  • Premiere Pro CS6 serious error has occurred, crash troubleshooting

ERROR MESSAGE: Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project
Problem: Starting last night Premiere would crash with this error message. This has been happening increasingly more over the past couple weeks, but starting last night and today - it has happened so much that I cannot get more than 5 minutes of work done without it crashing. It has happened on saves, renders, playback, switching active timelines, removing the mojo effect from a clip, and while sitting dormant. I’ve had the computer less than a year and hope that it is not a serious problem with my RAM or graphics card.
Using Premiere Pro CS6 - subscription based with latest update installed
    SPECS:
    MacBook Pro Retina, Mid 2012
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650 M 1024 MB
Software: OS X 10.9.1 (updated after problem started)
(nothing external from factory setup in terms of hardware)
Use an External USB 3.0 7200 RPM drive from OWC for project files
Use an External Seagate 3 TB drive for media storage
Using all DSLR footage from Canon 6D, Canon 5D mk II, and Canon 60D and audio from external recorders (.mov, .WAV, .wav files)
Third-party effects or codecs: Use Pluraleyes 3.0 and Mojo color from Red Giant
I realize this is a general error message and there are several forums posted from mostly more than 5 months ago. I cannot seem to find an answer that will help me. Here is what I have already tried:
    1. updated to Maverick
    2. checked for updates for Adobe software
    3. Cleared the Media Cache
    4. Switched from CUDA to software only
    5. Updated CUDA and switched back to CUDA in premiere
    6. Held SHIFT while starting up (nothing seems to happen or pop up on screen at least)
    Next:
—Going to uninstall Premiere and reinstall.
Any suggestions or possible fixes are great appreciated. What should my next step be?

    UPDATE:
    STEP 1:
Uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere - worked without crashing for the longest time since yesterday. After 1 hour of running - it crashed once again with same error message and same report (see below).
    Same as before:
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000
    STEP 2:
--Updated the RED GIANT plugin "mojo" (minor coloring software)
This worked for less than 10 mintues and then crashed again - but this time with different exeception details (I'm not sure what these mean)
    Crashed Thread:  2
    Exception Type:  EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
    Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000
    Application Specific Information:
*** CFRelease() called with NULL ***
    STEP 3:
Going off of the idea that it may be the plugin causing the issue (since it needed to be updated) I went into the project and deleted all of the files containing this effect in this project file (note: i have used this for 10+ projects on this computer with no trouble).
I thought it was fixed, from about 8:00 PM - 11:45 PM no crash - then as I was playing back clips - crashed again.
I have been loosely following these guidelines: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-mac.html
I am not sure where to go from here - should I continue into the "advanced troubleshooting" even though I'm not sure if any of these things are related.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I have launched two other Premiere Project Files (from previously completed projects) successfully without crashing. I tested a few things in the projects before returning to the problem project. If I suspect there is a problem with the file in particular - how do I find out what is causing the problem?
--I already removed MOJO effects thinking that could be the issue from the last files that were
--I have already gone back to a previous version from a week ago and imported the Sequence I needed. Still crashed.
I have sent 5+ reports to Adobe on the crash. Any feedback into this is much appreciated.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 stopped working, for one user profile

So Premiere Pro CS6 wouldn't open today. Opened fine yesterday, and the days before that. The program didn't crash yesterday or close improperly. I just get the logo splash screen, but I don't see the usual text stream of applications starting up on it. After a long time I get a Windows message saying it can't open the program.
    - I used Bridge to update to the latest version. No help.
    - I made sure Quicktime was updated.
    - I cleared the preferences by moving the whole My Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\6.0 folder somewhere else (as a backup). Next time I tried starting the program it created a new \6.0 folder but that's as far as it went.
    - I deleted AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro. Starting the program recreated the folder, made a Trace Database file but only put two entries in it:
         DynamicLink     1     5
         FE.WinInit.LocPlugins 1     5
And then it stops there. No other files created.
    - Tried starting the program holding the Shift Key, and again with the Alt key, and again with both. No change.
    - Rebooted after every change.
I tried logging out as the video user account and logging in with my personal account, and then Premier Pro opened just fine.
Problem is, I need it to work on the video user account because it was created specifically for our video editing PC. Our company logins also tie into our email and other programs. This one was created specifically so more than one person could share Premiere Pro settings and resources, and there was a battle with our IT to get it because they despise generic accounts.
I've seen other threads here mentioning startup problems but the solutions listed there don't work for me. Manually trashing the \6.0 folder didn't help. I don't have a .pref file or Preferences folder other than the \6.0 one. I haven't made any changes to the PC. The video drivers must be OK or it wouldn't start under the other user account. How do I fix this one?

