Floating Text Objects Bound to Fields
Hello!
I have several floating text objects bound to corresponding fields (text and numeric) and they work fine... expect when I hide the fields and then the bound text in the floating text objects also disappears.
Did I miss a step?
Thank you!
Nicolle
I'm attempting to do something similar with floating fields in a form letter. I have set up my form naming the text and floating fields the same, and set the binding to Global. When I enter text in the "Company_Name" field, which has the java script "xfa.layout.relayout();"in the Exit action, the Company_Name value does not appear where I placed the "Company_Name" floating field in the text block on the same screen. If I un-hide the floating field, the value is displayed in a text field at the top left corner of the page.
Here's the link to the form: Dropbox - Non-Disclosure and Non-Compete Agreement - LC Original.pdf
Any ideas on how I can get this to work properly? I have a bunch of similar forms that I have to do.
These screen shots are for the floating field used in the text box.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Dean

How can I embed a text field inside a text object in a fillable form?
I am a new user of LiveCycle and am slowly figuring things out. I don't really understand any of the scripts-- thatlevel is way beyod me. I am hoping that someone can tell me an easy way to insert a fillable text field into a text object. I have been assigned a huge project of converting some very old Word forms into fillable PDF forms. I have done okay with many of them, but ran into a snag with some of the form letters that our employees need to fill out. Basically, there is a block of text (the body of the letter) in which employees will need to be able to type in a date that the recipient of the letter must respond by. I have read up on floating fields and thought that was the solution to my problem, but it seems that floating fields are really just meant to be filled from a data source rather than having info typed into them.
Can anyone help-- I am desperate at this point. There has to be an easy way to insert a fillable text field object or a Date/Time object into a block of text so that the surrounding text will expand and contract around the length of the date entered (this is important, as many of these letters pertain to legal matters and cannot have blank spaces in them).Hi,
You can split your text object into different parts and place text fields inbetween the parts. With a little manuvering, you can make it look good.
An alternative is to place text field(s) outside the letter body (and set the visibilaty to screen only). Use these to populate the floating field.
or
script the external text fields (or the subform containing them) to be "hidden" using the "Preprint" event, then revealing them ("visible") again using the "Postprint" event.
Hope this helps, good luck!

How can I align a text object by the visible text and NOT by its bounding box?
Illustrator CS4.
I am trying to align some text to the center of the artboard. The bounding box is bigger than the text, so when I try to align it to the artboard it doesn't actually center align the artwork as I need it to. The text is needing to be aligned with another text object, so I can't just center align the text and then align to the artboard (which would eliminate the bounding box problem, I think). To make matters worse, the text I want to align has a stroke.
The only way I know to currently align the text properly is to convert it to outlines. This is what I've done, but I need something better. I want to be able to have my illustrator file that has all editable text and then be able to make a separate identical file with all text converted to outlined paths. The only thing holding me back right now is that I can't get the exact alignment while everything is still as text. The solution is to simple to believe and probably why you over looked it.
You make two text frames to exactly the height and width of the text. You position the text in the relative location and then group the text frames then center that group on the artboard.
Like such:
If you ever want to add text that should be no problem but you have to re center. -
Can't add database field or text object to a report (new and existing)
We have Crystal Report 8.5 and when trying to modify an existing report or create a new report, I can't seem to add any database fields or text objects in my report. I get a prohibition symbol (circle with a backslash inside it) when I hover over the report. Has anyone encoutered something like this? Any suggestions? Thank you.
Do you have two monitors?
I had this problem if I tried to open crystal in the second monitor, move it back to primary monitor and it should be OK.

