  • How do I set an image to inline instead of floating in Pages?

In the old pages there was a button in the inspector that said floating or inline. I can't find it in version 5.5... How do I switch to inline? Can it be the default setting?

    Hello. I'm using Pages 5.0.1
I've been trying to move an image back so that text is in front. Your post was very helpful.
    Thank you.
I would like to sugust a few extra steps.
Menu > Arrange > Section Masters > Move Objects to Section Master
This puts the same image in the same area on every page of my document.
However I am working on one image on one page.
To stop the image from appearing on every page these steps are needed:
FIRST       Create a Section Break before and after the image.
Menu > Insert > Section Break
SECOND  Menu > Arrange > Section Masters > Move Objects to Section Master
Now the image does not appear on every page of my document.
Pages does not allow a section break in the middle of a document page. The section break insists on ending the page like a page break. Start the Section Break at the end of the previous page.
Work within the one page section to finish that page.
Some things I don't understand about Pages:
It appears the following options that appear with a right click on an image
do not work. (They are grayed out) :
         “Bring to Front”
         “Send to Back”
They do not work with either of the following selected:
“Stay on Page” and/or “Move with Text”
These also don’t work. (They are grayed out)
They are found in the drop down menu:  (Menu > Arrange)
         “Bring Forward”
         “Bring to Front”
         “Send Backward”
         “Send to Back"
Why are these options grayed out?
    When are they available?
What must I do for them not to be grayed out?
    How are they used?
    My opinion:
Sending an image to the “Front” or “Back” of text or other images should be a simple thing to do.
And it should make no difference whether the image “Stays on Page” or “Moves with Text”
    Thanks

  • Is there a way to make the audio continue when the page is turned?

Can I make the audio continue while a reader turns pages in iBook? With everything I've tried the music shuts off as soon as the page is turned. Thanks for any insight.
    a1foster

Latest: Working in Pages actually seems to work for this! Place the audio file in Pages (drag and drop works just fine), make sure the audio is inline (not floating) export Pages to ePub and run the Book Proofer . . .  once you click to start the audio, the audio plays until the end, regardless of where you are in the book, it keeps playing. Minor victory because you loose a bit of the layout features that iBook Author has, but the audio now functions the way I was hoping.

  • Can't select text in iWeb published pages

I need to rebuild pages from existing ones on the web that were made with iWeb 09.
Text boxes that also include inserted images appear to have lost the ability to have their text highlighted and copied off the web (existing) pages.
Boxes that contain ONLY text seem to be selectable, just fine, but if ANY image has been inserted in the text stream when the page was designed, attempting to select just the text ends up selecting the entire box, which is not very helpful.
Is there a way around this?

Thanks so much for enlightening me on the VPR (very peculiar results) hidden inside iWeb 09.
Whoda thunk that simply adding a simple drop shadow onto text would mess up the entire selectability of every bit of adjacent text in that text box?
That qualifies for the IBotY (Institutionalized Bug of the Year) award. Surely the code writers should have seen this one coming and worked around it by automatically selecting and isolating the drop-shadowed text?
    Now a new conundrum.
After fixing the text by dropping it into in-line text boxes, all is well except (wait for it)
    Just One More Thing.
The boxes, now selectable, show up just fine in iWeb, all neatly packed together the way I want the layout to look.
    BUT
They float apart. The page is tall, but in Safari, at least, some of the boxes are now floating down-page a few or several dozen pixels. See if it does it on your computer here: http://www.hdslrreview.com/HDSLRreview/Cameras.html
    What the?

  • Can't edit in Design tab - "overflow: hidden (double-click to edit)" - cause, remedy?

