Floundering with network connections

I have a G5 iMac, link-sys wireless-G ASDL gate way connected by ethernet, and my mum has a G4 iBook with airport extreme.
Before we were able to connect up mums iBook to my internet connection with no problems, as she only visits a few times a year.
However tonight, no luck. I've been back and tried re setting up her airport connection, which says its connected to the network, however she can not open any pages in safari or access her email. After two hours of messing around by my sister and I we are completely stumped. The computer says its connected, and I ve taken off all security setting from the router, still no internet. Although this is not urgent, or really necessary, it become a niggle! can any one help?
( sorry if my explanations all a bit vague - I have a mac so that I don't need to worry about this stuff!)

On the Mac, go to System Preferences->Network. Choose Automatic as the location. From the Show menu, choose Network Port Configurations. In the list that shows up, make sure there is a checkbox next to Airport. Click on Airport, then drag it to the top of the list. Apply settings.
Then take a look in System Preferences->Network->Show Airport. Click on the TCP/IP tab, and make sure the only selection is to "configure using DHCP". While there, note what IP address is listed (should be of the form 192.168.1.x) and tell us what it is.

Same problem. I can see the itunes store so not a problem with windows firewall. The account is active on my iphone so i know i am not locked out. I can connect the PC to my iphone so i know itunes is working ok. It is just logging into itunes on this pc which doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is that the email address I use for my apple id has been offline for a while and is working again now, I'm wondering whether this has been the case for others who are having this issue?

Upgrading to 6.1.1 hasn't solved the problem with network connection on 4S. Still "No Servise"!

Same here. Everything was fine running on ios 6.0, I don't know what possessed me to upgrade! I contacted O2 and thet went through the usual settings; reboot; airplane mode etc and it works for a while (like 5 mins) then service is losted with the network. I've even deleted the exchange email account and rebooted as read on the internet that this would fix the problem.... guest what....yep no joy! This is clearly a faulty software update and need fixing pronto! I've read that ios6.1.2 will be out soon to fix the firmware that was suppose to fix the initial network problem. When will this be realeased Apple?! It's hardly fit for purpose when I can't make calls or surf the internet.

• Why does my iPhone 5 have so much trouble with network connections?

My iPhone 5 cannot hold a consistent network connection. It jumps all over the place. Back and forth from 4G (att 3G) to EVDO to nothing. I am in areas where my old iPhones have had no problems. I drop calls and have failed downloads everyday. Not what i expected...

I live in NJ. I've had every version of the iPhone. iPhone 5 is the worst. Or is it that AT&T is the worst? I'm still trying to decipher if the problem is the phone or the AT&T network. At times I'll have no bars. My iPhone 5 will go from no bars to the Edge network or vice versa. And I'll have to shut the phone off & turn it back on just to get the bars & 4G back. I don't use the LTE because it drains the **** out of the battery. Another thing I've noticed is that I don't get all my text messages & voicemail notices, at times, hours late. This is very frustrating since I haven't had this problem with any other iPhone that I ever owned. Please help! SIM card change before exchanging the iphone out? PLEASE HELP!

• Problem with network connection

Hi there,
I just installed Solaris 8 on my P-III machine with 256mb RAM. My network is fully supported by NT servers & machines. I chose to have dynamic IP thro DHCP. The network card present is 3COM. The machine boots up normally, gets an IP address & even telnet is possible from outside. But after a while, the connection dies all of a sudden. I am not able to connect to the server from outside or connect from the server to outside. When I restart the machine the cycle repeats.
Though the "ifconfig -a" shows that there are 2 interfaces (network card & loopback)with the IP unchanged even after the connection goes.
Seeking your help,
PTBabu.

calling your ISP is actuallyl a good solution, basically a router just depends on the internet connection distributed by the ISP, if it drops then connection in the router would also drop...
but if it has no problems, you can try upgrading the firmware of your router and try to configure it at the same time..

• Cannot Scan with Network Connected HP Color Laserjet 2840 MFP

Just acquired Lenovo T530 which comes with Windoze 7 installed. My SOHO printer is an HP 2840 connected on LAN and I was able to use scanner function without problems from previous laptop running Win XP.
New laptop total failure as it doesn't see the scanner. Have spent many hours updating and searching for solutions but without any luck. Quite a few postings on topic come up in Google but no solutions. HP site useless as the links go in a loop without getting to an answer.
As T530 is brand new and under warranty I had assumed I would be able to ask Lenovo for help but cannot find how.
Meanwhile if anybody has solution please help.
Budgie_one

Hi Budgie_one, a late welcome to the forum,
I have the same problem with my HP CM1017 colour laserjet multi-function, worked brilliant with XP but unfortunately HP never brought out scanner drivers to work with Win7, printing was all Ok.
I spent ages searching the HP forums where the proposed solution was to install the drivers in compatability mode, which never worked for me, so I gave up and ended up installing the thing in Win7 XP mode. If I need to scan I just start the XP mode and all works as planned.

If you are able to go online from the Hardwired computer then you can login to the setup page of the Router, and click on the Wireless tab and below change the Wireless Channel to 1, and then click on the sub tab "Wireless MAC Filter" if you have enable the wireless mac filter disable it and then try to connect to your wireless network.

• Finding programs associated with network connections. [solved]

Is there a way to find out what programs are accessing the internet at any given time? i know firestarter does this, but i would rather not do it through that if possible.
Last edited by toru (2011-03-24 08:13:01)

you can use netstat with the -p option to show all running connections and programs associated with them. for examle netstat -tp as root will show all outgoing TCP connections with the programs that opened them. Have a look at the netstat manpage for other options like udp-connections, running servers etc..

