Flipping a photograph to an illustration

I want to to flip a photograph say of a bird to an illustration of the same bird, a bit like a rollover on a webpage, the only way I can think of doing it is to create two slides the same, one would have  the photograph and the other would have the illustration, and use the photograph as a kind of button that goes to the next slide, so it still has all the same content except that it will be the illustration.I have about 12 pictures, so a total of 24 slides, this seems like an awful lot of work, does anyone know of an interaction or an easier way of doing this?
many thanks
sue

Something like in this game:

It is a pretty old post, now it would be a lot easier with shared actions and grouping.  And everything is on two slides.

  • Photos in Illustrator

Do photographs reproduce well in Illustrator if you are sending the file for conventional printing?

I want to thank you for taking the time to reply to me. Maybe I did not pose the question correctly? Lets try again.
Once you include a photograph onto an Illustrator file, the photo is not a vector image. Therefore, when I have a client that requests a vector file from me and the layout of the file contains a photo... is this still considered a "total vector" file? They (the client) thinks that they can then get this "vector file" with a photo and enlarge as needed without any pixilation of the photo.
I would imagine that this is a mistake.

  • Questions regarding: 1) Photoshop and Illustrator softwares 2) .eps file formats.

I'm using a DELL PC running Win7. I have Adobe Photoshop CS (i.e. the first CS version from 2003).
I do not yet have Adobe Illustrator.
I'm creating images for a science publication. It includes graphs, chemical structures, color photos of lab
equipment. I use ChemBioDraw (Cambridgesoft, http://scistore.cambridgesoft.com) to draw chemical
structures and schematics. I've been using MS Powerpoint to draw graphs, make composites of photos, label
    panels, and add annotation.
    1) The publishing company wants line drawings to be in .eps format. I can copy and paste ChemBioDraw
and Powerpoint figures into Photoshop and then save them in .eps format. They look identical to me when in
.eps format. Will this be suitable for publication?
    2) The ChemBioDraw figure file size increases more than tenfold when converted to .eps format. Is this
    expected?
    3) I have used Photoshop a lot in the past but not for my recent work. My coauthor uses Adobe Illustrator on
a PowerMac G5-9.1. He creates .eps files for line drawings. Are the drawing tools in Illustrator much
better than those in Photoshop? If I get Illustrator will I be able to manipulate photo images (create
composites, add annotation etc.) as I have with Photoshop in the past?
    4) My coauthor has sent me some .eps line drawings. When I open them with Photoshop there is a gray and
white checkerboard pattern in the background. I believe this is because the background layer has been
eliminated (the image is in layer 1). Can such a file be opened in a way that the background is solid white?
    5) Is there a Windows-compatible software for viewing .eps files that is simpler than Photoshop or Illustrator  (i.e. no editing
    function)?
    Thanks,
    Thomas C.

    1) No. Photoshop does not create true vector files. Anyone asking for an EPS more than likely wants a true vector EPS file.
    2) No way of telling without seeing the results. But it could be perfectly normal. Increased file size in an EPS does not automatically mean there is a problem.
    3) Illustrator is a drawing tool. The tools in Illustrator are designed for object-oriented vector drawing. In many respects they are better than Photoshop's tools for those type of projects. And No, you can not edit photographs easily with Illustrator. While you can include photos or raster items within an Illustrator file, Illustrator is not inherently designed to edit iamges at a pixel level.
    4) Just add a new layer and fill it with white (or whatever color). Vector EPS files have no background.
    5) If you have Photoshop or Illustrator you have Bridge. You can view files in Bridge. I wouldn't know of any other Windows software. It may exist, I simply wouldn't know.

  • Create illustrations

    Hello,
I need advice about how to do a certain task.
I have template with dimensions of normal carrying bag with handle. My client places desired text on the sides of the bag as follows:
I need to create a visualisation in the form of bag. I send this to the client then.
Please tell me how can i do that. what tool is best for that and please guide me to any tutorial where i can learn how to do it.
    thanks in advance.

Well, ideally you could model the object in a proper 3D application, doing it on Photoshop alone is a bit difficult.
Using the 3D > New Shape From Layer > Cube you could set the proportions and define Diffuse Textures for the various sides and insert the content there.
The shading for the folds is just crudely painted.
Another option would be to photograph a white bag, slice the layout up into segments (preferably as Smart Objects), set them to Blend Mode Multiply and Warp or Puppet Warp them to conform to the actual shapes.
Doing that without the photograph as pure illustration is possible, but fairly arduous.

