FLV Preload bug in Firefox for Windows

I have created an FLV player using progressive download that
functions correctly in all platforms except Firefox on Windows. In
Firefox/Windows the movie stops loading as soon as the buffer is
full.
This can be seen by watching the BytesLoaded and BufferLength
values. As soon as the BufferLength reaches BufferTime, BytesLoaded
stops increasing and the video starts playing.
On all other platforms, BytesLoaded continues to grow while
the movie is playing until the entire movie is loaded.
As a result, in Firefox the video will play smoothly until
the buffer is empty, then it will pause while the buffer refills
(during which the BytesLoaded also increases) and then it begins
playing again. This stop/start behavior continues until the
BytesLoaded finally equals BytesTotal and the movie will play to
completion.
Does Firefox require some different coding, or am I missing
something that the other platforms are just more forgiving of? I
believe the server mime types have been set correctly, but I'm open
to all possibilities based on your experience or ideas.
Thanks!
The essential code (minus UI and error checking stuff) is
this:

• How can install the Fractal Image plug-in into Firefox for Windows 7?

I have the plug-in necessary to view fractal images built with the now no longer Iterated Systems program "Fractal Imager." These are files with the .fif extension and the plug-in is needed to view them. The plug in I have is fully functional. The problem I am having is that I needed instructions on how to upload this plug-in into Firefox for Windows.

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

• 64-bit Firefox for Windows

I have been getting OOM crashes with increasing frequency since the FF versions went into the high 20s.
Here are two recent examples:
bp-83e13b3c-d74f-457d-b85d-1b73d2140624
bp-26ecae7c-6318-4f6a-baaa-e47062140623
and one not so recent:
bp-8d49562a-07b8-451a-b65e-8f80a2140410
I would expect OOM problems are directly related to limitations of the memory model of a 32-bit process.
Please promote the nightly 64-bit builds to a supported platform.
For an argument why making 64-bit Firefox officially supported makes technical sense please have a look at Peter Bright's article:
http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/11/64-bit-firefox-for-windows-should-be-prioritized-not-suspended/

jscher2000: yes, the virtual size of my firefox.exe process typically hovers around 3.1-3.3GB. This and the frequency of crashes (60 on this computer this year, predominantly OOM) leads me to believe I am coming up to limits of the 32-bit build.
John99: in my case safe mode approximately halves the VM size of the process so it moves it away from the 32-bit "danger zone"; however, while I am happy to disable all add-ons for a one-off test, I would not do that for my day-to-day use.
Yes, switching add-ons off and keeping a smaller number of tabs and windows open would reduce memory pressure - but these are workarounds, not solutions. If IE and Chrome can keep up with my browsing patterns, shouldn't Firefox also be able to?

Hi annarepublic78,
As per the above mentioned error, your Win CS6 download was not complete, either it was in process or was interrupted. This is the only reason you see the MasterCollection_CS6_LS16.7z.crdownload. Here .crdownload means the download is in process.
Please try to download it again on the Desktop and please make sure that the download completes successfully(without the .crdownload extension).

• I have uninstalled and reinstalled and Firefox for windows 7 will not open. There is no error message--it just doesn't open, even in safe mode. What do I do?

My computer is set to auto update for Windows 7 Home Premium and for Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010. I am also running Norton 360. There was a major update for Office on 12/10/14 that seems to be when my problems started. This month, every time my updates have caused a reboot, Mozilla has failed to open. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times, and it has only lasted a day or two before it crashes again. This last time it will still not open. All the instructions to troubleshoot seem to be based on the idea that the program is open and just has issues. I can't even get it to open up in Safe Mode.
I have tried to reinstall, and it says that it will launch automatically when the install is complete, but it is not working. Since Norton scans every download before it runs, I'm not certain if that is where the problem is since I never get the window that shows the step by step installer for Firefox.
What do I need to do?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. A clean reinstall is not the same as a regular reinstall performed using the built in installer. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

• Is there a nightly 64-bit version of firefox for windows?

