FLME + Decklink Studio: Dropping frames after 10h of streaming
Hi!
We just bought two Decklink Studio cards to use with our live streaming servers.
First, everything works fine. We have high quality flash live streaming, using SDI input with embedded audio.
But after approximately 10 hours of streaming, the quality comes down, and the frame rate too, looks like the encoder start are dropping frames.
Then if we just try to stop the live encoder, they freeze.
The only way to close the program is forcing with CRTL+ALT+DEL.
At this time, if we restart the FMLE, all works fine again, for more or less 10 hours.
The specs are:
FLME 3.1
Windows Server 2008 R2 (64)
Decklink Driver 7.5.2.0
Dell PowerEdge R610
16GB RAM
Dual Intel Xeon E5504
Can you guys help me with this problem?
Thanks
Marcelo Guerra
I would recommend you post your query on FMLE forum for faster resolution: http://forums.adobe.com/community/flash/flash_media_live_encoder

Memory usage and CPU load do not change when the problem appears: 1.4GB RAM used, 18% of CPU load in all 8 cores.
At this time, if we restart the FMLE, all works fine again, for more or less 10 hours.
The specs are:
FLME 3.1
Windows Server 2008 R2 (64)

I`ve tested a basic core i5 desktop with 4GB of RAM, running windows XP 32bit , and works fine for more then 36 hours with 1.3GB RAM used and 80% of CPU load. (need to stop tests after 36h).
Looks like a 64 bit problem with FLME.
Can you guys help me with this problem?
Thanks

Final cut pro dropped frames after transition
Hi, I'm kind of new with FCP 7 and have an issue getting dropped frames after applying a transition effect into my video. Everything else is working right but just after I apply any dissolve or transitions the video hiccups.Even rendering it still jumps.
I'm using a canon rebel t2i which gives me a h.264 codec (I've read that is a hard format for editing) but it is the only one I got, is there a way to solve this issue ? Thanks!!Solve it by transcoding the h.264 file to pro res using MPEGStreamclip.

Dropped frames after upgrade to FCS2
Hi all,
Were getting dropped frames on capture since upgrading a system from 5.1.4 to fcp6 (FCS2)
System is MacPro with all updates installed. Raid is capable of 400MBs.
Prior to upgrade we captured 720P60 10bit uncompressed fine
Also playback of 2 layers in timeline with animated transparency on Trk2 was realtime, no dropped frames.
After upgradeto fcs2 + ATI1900XT + upgrade to Blackmagic driver 6.2
Capture of 720P60 8/10 bit FCP6 reports dropped frames after between 2>3 mins of capture on the fly from a non-contolable device.
Playback of a single stream is fine but if I add a track and lower the transparency FCP6 reports disk speed is to low to playback 2 streams.
The raid is osx extended. We did have it journaled even though we erased using just osx extended :-/ so re-formatted again and this time it stuck on just osx-extended.
I've set privacy on the raid for spotlight though did not do this before when it was working fine.
aja and blackmagic speed tests are reporting same speeds for the raid as prior to upgrade. 450MBs read 390MBs write.
We have a few external disks osx clones with old setup fcp5.1.4 on etc so will statup from one and see if this goes away.
Anyone else having capture playback framerate issues since upgrade?
Cheers
SThis gets harder to understand!..
So I re-boot off the internal with FCS2 and BM6.2 drivers on.
Open the projects. Add a clip to trk1.. add a clip above in trk2, animate transparency.. thinking yep.. will bomb out... nope.. now it plays fine as before!..
So between booting off another OSX drive with FCP 5.1.4 and BM6.1
Reboot off OSX drive with FCP6 and BM6.2 driver something changed :-/ -
Dropping frames after Motion stabilization
Hello,
I'm having a weird problem with Motion and FCP. I'm running FCP Studio 2 (FCP 6) on a MacPro Intel Dual-Quad Core with 2GB of RAM and a Kona 3 card. My media is on 2 internal hard drives - SATA 7200, 500GB each, speed=3gigabits.
I'm working in Apple Prores 422 HQ. When I open my project and play my sequence it plays back fine. I send a clip to Motion (with embed motion content and launch motion checked) and apply motion stabilization; save then quit. I go back over to FCP and I can't play my timeline for more than a couple of seconds before I get dropped frames. It's not just when I play the new Motion clip in the timeline - it's everywhere and it's random. This happens before and after I render. If I remove the motion clip I still get dropped frames. If I shut down FCP without saving and reopen the project (no Motion work having been preserved) it plays back fine. I've tried trashing prefs to no avail. Any advice? I like the elegance of this workflow...if it works! I'm wondering if this is a bug that updating to FCP 6.0.1 will fix.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts...Alright...I tried a clip using Smoothcam and you're right - fabulous results, analyzation and render times were actually quite fast. However - same dropped frame problem I was getting with Motion. Exact same problem. My system is beefy enough for this, right? I have 2 GB of RAM - I had 5 GB but AJA had me remove 3GB so that I could capture Prores HQ (apparently the Kona 3 with v 4.0 software has a bug that won't allow it to work well on systems with over 2GB of RAM - i.e. couldn't capture prores without dropping frames)
I'm trashing prefs and restarting my system. If this doesn't work I'm going to try updating everything unless anyone out there knows what might be the culprit. -
Premiere Pro begins dropping frames after a few hours of editing
Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm running Premiere CC on a new iMac 27inch and after a few hours of editing both the source monitor and record monitor begin dropping frames at a pretty high rate. The only way I have found to fix this is to shutdown the computer. But in a few hours, I'm back to dealing with dropped frames. My iMac is tricked out with I7 processor, 32 gigs of ram, and an nvidia graphics card with 2 gigs of ram. I am editing with raw files from a Canon 5D, but the edits are pretty straightforward, nothing too complex. Does anyone know a fix for this?
since your name is sun baked...it could be you live in a hot area...could this be heat related ??

