Flucuating wi-fi signal shown

If I have wi-fi turned on on my iPhone 3GS at home I find I frequently get a nil or a 1 bar signal. If I go into the wi-fi on/off control and select the icon showing the 1 bar signal within a few seconds it then suddenly becomes a 5 bar signal. Any explanations?

WIFI should have nothing to do with the signal from your carrier service... have you tried doing a hard reset? or a network reset?

  • Poor Wireless signal

I just bought a HP 20-2110d All-in-One Desktop PC. Had so much difficulty setting it up as it had a poor wireless connectivity. Always only showing 2 bars and connectivity cutting off every now and then.
Called HP support this morning and they led me to "device manager" and reinstalling network adapter. But it still showed a poor signal after that. As my neighbour's signal was showing up, the HP help staff suggested that it was due to signal overlap. He asked me to call my service provider and ask for isp signal channel to be changed.
My question is: why is it that other devices such as my handphones and laptops not have this problem? The signal shown is so much stronger and there have been no connectivity problems.

    You are welcome.
Some wireless cards are not very powerful.  It would be good if you could move the router closer to the computer to see if that helps the situation.

  • One day signal is good, the next its shocking!?

Im using a replacement handset, sent out on Insurance via O2, and the singal on it is very temperamental!
It only seems to get a signal straight after it has been switched on, and then when it does it just fades away after 1 minute or so. If I try to ring it from another phone, with 1 bar of signal shown on mine, it goes straight to the answer phone...
Then yesterday, it worked abosoltely fine, sending texts, receiving calls in places I couldnt in previous months.
This afternoon though its back to its crap self! Weird.
    Anybody else had similar problems?
    Thanks
    James

I'm not sure if it is network related, because I have been on O2 for over 6 years and been well impressed with the coverage when using a K800i. I had my iPhone sat along side another phone
All of yesterday comparing signals and this iPhone sucked in comparison.
I'm begining to think that it seems to work better after a full charge, but not sure.
Also, when plugged into iTunes I got a message asking if I wanted to update my carrier settings, which I did... Cud this be something to do with it?
Thanks for ur imput guys, I really need to get this sorted!

  • Decoding NIST WWVB signals with LabVIEW

    Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had code for decoding the NIST WWVB signal from CO.  Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWVB
Sometimes this is incorrectly referred to as the atomic clock.
Since this is fairly old I figured there would be something on the forums but to my surprise nothing I could find.
This is for a specific application where I need a very low cost timing signal outside.  I have a receiver outputting the signal shown in the Wikipedia link above and access to LabVIEW I/O input DAQ, CRIO, sbRIO etc.
    Regards,
    -SS

    Interesting project!
I looks like a few people have tackled decoding the data (both WWV and WWVB) using reciever modules that create a digital signal stream and Arduinos to decode the data.
How about GPS based time? Here is reciever/decoder module that provides a decoded serial data stream:

  • Acquring an anolog signal outputed from a photo detector by DAQ6052E

    Hello there,
Currently, I have a NI 6052 E card and I want to use it to acquire the output anolog signal from a photo detector (PDA36A, thorlab).
Through the oscilloscope, the absolute value (peak to peak value) of the output anolog signal (voltage) is around 50mv. Then, I use the Cont Acq&Graph Voltage-Int Clk.vi to acquire the signal through the anolog input 0 of the 6052 card. The minimum and the maximum voltage are set as -50mv, 50mv respectively. Then, I excecute the vi and use an indicator to demonstrate the acquired the data. The data is constant: 0.049998. Then I highlightly excecute the program, the Error 200279 (Measurements: Attempted to read samples that are no longer available. The requested sample was previously available, but has since been overwritten.) happens.
So i do not know why the anolog signal (voltage) cannot be acquired correctly by use of the 6052E card.
    Thanks,
    Qiang