In the Design tab, the content of some web pages becomes uneditable (where it had previously been editable), even though it is in an editable region in the template. All of the uneditable text has a black background. When the cursor is floated over this text a popup gives the message "overflow: hidden (double-click to edit)". (Note: the text is still editable in the Code tab.) Double clicking in the Design tab often doesn't do anything but sometimes corrects the problem. The following also didn't help:
    1. Making revisions in the Code tab and then refreshing. (The revisions show up in the Design tab but the text there is still uneditable.)
    2. Closing and reloading the page.
The content of other pages that use the same template remains editable.
    What causes this problem?
What is the best method to prevent it and correct it?
    DW CS6

    Thanks,
    Don C.

The problem is always a side-effect of the use of the overflow:hidden style. So why use it? It's tremendously valuable as a way of clearing floats inside a container, rather than adding a float clearing page element. And besides, if you can still edit the content in Code view, why worry? Anyhow, paste this into a new HTML page and try it.
    <div style="height:100px;overflow:hidden;">
<p>This content will not be editable without double clicking on it. Furthermore, any floats contained within this div will be cleared before closing the div, allowing the div to completely wrap its contents.</p>
<p>This content will not be editable without double clicking on it. Furthermore, any floats contained within this div will be cleared before closing the div, allowing the div to completely wrap its contents.</p>
    </div>
In Design view, you will only see two paragraphs. When you click in either of those two paragraphs, you will not be able to edit anything. When you double click you will see the div expand to show all 4 paragraphs, and you will then be able to click and edit at will.

  • Looking for volunteers to write application comparison articles

There are a number of "what's the best?", "easiest to configure", and "lightest", questions that come up frequently in the forums: Image viewer, PDF/document viewer, tiling window manager, floating window manager, desktop environment, text editor, IDE, web browser, terminal emulator, ETC. And while there's very good documentation on some of the individual pieces in the wiki, there isn't as much on comparisons between them.
In order to help keep the forums from an endless cycle of repetition, we're looking for volunteers to add some application comparison articles to the wiki. The entries don't need to be comprehensive on individual programs, and there should be every attempt made to not unnecessarily duplicate what's already been written. Basic information on things like keyboard friendliness, lightness, text and/or graphic mode, and the like is encouraged though.
We'd like to use this page as the starting point:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Common_Apps
Don't use it for the comparisons themselves, but put a link to the articles under the correct category. The page is already good as it is, although it needs both more entries and to be linked to in the Archwiki Table of Contents for higher visibility (please).
Of course the articles are not for flame wars or opinions. It's a place where users can go to get a good general view of how apps stack up against each other.
Report back any progress made here.

There's going to some gray areas, but most it falls into categories. For instance, having separate pages for IDE and text editors is probably silly. Vim is both a text editor and an IDE depending on how it's set up. So is Geany, SciTE, Texmaker, Emacs, ETC. Putting them all together makes sense.
The two categories of window managers (tiling and floating), as well as DE deserve their own pages. What do you do with E17 then? It's as much a DE as it is a WM. If ended up in the floating WM page, as well as the DE page, that'd be fine. And no, it's tiling module doesn't make it a tiling WM.
PDF viewers and document viewers should probably be lumped together because almost all document viewers can view PDF files. Image viewers should get their own page. Same with terminal emulators.
Stuff like GIMP, Inkscape, and Blender probably don't need a comparison page. Even though other stuff can duplicate parts of their functionality, they're pretty much special programs in the Linux world.
Why three pages for WM/DEs ? Put them all in one page, but separate tables or whatever.

  • Set default behaviour for pasting images?

I often am faced with copying images from pdfs and placing them in pages.  I then have to select each image and in the inspector choose 'floating' as pages always inserts as inline.  Is there a way to switch Pages to always insert image data as floating?  It is a pain and a real interruption of my work flow.
    Pages 09.

    Brian,
If you Command-Click in the margin of the document prior to pasting or dragging the image to the document, it will be inserted as Floating. If you leave the Text Insertion cursor active in the Text Layer, the graphic will come in as Inline.
You have the control over this behavior with a simple click of the mouse prior to the import.

  • I want to put A5 text within a border symmetrically on an A4 sheet, any ideas?