  • Premiere Pro CS6 and Media Encoder CS6 Color shift on export

    Hello,
I am working on an early 2008 Mac Pro with 2 X 3.2 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon Processors 32 GB of RAM a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB Graphics Card and I am running OS X 10.8.2.
I have the updated Version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and Media Encoder CS6 through the awesome Subscription program that Adobe has started.
My footage is shot with the Canon 1D Mark IV shot 1920X1080 at 24 FPS
I am importing the camera files and then exporting them after I cut them up in to Quicktime Pro Res 422 HQ files
With the technical explination out of the way here is my problem. I have color right from the camera files that I like. and with out doing any thing to change the color I export the footage and get a dramatic color shift. The exported file looks desaturated and slightly green.
I have tried using Media Encoder CS6 to export my footage and that has the same result.
I started my career as a photographic retoucher and use photoshop and light room constantly so I am pretty confident that i know color. I also calibrate my Lacie 526 and Lacie 324i montiors monthly as well as have a sensor that will slightly shift the profile depending on the time of day.
I have attached three screen shots that show the color shift exactly. Now what I need is a solution. What I am not seeing is color settings for Premiere. I am totally open to any suggestions on what I might be doing incorrectly.

I've been doing this for a few years now, and have come to some conclusions. Basically, the difference between still photography and video is like the difference between playing the trumpet and the sax. What you bring to the sax from playing trumpet is your ability to read music, what you know about composition, blending while playint with others, ect. But playing trumpet tells you nothing about how to physically play a sax. So it is with still photography and video.
For starters, your carefully calibrated computer monitor is just that, a computer monitor. It doesn't display the correct working space for video. What you need for WYSIWYG in video is a monitor that can show you the Rec.709 working space. Rec.709 has a different gamut, a different gamma, probably a different white point (D65), different phosphor colors, etc., etc., etc. Enought differences that it's difficult to make a computer monitor that can successfully display Rec.709. Yet there are a couple of computer monitors that can do this (a few Eizos, one HP). The vast majority of people doing serious color correction work in video use a production monitor for just this reason.
But a production monitor isn't enough. You also have to make sure that the signals you're sending the production monitor are correct. There's a sub-industry making signal converters for signals from NLE video cards (usually RGB based) -> signals for production monitors (usually YUV based).
That said, it is certainly possible to get a very good match between your NLE suite and a DVD / BD as displayed on an HDTV. But it's not as simple or easy as a calibrtated computer monitor for still photography use.
This is probably part of your problem. But Quicktime is probably the root of it. Quicktime is, well, I guess the polite way of saying it is that Quicktime is problematic. It gives all kinds of problems. Most people have abandoned it. You should too.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 on Mac crashes when attempting to capture HDV

I've seen this topic previously but without an answer and was hoping for an update. I'm using Premiere Pro CS6.0.5 on a MacPro running 10.9.2
The camera is a Sony HDR-FX7. When in the capture window, the camera is recognized. I can rewind and fast forward but when i push play it immediately crashes and gives the "serious error" notice.  The camera settings are set to HDV in the VCR setting and PremierePro is set to HDV capture format as well.

