Flipping images produces a slight distortion

I use the flip image feature occasionally but I noticed an unwanted side effect. An image that had been scaled to 34.1% of normal size proportionally changed to 34.1% x -34.2% after the transformation. It doesn't have any real visual effect, but it does set off false alarms in my preflight for a non-proportionally scaled image.
It's always nice to preflight a document and see zero errors, as opposed to seeing a bunch of error that are (problably, maybe, hopefully) harmless.
Any way to flip an image without triggering these false alarms? I could go into Photoshop and make a new file, but the resulting file clutter isn't a perfect solution either.
Thanks,
John

  • Snagit images slightly distorted

    When I paste Snagit images into a Captivate 5 slide, the left edge of the image becomes slightly distorted.  The rest of the image is fine, but the left edge appears to have a slight ripple in it.   I can paste the same Snagit image into any other application, including Captivate 3, and the quality is perfect.   Any ideas?   I'm using Snagit 9.0.0

    Hi Jim,
    Just to add a comment to this thread. I am a long time user of Snagit and Captivate. Currently using Snagit v10 and Captivate v4.
    As you have already found, saving the image first in Snagit and them using Captivate "insert" option is the better option.
    What I wanted to add was...in the past I used to save the images in Snagit as JPEG's before inserting them into Captivate. I have since discovered it is better to save your images in Snagit as PNG - you get better results in Captivate this way.
    You may already be doing this, but mention it just in case.

  • Slightly Distorted Playback from Piano Lessons

    Hello:
    I am using Garageband as part of iLife '09 on an iMac 20" with an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 MIDI controller. I have a Tascam FireOne audio interface that the sound goes through, but this problem has also happened with the built-in CoreAudio driver before I purchased the interface.
    I'm mainly using it at the moment for working through the Piano Lessons I've downloaded from the Lessons site. Whenever I play the piano, it's tolerable and plays fine, but I notice that the sounds can become slightly distorted sometimes. Sometimes, for instance, I would press one of the keys and it would produce a stuttering sound. Other times, I would hold down a key and it would play a different octave of the chosen key.
    Any suggestions yoiu might have for improving the audio quality would be appreciated; thanks very much.
    Best,
    Velanche

    Hi,
    It happens in all players, even with audio-editors and with all output methods. I tried toggling each mute and dim button, without result. Maybe it's a problem with my PCI-slot, because the 1212m shares IRW with the onboard graphics and the USB controller. shouldn't be a problem today, but who knows. I've tried everything and i think that i will send back the card and buy a firewire based interface.
    Thanks for your help anyway & greetings

    When sound device is sharing IRQ with onboard graphics --> trouble if you have not disabled the onboard graphics. This can be improved a bit by setting the PCI latency (graphics --> 32, sound --> 64-128).
    !! 1212M is quite power hungry too --> is your PSU >300W?
    If you're under 300$ budged --> Presonus has FireBox on sale @ 299$ (~250$ street price, and it's >500$ device).

    Firefox 3.6.8 and 3.5 (I downgraded to see if that would solve the issue)

    When using Firefox certain videos play but the image is green and distorted. The image turns into lines and sometimes it half of the screen of the video. Examples are streaming MLB.tv video and some vimeo videos. The odd thing is that it isn’t all Vimeo videos. Is this a flash issue?
    The issue does not happen with Internet Explorer which leads me to believe this is an issue with Firefox. I downgraded to 3.5 and the issue still persists.

  • Does iPhoto flip images horizontally or is it my camera?

    As a Serious stamp collector, I am trying to scan all of my collection into iPhoto.
    (Only because there is NO dedicated software for the Stamp Collector).
    Problem is that images are flipped (Reversed) horizontally.
    Rotate will only turn the image upside down.
    I am forced to use (Preview, Photoshop, GraphicsConverter) to correct the pics.
    This seems to be a camera problem, as iPhoto and iChat images are FLIPPED.
    This fault could be easily fixed by simply adding a FLIP IMAGE BUTTON to iPhoto and iChat.
    My system uses a:
    1 yr old PowerBook 1.67 ghz 12in.
    OS X 10.4.6
    iPhoto v6.04
    Sony DCR-HC40 video camera using the Firewire option and from MemoryStick. ( I Haven't tried SONY USB or S-video output)
    Now that I wrote this post, I should give SONY a buzz and see what they recommend.
    Any Input on this subject is appreciated.

    SSC:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're taking pictures of the stamps for inclusion into iPhoto and they are coming out reversed, right? You're not actually scanning them.
    Check all of the menus on the camera to see if there is an option to flip the image. It sounds like there should be one. Are normal photos flipped? Are you using a "macro" mode on the camera? Check those out to see if the answer is in there somewhere.

