Is there a way that when using tables you can flow rows across pages automatically like you can in MS word?

ID splits tables only between cells rows, not mid-row, but it will certainly split a table between frames.

Break table row across multiple frames?

Hi
I would know wether is possible to split a single table row across serverla frames/pages.
I´m using InDesign CS5 and when I try to import a big table from word documments (by using de app or by scripting), if a row is bigger than the textFrame, a blank page is generated with the overflow simbol.
The only way to see that table is by enlarging the textFrame.
I´ve been reading about this problem, and some news in 2004 reported it was a problem wich will be solved in next releases.
Is there any way to work arround?
One option is to split de row in several small rows, but I think the proper solution would be to let the row jump to the next TextFrame (just like word does)

In page 14984 the row with the text "Coruña" span across two pages. Well, in this example, what we did was to convert the table in images. Then the images were put inside each page in InDesign.
This cell is too big to fit in a frameText and it was shown as empty.
Other option would be to split the row before the imporation. In this way, InDesign would, automatically jump to the next page.
The question was if there was any configuration option to implement all this solutions (change the table or convert it to text) without change the table structure.

Can InDesing flow cell contents across pages?

I'm working in InDesign CS5 on a book project that contains a very long table (3 columns by 300+ rows over about 120 pages). The cell contents is all text and the center columns' cells contain some very long passages (the left column contains dates and the right column is short source citations). The table was originally created in Word Perfect -- I coverted it to an MS Word document, checked it and saved it, then imported it into ID using the Place command. All goes along very smoothly until I get to a row where the text in the center cell is very long indeed -- too long to fit on less than one whole page, so ID forces it to the next whole page (see the screen shot below). Problem is, this is intended to be a continuous table. In MS Word, the text in the cell happily flows to the next page. I need to do that in ID, but HOW? Any advise is gratefully appreicated. Thanks. ID will not break a cell across a column or page boundary. About the only thing I can think of to do waht you want would be to add a row to the table, then adjust the height of the tall row manually so the cell goes overset and cut the excess, then paste into the new row.

I can't break a table row between pages (going nuts!)

I'm setting a several page table (one of a few I need to set for a book) with long texts in many of the cells. I'm using CS3 InDesign on a new Mac. I've looked at similar threads (been struggling with this all day).
The paragraph style and table style both specify 0 lines to keep together. There is no cell style.
The maximum height for rows is taller than the page.
The Word document I'm importing from lets the rows break across pages.
When I add a row with vertically overset text, the row disappears. If I increase the size of the frame below the page, the row shows up.
I am ready to run screaming into the night.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

It's one of the limitations of InDesign ...
A bad -- but working -- manual way, is to insert a new row below the offending one and copy as much lines as needed into the new one. (Sigh -- I can't believe I'm actually proposing this.)

Table split across pages

Is it possible to setup Indesign to automatically split table across frames like Microsoft Word do across pages?

Table breaking across pages

I have a table that flows to 4 pages through threaded frames. Is the only way to make the table different lengths on each page is to adjust the frame height? Or can you insert multiple break characters throughout the table to have it break where you want it?

Why not use a hard row break? It's the Table equivalent of page breaks. You can also set Keep with Next Row, and let these handle unwanted breaks.

Flow table cells across collums

I have this table with cells and in that cells alot of content (text) aslong as the text flows on one page as soon als the text of one cell flows across two page there is no content anymore.
I think this has to do with cell text is not allowed to flow across collums.
can some one help me?

That's exactly what it is. InDesign will not split a cell across a frame boundary or column

I have created a table with 2 LOV's , LOV2 is dependent on LOV2.
Here I can not use the general Dependent LOV concept, as these values are coming from 2 different LookUps.
I am not able to fetch the user input for LOV1 (from page) .that is why not able to set the where cluse fro 2nd LOVVO.

It is working fine only for the 1st row of teh table.
I have tried to fetch the value using :

Table row does not flow to next page

Hi,
I am using deep structure table in adobe form but the content is not flowing to next page.
I have wraped the table in subform, Body Page, subform and table all are flowed and allow page breaks with content is also ticked, still the table row does not flow to next page.

Hi Kimaya,
Just drag the table directly on the body page and execute the form. This should take care of the properties required for data to flow on the form.

But, when the table or any element hit the bottom of page, they just flow over it. Also in designer elements don't distribute across pages but just disappear on first page bottom. I want to dynamically distribute elements across pages. What I do incorrect?

