when I try to open the file through flip4mac's WMV player, I get a Quicktime dialog box saying:
"Error opening movie
The movie could not be opened."
(By the way, I've got Quicktime 7.1.5.)
When I try to open the audio file through Windows Media Player (Series 9), I get taken to the Windows Media Update page:
"In order to play this file, you need to upgrade your media player to a version compatible with Windows Media Rights Manager V7. Select View Compatible Players below to see a list of compatible media players.
If your current media player does not have a Windows Media Rights Manager V7 compatible version, you should select a different player with the Windows Media Rights Manager V7 identifier."
As an extra bit of info, before I updated my OS and Quicktime yesterday, I was getting an "unsupported feature (-2053)" error when I tried to open the file, though that error has disappeared.
If anyone knows what the problem might be, I'd be grateful for a solution. Thanks!
iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Go to the following link and see if the video plays for you. If so, the you're Flip4Mac is working fine, and the chances that the other file you've been having trouble with is either a DRM'd video or is in some weird unsupported format.

  • Flip4mac problem maybe please help no audio

so i tried to veiw video on the internet "plugin not available" then i remembered that i had installed flip4mac on my powerpc mac to allow it to see those files,,, so i tried it on my mbp it's the version that says it works with mbp but now i can see the videos but no audio,,, i tried alot of different videos and i get no audio anywhere, just to check that it wasn't safari i played the apple commercial videos,, those get audio great,,, but no audio with mpg, or myspace music, or anything,, please please help
ps,, i tried to find an older version of it to see if that would work,, but i couldn't find the older download,,, can i drag and drop from my ppc?

you don't want an older version of Flip4Mac - as the new 2.1 release is the only Universal Binary created to work correctly for you.
What you may want to first do, though annoying, is to reinstall Flip4Mac.
Before doing so, be sure to go to System Prefs --> Flip4Mac to make sure all of your settings are correct.
try playing with all of the features on the "plugin" menu and see what happens.

  • Bitrate keeps changing

I'm using Flip4Mac with compressor. When I export to .wmv with a constant bitrate (video) set to 84kbps and the audio set to 32, every file I export is diffferent. Some are 126kbps, some 192, and some even in the 400's. Why is this happenning?

Are you seeing these bit rates in QuickTime player?
I find QuickTime doesn't display an accurate bit rate for some formats especially WMV.
You should find if you export files of the same duration they will in fact have the same or very very close file sizes. Therefor they have the same bit rate.
By the way this is potentially a flip4mac problem not a compressor or an Apple issue.
If it is in fact flip4mac causing inconsistent bit rates between encodes you should contact their support.

  • Problems with Flip4Mac WMV and QuickTime 10.1

I installed Flip4Mac WMV and when I try to listen to some audio in some sites, it starts playing and after about 1 second it starts playing again - so, I have the same thing playing with a delay. I use Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 and QuickTime 10.1. What is happening and how to fix it? Is there any way to play videos and audio for Windows Media Player without using Flip4Mac WMV?

First use the System Preference for Flip4Mac to check to make sure your uptodate. If you are and there is still a problem you could report it on the Flip4Mac website.
Other than that, you should be able to play WMV files using VLC which is available free for the Mac from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

  • Does the Intel have problems with flip4mac?

Hi, I have a new intel Core 2 duo iMac and there are two websites that I cannot view flip4mac plugsin on but I can on all other websites. My powerpc eMac can view the websites (videos) that I can't view on my iMac and both of my computers have the exact same system software, Safari versions, Firefox versions, and they both have flip4mac version 2.2.0.49. The only difference is one computer is a powerpc and the other one is an intel.
Apple has not been able to help me. Does anyone else have this problem with their intel iMacs?
    Thank you!
    Martha

The reason I didn't put the links is because on both sites, you have to put in your email address to register. Anyway...
    Try this website out:
    http://www.crenshawchristiancenter.net/ecomm/index.php?option=com_content&task=v iew&id=2&Itemid=4
Put your mouse on "Media", go to "Ever Increasing Faith" and a new window will launch, then click on "archives." None of the archives or any links in that new wndow will work on my iMac.
    The other website is:
    www.godslearningchannel.com
You don't click on anything on the left side, you go down to below where it says:
"The GLC bookstore is proudly carrying V!BE. Click here for more information."
Go below that and you will see a moving box and you click on THAT. It will then ask for a faith pass, you put in an email address and then you can see the video link that is not working for me.
God's learning channel will NEVER send you anything even though you "joined".
I eagerly wait to see if you can view either videos.
    Thanks,