  • Questions About Interactive Forms

I have a project that reqires an application and background check authorization. I want to have these forms on my website as an interactive form that can be opened by a potential applicant, filled out on their computer and submitted back to me. I want to receive the completed application back in PDF form filled out and with a signature.
What do I need with my website and background apps to make this happen. Do I need some type of server application to make this happen.
Next, what are the accepted ways of having a document/application signed by an applicant and delivered to me digitally.
    Thanks

    George
Thanks for the quick reply. If it's an e-mail would I receive the actual
form used or just the content the applicant input. I would want the actual
document with a signature. If storing on my server would it be the document
and input if so that would be a better option so I could download and print
    out if needed.
A digital signature field I would trust would be the way to go for us.
Here's a synopsis of my needs.
I am hiring guys to play the role of Santa and make phone calls to children
at Christmas and I need a multi-part  application so I can have background
checks run so I have an extensive multi-page application and contract plus
background check authorization already designed in PDF form but this last
year we had to e-mail it and wait for US Postal delivery of the completed
application and I want a streamlined online way to handle the application
and hiring process because I will have 75 - 100+ possible applicants this
    year.

  • How can I covert a photo to look like a drawing?

I would like to convert a photograph into an illustration.
For instance, a portrait photo would become like a comic strip drawing.
    How do I do that?

Here's a couple of pictures I took of my grandson and made into an illustration using filters. I forget how I did it, but I could reconstruct the steps if necessary.
    http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f244/cooper213/fish-1.jpg
If this is what you want, let me know. You can make the colors more comic-book-like by playing around with saturation and contrast.
It's best to provide an example of what you're looking for. Your conception of a comic book drawing can be anything from Peanuts to Prince Valiant.

  • Any way to increase brush size during smudge

I want to create a smudge that gets larger and larger along my hand-made stroke.  I figured out how to apply the smudge brush and have it fade into nothing, or shrink as it traces my movement, but is there a brush setting I can choose to make the smudge actually grow?  Please see attachment.

Are You sure You want to use the Smudge Tool and not simply the Brush with Size set to Fade?
What are You trying to do exactly – use it on a photograph or purely illustratively?
    Do You use a Wacom-tablet?
In which case You might make use of Shape Dynamics and set the Size Control to Pen Pressure and apply pressure as needed.

  • I cant select composite CMYK....

Hey there, i have 3 questions.
    1.  Most printers like their artwork delivered in CMKY. Does this mean in print settings i need to select Composite CMYK in output when printing? If so i cant select it because its greyed out. What would cause this?
    2. My Indesign Print presets use to have options like 'press quality' and 'High quality' im sure of it, but they arnt there anymore...does anyone know why and how i can get them back. All i have is 'custom' and 'default'
    3. Printers dont like to print 4 colours over the top ive been told and i can see why. Is there a quick way to convert the document to a setting wherby the colours look the same but the printer only prints the minimal amount of ink to get the same result..hope you understand what i mean....
    cheers

You don’t have a PostScript printer selected for output. It’s not a problem, since the printer (person, not device) will select the appropriate output options when they print the job.
No, those were your export to PDF settings.
If you only need one, two, or three specific colours, like those used in a logo or simple illustration, then yes. You would use only spot colours, defined as such in InDesign and your Illustrator graphics. You can also use spot colours in Photoshop in the form on a multi-chanel file or a duotone. If, however, you need something printed in full colour like a photograph or complex illustration, then you will need to print using CMYK process.
You are wrong, however, that printers don’t like printing four colours (by which I assume you mean four colour process). More colours means more money, and printers like money. Also, process colour printing uses the most common ink colours and is often much easier than spot colour printing, which uses very specifically mixed ink. Process colour jobs are also easier for the designer (you) to set up.

  • IPhoto just printing blue squares

    Hi,
Trying to print from iPhoto 6.04 to my HP Business Inkjet 2600, it just prints out blue squares (the same size as the intended pictures) instead of the photographs. Photoshop/Illustrator images print ok, and everything is up to date. Has anyone had any experience of this, or might know a possible solution?
    Cheers

    Jim:
Another user having problems with printing reported that removing the print drivers and reinstalling them solved the problem. You might give that a try.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • How to make a photograph look like a hand drawn cartoon in Photoshop or illustrator?

