Float addition bug in AS3

Try this:
Make a new AS3 project and in the actions in frame 1 write:
trace(10.3+0.3)
Now run it and get the result: 10.600000000000001
Trying the same with a AS2 project gives 10.6 as expected.
Please let me know if others can replicate this?

Thanks. Did some research.
Didn't realise the unaccuracy kicks in with so few
decimals.

  • Double Float Margin Bug "error"

    I did a browser compatibility check on one of the pages that
    I am building and got this error.............
    "Line 112, Double Float Margin Bug 'error'
    When a margin is applied to a floated box on the same side as
    the direction of the float, the margin is doubled. This bug only
    affects the first float in a row of one or more floats.
    Affects: Internet Explorer 6.0
    Likelihood: Very Likely"
    I have many thumbnails for a gallery page in their own divs,
    within the content div, and they are floated in there.
    When I viewed solutions, they suggested:
    "When a margin is applied to a floated box on the same side
    as the direction the box is floated AND the floated box is the
    first one inside its containing box, the margin is doubled. (In
    other words, a left-floated box with margin-left set to move it
    away from its containing box will be twice as far away from the
    left edge of the containing box as intended.)
    SOLUTION
    Specify display: inline; for the affected float.
    DETAILED DESCRIPTION
    This bug only reproduces when the floated element's margin
    extends in the same direction as the float itself, and is between
    the float and the container box's inside edge. Subsequent floats
    with similar margins won't reproduce this bug- just the first float
    in any row of floated elements."
    Does anyone have any solutions, suggestions as how to fix
    this? I will attach my code. And if anyone has a better solution as
    to laying my thumbnail divs in another div container, please say
    so. The reason I am putting them in separate divs is because that
    is what someone suggested to use them with Lightbox2. He said they
    needed some kind of special CSS to enable some of the functions and
    they (the thumbnails) were easier to style if they were in their
    own separate divs. I'm open for any suggestions.
    Thanks!

    Just add "display:inline" to the styling like this:
    .image {
    background-color: #121922;
    height: 100px;
    width: 100px;
    float: left;
    margin: 20px;
    display: inline;
    }

  • Floating point bug?

    Hello,
    Please, see this code:
      public static void main(String[] args)
        double[] arr=new double[]{3279.87d,-986.09d,-2293.78d};
        double d=0;
        double h=0;
        for(int i=0;i<arr.length;i++)
          double x=arr;
    System.out.println(x);
    if(x>0)
    d+=x;
    else
    h-=x;
    System.out.println("d = "+d);
    System.out.println("h = "+h);
    System.out.println("d-h= "+(d-h));
    System.out.println("d==h= "+(d==h));
    "d" and "h" must be equal.
    However, it prints:
    3279.87
    -986.09
    -2293.78
    d = 3279.87
    h = 3279.8700000000003
    d-h= -4.547473508864641E-13
    d==h= false
    Is this a bug?
    Using strictfp produces the same output.
    JDK: 1.4.2_03 (linux) and 1.5.0 (linux)

    Is this a bug? Using strictfp produces the same output.No, you just don't understand how floating point numbers work:
    What Every Computer Scientist Should Know About Floating Point Numbers
    Your own data is telling you that the difference between d and h is 1e-13, which is NOT zero. Since that's the case, how could d == h be true? Why don't you believe the evidence you have in front of you?
    Anyone who works with floating point numbers would know that you don't check equality like that. You compare the absolute value of the difference to a small error value.

  • CS4 Floater Size Bug

    I have some floaters which work fine in CS3 but when I view
    them in CS4 the floaters are not sized properly. I can manually

  • Floating Dialog bug with multiple image selection?

    The selectionChangeObserver fuction of the LrDialogs.presentFloatingDialog command is not being triggered in all cases.
    It does not trigger when you have mulitple images selected and switch the main focus from one of the selected image to another seleted image.
    Anyone else run into this? or is it something I am doing wrong.
    function getSelectedImage()
            LrTasks.startAsyncTask( function ()
                 local selectedPhoto = catalog:getTargetPhoto()