Text Object with a Paramter Field in It
think I am losing my mind. I have a text object on my report for the 'From' and 'To' dates on a report. So that the spacing works between the words, I add a text object to my report and type the word "From" (without quotes). Then, I drag the start date into the field next to the word From. Then I type "To" and insert the ending date.
I right justify the contents of the field. I position the object on the right side of the report (not right at the margins about 1/4" in).
Just above this combined field, is a special field with the print date. It is also right justified and the two fields are right aligned.
The problem is when the report prints, the combined field isn't truly right justified. There are what appears to be extra spaces in it. The fields look similar to this...
02/20/2009
Report range 01/01/2008 to 12/31/2009
They should be perfectly aligned based on the CR layout. I have done some testing. If I remove the text and just leave the dates in the text object, I have the same results. It looks like it has something to do with the brackets that get placed around the parameter field when it is placed inside the text object.
Report range {?datdeb} to {?datfin}
Has anyone else run across this? I have noticed this on several of my reports and decided to try and find a solution.
Could it be a variable font issue? The problem goes away if I use Lucida Console (a fixed width font). It is somewhat better but not perfect with Verdana as the font. It is horrible when using Arial. I can't believe this is an issue that others have not run across. I searched the forum with no luck.
Thanks in advance.
Gilley EstesWith the help of one of our programmers, he suggested using a Trim function in case there were extra spaces in the field. So this is what I ended up doing.
Created a formula with the following:
"Report Range " + Trim (totext({?datdeb})) + " to " + Trim (totext({?datfin}))
?datedeb = beginning date parameter
?datefin = ending date parameter
By using the trim function, the extra spaces that were inserted into the field were removed.
Go figure! Oh well... At least there is a solution.
HTH someone in the future...

Please Help: Problem - Combining database fields in a text object
Hello
Thank you for viewing my thread and any helpful feedback you may provide. I am having trouble with the "Combining database fields in a text object" tutorial in the Help under: Quick Start\Quick Start for new users\Combining database fields in a text object.
After following the steps and previewing, I see the last name, first name stacked on top of each other in preview and design view. I don't know why this is happening. Can anyone point me in the right direction so the text is displayed the same way as it is in the Help?
Thanks
MHi,
I don't think the field is actually in the text object but just stacked on top of it.
When you double-click on the text object, you the cursor should be inside it now. Is the database field in there? If not, then you can drag and drop it into the text object where you want it to go.
You will know if it's going in because the edit cursor will show you where in the text object it will drop.
The other way to do it is to drop the database field on the report somewhere and copy it to the clipboard and paste it into the text object.
Good luck,

Txt formatting issues with fields in text object
Post Author: David Goldman
CA Forum: General
Hi, complete newbie here. I'm working on my company's estimating form. I was requested to combine fields FCITY FSTATE and FZIP into one line that auto flows any given data. So I used a Text object with field calls to FCITY FSTATE and FZIP. This works very well, however my text is always formated to the way it was entered into the database. ie. if some salesman enters his info with the capslock key on, it shows up in my text object that way, and not in my regular fields. The regular fields are somehow formatting the text to cap the first letter of each word. How can I configure my text object to do this? ThanksPost Author: SKodidine
CA Forum: General
Format the fields prior to placing them in the text box.
For example,
propercase({table.last_name}) & ', ' & propercase({table.first_name}) & ' ' & propercase({table.middle_name});
Then place the formula in a text box and then right click and check the box next to 'Suppress Embeded Field Blanks'. -
Can a global variable be used in a text object ?
Can a global variable ( defined in Form Properties ) be used as part of a text object ?
I am creating a PDF document (using LiveCycle ES ) that can be used by multiple departments.
In LiveCycle Designer, I created an XDP with multiple pages.
The form includes a variable varDepartment that I set to the respective department
I then cut individualized PDFs for each department ( not all pages apply to all departments ) & change the department variable.
I would like to have the Title of each page to include the department e.g. Survey Finance department (Page: Main)
There are 10+ pages, each different.
Is this possible ?
Thanks for your help
AubreyThanksjnicholas330,
I am trying to avoid writing any code. Just place it the text - Something like "Survery {varDepartment} department".
Also, I cannot find a floating field object - I am using Adobe Pro 9 with the included LiveCycle Designer 8.2 ES

How I can make the fields belowName_Country) to be floating
I, {FloatingField:Name}, am form {floatingField:country} .......
Thank youHi,
FloatingFields are placed with "Text" objects--not Text Fields. Double click on the text object then and place the cursor in the text where you want the floatingField. Now, click "Insert" up on the menu bar--then click Floating Field. That's all there is to it.
Good luck!