    Hi, Dennis,
    thanks for your reply.
I am sorry i did not clearly describe my problem. Actually, I want to acquire a sine signal whose maximum amplitude is about 50mv. The sine signal is shown in the scope.
However, when I use the programm to acquire the sine signal through the ai0 of 6052E, I get a DC signal rather than a sine signal.
So I try to acquire another sine signal whose maximum amplitude is 5v and I can get a sine signal through the aio. I attach two waveform graph. Graph 1 is the 5v sine signal shown in scope. Graph 2 is the signal acquired through the ai0. As shown in graph 2, it is a sine signal but it is not exactly the same as the input analog signal shown in graph 1. Can you tell me why?
Besides, if I decrease the sine signal into 1 v, I cannot get a sine signal anymore through the ai0. The required signal become a DC signal. So the card cannot acquire signal lower than 1 v?
    Thanks,
    kaiqujian

  • Does low signal effect speed?

    hi all,
i just received my mbp today and think its bloody brilliant!
just had a quick question though. when i first turned on the laptop, went through the setup which was a breeze. connected to my network, created an account. everything. done.
everytime i turn the laptop on, it connects fine, but unless i'm fairly close to my router, say no more than 10 yards, then the signal shown in the top right hand corner becomes very low. about 1 bar.
there are 2 things i noticed with this. first, when i play itunes over the network, every few minutes or so, the itunes on my computer songs have to rebuffer. and second, the internet slows down a bit.
is there any way to adjust that? my router is set to giving out a pure g signal. its a belkin n1 router.

Try moving the position of the wireless router is you can, away from walls, pipes, cables and anything else that might impact the signal transmission. Also, if you have a cordless phone in the house make sure it's well away from that, it might also be worth changing the Router Channel and Cordless Frequency to see if that helps things.
A low quality signal could well impact speed if there's high packet loss and a lot of re-transmission of data.

  • How to calculate the RMS of a waveform

    Hi there,
I haven´t worked with signal analysis yet, I need to calculate the RMS of the signal shown on the graph in the attached VI.
I don´t need a final solution, just some hints or tipps...!
    Thank you in advance!

The frequency of your signal is not proportional to your sampling frequency (the division is 10.07), so I guess this may have some errors, but I think it can get you started.

  • My Ipad 2 has suddenly started losing wifi connection.

My ipad 2 (3 months old) has suddenly developed a problem that  it loses wifi connection in my house. Laptop works fine from same location. Happened since installing latest apple software  upgrade 1.51. Network reset and factory restore not helped. Works for few minutes then drops out again. Has become unusable. It finds the wifi network fine, latches on to it fine, and have good wifif signal shown on the ipad, but when you go on safari it stalls and won't open the page. same with google ap.
    Please advise.

  • Importing time frame from DV camcorder

My wife needed to import some video for a presentation and it needed to have the original time signal shown on it. We were going to edit (titles etc) on iMovie HD but I could not find a way of making the time signal from the camcorder come up on screen. In the end we had to abandon the whole thing and use a VCR!! Just imagine!
Any ideas how I could get the time signal to show up if we need to do it again?

    Hi Matt,
we had that issue here, seems so, many people need that timestamp...
the keyword searching it is "timecode", it gave my dozends of post in this forum concerning that matter, the search-field is in the upper right....

  • No Internet even when connected to the WiFi or 4G (iPhone)

    Hi everyone,
I have been having an Internet-related problem on my iPhone 5S for a while now.
It started out with seemingly random Internet disconnection even when there is a perfectly good cellular (4G) or WiFi signal shown on my device. For instance, no emails or messages (like Whatsapp or iMessage) are being pushed to my device, or when I try to search something on the mobile browser, it shows that there is no Internet.
One thing I noticed is that when I do a search on a mobile browser, it seems to load for a long time (more than 10 seconds), only to return a 'No Internet' message.
The only resolve to this matter is to restart my device. I would get connected to Internet with no problems whatsoever (until I encounter the problem again).
I tried doing a reset of network settings, and also a reset of the entire settings. I even went on to do a restore as new (without restoring from a backup). This did not eradicate the problem.
I have already had several appointments at the Apple Genius Bar because of this problem. They didn't seem to know the cause of the problem, nor to resolve it; I got the device exchanged in the end. However the new device I obtained started having this problem as well.
Maybe this is another bug that iOS 8 has? I never had this problem before updating to iOS 8.
Thank you for reading and I hope that somebody has an answer to my problem.