  • GameInput order-of-addition bug, gamepad undetected if not first or only

    It's strange, I have 3 controllers: Xbox360, a generic "GTC" and a Logitech RumblePad 2. What happens is if the Rumble Pad 2 isn't alone or added first, it's never even detected/added by AIR, even if Windows does detect it.
    I've recorded a video with youtube annotations to show what's going on in case you don't have a Logitech's Rumble Pad 2 USB to test it.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFr1_zgSkrM
    My guess is the gamepad or driver is not sending something to activate, but it's clearly present as Windows can detect it, so I'm guessing even if it's a problem with the Rumble Pad it could affect other controllers as well and should be gracefully handled by AIR.
    System/Tech info:
    Windows 7 / 64-bit
    air dll 3.9.0.1380
    flex sdk 4.6.0.23201
    air sdk 3.9.0.1030
    Controllers used (all USB): Xbox 360, Generic "GTC brand", Logitech RumblePad 2.
    Thanks in advance

    The bugbase link has (ironically) a redirect loop bug.
    I'll paste a minimalistic example here that had the same behaviour (different background and font but exactly the same).
    http://pastebin.com/WrWm2ybn
    Don't forget to set the Extended Desktop flag to get GameInput support in the project.
    Please check the youtube video posted before to see the behaviour I'm talking about. To summarize: The RumblePad is detected If it's the first connected, or if it's left alone (all others disconnected).

  • KDE 4.5 Floating window bug

    Anyone else have overlapping windows?
    With a height of 1048, I open two windows that are each 524.  Pre 4.5, they opened evenly, dividing the screen in two, but now they overlap by 6 pixels (minuscule but annoying).
    I submitted the bug upstream already.  https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=248953

    My submitted bug upstream was already reported.  The real issue is windows snapping to the panel's shadow in the Air theme rather than to the panel itself.

  • Drag and Drop Bug (Flash, AS3)

    Hello! Help, please! I'm making a game that involves dragging and dropping books. (Right now there is only one book.) While testing my game, I discovered by accident that no matter where I drag on the screen, the draggable book responds, moving around on screen despite the cursor not being on top of it. Here is my code. (It also snaps a larger book mc to the small one for purposes I intend to use later.)
    // Making the small book dragable. //
    small_book.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, fl_ClickToDrag_6);
    // when the mouse button is clicked...
    function fl_ClickToDrag_6(event:MouseEvent):void
        small_book.startDrag();
        big_book_mc.x = small_book.x;///
        big_book_mc.y = small_book.y;///-----> Makes the big book snap to the lil one when clicked.
    stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, fl_ReleaseToDrop_6);
    // when the mouse button is released...;
    function fl_ReleaseToDrop_6(event:MouseEvent):void
        small_book.stopDrag();
        big_book_mc.x = small_book.x;///
        big_book_mc.y = small_book.y;///-----> Makes the big book snap to the lil one when the mouse button is released.
    stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, dragFn);
    // if the mouse is currently dragging....;
    function dragFn(event:MouseEvent):void
        small_book.startDrag();
        big_book_mc.x = small_book.x;///
        big_book_mc.y = small_book.y;///-----> The big book follows while the mouse is dragging.
    // the small book is now draggable and the big book snaps to it.

    your stage listeners should be added in the mousedown listener functions and then removed in the mouseup listener functions.
    and just to clarify, your small book starts dragging no matter where there is a mousedown?

  • It seems a bug of as3 when using BitmapData.draw for a shape which is masked with another shape

    This is the code of my document class:
    public class FirstMask extends Sprite
      private var maskedShape:Shape;
      public function FirstMask() {
       init();
      private function init():void {
       maskedShape = new Shape();
       addChild(maskedShape);
       maskedShape.graphics.beginFill(0xff0000);
       maskedShape.graphics.drawRect(0,0,80,80);
       maskedShape.graphics.endFill();
       var maskShape:Sprite=new Sprite();
       maskShape.graphics.beginFill(0x000000);
       maskShape.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 20,20);
       maskShape.graphics.endFill();
       maskedShape.mask=maskShape;
       var bmd:BitmapData=new BitmapData(80,80);
       bmd.draw(maskedShape);
    When I do not use the bmd to draw the maskedShape,everything is ok.When I do that,it seems the maskShape is auto-transformed including its position and size.As a result,I can not see the maskedShape unless I adjusted the IE size.Can anybody tell me why?
    ps:If I set this.stage.align=StageAlign.TOP_LEFT; I can see the small scaled maskedShape.If I add the maskedShape to the displaylist ,everythis is ok.But Why drawing has the effect on the drawn shape?