Jerky playback with dropping frames after iPod/iPhone Conversion
Hi!
I have a problem converting quicktime hd material to iPod/iPhone H.264. I know that there are iPhone Trailers available on the Apple Movie Trailer Page, but lets take a trailer as an example video source, because they are free to use and are leading to the "dropping frames" problem.
Source video data:
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
23.976 fps
5755 Kbps (VBR)
1280x720 (16:9) / Progressive
Converted video data:
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
23.976 fps
1472 Kbps (VBR)
640x360 (16:9) / Progressive
While the source video playback is smooth in quicktime, the converted video drops frames and the playback is very jerky.
The problem occurs with every single trailer i tried (e.g. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button).
I also tried to convert the material with visualhub (ffmpeg/vlc) - same result.
Has anyone ideas how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!
Message was edited by: florian.kloppeThe issue could very easily be insufficient hard drives. You really should have a minimum of three internal drives for editing. A single 5400 RPM drive is bound to cause lags.

Why is the video dropping frames after export?
http://vimeo.com/65108558
The video in question is in the above link. I am using PP CS5 with a new iMac i7 32gb cuda enabled. When watching the clips in the timeline everything looks normal. This video was encoded to h.264 max render quality with the vbr at 50.
There has to be an issue with the export settings, as to why my exports looks like this. Any one who can help out would be greatly appreciated.May 2, 2013 2:02 PM 1st message 32 minutes later 2nd message May 2, 2013 2:34 PM

Dropped Frames...
I am editing using Premiere Pro for CS4. I edited some footage on a sequence with the incorrect settings and am now having major troubles exporting the video.
I shoot HD footage (1280x720, at 24 fps) with a Nikon D90.
What I did wrong initially was to edit the footage with a frame rate of 25 instead of 24/23.976 . When I realized my mistake, I copied this footage into a new sequence with the correct settings and frame rate.
However, now the footage is very jumpy and drops frames after it is exported. I looked for a feature that would allow me to remove the distortion due to copying the edited footage between sequences with different frame rates (like Final Cut's "remove attributes", "distort"). However, so far I cannot find anything.
If this is not the main problem, I am guessing that I am exporting the video incorrectly. The only preset that allows me to have both HDV and 1280x720 (the size of my video) is H.264. However, this same preset only allows for 23.976 fps, not 24 fps (which is what the D90 records in). Could this be the issue?
Any ideas? I would love some help!OK, I downloaded the video from Vimeo, and while it's more than likely a reencode of your encode, it did reveal something interesting. First off, the info pulled from the file using MediaInfo:

What makes me think (positive) that your file is reencoded is that the "Writing Library" is listed as a fairly old build of the open source x264 encoder--I imagine you used AME to export this file originally. In any event, this is only interesting if, well, you're interested in looking at this kind of stuff (I am, anyway!). Ahem...
After I downloaded the file, I played it back in MPC, and it played pretty much the same as it did on Vimeo... this is more or less to be expected. However, I noticed something interesting during playback, which I explored a little more in the next part.
Finally, I imported the MP4 file into Premiere, where I'd have frame-by-frame playback control. This is where I confirmed what I thought I saw in the MPC playback. If you load the clip (at least this reencoded version--I have no idea whether this is happening on your original or not, so you'll have to experiment) into the source monitor and step through one frame at a time, you'll quickly see something odd: after 23 frames, the 24th frame is a repeat of the 23rd! This happens over and over, every second: 23 changing frames followed by one that is the same as the frame immediately preceding it. Now, I can't tell if frames are being dropped, because I have no way of knowing what's missing; you'd have to confirm that by comparing the encoded file to the originals in the timeline as I described previously.
So, what does this all mean? I really can't say, unfortunately. Something fishy is going on. Did you by any chance accidentally export from the 25p timeline to a 24p destination file? That could have the effect I'm seeing, but then again, maybe not.
Do a little bit of tinkering with your project and the encodes, and see what you can uncover. I believe it's a simple thing; it's just hard to get to the bottom of it without looking directly at the issue. -
Problems with dropped frames in FCP 4.5 Log & Capture
Thanks for the advice on my previous post regarding sound problems - those are now sorted, but I am having problems with dropped frames in Log and Capture. I am using FCP 4.5 with OS X 10.4.10 on a Powermac G4. CPU 867 mhz dual processor. L2 Cache 256 kb, L3 cache 1 mb. Memory 1g. Bus speed 133hz. I am capturing from a Canon XM1 via Firewire. The scratch disk is a 500gb Seagate FreeAgent USB 2.0, 7200rpm.
Basically, the video and audio are fine while playing back in Log and Capture and I can control the device, but any attempt to capture, whether Capture Now or Clip result in a very jerky picture and aborts with dropped frames after a few seconds. The sound is ok for the few seconds before it aborts. There do not appear to be any problems with the timecode.
My capture preset is DV Pal 48hz.
Any advice or pointers gratefully received.
Thanks, AllyWell quite. I have just tried it in the internal hard drive and it works fine now. I am going to have to capture everything to my small hard drive and move it across to the external. Then, when I have finished I am going to bang my head against the wall and buy an external HDD with Firewire.
Thanks,
Ally -
Dropped frames importing HDV from Canon HV20
Hi all,
I have a strange problem. When I capture a HDV tape with my Canon HV20 camera it runs ok for some time but starts dropping frames after a random time. It shows a yellow triangle in the capture screen. Sometimes it stops the capture half way by it self before the end of the tape is reached.
I can see that the memory is then full and the swap is +-1.2 Gig.
I disconnected all other firewire / USB stuff from the mac.
320G of free Disks pace.
Capture in FCE works ok but when importing it in to imovie the timestamp is not there.
Any idea's?
Cheers,
JeroenI tried reinstalling Quicktime, trashing my preferences, and repairing permissions, but the problem still persists. I think this problem may be different in nature from the communications problems that article is designed to address. When I try to import HD video it fails, but I can capture standard definition video recorded on the same tape without even having to disconnect my camera. I just close the capture window, find a section of tape with standard def video on it, and it captures without a hitch. I may be completely wrong about this, but it seems like Final Cut is just not able to recognize the HD video that has been captured on the tape. If anyone has experienced a similar problem or knows of a solution, help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to import video into Final Cut Pro using a Canopus ADVC-300. The clips I'm trying to import are long, over an hour sometimes. I always get dropped frames after like 10 minutes and it stops the recording. Is there something I can do to fix this so that the frames don't drop. I don't have a ton of stuff running while I do this. I'm not doing anything else except maybe surfing the web. Thanks in advance.
#1 choice: internal SATA drive formatted as Mac OS Extended
#2 choice: external SATA (eSATA) drive formatted as Mac OS Extended
#3 choice: external Firewire drive formatted as Mac OS Extended
Do NOT use a USB connection. USB transfers data in packets (short bursts) and FCP needs a sustained data flow like that offered by SATA or Firewire.

Flash player h264 live streaming dropping frames
Hi
For some reason i noticed Flash player h264 live streaming is dropping frames very rigorously when streaming to fms 3.5. There are no frames dropped on client camera end. Dropped frames correspond to NetStreamInfo. The output is thus very jerky. This happenbs no matter what settings i use (176 x 144 @10fps). CPU usage is well below 50%.
I noticied that if i stream the same to Red5 1.0 i do not get any frames dropped. The output is perfect as expected. Can some one please help out on this. Also i can confirm that the encoder used in FMLE and flash player 11.1 or above is not the same. The medium quality preset in FMLE uses "
Bandwidth 300kbps
Quality Dont know
fps 20
keyframeInterval 5sec
If i use the same settings in flash player 11.1 i get heavy framedrops and bad playback no matter what quality i use. So this confirms that both encoder are not the same as adobe claims.
On the other hand i sure would love to know why setting bandwidth to 0 creates a smooth stream without framedrops. I will request someone from adobe team to answer me here. -
FMLE 3.2 capturing fewer frames after 8 hours of recording but no 'dropped frames' reported
A client of ours is capturing 20x live streams via FMLECMD directly to F4V files (15min chunks) for ~21 hours a day. They're finding that after approx 8 hours of recording, FMLE gradually reduces the number of frames it's recording & the resulting files have very choppy playback (no dropped frames are reported). It eventually crashes on most of the machines before completing a day's work. Some machines also display a C++ error message on crash whereas others just freeze up.
One PC was set to capture a blank input & doesn’t exhibit this behaviour ie captures at the initial/specified framerate even 20hrs in. Please see the profile xml below.
The spec of the capture workstations is:
HP Z200 i3 i3-540/3.06GHz/2GB/160GB Hard Drive/DVD-Writer/ Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD/Windows 7 Professional
Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro in each, running Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3.2 (scripted to launch via CLI with no preview). These PCs are fresh out-of-the-box & have never been online.
As an immediate/short-term workaround, we've set a restart interval for FMLE of 5 hours but this compromises the recordings as the stop/start process obviously results in a loss of recording time & requires manual file renaming. Please note, none of the machines are streaming - just capturing locally to F4V.
