Flipbook.h in Shake 4.1

I am trying to customize the flipbook to open RV but unlike earlier versions shake 4.1 doesnt seem to have flipbook.h I was wondering if anybody could point me to the file with the code for flipbook on shake's ui.

  • Shake 4.1 flipbook running SLOOOOWWWWW on MacPro

Anyone else have this issue. I have a 3 gig MacPro running Shake 4.1 and when I make a flip book I get about 200 frames into it and it hangs for about 30 seconds. My Quad G5 is way faster, it doesn't hang!. My graphics card is a little better in the G5 and I have 6 gigs of RAM as compared to 5 gigs in my Mac Pro, but what gives, that doesn't seem to be enough to justify a 30 second hang up.
    Any thoughts folks?

Not like I have access to a MacPro, but have you tried Shift+> to use the cache-based playback?

  • How can I get Shake to show up in Launchpad?

I have Shake 4.1 installed on my Mid-2009 MBP, and I have Lion installed. (just to head off all the nonsensical responses- yes, Shake is installed and is working perfectly, never mind how it's still there after the Lion upgrade). Anyway, the shkqtv and shkv flipbook apps show up just fine in Launchpad, yet the Shake app itself isn't on any of my Launchpad pages. How can I get the Shake app to join its compatriots in Launchpad? I've tried the Launchpad-Control applet for the Sysprefs pane, but Shake doesn't show up there, either. Thanks in advance for your help!

I have the same problem.  Does anyone have an answer?

  • Can't FLIP a quick RENDER! Works fine in SHAKE but not to flip or Disk!

    Learning with Lynda.com!
Part 1 has you rendering two files, one is a still image, the other a quicktime movie, I don't have the money for premium so I got my own clouds movie (.mov) and added a still plane.
I key framed 1 - 100 and playing it back its fine in shake, but not on FLIP or DISK, its nothing but a still image. Have done it 5 times making sure that all the right buttons are on, or not, and as I said, it works INSIDE of shake but won't RENDER to FLIPBOOK!
I don't suppose anyone wants to send me the exercise files? (on knees begging LOL) I am a member, just can't afford $300 for one pop and this is really the only program I need to learn.
    Thanks!

Sorry if I'm pointing out something obvious that you already know. Have you checked the time range in the render dialog? Shake does not fill in the values for you automatically, and defaults to "1" so only renders the 1st frame. It needs to be set to eg "1-100".

  • SteadyCam in Motion or Shake or Final Cut Pro????

I have footage I need to steady, and I would like to know which does Steady-Cam better? Shake, Motion, or Final Cut Pro? Thank you.

    Howdy,
Actually, Motion and FCP both use the same optical-flow-based stabilization technology, which is a newer version of what's in Shake. In FCP, it's called SmoothCam. In Motion, it's done via the Stabilize behavior. Also, if you've already done your SmoothCam analysis in FCP and then you send the clip to Motion, the analysis will be usable in Motion (no need to re-analyze).
The nice thing about doing the stabilization in Motion is that you can play with it while playing back, allowing you to interactively adjust how the smoothing is applied. In Shake, you'd have to make a change, render a flipbook, make another change, render again, etc.

    G5 + DECKLINK SP   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Paul, you don't by any chance have your Media
(Capture) Files on your System Drive - do
    you?
That could cause this problem if it's a disk access
    issue.
If you don't, the stuff below's a waste of time, but
    just in case . . .
You should never keep your Media Files on a System
Drive – running the System and FCP means an awful lot
of reading and writing to disk, so if the massive
Media Files are on there, the whole thing can clog
    up.
    This is a lovely analogy:

Partitioning's not the way to go either.
Disk drives start laying data from the outside and
work inwards. The closer they get to the centre, the
slower they work - so if you partition, you're
forcing the drive to leave a large chunk of space and
    start further in.
As far as I'm aware, it's the partitioning of System
Drives that's particularly bad as they cause the
System to run slower and you need maximum performance
for video. But what's good for System Drives must
apply to externals. My G-Raid's currently
partitioned, so that I can clone my System to a small
part of it on an almost daily basis (I use
SuperDuper which only copies changed or new files, so
it usually only takes a few minutes).
As I start using HDV more regularly, I plan to remove
the partition completely so that the G-Raid works at
    maximum speed.
I hope this explains things clearly

  • Working with XDCam Footage in Shake. Is it Possible?

