Floppy disk for mac ii ci

Hi
Downloaded a game on to my macbook (Factory) about 8oo k.
I want to get it on an old IIci- but no floppy drive!
Before I go to the bother of doing this would the II ci accept a floppy produced from a newer Mac?
Thanks

Just a few additional notes.
If you do not wish to spend any money on hardware, and no semi-old Mac is available as an intermediary, but you know someone with a PC (many relatively new PCs have built-in floppy drives), the aforementioned PC-disk transfer could be used. However, you might not have access to Apple File Exchange (on the System 7.0.1 or 7.1 Tidbits system floppy) nor PC Exchange (e.g. part of the downloadable System 7.5.3), in which case PC-formatted disks cannot be read in the IIci. There is a solution to this, too. First of all, reformat a PC-formatted 1.44 MB diskette to Mac (just insert it in the IIci; the machine will offer to initialise the disk). Then use a PC utility for Mac disks (for instance, you may want to try a Google search for an older freeware program called HFVExplorer) to copy the downloaded MacBinary (.bin) or BinHex (.hqx) file to the just Mac-formatted floppy on a PC.
As indicated earlier, transfer a .bin or .hqx file as it is. StuffIt Expander will decode the file on the IIci. StuffIt Expander 4.0.1 for Macintosh can be obtained like this via a PC: Download the MACDISK.EXE file here onto the PC. Prepare an empty PC-formatted 1.44 MB diskette via the FORMAT A: command in DOS or the "Full" formatting option under Windows (this is important). Launch the MACDISK.EXE program on the PC. Follow the on-screen directions. When ready, immediately eject the disk. The automatic result will be a Mac-formatted floppy, complete with a StuffIt Expander installer.

Generally, it's ok to install on two machines as long as they are both yours and you only use one version at a time.

  • How to create 800K disks for Mac Plus

I've acquired a Mac Plus in good working condition, but it's just standalone. Eventually I want to network it, but for right now, is there a way to use my Mac Mini or a PC to create 800k disks for the Mac Plus? Things like OS upgrades and other software are available out on the net, but I can't get them to the Plus. I've tried a USB floppy disk drive on the Mini, but it only works with HD diskettes.

    sacsr,
"Can I take MacPlus-appropriate software from the internet, burn it on a CD on my Mac Mini, and load it into the Mac Plus?
Yes! : ) That simple. The Plus was the first 'business Mac' and I loved it until I got a dual floppy SE with an external SCSI HD and an excellerator card with a math co-processor. It was a very capable computer. But, as soon as you used a faster Mac, you never went back to the Plus. You could fix lunch while waiting for disk swapping to boot and load MS Word 3.
What we are saying is that the SCSI bus on the Mac Plus has far more options available for someone shopping for resources.
We have over 300 Macs of almost every model. We have been given over 100 floppy drives. We shop at government surplus stores and auctions. In all that stuff, we only have a couple of 800 k drives but hundreds of SCSI devices. They are SO much easier to find and are so much cheaper to buy and customize.
If you can find a Macintosh 800K (M131) floppy drive, great. Then you also have the problem of finding double density floppy disks ( high density disks with tape over the hole are not reliable in the older drives.)
here is a website with the whole list:
    http://www.mandrake.demon.co.uk/Apple/drives.html
I remember buying an 800k floppy drive new in 1986 for several hundred Dollars. The external CD-ROM drives sold for $300.
It will probably be much easier to find an Apple 300 or 600i CD-ROM drive that should read CDs burned in your modern Mac. Your original question was about floppies. The real question is "How do I get data from a new computer to an old computer." That question offers more possibilities. I am suggesting a better and cheaper alternative. Having fun with older equipment requires purchasing intermediate equipment.

  • Install disks for mac computers 10.4.8 have different codes

    hi
i have just bought mac computermac os x install disk from ebay, i only received them today and already i have a problem.
the codes on each disk are different disk 1 is 2z691 5967 A and copyrighted in 2007
    disk 2 is 2z691 5930 A and copyrighted in 2006.
are these the same harware disk bundle or have i been cond?
    thanks emma

You are correct that you will not be able to install Tiger, either from a retail disk, or anouther systems restore disks on a new macbook that came pre-installed with leopard. I believe this is because of the hardware changes made just after the release of leopard to the macbooks and thus there is no hardware support for it in any pervious version of osx.
As for the origional poster, it would not be odd for the disk versions of your restore disks IE disk 1 and disk 2 to be different. For example my disks are coded as 2z691-6147-a and 2z691-6176-a respectivaly
This is because disk 1 is your restore disk for the actual OS, in my case a november 2007 macbook with leopard, while the second disk is the optional installs with programs such as iLife. Since my macbook came with a different OS then the ones sold before November of 2007 the serial of the first disk will not match that of the second, which will have the exact same software on it as the pre november macbooks and thus why make a new disk, and serial just because of an OS update.

  • Format a windows hard disk for mac

    Hi,
I am trying to format an external windows hard disk for use with my new Mac.  I am using Disk Utility.  The disk was NTFS formatted, I erased it into HFS+ (mentioning that the operation was done in less than a minute).  I tried this many times but it still took the same time.  Does not formatting a disk take a long time? Or this is the way it is done in Lion.
    Thank you. (New to Mac)

Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.app (in Mac OS). Open the app.
Select the disk (choose 'erase' if it its formatted already), and format as 'Mac OS extended (journaled). Click 'format' (or 'erase', depending on which option you are given).

