Fluttering top 20% of screen and bad mouse pointer.
I just opened the box of a Pavilion p6-2378, and connected to a monitor (trying both VGA and DVI modes separately). Top 20% of screen keeps fluttering, and mouse pointer is a large black box and difficult to follow. Video card diagnostics dreport no problem. What else can I try before returining the product?
Hello tarti,
That sounds like a strange issue. So putting a second monitor and different cable on the same result. It may be the port on the computer that is the problem.
Your computer has both VGA and DVI ports, have you tried both?

For no apparent reason my Mac (2 GHz PowerPC G5) running 10.4.11 has put a mesh-like pattern over the folders on my desktop and also a band of the same pattern across the top of the screen and down the right-hand side over the dock. (See screen grabs below.)
It doesn't affect any operations but makes folder names and drop-down menus difficult to read through the pattern.
I'm not aware of changing any settings so suspect I must have clicked on something without noticing. How do I get rid of the overlaid pattern, please?Information about my computer is as follows:
Machine Name: iMac G5
Machine Model: PowerMac8,2
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 2 GHz

On OSX Lion i used to drag the window to the top of the screen and get it maximise, and drag the window right or left to show the both beside each other just like windows 7, How to do it on Mountain lion ?
That has never been a feature of Mac OS X, but I believe there was some kind of third-party software that could add that capability. i don't recall what its name is, but you must have had that installed, and it either isn't installed anymore (perhaps removed as incompatible?) or is not working properly in Mountain Lion.

i have a slight crack in my mac book pro screen it is just on the top of the screen and the LCD display is working fine. i was wondering how much it would cost to fix it/ replace it. it is not a pressing matter but if it is cheep to fix then i would like to do so
Most of us wouldn't know that here. Call your Apple Store.

The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup... Restore as New...
Restart / Reset > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Backing up, Updating and Restoring > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these Steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step... Be sure to make an appointment first... -
my ipod touch has on activation required with a lock at the top of the screen and my computer is not able to connect
Mine too, and mine was due to liquid damange (took it outside with snow).
-
On my IPhone 5s, there is a symbol at the top of the screen and it looks like a circle with a lock inside. What does it mean and how do I remove it?
You mean the Control Center. As was said ...slide up with your thumb from the home button and a gray box should open (i.e. Control Center). There you can turn the orientation lock Off or On. You can also use the Flashlight or turn Bluetooth on or off, and other functions.

Blank black screen with just mouse pointer after logging in windows 8.1
First of all On starting the system, it was taking much longer time than usual.. Then after logging in it showed only a blank black screen with white mouse pointer.. had to force shut down (shut down also took longer time).. on starting went to safe mode and ran extensive system check.. HARD DRIVE SMART CHECK PASSED but HARD DRIVE SHORT DST CHECK FAILED...I have the recovery discs and the notebook is under warranty..
Hi
If your hard drive is failing on short DST test then you will need to contact HP in your local region and arrange with HP a repair ( Hard drive replacement ) . You say your machine is still in Warranty then the cost of shipping and repair will be covered by HP .