  • Can choose 5.1 in Audition CS6 for monitoring, but not in Premiere Pro CS6

    System: Z820, Win 7  Ultimate x64
Audio: Creative SoundBlaster Recon3D PCIe, Altec Lansing 5.1 speaker system
    SW: Master Collection CS6
I've been using Premiere Pro CS6 for a while now, but only for stereo video projects. I recently started working on a short film and needed 5.1 Surround Sound as well. I created a 5.1 surround track in Au, and have been able to monitor the sound and surround panning effects in Au during development. Here are the Audio and Channel Mapping settings I used to get my 5.1 to work so I could monitor it:
As can be seen, I've chosen the default MME Device Class here, and all seems well. I have 6 channels identified and mapped to the right corners. I've also confirmed my Master Track in Au is 5.1 Surround. I exported a 5.1 WAV and imported it into Pr, into a 5.1 surround session, confirming that both the track where the WAV file landed and the Master are both 6 channels (and although the order is displayed differently, the content correctly mapped from Au into Pr).
Now, my fun began. When I monitor the audio in Pr, I hear only Stereo. So, I check my channel mapping in Pr, as shown below:
As can be seen here as well, I've chosen the 'default' Premiere Pro WDM Sound. I've learned that WDM is a newer version of MME and encapsulates all the functionality of MME. I'm not sure why Au uses MME and Pr uses WDM. However, as shown, with WDM chosen, I only have 2 channels in the mapping dialog to work with, not the 6 I have (and had in Au). Nothing I can do will produce those other four channels.
As seen in the drop down captured in the above screen grab, I also have ASIO4ALL installed, but that too only shows 2 channels in both Pr and Au. Interestingly, when I hover the mouse over the speaker selection in the ASIO4ALL control panel, it only indicates there are 2 channels (but indicates that there are 6 INPUT channels). The Creative SBZ Series ASIO option is no better, providing only 2 channels.
So, I was off to check my system settings, which are all shown below:
As seen above, Windows knows there is 5.1 surround on the system, and the Test available  in the bottom left dialog proves that each speaker is configured and working correctly. Audition also knows there is 5.1 available on my system and uses it correctly as described earlier. However, Pr refuses to recognize this and as a result I am unable to monitor any 5.1 surround projects on my system. If neither Au nor Pr worked, then I'd mark it down as Sound Card or Driver issues, but since one Adobe product uses the system audio correctly, and the other doesn't, it leads me to believe that it is Pr who is at fault.
So, my question is this: Why won't Pr recognize my 6 output channels like Au does?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Shane

ryclark, I believe you are correct in that Au uses MME while Pr uses WDM, but both MME and WDM (which, according to the Microsoft specification, encapsulates ALL of the MME capabilities, and expands on them) are 5.1 capable. I can play my export from Au as a 6 channel interleaved WAV file as well as an AC3 conversion  of that same file in both VLC and Windows Media Player and get the same 5.1 channel surround sound field I do from Au.
After more research, I'm beginning to think this might be a result of the fact that Pr is 64 bit and Au is still 32 bit in CS5.5 and 6. I don't know if Au CC is 64 bit, but if it is, I'd be interested to know if what I am seeing is reproducible in the CC versions of Pr and Au (to eliminate the 64 bit vs 32 bit argument). Some have suggested that perhaps the standard SB driver is only 32 bit, although it 'supports' 64 bit supposedly, but maybe Pr just can't handle that 32 (faux 64) bit driver. A possibility.
Thanks for the read and response. Seems lots of people are in this boat together. You have recommended elsewhere to use an external audio interface, but just to do 5.1 monitoring (I don't do any live recording to my PC, this if for movie sound post/mixing) sounds pretty clunky. At the least, I think I'd need not only an external audio device with at least 6 channels out, but a receiver to take those outputs, and 6 new audio speakers to connect to that AVR. I currently use my computer's soundcard, as you know, and your standard 5.1 powered computer speaker system attached to that. Not the best, I know, but at this point, I'm just going for surround, but THX, so it is sufficient ;-).
    Cheers,
    Shane

  • How to change the language to English in Premiere Pro CS6?