Table of contents and the order of multiple text frames flowing across pages

I have a multi-page document,
on each page, there are 2 text frames:
- A text frame for containing a PAGE TITLE
and
- A text frame, flowing from one page to another containing: a MAIN TITLE, a SECTION TITLE, and flowing body copy (on page 1); and another MAIN TITLE, a SECTION TITLE, and flowing body copy; (on page 2)
When I generate a TOC, using the Page, Main and Section Titles styles, the expected outcome would be:
Page Title             1
   Main Title           1
Section Title          1
Page Title             2
   Main Title           2
Section Title          2
But because the Main title and Section titles are all within one flowing text frame and the content flows across multiple pages, and each of the Page Titles are within 2 separate text frames, the actual TOC generated is:
Page Title             1
   Main Title          1
Section Title         1
   Main Title           2
Section Title          2
Page Title           2
...where the TOC lists all the TOC items from the flowing text frame in one grouping first, then the individual free standing text frame title.
QUESTION: Is the only way to automatically rectify this is to combine all the text into one flowing text frame? or is there another workaround?
Have played with the left/right, top/bottom alignment of the individual text frames; also experimented with the object layering, to no avail..

I ended up using a product called InFlow from EmSoftware. The solution offers a plugin to InDesign that builds pages on the fly when there is overset text. The setup is pretty minimual and it seems easy to use. The only drawback that the plugin MAY have is that it does not remove the pages it built if the pages are not needed from record to record. I could not test this myself since my test data did not test more then one record, but when I turned my proof set off, the pages that were built were still on screen. It does seem to work well for what we are looking to do, so if anyone is looking for something that will build pages on the fly in situations where the "Dynamic Story Handling" is not available, I would suggest looking into this.

How to keep together Title + table's line across pages

Hi all, I have a question.
I'm trying to create a .rtf template where I have a table with 4 lines and a title <PROJ_NAME>
I need to repeat this table (with all the necessary information - 4 lines) as many times as the projects' names are stored on the DB.
For example: if the employee has 4 projects, on the report I will see 4 times these table and the relative project name as title.
So, the repeating group mechanism works perfectly, but I am not able to control how the table's lines are splitted across pages....
In other words if I have two pages in my .rtf template and I am at the end of the first page:
1) I don't want to see the title on the bottom of the first page and the relative table above on the second page (title and table splitted on two differents pages)
2) I don't want to see the title and a portion of the table on the bottom of the first page and the rest of the table (1,2 or 3 lines) above on the second page (table splitted on two differents pages)
At the end I'd like to see always title and table together even if the page finishes. If the title + table exced the table's vertical border, it has not be splitted, but rewrite entirely (title + table) on the next page.
The syntax is this:

After the for loop,
take a table (suppose A) with one row and one column. In that table insert the Project name tag. Below that tag, insert an inner table(suppose B) in table A with 4 rows and columns you wish. Now select the outer table A(select the whole table), and in the table properties/Row , in the options , uncheck the 'Allow row to break across pages' property.
end the for loop.

How do I Hide a Row in a Table in a Pages document?

How do I hide a row or column? There is a command to "unhide" but not to hide. Because I cannot hide anything, the unhide command is greyed out - what did Apple do with the Hide Rows command for Tables in Pages? Hide it? lol!
It does not show up in a search of Help - in fact, there isn't even a mention of "unhide" despite there being a command for it!
Why do I want to hide a row? Because if I have an 8 row table in a Pages Template and I only need six of them, deleting the other two breaks all the formulae and inserts #Ref! errors across each formula, rather than automatically altering cell references as other spreadsheets do. In Numbers hiding the cells makes them disappear and does not break the formulae, but this behaviour seems to be missing from Pages.
Or is it me that has missed somethng?

The ADDRESS function constructs a cell address string from separate row, column, and table identifiers.
ADDRESS(row, column, [type], [style], [table])
row: The row number of the address.
column: The column number of the address.
I dropped the comments about type, style and table as I don't use them here.

In short, when the formula is applied in row 9 it behaves like:

The long syntax is required to be able to enter it only once in the header cell as described in the Help and in the PDF User Guide in a chapter entitled "Applying a Formula Once to Cells in a Column or Row".
As we want to use such a formula, it would be odd to destroy its ability using a different formula in a standard bottom row.
More, in a footer row, we may use shorter formulas than in other rows.
In a standard row 10 we would have to write =SUM(D2:D9)
in a footer row we enter only =SUM(D) which add the contents of every standard cells of the column D.
This feature is also described in the named resources.

When I click 'view' , I can "show inspector". From the table tab, I can pull up the "Format". [See below]. I don't see the "Arrange" or "Object Placement Move with Text"
Right now I have the Wrap Text On. When I take it off, It messes up my rows [see second image].
All I want is for my column to flow onto the second page.

1. I have to print a table which can flow upto several pages and after that i have a structure which is having some fields which needs to be displayed at last page i.e at the bottom of last page like the total of all data in the table.
2. I have to print a table in which each row should be printed at different page i.e 1st row which is again a table type can flow upto several pages then 2nd row which is a table type must be start from next page and so on.
How can i achieve these two requirements.

If you use content: flowed + allow page breaks within content, then the rows will be distributed to the pages and the content which is placed in the hierarchy just after the table will appear at the bottom of the table

That means you will use the table of tables (create table of tables in the backend and then just display it in the form). To work with the page break/ pagination you should set up "top of next page" (tab Pagination) for every outer table row.