I have noticed my Firefox browser is having way too many incidences where it is "Not Responding". The browser freezes up for a second quite often and the "Not Responding" message will appear at the top of the screen.
The browser will also not scroll with either the scroll bar on the right nor with the mouse wheel. Both used to work in previous versions of Firefox, but it seems to have gotten worse since Firefox 5 0r 6. The same with the "Not Responding". It is happening more with Firefox 7 than in at least the past two versions.
Anybody else having these issues? Seems like they are hand-in-hand. Thanks for any and all help or advice. It's making me pretty angry since I'm online all day for work.
Just an FYI. At the bottom of my troubleshooting copy/paste is a suggestion to update the driver for my graphics. That was a no-go. I tried that.Thank you for this first reply! I'll have to give this a try later....the main laptop I experience this on crashed not more than an hour after I posted this issue. I'm on a tiny, slow netbook that hasn't had the same problem. Now I'm wondering if I picked up a Trojan on the main laptop and the "Not Responding" message is a side effect of a virus or Trojan.
One of the system .dll files has been corrupted and I'm not being allowed to use recovery discs, previous disc images, or any recovery options. That was an all day sucker yesterday and from what I've read on forums and have researched, it appears I'm going to need to reload the operating system. If it is indeed a Trojan/virus, I'm surprised it made it through my antivirus and firewall. Anything is possible, really.
Thanks again, I'll get back with results once I get the wounded laptop back up and running. -
new desktop, new user of Windows 7. Made Firefox my browser as always, with Yahoo as my home page. There is no tool bar at the top of my screen that says "File - Edit -- History __ etc the way I have always had! I can't figure out how to get this, and I need it! Help!!
Press the alt key next to the spacebar. Do you see it now? If so, click View -> Toolbars" and check the Menu bar. See [[Menu bar is missing]] for more information.
-
Am looking for a simple way to move the mouse arrow to the other screen. Must I go to Apple/System prefs? I assume the mouse arrow and the menu bar should stay together. OK, but how do I access the dock when it is not on the screen with the mouse arrow? Is the Dock unmoveable? What is needed, I guess, is a master screen with mouse, dock and menu bar, and the option to select which screen is master with all those commands available.
You're Welcome...
Another silly suggestion...
Have you done a Restart since you were fiddling around with various settings...? -
Portg R500 - Blue Screen and keyboard mouse are not working
Hi All,
I am using windows XP, well I was not any more due to below problem.
Laptop blue screened and now any time it goes to windows xp screen blue screen comes and reboot the system. Its not working in safe mode at all. Keyboard any mouse are not working. I cannot even go to BIOS.
I tried to plug a USB keyboard but still its same. I cannot even boot from CD.
Please could some one advise what do I need to do in order to resolve the problem.
Thanks in advance.
NysohHey,
How you can test it in safe mode if keyboard doesnt work? I mean before Windows starts you have to press F8 key and then go down to select safe mode. Therefore you need the keyboard
In your case I would try to remove the battery and AC/DC adapter for at least one hour. Then connect both devices again and make sure battery is fully charged. Start your notebook and try accessing the BIOS setup and load the default settings.
If Windows doesnt start you have to do a recovery installation I think. Some Windows files might be muddled up -
Satellite Pro C845-SP4337KL Windows 8 black screen and only mouse's cursor works
Hi,
In one Satellite Pro C845-SP4337KL with Windows 8 is happening that a black screen appears suddenly and only the mouse's cursor works.
If I connect a second display I have tow (2) black screens.
Control-Alt-Delete doesn't work.
If I move the cursor to the left corner the start menu doesn't appears.
The C845 responds throug the network to ping, and I can brow the disc remotly from another PC when the black screen appears.
The only thing I can do is to force the shutdown, and I lose my work.
After that I have to verify the disk integrity and try to recover my files.
This had happen twice.
Thanks for any help.
Cordially, Rafael TravecedoHi
I have uñgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 yesterday and i'm in a litle problem, similar than yours.
When loging in to my account in the principal page after starting up my PC, the password is accepted, but from tht point after, just a Black screen shows. Nothing else happens, except for the fact that my mouse cursor responds with no problem... But there is nothing I can do with a black screen and no buttons or links or desktop neither windows 8 or 8.1 start page..
Did you find any answer to your trouble?
Thkns. Hope that my reply could help, but unfortunetly I'm trouble myself... -

Safari won't open and wheel (mouse pointer) keeps spinning
Hi guys.
I'm going crazy here as everything I've read and tried doesn't work?
I've deleted cache files, history, plug-ins etc etc and every time I try and launch Safari, I keep getting the spinning wheel/beach ball/mouse pointer and safari doesn't open?
I've received the following long error message and it may as well be in Arabic as I haven't got a clue what it means?
Any techies out there who could shed some light "Error message for dummies' style please?
This is the report error.
Cheers,
Marc

/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIToolbox.fram ework/Versions/A/HIToolboxYou installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
/Library/Application Support/VSearch
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