How can I put text on an A5 sheet so that it sits symmetrically into middle of  A4 sheet?

    Barry
In the case of trying to paste a Textbox into a floating Textbox, Pages will only paste the contents of the Textbox.
In the case of an inline Textbox in the main text area of a Word Processing document, the inline textbox will by default paste with an anchor and be offset which can be hard to paste text into. It will, unless you are very careful, paste the text outside the inline textbox.
You can fiddle with the inline textbox by changing its wrap on the Toolbar, so it does not have an offset anchor point, but this can actually cause it to pop and disappear from view depending what other wrap objects are around. Pages can be quirky with nested objects.

  • Design view is truncated

I did something (I don't know what!) and somehow caused the design view to cut the page down the middle so I can only see the right half. How can I get it back to normal so I can see the whole page in the design view. I'm using DW CS4.

    Thanks Jon,
It stays truncated whether it is in split view or design view. I shut down DW and re-opened and it stayed messed up. I toggled Split and Design views and tried changing the page sizes. I probably mistyped a short cut and somehow floated the page to the left. But I don't know how to get it back to normal. It is probably something stupid. I'm going to shut down the computer and reboot to see if that does it. I'll let you know. Otherwise, any ideas would be welcome.
    John
FOUND IT. I added a style sheet to the page and it messed up the design view. (???) Other pages aren't doing it. When I deleted the style sheet it went back to normal. Since I just have to add a little CSS so I will embed on page and not add style sheet and that should be OK.
    Thanks Jon.

  • Need Help positioning a graphic over an image.

Trying to position an arched graphic over an image in the header of this site.  The photoshop image provided shows the three separate components. 1. The white content is one image that houses the main header images and the other three images lower on the page. In CSS it is the #inner-content. 2. #main-content is the teal color  3.  The arch image, which sits inside #arch-container.  The CSS is shown here, but when it is displayed in a browser...the #inner-content sits below the arch image instead of up underneath it.  I have tried many variations within the CSS and can't find the solution. Help!

  • Form Button Edit, Radio button

I insert a radio button in a form , it has the button
followed by a long space afterwards, this is the case with all
    other types of buttons.
How do I edit the length of these boxes, particularly with
the radio button. I only want the button, not the length of nothing
that follows. I've been through all properties, but there is not
    option to control length, etc.

Show us the whole page, please.

  • Interactivate buttons on iframe

    Hello!
I am currently working on a webpage, in which I put a
"floating" .html page on top of a .swf page with an iframe.
    my question is-
how to code the buttons on the .swf to inteact with the
iframe(by clicking on the various buttons, only the content of the
iframe should change to a different .html page)?
I tried the code below, but it didn't work(It only opened the
    page in an new window.
'float' being the name of the iframe.
    on (release) {
    navigateToURL(request, '_float');
    thanks in advance!

    Thanks-
i tried it..but it still opens a new page.
I want it to open a page in the frame itself..
    Any other suggestions, please?

  • This forum Poorly designed for a laptop screen

Nothing fits in the screen you must scroll forever. Its bad enough on a 23 inch monitor but just unacceptable on a laptop.

while I admit my website  is not up to pro standards (people here have laughed at it here, but it does what I want), I try as much as possible to avoid to use any height or width settings so that the site look approximately the same whether your on a 12" wide Laptop, or you have a 24" by 24" Computer Monitor. I don't use any fixed point sizes The only thing I worry about is picture sizes.
And I try to center everything so there is equal amount space on both sides I hate worth a Pasion sites that everything justfifed left with half a screen of backround space.
But being left justified seems to be the normal setup with web design applications and, people just rather not be bothered. so you end up witha third of screen of content then two thirds white space. Then you have to scroll a mile down. when if the center everthing and left everything float. most page you could get everything on just one screen with no scrolling up or down or side to side unless you have a lot of content. Now as to PDF pages, that different they are set according to page setup used to create the PDF.