    Hi all-
I'm taking a childrens book writing and illustrating class and my illustrating skills are nil. I want the photos to look like a "Cartoon" and want to create the pictures for the book but not sure which filters work best for this effect.
Would prefer it to look like a child outlined the picture and then colored in between the lines. Picture is of a dog and girl.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I know basics of the filters and don't want to just slap any effect on it.
Thanks so much in advance if anyone has any great ideas.

    kristin,
My initial thought would be to take advantage the vector outlines and color fills of Illustrator would make that an easier choice. It's also easier to edit cleanly. Use photos as a template underlay and draw on top of them. But, it'll look too slick.
Or in Photoshop, it's gonna depend upon how well the photographs were taken. I looked at the Fresco, Poster Edges, Sprayed Strokes, and Watercolor, etc., etc. The effects are nice, but, again, way too sophisticated for a child's hand.
    >Would prefer it to look like a child outlined the picture and then colored in between the lines.
Which brings me to what may be the best choice. Pick up a box of Crayolas and some good vellum paper (from an art supply store) and trace the photo. Outline in black, and color in the rest. Get a child to do it, if you want realism.
    Seriously.

  • Illustrator cs 5 flip horizontally in printing???

  • How to create a hidden shape in a photograph (illustrator/ photoshop)

    Hi,
I'm new to illustrator and even newer to photoshop so I'm not sure which would be suitable to acheive the look I want. I have searched google endlessly by cannot find the tutorial I need.
I have a photograph, and I would like for a shape (say a triangle for arguments sake) to be on the photograph. I would like the shape to have no fill or stroke as such (so the photograph is uninterrupted), but only to be visible due to the part of the photograph that is within the triangle being slightly different to the rest. Examples would be that the triangle may have a slightly different texture, be black and white, or be magnified slightly etc?
If anyone can get me started as to the direction I need to go it would be greatly appreciated. Any examples would also be great so that I can see if it is actually the result I'm looking to achieve.
    Thanks in advance.

That effect would be easier to do in photoshop, since it is an image.
Basically what you would do is create a path instead of a shape, found in the top tool bar when you use one of the shape tools.
This path can then be turned into a selection this selection will be the only area affected, or better yet jump the selected area to a new layer then you can apply styles to that layer.
ctrl-j (windows) cmd-j (mac) to copy the selection to a new layer
ctrl-shift-j (windows) cmd-shift-j (mac) to move the selection to a new layer
If you move the selection to a new layer, then you can slightly move the location a hare which can help in giving it a puzzle look.
Any more questions about photoshop would be best posted in the photoshop forum. Photoshop General Discussion

  • Can I get the photographer's package AND Illustrator?

I want to subscribe to the Photography Package of Photoshop and Lightroom ($9.99/month).  I'm wondering if later, I can also add on Illustrator with the "one app" offer ($19.99/mo), at some point, thus making my total payment $29.98 for all three programs?  Also, if I decided at some point that I want to go for the whole shebang for $49.99/month, would I have the option to upgrade to that, before my 12 month subscription is up with the other 3?
Hope that made sense! Thank you.

You can add any single-app plan as you see fit. Upgrades/ sidegrades will be dependent on your payment method and in any case require to contact support individually if you are outside the regular cancellation periods at the beginning of your subscription or the renewal phase at the end...

  • Illustrator CC Flip Transformations

    Hi,
ok, I select a path and the tool bar at the top of AI reflects all the possible actions I can perform on it: Stroke, Opacity, Tranform etc. If my app window is maximized, the Transform options appear as individual buttons in a group; if I decrease the size of my window, the button group collapses into a single underlined Orange word - 'Transform' - that indicates a drop down panel. On the Transform panel is an arrow in the upper right hand corner indicating a flyout menu. On the flyout menu are 'Flip Vertical' and 'Flip Horizontal' commands.
    1. When my window is maximized and I am looking at the Tranform commands as a group of buttons, there is no flyout menu. Where do I find the 'Flip Vertical' and 'Flip Horizontal' commands? They don't seem to be in the Object -> Transform menu.
    2. Is it possible to have the Transform, Align, etc. commands always appear on the drop down panel, regardless of whether my Window is maximized or minimized?? Just too many buttons on the toolbar.
I can get what I want with the 'Reflect' command, but is that my only option? It would be nice to have access to the Transform panel when my window is maximized.
    Thanks for any help.

as i understand it, the control panel at the top of the window is just for a selection of quick access functions. when its collapsed enough to just see 'transform', it gives you the whole transform panel - what you'd normally use from having Windown > Transform open. I don't know why this is, as on a 1920x1080 screen there's plenty of room for a few more options. I just have the palette open all the time anyway and actually think just tapping 'R' is more convenient.
but for flip horizontal & vertical in particular i made two actions and gave them F5 and shift+F5 for hotkeys. makes things quicker for me anyway.