  • Flip4Mac video problem

When I try to play wmv movies in Quicktime it doesn't work properly. I get sound, but a blank screen appears. My wmv files do play fine in Safari, Firefox, Opera, and in Finder. Anyway to fix this?
    QT (Pro) version: 7.3.0
    Flip3Mac version: 2.1.3.10

Well I don't know if 2.2.0.39 works for me. I just know it didn't fix my problem and I'm not going to try using a beta now that everything is working with 2.1.3.10.
I uninstalled QT, Flip4Mac, and Perian. I then installed them again, which fixed my problem.

  • Flip4mac/quicktime causes sleep problems

I installed Flip4mac and when i try to watch YouTube the computer spontaneously goes to sleep. I uninstalled and it stopped, but it's caused me so much grief in the past that it started happening when i used quicktime among other things and i had to reinstall my system software.
Does anyone know why this would happen? Is it definitely Flip4mac or is something else going on with my system?
What would cause the computer to just sleep in the middle of multimedia?
I've had hardware checked and cleared of problems twice.

I don't believe there's anything in Flip4Mac code that sends commands to the system like that.
Do you have a "hot" corner set up for screen saver? Maybe there's something goin on there. Do you have a schedule set up for sleep in energy saver?
Try this simple test; create a new user account and head over to youtube. Then playback something and see what happens. If things work without sleeping, then there's something in your primary user account causing the weirdness.

    Thank you everyone

Duh, install Flip4Mac. It has been Microsoft's officially recommended software for playing wma files since they stopped development of the Mac version of Windows Media Player some years ago.
    Quoted from http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac/overview.htm:
Developed by Telestream and distributed by Microsoft, Flip4Mac components are the most trusted solution with professional support, stability, and official support from Microsoft.

  • .asx stream problem w/ WM Player & Flip4Mac

I apologize if this is not the correct place to post such a question, but I didn't know of a better place and I'm desperate here!
I have Windows Media Player v.9 for Mac OSX, and the Flip4Mac plugin for Quicktime, and neither of them play the .asx stream from my favorite radio station!! In Windows Media Player I get a "stream type not recognized" message, and in Flip4Mac I get an eternally spinning arrow and an "unknown error" message!
Please HELP if you can! I moved to the other side of the country from my favorite radio station and now I can't listen to it! Aagh!

Windows Media Player for Mac (version 9 which is only version for OS X before MS discontinued Media Player for Mac) never did support all file formats (file types available in Media Player on Windows. Flip4Mac WMV Player also lacks some features - does not bring WMV3 (Windows Media Video 3 codec included in Media Player 10 for Windows XP) support/compatibility to QuickTime nor can you use Flip4Mac WMV Player unfortunately at this time to play protected wmv content.
Dunno if there is any fix for this -- think its just not compatible with Macintosh. Certain file types like avi, .asx etc won't work with Media Player for Mac (nor will they work with Flip4Mac WMV Playback Component).
For Internet radio suggest you try using iTunes radio features. But am at a loss to help you regain access your favorite radio station.
Sorry, and hope you have a solution to your problem soon.

  • QT/Flip4Mac audio problem?

In the past I had no problem viewing .mpg or .mpeg files but could not view .wmv files. So, I installed Flip4Mac and that solved the problem. However, now I am not getting audio on the .mpg and .mpeg files. Is there some kind of conflict here? I had just upgraded to QT 7.1.3 so i don't know if that's the problem, if Flip4Mac is the problem or if the browser I downloaded the files in, Netscape, is the issue. Anyone run into this audio problem?