Append hyphen automatically after the wrapping of text in the dimension field

I want to Append hyphen automatically after the wrapping of text in the dimension field.
e.g the text reads "I want to wrap this text". then if cell width exceeds after "I want to wrap" then it should be displayed like this "I want to wrap-" "this text".
Thanks in advance,

Thanks for your input.
Let me tell you what I have understood. I will create a variable having the formula (which i have earlier written) in universe. Whenever i need to use the formula in infoview, I will call the variable instead. That's fine. But again, I will have the same problem. If I do any change in infoview level, the cell width is bound to change as it is not the free standing cell, its a column among othe one. e.g.
A B C
1 2 3
4 5 6
(you can think B as the column). Any change(addition, deletion of columns) will certainly change the cell width of B. So, again I need to calculate the things, which i dont want.
Nita_here: I manually calculated that after 12 characters, the cell wraps the text.
I wonder if there would be a way to do the things dynamically.
Thanks in advance,

Create hyperlink in a General Text Object
Hi,
using transaction SE61 I want to create a hyperlink to an external site in General Text Object BBP_PRIV_STMNT_EXTERNAL. The objective is to hav this link showing instead of the confidentiality agreement in the self-registration page.
Anyone kwows how to do that?
Thanks.I'm in the same boat as you, inasmuchas I taught myself LC. I've tried to replicate your issue. I'm trying to understand where the issue actually lies.
First, I created a new document to test. I dragged the text field onto the document and stretched it to accomodate what I was going to type and entered: http://www.google.com/something
This works as intended.
Next I tried a link similar to yours in our own intranet: http://intranet/WebPages/support.aspx
That also worked.
Now, for what you're actually working with: a SharePoint document.
I tried to paste a link to a document that I created on our Sharepoint site. The link failed! I noticed that the end of the link was truncated (something like 7 characters). So, I tried a shorter link. That worked!
What else is happening when they click the link? Are they simply being asked to "check out" the document? Are you getting an error message like "an error has occured while opening the page"?