  • How to use an external hard drive and copy files to the disk for mac and windows??

please tell me how to copy files to external hard disk and use it for both mac and windows. there is the fat32 formatting bt i dont wanna use formatting because i already have a lot of content on the exteral hard disk. thank you.

It is simplest to have the HDD formatted to noe common to both Mac an PC.  ExFAT is one.  But to do that will erase all data on the HDD.
If the HDD id formatted NTFS, Mac can read but not write to it.  The solution then is to use a third party application such as Paragon or Tuxera which will overcome that obstacle.  These applications do have mixed reviews.
    Ciao.

  • FAT or exFAT for external hard disk for MAC and Windows

Hello, could you tell me which format I have to format an external hard disk to use with Time Machine in order to recover data on MAC or Windows.
Thank you very much for your answer.

Like Kappy says, TimeMachine only works on Mac's and it formats the drive itself, then it's files are mosly a pain to get at via anything else but TimeMachine on a Mac.
If you want something to backup the entire OS X side of the Mac and that can also be later accessed by a Windows PC (with MacDrive installed to read te HFS+ format), like if your not going to get another Mac again and want to get at your files, then you need a bootable clone drive.
If you want something that backs up only your user files to a external exFAT drive, (to be read on Windows, Mac or Linux machine) then there is plenty of software to do that, one is free called SyncTwoFolders and it does that, it makes sure both folders are Synced in ethier or in one way directions.

    Drives, partitions, formatting w/Mac's + PC's

  • Panasonic KX-p7105 printer won't work on new mac - has disk for Mac OS 9.2

I finally switched to a Mac and am so disappointed that my great laser printer won't work. It prints pages of gibberish. My driver disk is for an older version of mac and won't open. I get a message saying "You can't open the network setup tool because the classic environment is no longer supported." I've since searched the net for drivers and can only find windows versions. Is this hopeless? Should I return my Mac (I'm still within the 14 days and don't want to buy another laser printer).
    Any options?

  • Canon Digital Camera Disk for mac.

I loaded the Solution Disk Ver. 3.0 for our new Canon Camera into my macbook yesterday, We loaded
some pictures out of the camera into the computer and printed successfully. Later, when I turned the
computer back on, none of the programs would open even mail or safari. I deleted a lot of duplicate
pix and old Emails it took about an hour to empty the trash. Then I turned it off using the power
button, waited a minute and turned it back on. It is functioning, but doesn't have the speed, and
sometimes I get the little rainbow twirly thing where my cursor is, So what do I do?

When I try to open the EOS digital solution disk ver 24.1 for my new Canon Rebel T3i camera on my Mac 10.5.8 a notice "this software is not supported by the CPU you are using" comes up
You need to contact Canon - or read the software specs - it sounds like the software you got form them is not supported by your computer
    Do I need this software?
Probably not - exactly what about it do you want?
Can I just download the pictures to my Mac without using the Canon software?
Probably - if you are shooting JPEG - launch iPhoto and in the iPhoto preferences set action when a camera is connected to launch iPhoto and connect your camera - iPhoto should launch and you should be able to import
Some cameras need to be set to mass storage mode - read your camera manual for details and procedures
If you are using RAW then your camera needs to be on this list and you need the versions of software noted - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757 - for older OS versions you can use google to find the list of supported cameras

  • How do you make a startup disk for Mac Pro with mountain lion

My Mac Pro did not come with a disk how do you make one or get one??
If you ever need to repair or reformat your hard drive you need one!

If you still have - or can download - the Lion Installer app from the Mac App Store, you'll find an app titled "Install Mac OS Mountain Lion.app" in your Applications folder. If it's not there, and you've already purchased it, just go to the MAS, look under your Purchases tab and download it from there. If you haven't already purchased it, you'll need to do so using your Apple ID.
Once you have the installation app, get a 8GB+ USB flash drive and download DiskMaker X - just plug in the flash drive, start up DiskMaker X and follow the instructions. You'll now have a bootable installation disk.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • SSD or spinning disk for Mac Mini server?

I'm using a Mac Mini 2cd as a media server (operating over wifi), and the hard drive is dying - I'm going to replace it, and was thinking of an ssd (the os is on this drive, the media is on a large external). Would this provide any real world speed increases?
    Thanks!

I would just run with a standard hard drive then they are much cheaper. You can get a 1TB for about $84
I have an old G4 Xserve that I use to use for that. But, it is just sitting somewhere collecting dust now.

  • 3.5 floppy drive for mac pro

Is anyone using a USB 3.5 floppy drive that works well for them? I would be interested in any drives that work well.

All USB floppy drives work just about the same under OS X, rather slow.

  • 3 1/2 inch floppy disk driver mac osx

I have many 3 1/2 inch floppies. I have a USB 3 1/2 inch floppy drive that works fine, Using Disk Utility, my Intel iMac running OS 10.6.8 sees the drive and the floppy (grayed out) but will mount the floppy. Is there a driver I need that will help with this? Thanks, [email protected]

Depends on the drive. If it uses the standard USB mass storage protocols then it will work like any other USB drive. Otherwise, drivers will be needed.