Those links you provided the MPEGs & .mov files played directly into all my browsers:
    FireFox
    Netscape
    Mozilla
    Camino
Here are the direct links of the movie files that I tested:

  • Safari and Flip4Mac 2.2.1.1.11 problems

Hi, I recently downloaded the newest version of Flip4mac, version 2.2.1.11. After doing so, I was no longer able to view any embedded videos in Safari that were connected to Quicktime, Windows Media or flip4mac. Instead my Quicktime Player would open and play it that way. I could no longer view any live videos either, my link would say I didn't have the plug in.
So I uninstalled that version and put back version 2.2.0.49 and everything was working like before but the flip4mac people just told me that version 2.2.1.11 "should" have worked and if I had problems with it, I will again and that I may be having problems with my system or system users.
Has anyone else had this problem with the new flip4mac version 2.2.1.11? Since the older version, 2.2.0.49 is working again, I hesitate to do anything at this point.
    My computer information is:
    iMac Intel core 2 duo
    system software 10.4.11
    quicktime 7.5
    safari 3.1.2
    Thank you,
    Martha

I don't have the version anymore since I replaced it with the older one but I did just check and repair disk permissions and they were fine.
What I neglected to say is after version 2.2.1.1 was installed, I went and checked my system preference folder, the Flip4Mac settings, and all my browser options had been whited out. It was checked on where it said to play all video in the browser which was strange because it would play no videos in my browser but I couldn't experiment by checking and unchecking because that option was no longer there. Now that I'm back to version 2.2.0.49, all my options are back.
    Thank for responding, Carolyn!

  • Problems with Quicktime 7.5.5 an Flip4mac since 10.5.5...any ideas?

Hi, since update to 10.5.5 I am encountering serious problems playing .WMV files with Flip4mac in Quicktime 7.5.5. Sound is alright but video appears kind of "negative" in green and purple. Only appears in Quicktime player, MPEG-Streamclip plays fine. Does anyone have ideas how to fix this? There is no post neither in Apple nor in Flip4mac discussions so far.

  • FLIP4MAC Streaming problems

I have been having problems playing back video off a server compressed with flip4mac ver.2 . I complete my project, create the WMV and upload it to a server. Then after trying to stream it, the video freezes and jumps. The odd thing is the audio seems to play fine. My compression setting are at ; 185 kbps, One pass CBR, 320x240, 44.1 khz. Does anyone know why this might be or what I can do to solve this problem? Thanks
    JDIRECTORJ

You're probably not going to like this, but what i'd do is make a short 30 second test clip, get a pad and pencil and start making test wmv's with every possible permutation until you hit on one that works best.
Are you encoding right out of fcp or closing fcp and exporting out of QT? I do the latter, as you save all the overhead of having fcp running.
Wish I could be of more help. You don't say how long your project is--I wonder if this is a factor (but shouldn't be?)

  • Problem Converting Keynote Quicktime to WMV with Flip4Mac

    HI All
I can see that perhaps one other person may have had this issue. I have a continuous presentation exported from Ketnote as a Quicktime Movie. This plays from end to end without a hitch.
I am using Flip4Mac to convert to WMV, something I have done on many occasions with other QT files without issue (not from Keynote)
The resulting file only exports to the first transition in the Keynote presentation.
I have made the quicktime continuous (so it does not stop at slide changes) I have tried un-checking the sprite track option.
Pretty much every combination but it still always only exports to the first transition.
Any clues ? What am I missing ?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi
yes it does however I have been messing around over the weekend and have got some of the way to solving this.
Sorry its a bit long and convoluted but here goes.
I extracted the video and audio tracks as suggested below and made a new flattened movie.
I then found a utility to remove all the chapter markers from Ecamm Network.
This removed every chapter (slide) marker.
I then re-saved and made a WMV from that file. It exported until the last transition and stopped !! ( I checked with the orig file)
So I then converted the end section to WMV and joined the 2 WMV files together in Quicktime Pro.
This then played happily from end to end.
BUT you cant then save that as a WMV ! Quicktime exports it again as a .mov
So I thought that .mov must work if I convert that to wmv but no, stops in the exact same place.
There is no sprite track no chapters but there must be some other metadata that is upsetting Flip4Mac
    Anyway closer than I was.
Cant import to FCP or use DV as despite setting the frame rate to 25 in Keynote it actually exports at 22 so any 'video' frame rates make the animation very jerky as you would expect.
thanks for you help though everyone