    Thanks again.But the "draw" itself is all right.
    After " bmd.draw(maskedShape);",I code:
       var bm:Bitmap=new Bitmap(bmd);
       bm.x=100;
       bm.y=0;
       addChild(bm);
    The bm can be shown.
    So to make it clear,I print the screen:
    1.No"mask" No "draw" at all.
    2."mask" without "draw"
    3."mask"and then "draw"---the IE shows nothing
    4.If I drag the IE,adjust its size,then I can see a little thing on the top-left.
    confusing...
    PS:If I run the code as "air application",it seems all right.

  • Illustrator 16.1.1 CS 6 Bug:  Document Window  "snap" to Win 7 taskbar

    The same thing that was happening with Photoshop (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4723811) is now happening in Illustrator after the most-recent update.
    Please patch!

    Noel everyone have their own preferences the more I use tabbed editing the more I dislike it the same with Windows auto hide task bar.  With CS6 I'm forced to use Tabbed Editing for too many thing are broken in CS6 if you prefer floating windows. Its so bad I actually stop testing CS6 which I paid for because Adobe told me the bug I reported in CS5 was fixed.  That was not correct that bug is still there. Additionally Adobe has introduced additionally bugs in the Action Player and in Photoshop Scripting the default Preference for interpolation was not added to scripting and causes errors.  Adobe also added some lame new features with poor design and implementation like recording brush strokes.  I thought CS5 was a bad release CS6 has surpassed it for sure.  I'm waiting for a fix to come out for now CS3 is the way to go.
    Adobe whatever happened to regression testing before releasing a new version.   Have you replaced the expense hoping users doing beta testing will do that for you. I wait for new releases for I do not want to be a beta tester.   IMO your CS6 release is a beta you made us pay for.