    Hi there,
I recently bought the Master Suite over Amazon, because the Adobe Online Store seemed broken (Unknown Errors after ordering and a Telephone Number which you couldn't call) and I really needed it before the end of the year (Tax Reasons). So now I got the German Version. I want it to be in English because the Translations are sometimes really bad and also most of the Tutorials and Learning Materials are in English. No big deal I thought, you can surely change it to English. I did my Research and I could change Photoshop and AfterEffects to English. What is left of my most used Tools is Premiere Pro. So:
How can I change my Premiere Pro CS6 to english? There has do be a way?
    Thanks a lot!
Edit: Also I can't request a language swap as recommend http://forums.adobe.com/message/4702895#4702895 because i couldn't order it via adobe store.

I know that the PrPro S/N's are platform-specific, i.e. Mac, OR PC, but I am not sure if they are also language-specific. Others WILL know. If they are NOT, then it should be possible to download the trial for English, and unlock that with your S/N. I have never done a trial, so have never converted to the full-paid with my S/N, but am just thinking there.
As for the Adobe Store, you are correct that they had issues (many related to Adobe cookies in one's browser), and I had to make a purchase, about the same time that you did, from another browser.
With your invoice and S/N, Adobe Customer Support (not Technical Support), should either be able to help you, or give you the definitive answer to your question. If you bought directly FROM Amazon, they are a certified reseller, so that should not be a problem. If you bought from someone else, just THROUGH Amazon, then there could be a problem.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Adobe Premiere pro cs6 Crashing on Laucher.  No error message

OHHH my head hurts, Adobe Premiere pro cs6 no longer works.  I was working on a project and i accidentally shut off my computer, upon rebooting i found myself unable to turn on Adobe Premiere.  It brings up the laucher, it does not load any codecs, fonts, etc.  you know what i mean the really fast list that goes by.  My gpu is supported, i have did the cuda core trick, i have deleted my properites, and reinstalled, nothing.  I even cleaned my entire computer of adobe folders and the what not, used the cleaner tool to uninstall everything to do with adobe, and reinstalled it all.  Still no luck.  I installed the trial of photoshop to see if it worked and it worked perfectly fine.  Adobe encore, and encoder also do not work.  I have checked my graphics drivers, they are fine and not on a beta driver.  I also did not make any changes to my system before trying to open it.  I have system restored back before it happened by and day, still no luck.  I have opened it about 50 times to make sure that it didnt need to black list or anything.  I have even ran the license repair tool, I REALLY need help, i was working on a large project with a deadline.  Please for the love of everything holy throw whatever suggestion you got at me besides a system reformat, which is my last option and i want to make sure i have tried everything before i do that

    >accidentally shut off my computer
1st, very basic question... Windows or Mac?
-See the Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/message/4200840 for what you need to say when you ask a question
2nd question... HOW did you shut off your computer?
For Windows (I don't do Mac) there is generally a "graceful" shut down when you push the power button, since the power button on modern computers is not DIRECTLY connected to the power supply, it goes through a motherboard control circuit that tells the power supply to shut down only AFTER all open programs are closed
If you hit some kine of external power switch (rocker switch on a surge protector, for instance) so power was ABRUPTLY cut off... you very likely have a corrupted Windows System Registry... and that would require a complete hard drive formatting and reinstall of everything to fix the problem