No it's not a bug with ios8 I dont have this problem

  • K9n6gm2-v won't run bios

    k9n6gm2-v motherboard
    amd64 athlon x2 5000 cpu
    2GB ddr2 800mhz ram
    cooler master extreme 460w
After assembly, power on, fan, light all ran well, no video signal from either video card or on-board video (after removed video card) and no beep.
Talked to MSI tech support, clear CMOS, power on: a short beep, a screen shown with 2 options: "tab" to run post, "del" to run bios. The mb will reboot itself every 15 seconds or so. Tech support suggest new PSU over 350w.
Bought new psu (cooler master eXtreme 460w), power on: a short beep with the same screen shown,
    - if hit "tab", it does post, then "no signal" shown on screen, after a few seconds, a short beep and the same screen shown (reboot)
    - if hit "del", it reboots itself directly
    - if do nothing, it waits a few seconds, then reboots.
Basically, it can't run bios. Does it mean bad bios? Can anyone help?
    Thanks a lot!
    zlee

Did this system ever run? Is made made up of new or used parts? CPU in particular sounds like it might be bad. Remove MB from the case and test on a clean, dry piece of unpainted cardboard or wood table top. Check for out of place MB mounting standoffs in back of case that don't line up with MB mounting screw holes and may causing a short circuit.

  • Problem Connecting iBook to Internet via Airport

I just bought a used 14" G3 iBook 700MHz w/ Airport card and can't get it to connect to the internet via my home wireless network. The home network has no problems connecting w/ our MacBook, 12" PowerBook and 13" G3 iBook via Airport. My wireless router is a D-Link DI-624M. The new (used) iBook had no problems connecting to the wireless network at our nearby Apple Store and connects to the internet correctly when I plug the ethernet cable directly out of the cable modem into the computer. The iBook apparently has no problem connecting to the wireless network in our house (full signal shown in the menu bar and, when doing the Network Diagnostic process, it shows that the Airport connection is good). But I keep getting the error message in Safari: "You are not connected to the internet." Any suggestions?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions
Does it have this problem at exactly the same time your other computers are connected?
The only time I get that message is when our ISP is having problems or the modem needs to be reset.
Apple's tips for connecting wirelessly can be found here:

    Good luck.

  • Iphone4 wifi shows, refuses to connect?

Just got my phone and just got it activated- connected to my work wifi, and the phone shows the signal as full tilt, but- when I open safari it switches to 3g.
Turning off 3g forces it to edge, turning off edge/cellular data (with wifi shown full strength) gives the "not connected" error.
Have reset/rebooted/etc phone- cannot do so to internet, but have confirmed it working fine.
    Thoughts?
Summary: Wifi icon signal shown, unable to use.

I've pressed every reset option available and tried all the usual things I can think of (Restarting iPhone, Restarting router etc etc)
My 3G works fine on the network, I've never had issues with that.
Only the iPhone 4 is having issues.
    EDIT:
iPhone shows that its connected to the WiFi in the WiFi Networks screen, however it shows its connected to 3G on the top bar.
    EDIT 2:
Attempting to connect to the web after turning off 3G and Cellular Data forces it to show a WiFi icon on the top bar, however, connections do not work.

Hello to all, with my iphone 3g can not connect to home network via wifi. This only happens if I apply protection to the network. Unprotected my Iphone connects fine. Obviously the password to write error-free. I can not figure out what depends on this factor, however, another iphone connects fine. Help me please.

I have a similar, but slightly different problem. My iphone 4 recgonizes my home wifi and shows it under Settings, but will not access it, no signal shown, just 3G.  It will access other wifi signals.  My wife's iphone works fine, as does an ipad and macbook.  This is new for my iphone, about 2-3 days.
Help!  I reset network settings and rebooted the router (Apple), no avail

I was able to setup my new apple TV , but after putting it to sleep, the next day it forgot all my wireless settings and I had to set it up from scratch.  Why won't it remember the network settings?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Do you actually see a weak signal shown on the Apple TV when it is connected to your network. The problem may not be a weak signal, it may be interference from other networks or electrical devices.