    1.1
    Pasting of regular text results in double-line spacing. Pasting of code with Syntax Highlighting does not produce double-line spacing, but includes line numbers when pasting in a rich text editor window, or results in indented lines when pasting to the command prompt or plain text window.
    1.2
    Pasting of code with Syntax Highlighting includes line numbers when pasting into notepad or to the command prompt. Copying of normal text does not wrap and appears a single line when pasting into notepad.
    3.1
    Selecting of code and copying works, but selected text looks like a tape and is not visible.
    5.1
    Copy works find and does not include line numbers, but the text is indented.
    When pasting text into a rich text enabled editor window, it includes line numbers.
    5.2
    Code in syntax highlighting does not copy blank lines, but copies line numbers.
    6.1
    Only parts of a code segment can be copied, but not the complete code segment. Copy and paste always copies an additional line that was actually not selected.
    6.3
    Copy and paste only copies the code but not syntax highlighting, which can however be can be re-applied.
    8.1
    Applying syntax highlighting now applies a font that is suitable for displaying code.
    However, it is not possible to change the font, if necessary, or apply color or bold or highlighting. Color can be applied, which looks like double-vision, but anyway is removed when posting.
    10.1
    Not working reliably. Sometimes the last line selected is not changed, or only the first line changes.
    11.1
    Sometimes fonts are not displayed properly, for instance, the text insertion point may show Arial, but the text is Courier. There is no clear pattern when this happens or what triggers the problem.
    11.3
    The text insertion point or selected text always reports the font name "font family", regardless of the font applied.
    15.1
    Ctrl-z aborting editor functions under Firefox on Mac OS X. However, Cmd-z, which is standard, works properly. This problem does not affect Safari.
    Issue
    Steps to reproduce
    Workaround
    1
    Copy a couple or more lines of text from a discussion window and paste it into any application or document on your host system. For instance:
    The following may produce double line spacing:
    If there are two or more ways to do something, and one of those
    ways can result in a catastrophe, then someone will do it.
    The following should work correctly:
    If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will
    cause the most damage will be the first one to go wrong
    Use Shift-Return instead of Return to terminate the end of lines when creating text.
    Use a different browser to perform cut and paste operations, such as Apple Safari or Google Chrome.
    2
    Paste some text code into the forum editor window. Select the code and choose Syntax Highlighting:Plain from the editor toolbar (>>). Close and re-edit the thread. It is not possible to place the insertion point below the block of code in order to add any additional lines of code or to add any normal text. For instance:
    mknod compress_pipe p
    mknod export_pipe p
    chmod +rw export_pipe compress_pipe
    nohup split -b 8192m < export_pipe &
    nohup gzip < compress_pipe > export_pipe &
    exp system/passwd full=y direct=y consistent=y compress=n \
    buffer=10485760 file=compress_pipe
    It is possible to insert additional code or text below Syntax Highlighting, provided the frame it is not the end, as shown in issue 7.
    Add any line of text at the end of your code before applying Syntax Highlighting to the lines above.
    Adding code within the frame of Syntax Highlighting works in Safari and Google Chrome.
    3
    Re-edit a post with Syntax Highlighting. It is not possible to properly select any lines of code. An additional empty code line is added and the focus is shifted. The selection mask does not match the actual text. It is pretty much impossible to re-edit Syntax Highlighting.
    Screenshot: http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6121/viun.jpg
    Use Safari or Google Chrome when to re-edit text or code under Syntax Highlighting.
    4
    Every subsequent edit of a post with Syntax Highlighting adds an empty blank line to the code block with an incremented line number. The resulting empty lines (07, 08) shown in the screenshot cannot be selected or removed unless there is text below the code frame as shown in issue 7. Screenshot: http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/5514/cxkd.jpg
    Removing of empty lines woks in Safari and Google Chrome.
    5
    When browsing code with Syntax Highlighting, it is not possible to select the code without the line numbers. Screenshot: http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/6626/j7n7.jpg
    Select and copy each line separately. Or use Firefox or Google Chrome, but note issue in Remark 5.
    6
    When editing, it is possible to copy and paste lines under Syntax Highlighting when selecting the lines, but not when selecting the complete Syntax Highlighting frame.
    Carefully select text without the Syntax Highlighting frame boundaries.
    7
    Empty lines and white space (identation) in Syntax Highlighting are suppressed when browsing, although they exist in the actual post. For instance:
    mknod compress_pipe p
       mknod export_pipe p
    Screenshot when editing the above code:
    http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/673/kmy4.jpg
    8
    Syntax Highlighting changes the font to Arial and it is not possible to apply something more suitable for the displaying of code, such as fixed-width Courier New.
    mknod compress_pipe p
    Arial: 1l0OI
    Courier New: 1l0OI
    Arial: 1l0OI
    Courier New: 1l0OI
    9
    It is not possible to paste any text into the editor window.
    Use a different web browser or downgrade to IE 10.
    Or enable F12 Developer Tools from the Tools menu. Press Ctrl-8
    Change the default document mode from Edge to IE 10. Select Leave this page.
    10
    Create a new thread and type several lines of text. Then select select several lines of text and choose a font, e.g. Courier New. Not all selected lines are changed and only a couple of lines remain highlighted. For instance:
    It is difficult to prove the existence of aliens.
    Photos exist with aliens, but they could be fake.
    On the other hand, photos without aliens could be fake too.
    11
    Select a line of text and change the font to Courier New. Then select the line again and it will show Arial. Change the font to Courier New and the text will change back to Arial.
    12
    Copy a URL and paste it into the editor window. The URL will be shown as a hyperlink using blue text. It is not possible to continue with normal writing without changing the text of the link. The text insertion point is captured inside the text of the link when trying to click below the link.
    After pasting the URL, use the arrow key or mouse to move the cursor to the end of the link, then press RETURN and start writing normally. You can than move the cursor to the beginning of the line and use BACKSPACE to move the text up, after the link.
    13
    When replying to a thread and pressing the Quote Previous Message button and then clicking inside the quoted text, for instance, to remove some of the content, it is sometimes no longer possible to move the text insertion point outside of the quoted text back to the normal editing area.
    When this happens it helps to switch to HTML and then switch back to the Full Editor.
    14
    While writing normal text in the editor, it sometimes becomes impossible to edit a line of text. When clicking on any text to move the text insertion point, it selects the complete paragraph instead. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/585/d0v5.jpg. When pressing the "Post Message" button, a dialog appears to "Stay" or "Leave" the page.
    Apparently the editor adds HTML label tags for no apparent reason, which can be seen when switching the editor to HTML mode. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/199/1r5a.jpg
    15
    Copy some text into the editor window. Select the text and choose Syntax Highlighting form the >> insert toolbar. Undo using Ctrl-z. It is no longer possible to use any of the >> insert functions. After that it is also not possible to post the message, resulting in an unexpected error and the content is lost.
    16
    Syntax Highlighting shows several <span> at the beginning and end of the Syntax Highlighting block after posting. This affects old and new posts.
    17
    When changing the width of a table column, entering the 2nd number gets punched into the cell content instead.
    After entering the first number, click in the entry field again to enter the 2nd number.
    18
    19
    Automatic insertion of links to support.oracle.com contains more info, including responses from Oracle staff.
    20
    Change the width of browser window until the editor toolbar appears. It will then stay on top when scrolling through pages.
    21
    Select Syntax Highlighting, Plain from the >> insert menu, then copy and past several lines of text (code) into it. Or, copy and paste the text, then mark the text with the mouse and select SH from the insert menu. Many times, the insertion point is not reflecting it's actual position when you click inside the text. Very often it is also not possible to position the insertion point to the end or beginning of a line using the left and right arrow keys; the insertion point jumps to the next line, even though the end of the line has not been reached.
    For instance:
    The text insertion point [|] is showing up between the words "point" and "is", but when pressing the delete key or entering text, it affects a different area.
    22
    The following is a picture with text and Syntax Highlighting.
    In tables, pressing the delete key will remove or rearrange the hover-up window.
    23
    The original or initial post of a thread is shown with a grey background when browsing. Depending on the web browser application, this background is also copied when doing a copy and paste of the text, provided the target window supports rich text editing.
    Change the target editor window to plain text.
    24
    After resizing a pasted image to the same size than the original, the quality is much worse. The following shows a screenshot of the original and copied image:
    When resizing a picture by moving the image end-points, the editor does no longer show the current picture dimensions (pixel x pixel) as it did in Jive 5. Also when copying a picture between documents, the picture is enlarged and requires resizing.
    25
    Copy and paste content from /etc/oratab, for example:
    The same also happens when pasting the text into a Syntax Highlighting field.
    It is often necessary to use undo (ctrl-z, cmd-z) to get rid of the mess.