  • VHS - DVD Recorder - PC - Premiere Pro CS6: Workflow Questions

    Hello,
I hope I have this posted in the correct place. I am seeking advice and suggestions for VHS tape to digital transfers. Here is my current workflow:
VHS tape is played back on a Panasonic PV-D4744S VCR and is recorded directly (via composite A/V cable) to a Panasonic DMR-ES40V DVD recorder and onto a DVD-R, -RW, or +RW.
The disc is then copied into a Windows 7 folder with all of the contents of its VIDEO_TS folder intact; this folder is saved on several external hard drives for safe keeping.
I then open and import a copy of the .vob files into Premiere Pro CS6, where I minimally scale the video to eliminate the distortions (“VHS tearing”) on the sides and bottom of the VHS source video. The result is a very clear video which fits perfectly in a 4:3 project window on my 16:9 HD computer screen with minimal pillarboxing.
It is at the stage of export where I am stuck.
The final DVDs are going to be viewed on a 16:9 widescreen TV, as well as on an iMac computer. I’ve read all much about interlaced scanning (VHS, Laserdisc, TV) and progressive scanning (computer, LCD TVs), but I’m still not sure if I can make a DVD which will look proper on both TVs and computers. In addition to the scaling, I am using Premiere to add chapter makers and poster frames to the video, which I wish to then export to either Encore CS6 or NeroVision – I love Nero’s animated 2D and 3D menu selections. What export settings should I use in Premiere which are closest to the original, imported .vob files? I’ve exported some test videos in MPEG2-DVD format to folders, but they are huge compared to the original DVDs made on the standalone recorder, i.e., 12.8GB on Premiere export compared to the 4.7GB import.
Are there settings to make the Premiere export as close to the original DVD import of 4.7GB without sacrificing quality? Should I simply import the sequence into Encore as a timeline and let it perform the heavy lifting of automatically compressing the files to fit on a 4.7GB DVD? NeroVision seems to not accept the MPEG2-DVD files; it “sees” only the .m2v video files and not the .wav audio files.
    In a nutshell:
I want to take a raw DVD-R (or -RW, +RW) recorded on a standalone and copy to hard drive, add chapter markers and minimal scaling in Premiere Pro CS6, then export and burn a DVD that will look good on both a 16:9 TV and computer screen.
I'm trying to get this project finished for a soon upcoming family get together. Any suggestions, tips, and general advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
The issue I would have with the workflow is that DVD is heavily compressed for delivery - not meant for re-compressing again. You're re-compressing a file that's already been compressed as small as can be. Most DVD recorders have different quality settings, like 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours. Use the 1 hour mode on the DVD recorder to get the "best" quality source if you must re-edit the stuff. The typical workflow would be to have some sort of capture device on the computer that records a larger, less compressed file to begin with.
As for export from Adobe using Media Encoder, choose "MPEG-2 DVD" of course, and select "NTSC DV" for the preset. Under the VIDEO tab, you'll need to adjust the encoding bitrate according to the video length. A good rule of thumb is to use 560/minutes=bitrate, and I will round down a touch for safety margin. This assumes Dolby Digital audio on the DVD (AME exports .wav audio and Encore converts to Dolby). Note that most folks don't go over 7 or 8, for best compatibility (the max limit is a bit higher, but quality of VHS source is not going to get any better anyway at higher rates, GIGO).
Regarding audio for the DVD, could be that Nero expects ONE file with audio and video. In AME, look under MULTIPLEXING and change from NONE to DVD, this will combine them. Then under AUDIO, choose DOLBY or maybe MPEG will work for you. Use a 192k bitrate for audio if going that route.
Note sure what you meant about the 16:9 screen - would recommend against putting the 4:3 source material into a 16:9 sequence in Premiere in you are, this will do more harm than good. Stay with 4:3 throughout, including the DVD creation - the DVD player and TV ought to know what to do with it. You're actually REDUCING the resolution if you use a 16:9 workflow. Note that if you encode a 16:9 DVD using 4:3 material in the 16:9 frame, and then play that DVD on a 4:3 TV, bad news - it gets letterboxed AND pillarboxed and you end up with a small video surround by black on all sides. Not cool.
I'd stick with interlaced - if you deinterlace the footage at any point, you are essentially throwing away HALF the resolution, which is weak to start with for SD. Most software players will have Preferences settings to let you tweak the playback/deinterlacing at that point, and TVs will handle it fine.
PS - if you use Encore, then just export the .m2v and .wav files using Media Encoder, import both to Encore, and Encore then does NOT recompress the video any further (as long as it fits), only the audio gets the Dolby conversion. Do NOT use Multiplexed files in Encore.
    Hope this is all helpful

  • Have Premiere Pro CC, Need Encore, Can't Get to Premiere Pro CS6

I had CS6 subscription, upgraded to CC a while back. Until about a year ago, I hadn't downloaded Premiere Pro because I don't usually do that kind of video editing. Now I have a video project for my family (a lot of them elderly) that I finally completed. I know I'm supposed to download Premiere Pro CS6 to get Encore, but when I follow instructions to download the previous version, Premiere Pro isn't in the list in my product manager under "Find New Apps." So I can't even download an older version. I have got to get this movie on DVD because most of the people viewing it won't be able to just download it.
There's another link in the forums that takes you to a site where you can download every previous version of Adobe products known to humankind. Doesn't work for me. Goes into my downloads folder and just sits there.
Please, somebody tell me what to do now? I've hit the height of frustration.
    Thanks.