    Hey Guys,
From what I've been able to dig up, Shake doesn't like rendering out to XDCam in File-Out nodes and it's been the same case for me. XDCam renders brought in to FCS are slow to load and constantly bring up the beach-ball. Is it the same case for File-In nodes too? Should I avoid working with the XDCam format entirely?
The other problem I've been having, is I'll File-In the XDCam footage, work through the process to get a greenscreen key and then I've tried several different file-out CoDecs: Animation, ProRes422, ProRes422 (HQ), DV/DVCPro NTSC, and the only format that comes out normal is the DV/DVCPro NTSC. All the others are shortened.
So my question is, what's happening to my footage? The original is 10,372 Frames (Roughly 5:45) and yet I get different render times for each, even though the Flipbook shows 10k+ Frames rendered.
    422(HQ) at the Original 1280x720 - 2:34
    422(HQ) resized to 864x480 - 3:52
    422 at the original size 1280x720 - 3:50
    DV/DVCPro NTSC at 1280x720 - 5:46
Animation at 1280x720 - :20 (That one was an odd one.)
Can anyone help by explaining to me what's going on? I've even tried putting an 8-bit "Bytes" node before the file-out, as some have suggested, and still no glory. I should not that ProRes422 (HQ) is the timeline setting for my Final Cut Project and everything was shot on an XDCam ex-3 at 720p30.

I don't have any interlacing options selected in either node and the clip just stops automatically at 2:34 (4636 Frames). The file-in format is a 1280x720, 29.97fps, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), 13.6 MB/sec Data Rate. The File-out node is set to the same 29.97fps, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) codec and is left at 1280x720. When imported back into Final Cut the Data Rate is slightly lower at 13.2 MB/sec, but that is the only difference.
What makes me doubly confused is that if I put a resize node before my file out and size the 422 (HQ) file to a proportional 864x480 (other details the same) I get a longer video file as the result at 3:52 (6962 Frames), at an 8.8MB/sec Data Rate, but still well short of the full 5:45 (10375 Frames). The only file-out format that doesn't truncate my video is a 1280x720 DV/DVCPro - NTSC and it's Data Rate is 3.4MB/sec but the quality is so low as to warrant not using it.

  • Render disc Flipbook to Quicktime, HELP!

I have just finsihed chapter 2 of my 'Apple Pro Training' book on shake 4.
The book has told me after finishing my composite, to 'right click' on the 'FilmGrain' node and choose, Render - Render Disc Flipbook.
Then you get the 'pre-rendering' progress bar whilst the shake quicktime viewer opens, then NOTHING!
Can someone please help or is this a bug?
    Thanks

Just to clarify, you are on Mac OS X, right? The Linux version doesn't support disk-based Flipbooks.
Which version of QuickTime are you using, and which version of Shake?

  • Shake also crashes when rendering

The flipbook crashes when I am trying to render to disk, it is quite a heavy file and is in HD, I have tried a few times and it keep crashing...

you could look in console to see if there is any sort of crash log for the shake viewer. it's a starting point to troubleshooting this.

  • Shake 4.1 pixlet codec render on Intel 24" iMac

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but when I switched to running Shake on my Intel iMac the pixlet codec stopped working for disk flipbooks and quicktime renders. Worked fine on my PowerPC setup under Shake 4.1. I just get noise when I render on Intel. I always liked doing HD flipbooks of my film comps using the pixlet codec but have not been able to do it since the switch, all the other codecs work fine, and pixlet export works fine out of Quicktime Pro, Motion, and FCP.
    Anyone else have this???

  • Blackmagic compatibility with Shake 4.1

Good evening ladies and gentelmen. I will be using a Blackmagic Multibridge Pro and Shake 4.1. Do any of you have similar setup? Are the issues regarding video output been resolved? Thank you for your kind responses.