    BluShadow I know you are in favor of reenabling code formatting and ditching the Syntax Highlighter altogether. I've also heard that users would prefer the advanced editor to open by default. Anything else on the wishlist?
    correction, I would certainly be in favour (favor to you ) of reenabling code tags, mainly because I work quicker by copy/paste and by keyboard than by having to click through a load of buttons (that currently don't do what they should).  I've not said that syntax highlighting should be ditched altogether, and I'd certainly be in favour of it being there, just so long as it provided a decent formatting that was appropriate, so code actually looked like code, and the ability for people to copy/paste the code out of the forum to their own environment wasn't corrupted with double line spacing (as dude has already mentioned) and the addition of the line numbers it puts in (the line numbers are useful for reference on the forum, e.g. when we want to say "you're problem is on line X", but not good when you copy/paste code out to your environment and have to spend ages deleting them all to get the code to do anything).  If it's too difficult, then removing the line numbers from the code formatting would be preferable to having them there and not being able to copy the code out without them.
    I agree with dude that it would be good to be able to highlight portions of code with bold or colours, which the old forum didn't allow, but this one does, so it's really a combination of old and new that's needed.  And as dude highlights, the supressing of blank lines is a pain as it can make the posting of multiple code commands become all compressed and difficult to read, and is not representative of what we have in our interfaces such as SQL*Plus etc.
    Basic example:
    Copy paste from my SQL*Plus window into the forum (and me applying courier new and quoting it)...

    Obviously that's a basic example; in reality we can be providing a solution to someone, explaining multiple steps and commands to demonstrate their issue and the solution, and having to go back through the code once we've pasted it adding back in all the line spacings, is a real pain and time consuming.
    Certainly, having the advanced editor options available immediately for replying would be better than having to switch to it manually, especially as most people using these forums are going to want to paste code in (what with it being a technical forum and not really a social forum), and the basic editor just doesn't allow for any suitable code formatting (unless the person is mad enough to switch to HTML mode).

  • "Invalid menu operation" Alert bug - CS6

    CS6.0.5
    In the last couple of weeks I have started getting this alert:
    I have tried to pay attention to what I have do to create this alert.
    Occasionally it simply appears on opening a Project.
    Reliably, it pops up when I hit Ctrl > z (undo), and Ctrl > s (save)...
    but after clearing the alert, Ctrl > [Anything] does not make it reappear.
    This happens regardless of the Project.
    edit:
    I have just discovered that if I try to use File > Save
    instead of Ctrl > s to save, the alert appears
    as soon as I touch the File Menu header.
    This also happens with the Clip, Title, Window & Help headers.
    As in the replies in the thread below, there seems to be
    no detriment to any functionality when this alert appears.
    Maybe it's a fairly inconsequential bug, but it does appear to be a bug.
    I had worked in CS6 for almost a year without this alert occurring.
    Invalid Menu Operation Error in CS6
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4913886

    Even if this errant "Invalid menu operation" alert is not
    indicative of any real problem and does not seem to cause
    any functionality problem within Premiere, it is still an obtrusive
    alert that requires the extra steps to clear (at least once).
    If not cleared, any 'real' alert would be missed since
    all it will do is add a new entry to an un-cleared list.
    Any suggestions aside from filing additional bug reports?