SAVE_TEXT problem in adding new text identifier to an existing text object
I have an existing text object "ZEANR" which stores 9 long text data with identifiers 1 to 9. I want to add a new long text to that text object with id 10. when I use SAVE_TEXT function (with same parameters as others except the ID is set to "0010"), it throws an exception saying : "0010" text identifier is not defined for Text object "ZEANR". How can we append more long texts to an existing object ? I Have tried to change the insert parameter of the SAVE_TEXT function but it didn't work with both cases. I am getting the exception at perform chech_key --> perform check_id of the SAVE_TEXT function.
if someone knows the answer I will be preciated. thanks in advance. The text ID specified in the parameter ID or text header (field TDID) should exist in table TTXID. It must be defined there with the text module object.
Go to transaction SE75, select "Text Objects and IDs", Change. Find your text object (ZEANR) in the list and double click. Choose create. Add a new text id (0010) and description. Save. -
Formatting a date that is inserted into a text object
The on-line documentation for inserting a date into a form letter instructs a user to insert a Print Date into a text object. To format the date, the user is instructed to double-click on the date object and then right click and select Format {Print Date} from the menu.
This works when using Crystal Reports 2008 without any service packs.
However, after installing SP1, this feature no longer works. The Format {Print Date} is grayed out and not available for selection.
I am using VISTA Enterprise.
Are there any reasonable reasons why this functionality was removed with SP1.You have a brilliant work around. Thanks!
However, it is still a work around.
I hope someone within the Crystal Reports organization sees this post and either provides an explaination as to why SP1 does not allow you to directly edit a field or that someone realizes that this is a bug and starts the process of providing a fix.
By the way, I duplicated the problem on both VISTA and XP machines. -
How to Change behavior of standard text object&text ID (SE75)?
Hello there!!
I'm struggling with this:
For standard text object C_SHES_ACH & ID 0001 (EHS: IHS Safety Measures) wichs is used as a description for safety measures (CBIH82/CBIH02..) need that when the user create or edit the text, already appears a "Fill in the blanks" form.
For example, in CBIH82, editing an accident log, I go to Safety measures Button, then create a safety meassure, and when i click for long text description something like this should appear:
TEXT 1 (1st Title)
user line
user line
user line
user line
(free amount of user lines)
TEXT 2 (2nd Title)
user line
user line
user line
user line
(free amount of user lines)
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Rgds!!Hii,
I am unable to understand exactly wat you want.
But for free amount of lines : Keep that text under LOOP. Right click on template or window and create a loop and under that loop keep the text ,you can get many lines. or the given below point plzz follow.
1,Use SO10 Tcode to write standard text in Smartform.
2.For long text
method1
Create TEXT node- general attributes change text type to include text
then you can input text name/text object/text id/language
method2
create PROGRAM LINE node - use FM READ_TEXT to read it to a internal table
then use LOOP or TABLE node to display it
For TEXT module(For foreign language)
Tr-code:smartforms -- choose Text module(not choose form)--create a text module object
then enter smartform Create TEXT node- general attributes change text type to text module
input the text module name which created by above
3.
1. take function module name of the smartform.
2. goto se37 and type that fm name.
3. goto attributes tab
4. double click on either program or include .
5. There u can find all the subroutines used inside smartform.
6. search for "perform %move using %textkey-name".
4.Standard Texts are created in SO10 Tcode and stored in STXH table with OBject ,ID and NAME parameters. We can use Read_Text FM to read the text.
check the tables STXH & STXL.
5.
How to CAll Standard Text in Smart Forms
In SFs you can insert the standard tests using the TEXT node. Create a TEXT NODE. Then in the GENERAL ATTRIBUTES of this TEXT node select INCLUDE TEXT in the TYPE option. Then you have to enter the text name, object , ID and language in the provided fields. Then if you dont want any error if there is no text in the corresponding text then CHECK the check box "No errors if no text available. -
How to create a LONG TEXT object in BAPI_ALM_NOTIF_CREATE
Dear experts,
Would you please give me a hand how to create a LONG TEXT object when creating a new Notification using BAPI_ALM_NOTIF_CREATE.
The snapit of my code is below. The Notification is created but without a long text.
THANK YOU!!
Data:
lv_it_longText type STANDARD TABLE OF BAPI2080_NOTFULLTXTI,
lv_st_longText like LINE OF lv_it_longText,
lv_st_longText-OBJTYPE = 'QME'.
lv_st_longText-TEXT_LINE = DESCRIPTIONLONG.
CALL FUNCTION 'BAPI_ALM_NOTIF_CREATE'
EXPORTING
EXTERNAL_NUMBER =
notif_type = 'M1'
notifheader = lv_header
TASK_DETERMINATION = ' '
SENDER =
ORDERID =
IMPORTING
NOTIFHEADER_EXPORT = lv_header_import
TABLES
*NOTITEM = lv_it_item
NOTIFCAUS =
NOTIFACTV =
NOTIFTASK =
NOTIFPARTNR =
LONGTEXTS = lv_it_longText
KEY_RELATIONSHIPS =
RETURN = lv_it_return.Hi
Make sure you have filled OBKEY.
OBJKEY must have the corresponding sort field for the values named below :-
1. QMEL - Notification header
2. QMFE - Notification item
3. QMUR - Notification cause
4. QMSM - Notification task
5. QMMA - Notification action
The combination of sort field of item/cause, item/task and item/action must be unique within a notification. If you leave the sort field empty and the OBJTYP = QME, then a long text is created for the notification header.