This is from Blackmagic's support page
    5 February 2007 — Number 176
    Shake compatibility
Shake versions 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 have previously been tested and verified for use with DeckLink and Multibridge products. Shake 4.0 is the most recent version to have been tested and verified with the latest versions of Mac OS X, QuickTime and Blackmagic drivers. Shake 4.0 is a PowerPC application suitable for use with PowerMac G5's.
Shake 4.1 is the first version of Shake designed to be run on Intel-based Macs. Unfortunately Shake 4.1 will crash when the Disk Flipbook is used to render with the videoOutput option enabled and set to a Blackmagic device. This bug also affects cards from other vendors. Apple are aware of this bug but it may take some time to resolve. This means that one should not currently attempt to use DeckLink and Multibridge hardware to monitor the video output of Shake 4.1. Shake 4.1 can be used on a G5 or Mac Pro which has Blackmagic hardware installed as long as the videoOutput option has not been enabled.
DeckLink and Multibridge users who need to monitor video output from Shake should continue to use the previous Shake 4.0 on a PowerMac G5 until this bug has been resolved.

  • Render issues in Shake on iMac

Just purchased new iMac (20", OSX 10.5.5, 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro) and Shake 4.1. So as a relatively new user to Shake (1yr VFX experience in school and work) and new to Mac, imagine my shock when I called Apple about my issue and found out their support is limited to install issues only!
Anyhow I could go into that but won't, and will cut to the real issue!
Am working on HD footage. Shake would render between 50% and 75% of 369 frames and then crash out of flipbook. So got frustrated and quit for the day... came back next day and now won't render at all. Won't render in flipbook or render from a file out node. Went to console tab in shake no errors reported, its as if Shake is not even starting render process period! Bummer ;-)!
So before I use Apples solution, uninstall and re-install Shake... thats the extent of their knowledge base....
Was wondering if any of you gurus out there have a better solution, or an idea of what caused this issue. The system and program were purchased a whopping 3 days ago, and I don't want this to be an ongoing issue.
    Cheers and thanx

Just posted this on another forum..... same topic.
    Hmmmm
Okay well back after having to rush out of town for the weekend, and yesterday filed in some HD footage and just tried (without success) to do a flipbook of footage with no extraneous nodes, just a straight flippy of it. LOL now I believe this should work no custom .h's involved or anything. And yes no render still, same thing no flipbook at all.... so maybe it is 10.5.5 issue...... haven't tried (10.5.4)yet and well frustration is kicking in .
Unistalled and reinstalled Shake, no change. I guess my real issue here is that render worked initially (although it crashed out around frame 250 of 369), and I wish I was more of an IT guy but am not (yes starts to rant here). It seems to me I have purchased a very sexy system and yes some very verbose software (that doesn't go unrecognized here) that is not supported by the seller (Apple) steam starts coming out of ears LOL. Now all this footage and nodes etc rendered out fine on the Linux systems at school, but won't render here on this new swanky system. So my intro to Mac has left me less than enamored with Apple. OK rant over
So can .h files effect rendering even if they are not in tree of footage being rendered? Would I have been better off with an Nvidia graphics card, if it was available for this particular iMac? And should a simple render really be this complicated (fully understanding that Shake is a powerful and complex program)? The console tab in Shake shows no errors during Shake launch other than some .h files are not being loaded.
I fully appreciate any responses to my post so far, and yes haven't tried all suggestions yet, but my desire to become an IT expert is low LOL as apposed to my desire to do compositing which is high. Maybe the 2 are synonymous with each other, boy I hope not.
So please keep the suggestions coming in I will try the ones which fall into my knowledge base and am thankful for any and all suggestions.
    Frustrated new Apple customer.

If you've moved the binary out of /Applications/Shake, it may not be able to find the flipbook. Check the Console tab and see if there are any error messages. You can also press Shift+. to launch a RAM-based preview inside the GUI, or try the Render - From Disk Playback, which creates a temporary quicktime file.

If you have a tool, try removing the battery cover and chech out. Some times the camera pin may have been misplaced. If so, you can fix it yourself.