  • BUG: Changing "alpha" with AS breaks other property changes on timeline

    I've discovered a bug in AS3 where a Movie Clip that spans 2 different frames, but its properties are different in each frame (i.e. it has been repositioned on the 2nd frame but the instance name is the same), and the MC's alpha is changed using ActionScript prior to moving the timeline from one frame to the other, the timeline moves, but the MC does NOT actually move.
    I'm experiencing this error in a professional project that I'm working on so I cannot post the actual FLA, but here is a little mock up that I made:
    stop()
    currentFrameTxt.text = currentLabel
    var alphaChange:Number = .1
    var alphaMax:Number = 1
    var alphaMin:Number = 0
    alphaUpBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, alphaUp)
    function alphaUp(evt:MouseEvent) {
        box.alpha += alphaChange
        if (box.alpha > alphaMax) {
            box.alpha = alphaMax
    alphaDownBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, alphaDown)
    function alphaDown(evt:MouseEvent) {
        box.alpha -= alphaChange
        if (box.alpha < alphaMin) {
            box.alpha = alphaMin
    leftBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoLeft)
    function gotoLeft(evt:MouseEvent) {
        if (currentLabel != "left") {
            gotoAndStop("left")
        currentFrameTxt.text = currentLabel
    rightBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoRight)
    function gotoRight(evt:MouseEvent) {
        if (currentLabel != "right") {
            gotoAndStop("right")
        currentFrameTxt.text = currentLabel
    On Frame 1 (labeled "left") is an MC with the instance name "box" and the box's position is on the left side of the stage. On Frame 11 (labeled "right") is the same instance "box", but its position has been moved to the right side of the stage.
    I have a pair of buttons ('leftBtn" and "rightBtn") that toggle the timeline between the "left" frame and the "right" frame.
    I also have a pair of buttons ("alphaUpBtn" and "alphaDownBtn") that change the box's "alpha" property.
    If you click "leftBtn" or "rightBtn" before you click the "alphaUp" or "alphaDown" buttons, the box moves left or right as one would expect. BUT if you click either "alphaUpBtn" or "alphaDownBtn", the box does NOT move if you then click "leftBtn" or "rightBtn" even though the timeline is indeed moving (which I am confirming using the "currentFrameTxt" dynamic text box).
    I have tried this example by changing other properties on the 2 frames and they too stop working once you change the "alpha" using AS. I have also tried change other propeties using AS, but alpha is the only property to breaks the other properties changed by moving the timeline.
    Why would changing the "alpha" property suddenly break all other property changes on the timeline?
    Now I know that one work-around for this bug is to simply change the box's position dynamically by setting the x and y positions, but this is NOT an option for this project because it is very important that the client be able to manually position the artwork on each frame by hand.
    This is a serious bug and I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered it before and if they know of a viable workaround.

    I did some more testing by changing other properties of the box with AS and it appears that for most properties, like alpha, x, y, rotation, width, height, etc, if they are changed with AS, then the properties of the MC can no longer be changed by the timeline settings. Changing the "visible" property has no effect, however.
    It seems that this "bug" is not really bug so much as it is a fundamental misunderstanding on my part about the fact that you CANNOT change the properties of a symbol using BOTH ActionScript and timeline properties. I can only change the properties of using either the timeline OR ActionScript because as soon as I change the properties using AS, the MC becomes an AS-controlled object and can no longer be controlled via the timeline. I guess that makes sense, but it is frustrating nonetheless.
    Colin, your suggestion to nest the MC inside another MC is indeed a successful workaround, at least for this little box example (see fixed FLA attached with the "left" and "right" timeline property changes nested inside the box itself) and I will see if it is a viable solution for my actual application. I'm guessing it will not be a problem for my client to simply navigate inside a parent MC in order to adjust the positions of the now-nested MC in question.
    Thanks for the help.