• Problem with network connection names and cluster

Hi,
Before talking about my problem, I want to apologize if this is not the correct forum, but it is the more adecuated that I have found. Is about a problem in Windows 2000, which I know it is out of support, but in my company I still have to administer several
hundreds of them.
I have several Windows 2000 failover clusters, and all of them show the same problem, which consists of the following:
Each cluster has two nodes. Each node has 5 network adapters. Each adapter hosts a connection name: Lan-1 is the name of the network associated to adapter 1, Lan-2 to adapter 2, and so on till Lan-5 to adapter 5.
Lan-5 is used as heartbeat for the cluster: is connected to the Lan-5 in the other node via a cross-over UTP cable.
Lan-1 and Lan-2 in each node, forms a network team named TEAM, used to access to the nodes for administration via remote desktop.
Last, each node has Lan-3 and Lan-4. Lan-3 is used for the cluster resources, and Lan-4 as a backup, just in case Lan-3 fails.
And now, the strange and surprising thing: if I change the name of Lan-4, or change any configuration of the connection, the name changes to Lan-4(2). If I make any other change, the name changes again to Lan-4(2)(2). I can't get rid of the numbers between
parentesis, and the number of them grows and grows.
Any idea about what is happening?

Hi,
As you mentioned, the Windows 2000 has already stop supported, personal experience is you can try to use the cmdlet ipconfig /all to show if the network adapter name is right
or not, or you can try to remove the lan3 adapter register information (backup first) and driver then restart to monitor the status

• Can't enable eprint even with network connected

Windows 8 computer network is connected but eprint won't enable HP8600. Have followed directions for pushing refresh button. Still disabled.

Try the steps below. Make sure nothing is entering under proxy address.
1. Open an internet browser type printer's IP address.
2. Should bring you to the printer's status page.
3. Select network tab at the top.
4. Left hand side select IPv4 under wireless.
5. Under DNS address Configuration select Manual DNS Server.
6. For Preferred enter 8.8.8.8
7. For Alternate enter 8.8.4.4
8. Select apply. You might get a warning saying this could interrupt connection that's fine.
9. Turn printer off for about 30 seconds then try again.
Let me know it goes.

• Trouble with setting up the network connection

I am having trouble with setting up my network connection on my new laptop, we use a telecom xtra broadband connection for our windows computers in the house. But when i try to put what i think is the right information in the set up it comes up with "network connection could not be configured"

Hi,
you can not connected to sap on 127.0.0.1 ip address it is loopback address for local host.
instead of give the ip address where sap is running.
if you running SAP on your standalone PC/laptop then you need to assign one ip address to that host
use this ip address to connect.

• Tcpip.sys related BSOD in Vista at either wifi/ ethernet network connection with my university

Dear all,
laptop:: Lenovo X61s 3G L7700
OS version: windows Vista business Sp1
tcpip.sys version: 6.0.6001.22167
wifi: Intel 4965AGN. Standard Gigabyte intel ethernet 82566MM
system drivers and BIOS are the most updated driver.
At my 2 homes using ADSL routers, there are absolutely no problems with network connection by wifi or ethernet. However, blue screen occurs when I bring this laptop to university and connect to the network via either ethernet or wifi. This happened to me a few months back. It crashed EVERY TIME when a network connection was attempted. It did not matter whether I updated my drivers on both wifi or ethernet cards. Whenever I bring it to either of my2 homes, no blue screen ever occurs.
It also happens when I attempt to connect to free wifi network in the airport. It crashes again with EXACTLY the same problem. I have to admit that I do not even where to start looking for the problems. System restore did not solve this either. I ran the WinBug analysis. It pointed towards tcpip.sys. My sys ver is at the top of this message.
Would appreciate if someone can point this to the right direction. I am seriously thinking of downgrading this to XP, since it had NEVER happened to XP.
thanks,
VIncent

If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken

Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.

Per my original post:
"When my ATV is connected via ethernet, and I attempt to play some internet radio stations, some will work just fine while others won't. For example, when connected to my home network via ethernet, some internet radio channels (I can't give a percentage because I haven't tested all of them) will play just fine, however, others won't. The ATV will attempt to connect, but the spinning progress bar just goes and goes and goes until it eventually errors out (no error number is provided, it just says that there was trouble loading the content). The funny thing (or not so funny thing actually) is that if I unplug the ethernet cable, and connect my ATV to the network via wifi, those same stations that didn't play when ATV was connected via ethernet, WILL play when ATV is connected via wifi. So, in short, some stations play just fine when ATV is connected to home network, through wireless router, via either wifi OR ethernet, yet some will only play when ATV is connected to home network via wifi. I have found this to be the same when it comes to downloading or refreshing the photos in my photo stream. If I throw new photos in my photo stream on iCloud, and the ATV is connected via ethernet, they won't refresh to the ATV, however, if I unplug the ATV and connect via wifi they begin to refresh."
There are dozens of original threads out there that report of similar - if not exact, issues. I have contacted "Roy" per his request and not heard back from him (if such a person exists). I have "restored" my ATV and rebooted all equipment to no avail. Until Apple gets with it, acknowledges their problem, and fixes it, I am resigned to just having to deal with switching back and forth from wifi to ethernet, and so on.