  • How do I fix slight distortion in background in generating sine wave

    I'm getting a slight distortion in the background when I run the following code, the distortion is very slight and sounds like buzzing. Because of its subtle nature it makes believe there is some sort of aliasing going on with the byte casting:
    Note: code assumes (for now) that the data is in big endian.
    Output:
    PCM_SIGNED 44100.0 Hz, 16 bit, stereo, 4 bytes/frame, big-endian
    (sound)
         public static void playFreq(AudioFormat audioFormat, double frequency, SourceDataLine sourceDataLine)
              System.out.println(audioFormat);
              double sampleRate = audioFormat.getSampleRate();
              int sampleSizeInBytes = audioFormat.getSampleSizeInBits() / 8;
              int channels = audioFormat.getChannels();
              byte audioBuffer[] = new byte[(int)Math.pow(2.0, 19.0) * channels * sampleSizeInBytes];
              for ( int i = 0; i < audioBuffer.length; i+=sampleSizeInBytes*channels )
                   int wave = (int) (127.0 * Math.sin( 2.0 * Math.PI * frequency * i / (sampleRate * sampleSizeInBytes * channels) )  );
                   //wave = (wave > 0 ? 127 : -127);
                   if ( channels == 1 )
                        if ( sampleSizeInBytes == 1 )
                             audioBuffer[i] = (byte) (wave);
                        else if ( sampleSizeInBytes == 2 )
                             audioBuffer[i] = (byte) (wave);
                             audioBuffer[i+1] = (byte)(wave >>> 8);
                   else if ( channels == 2 )
                        if ( sampleSizeInBytes == 1 )
                             audioBuffer[i] = (byte) (wave);
                             audioBuffer[i+1] = (byte) (wave);
                        else if ( sampleSizeInBytes == 2 )
                             audioBuffer[i] = (byte) (wave);
                             audioBuffer[i+1] = (byte)(wave >>> 8);
                             audioBuffer[i+2] = (byte) (wave);
                             audioBuffer[i+3] = (byte)(wave >>> 8);
              sourceDataLine.write(audioBuffer, 0, audioBuffer.length);
         }

    The data was actually LITTLE-endian, it become apparent when you use a larger amplitude (say 2^15).

  • Flipping images in Aperture

    Is there a way to flip images like you can in Photoshop? I want to be able to flip certain images horizontally and vertically, but it doesn't appear that Aperture offers this function. I have been doing it with the external image editor, which I have set to Photoshop, but I would rather not do it that way since the newly saved image is a huge tiff file. Does anyone know if and how you can flip images?

    Go the adjustment hud or the inspector add a flip adjustment from the + menu.

  • How do you flip image Horizontally

    I'm sure I'm looking right at it but can't find out how to flip an image Horz. I see rotate, but not flip.
    thks for help

    You can't flip horizontally in iPhoto. What I do is to export to the desktop and then open with the contextual menu item QuickView (you can get it at VersionTracker.com), rotate and save, and then import back into iPhoto. If you have a different 3rd party application that have flip images you could do that, even using it from within iPhoto by setting it up as your editor of choice for that particular item.

  • Flipped Image

    When I run the isight camera in xp via bootcamp by double clicking the isight icon under my computer a screen pops up allowing me to take pictures with it. However, the image is flipped horizontally meaning when I move to the left I can see the image of myself moving to the right. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.

    Nope, printing to a PDF "unflips" the image. And I get the same behavior printing to both my Epson photo printer and a Samsung laser printer. Not a huge deal, if I un-rotate the image and print, it prints flipped. Tried it with a recent digital (not scanned) image and got the same behavior. I discovered the "problem" after scanning a B&W negative taken back in 1973. I use an Epson V600 scanner and normally flip and rotate as part of the scanning process; however the scanner had problems determining the edges of the 35mm frame since it is a picture of a window surrounded in black. I had to resort to using the marquee and manually selecting the frame to scan. Doing so doesn't allow you to flip and rotate during the scan, so you have to do that in Aperture.
    Again, not a big deal as long as I know how to manage it. And I rarely flip images - only in the type of situation noted above. I almost would not have noticed it, except that I was comparing the inkjet print to a silver print I made of the negative back in the '70's.
    Thanks for all the suggestions to try and narrow this down, but I am perplexed that you do not seem to get the same behavior.

  • Adobe Premiere 6.5 - transitions show slight distortion in exported files

    Hello All
    My system is Window XP/Premiere 6.5/Pinnacle Pro-One
    I am sure someone else has come across this problem. Transitions like cross dissolves, barndoors, page peels, etc., look fine when previewed in Premiere 6.5.
    When the project is exported to AVI or WMV there is an apparent "re-sizing" of one source during the transitions. Apart from that, the picture clarity is fine. The distortion is not severe but it is noticeable and annoying.
    I would appreciate any ideas about what this could be.
    Many thanks
    Brian

    Hello again all
    Sorry about the delay (things have been a bit hectic at work) but my thanks to John T Smith, Hunt and JohnBmx4 for your suggestions.
    The disortion or re-sizing effect is happening during transitions between a series of still photographs. (See attached WMV clip)
    I received the photos as JPGs at 300 dpi and took them all into Photoshop and cropped them to 720 x 576. The "Mode" settings in Photoshop for these photos was set at RGB, 8bits/channel. Resolution is 300dpi and the resampling was set to Bicubic. I imprted them into Premiere 6.5 as jpegs.
    When previewing in Premiere the transitions look fine. It is when the project is exported to AVI or WMV files that the disortion or re-sizing effect shows up.
    As you can see from the WMV clip, at the start of each transition, the outgoing image reduces slightly in size and then, just before end of the transition, the incoming image increases in size to fill the standard frame.
    The project also has 4:3 motion video which I captured from a Camcorder. The transitions between those captured motion clips seem to be fine. I have also attached a screen capture of the settings viewer for this project. The settings seem fine to me but maybe someone can spot an inconsistency.
    Would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions
    Many thanks
    Brian Emmis