Oh my god. I figured it out. For anyone having the same issue, it was really so simple I'm kicking myself. I forgot I had a freebie CC account for personal use, as well as the paid one for business use. 2 different email addresses for logging in. I was logging in with the free one. You need to have a paid CC account to access the Premiere Pro CS6 download from your CC App Manager. I logged in with my other email address and bang, there it was.
Just for your own edification, Mr. Waller, when a woman comes in and asks a question she probably already is aware of system requirements, etc. You did not answer the question. If you had read fully my question you would have noticed I've already downloaded Premiere Pro CC, so telling me to make sure my machine meets system requirements is a waste of breath. What you did is called "mansplaining." It is the equivalent of patting me on my little female head and sending me on my way to let the big boys do all this techie stuff. You have no idea my background with technology. Mansplaining is neither warranted nor acceptable. Even if you thought you were being helpful, even if you didn't realize that's what you were doing, it is nothing less than sexist and insulting.

  • QuickTime 10.1 Screen Recordings Blurry Once Imported into Premiere Pro CS6

I am doing screen recordings with QuickTime 10.1 that appear to be of good quality until I import into Premiere Pro CS6 and then they display and export very poorly and very blurry to the point that you can't read the text on the page. Any suggestions to fix this problem?

    Hi Kristine,
Make sure that the clips are positioned on the X,Y axis as whole integers, not integers + decimal points. See if that works for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Looking for a trial version of Premiere Pro CS6 (or Production Premium CS6)

I suppose much has changed since Creative Suites started going to Creative Cloud.  I can't say that I am pleased with the idea, but it seems to be making my search for an upgrade rather difficult.   I've been considering updating my Production Premium 5.5 to PP CS6 but figure a trial version of at least Premiere Pro CS6 makes sense.  I can't find the traditional trial download anywhere.. except maybe on the cloud pages.  Anybody know where I can get a trial without all the tribulations? Also, I'm curious about how other editors feel about Adobe and Premiere going to CC?
    Thanks

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Error Message Codec Missing or unavailable?

I know there is already a thread about this... but I couldn't figure out how to add to that thread. I have been googling for like 2 hours and get this figured out! Sorry if this is a silly question, I am very new!
A videographer sent my company a hard drive with video footage he took from our event. I need to split these clips up and import them to Premiere Pro.
    Here is all my info:
Premiere Pro 6.0.2 just updated about an hour ago-
    Mac OS X 10.7.5
I am trying to import and edit footage a video-ographer gave my company from an event. He sent it to us on an external hard drive. I am not sure what kind of camera he used.
I have downloaded RedCode or whatever. Updated Premiere Pro.
The file type is .mov. It plays fine in Quick Time 10, but only the sound plays in Quick Time Pro 7.
The Codecs for this file are MPEG-2 AND LINEAR PCM,  TIMECODE
I also need to split these clips into smaller clips before importing into Premiere Pro, the clips are all between 8-11GB, if you want to help me with that too.

I had the same issue after I re-installed both Mountain Lion and Adobe products. MOV (XDCAM) media was not reading on Premiere Pro CS6. "Codec Missing or Unavailable" kept prompting. Following ComputerNovice25 advice did not do the trick for this problem. But, I was able to fix issue by simply updating my OS. A ProApps Quicktime Codecs 1.0 was included in the update, which added the following video codecs for Quicktime-based applications:
    Apple Intermediate Codec
    Apple ProRes
    AVC-Intra
    DVCPRO HD
    HDV
    XDCAM HD / EX / HD422
    MPEG IMX
    Uncompressed 4:2:2
This update is highly recommended for all users running any MacOSX and any type of NLE.
    Hope this helps.