I know that you cannot compile a official stable version of 64 bit Windows because you mistakenly think it's enough with the unefficient 32bit version. But what I want to ask you is if there is a nightly version of 64 bit for windows, and if it exists, where can I get it, Zipped or installer (please, I would like binaries; I don't want to fight for hours with many configuration files, compiling process and so on).
PD: Please release a 64 bit version of firefox on Windows. What more do you want to postpone it?
I saw a st*pid answer like «Yep :) Firefox works fine on both 32bit and 64 bit, so no need to worry :) », but this is NOT a solution. I have a 64bit OS, then, I would like to use full advantages and performance of this more modern platform rather than a less capable version. I dont have many GB of RAM and a multicore CPU as a decoration.

Win64 Nightly has existed for some time however they are not supported (like the Win32, Mac OSX 32/64-bit and Linux 32/64-bit are) as they are currently more for to catch breakage/regressions. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Supported_build_configurations
No it is not simply because the 32-bit version works.
The 64-bit Windows builds has still been a work in progress on a number of things that needs to be in order, especially for Win64 Releases to happen.

• How do I download Firefox for Windows XP on an iMac?

I have just installed Windows XP on an iMac (which otherwise runs Mac OS 10.6.3). I want to download Firefox to run under XP on it, but of course I have no browser on that part of the machine, so I tried to download it through the Firefox on my Mac OS system.
The website, being very clever, thinks I want Firfox to run under Mac OS, and that's what it selects. How do I persuade it to let me download the installer for Windows XP?

Thanks Tony.
In the end, I noticed a little link saying something like "All languages and operating systems." Probably the same as your link. I managed to download it through there. OPerating beautifully now (and also apparently with the system, it installed Internet Explorer, so all was not as dire as thought!)
Thanks again!

• How to delete firefox for windows?

program uninstall does not work

Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
#Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

• Please Send me a copy of this system (firefox for windows and also linix) install disc. I have no internet solfware on my computer.

Got virus in internet explorer,(window 7) I can't hook into any wireless connections. I figured that if I have Firefox then I can connect to a wireless hot spot.

First, have your computer cleaned of virus and mal-ware. Many local public
libraries have computers with internet access. Buy a thumb drive. At the library
enter Mozilla.org, when you get to the site, select to download the full installer.
While you are there, download several of the listed programs below.<BR><BR>
Some good news, Microsoft has updates for Internet Explorer.<BR><BR>

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

• Trying to find a mozilla download site to download firefox for windows using a linux version because my windows version isn't working.

There are several sites that offer Firefox downloads.
I don't trust any of them except mozilla.org
But I can't find a download button on mozilla.
I'm using Linux because my firefox on Windows 7 stopped working and the default download seems to be for a Linux version of firefox.
How can I download a windows version?
Why did Firefox stop working. I was downloading a program -- Tunein Radio - and it looked as if it was installing junkware.
I stopped the download but it seems to have already installed something called file opener. I uninstalled fire opener.
That may have caused the problem

hello, you'll find download links for all supported systems & languages at https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/
if you suspect that the problem on your system is caused by malware it is probably advisable to run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner, which are specialised in adware and browser hijackers.

• I can't download any version of firefox for windows 7.

I'm having serious trouble downloading the file for windows. I've tried on a PC with windows 7 using both safari and IE 8. I've also tried with a mac using osx snow leopard with both safari and firefox. The file can't be found. All the other version seem to be there just fine. What's going on?

Great questions. It takes me to a screen that tells me the server can't find the file. Here is the exact message:
"Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “http://mirror.leaseweb.com/software/mozilla/firefox/releases/5.0.1/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%205.0.1.exe” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again."
I've tried coming from various websites, using various computers and browsers. It still gives me this message or one similar.
Thanks for responding!

• Firefox for Windows universal app

Please create a Firefox version for Windows RT/Windows Phone/Windows10/Xbox etc as a universal app. I read about API restrictions on Windows phone 8/8.1 for Firefox from a different thread. I am hoping that with Windows10 this restriction is removed so a universal app for all the platforms can be created. Firefox has been sorely missing from the Windows RT/8/8.1 tablets and Windows phones 8/8.1.
With a Windows 10 universal app Firefox would potentially be able to reach a far greater audience than Windows phone or Windows RT/8/8.1 alone. Firefox is one of the browsers used by millions on the Windows platform daily (32bit and 64-bit as of recently). Please extend it to the other Windows platforms as well.
Thanks

Hi jtletters:
Very interesting idea, thanks for that. I will pass it on to the desktop team (I work on Firefox for Android mostly). I am sure they are at least thinking about it!
