FM 12 crash leads to disastor

Framemaker 12 crashed on me while I was editing a relatively large book ~130 pages. There are many figures, tables and even some imported text. While I was inserting some more anchored frames the file crashed. I reloaded it, and everything looked fine, until I took a closer look and noticed: There are no periods! There is not a single period at the end of a sentence in my whole book! Any ideas for reversing the crash or inserting periods where they need to go? My first idea is to use the wild care search to search for anything that ends with a lower case, a space, and then a capital letter: [abcde...]|[ABCDE...]. I'm not sure how to past without deleting the letters. Any ideas?

Before you do anything drastic, have you tried searching for a period to see if it's just not being shown on the screen (perhaps due to the typeface used)?
With FM12, you can do regex search and replace to maintain components of a find for the replace.

  • Computer Crash lead to severe...Duplicate message: please read this one!

Hi folks....I've already spoken to someone at Apple today who suggested Apple cannot advise because they only advise when a customer has a MAC. So I e-mailed my problem to the Microsoft support forum and they told me that is wrong; that this is an iTunes problem/question and that Apple should be the ones who help me out.
So here's the problem: my computer crashed which meant I had to reinstall iTunes; I tried to sync my iPod/iphone (not that I want everything on my iphone/iPod wiped off, but we'll come to that later!). Anyways, when I plugged my iPod in (it has all the playlists that I lost when my hard drive was wiped clean...I presume I lost them because I don’t see any playlists in the music library on my external hard drive) I got the message “this iphone is synced with another library”. Apparently, since the crash and the reinstallation of iTunes, the iPod can no longer sync with iTunes.
What I don't understand is what this actually means, because the guys who repaired my hard drive had backed up all my data on an external drive, so I do have my original iTunes library on an external hard drive. So essentially, my iTunes library does still exist, but I'm not sure what iTunes is not recognising, etc. And I've spent most of today creating new playlists from the ones on my iPod so I have "sort of" been building my iTunes library back up again.
My main question is two-fold: 1) the Contacts on my iphone are up to date (though not all of them are on my computer); is it possible to sync my iphone (if I am ever able to do that again without losing these Contacts)? and 2) is it possible to “re-establish a relationship" between iTunes and my iphone such that the iphone does recognise the iTunes library as my original library?
I really do not want to sync the two until I am sure everything on my phone will not be wiped off-I have work-related Contacts on it, etc.
The Apple person who I spoke to earlier today suggested I may be able to find a tech guy (Windows) who may be able move/shift “Program files” from the external hard drive where iTunes library is backed up (old iTunes files and folders) to new system/iTunes library to get old info back so that phone/iPod recognises it’s old iTunes library and not new one.
What I fail to understand is: why did she suggest I get some tech person to do that-surely I can do that if it is just a matter of importing all my music back into iTunes or is it more complicated than that? I also wonder if it has to be an exact replica of the original library? I don't quite get what they mean; what is it that differentiates "old" iTunes library from new “empty” iTunes library? Why, even though my music was imported back into iTunes when I reinstalled iTunes today is my iPod not being recognised by this library? Granted, I stopped using my iPod about a year ago and so my music library on my hard drive/that was in iTunes before computer crash was more up to date (and fuller/more complete) than what is on my iPhone. Does any of this matter? I am providing as much info. so that you can help me.
So, coming back to my question: what is it that differentiates "old" iTunes library from new “empty” iTunes library: is it the fact that iTunes was wiped from my computer drive when they replaced the drive, or is it the fact that some music that is in my iTunes library now, may not have been before and therefore the message I get is “this iPod is synced with another library”. I presume I will get the same message if I connect my phone to my computer which I am avoiding doing because I don’t want everything to get wiped away in one “sync”.
Any thoughts on how to avoid losing everything on my iphone/being able to sync again whilst having iTunes recognise my other devices (phone, iPod)?
    Thanks very much in advance...

All the metadata is stored in a database file named iTunesLibrary.itl.
Make sure you have a backup of that incase anything goes wrong.
Anyway - most of the stuff you mentioned, such as artist names, etc should have been written directly to the song file itself in the ID3 tags.

  • Workbench crash leads to server crash? (xpost from configuration forum)

I have two issues, first a workbench crash which I suspect led to a server crash. Please read this in its entirety as I am including the workbench log and then the server log entry. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I have a process with only one service on it - the LDAP service. I can test the service just fine (by using the "Test" button inside the properties for the LDAP service), but I'm also trying to activate the service. When I do that, everything locks up and I have to terminate workbench and relaunch.
It's repeatable as it does this every time I try to activate this process. The .log file under the workbench directory says there is no active service configuration for
service: [amalLDAPProcess]. I am new to this, can you advise as to what that means?
Here's the actual workbench log entry:
!ENTRY com.adobe.workflow.editor 4 4 2009-01-08 14:51:00.332 !MESSAGE got an unknown exception There is no active service configuration for service: amalLDAP Process loading headConfig for category A_Amal !STACK 0 ALC-DSC-023-000:
    com.adobe.idp.dsc.registry.service.NoActiveServiceConfigurationException:
There is no active service configuration for service: amalLDAP Process
I already did configure the LDAP service and when I use the LDAP service in my process, the TEST button returns the LDAP attribute I am looking for. So I believe I have LDAP configured properly. My process basically takes a form, goes to LDAP to get the manager, and adds the manager name on the form.
I gave up for the evening only to discover that today the livecycle server (service) was down and our server engineer was unable to start the service. After a 70 minute startup, it finally came up (and loading workbench and connecting to the server was really slow). Here is the server log entry. The error messages in the Websphere logs indicate a time-out issue, possibly attempting to connect to the datastore.
I started the services around 11:30am, and the application was not up until 12:40pm. Can you please forward the log entries below to Adobe, to see if they can identify the nature of the problem?

Typically, the WebSphere Service Integration Bus (SIB) will have a messaging engine attached to it. This can be a single server or a cluster. In any case, it needs an EXCLUSIVE lock on the JMS tables in the database (they start with SIB...) and currently they can't.

  • Mid-dowload crash leads to problems

    Help!
iTunes crashed halfway through downloading an audiobook. I used the Check for Purchases option to restart the DL, but after it finished, iTunes said it cannot use the files because the originals can't be found. I snooped all around my HD, but couldn't find a trace of the files anywhere. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
      Windows XP

    Hello,
I've got an internal 150 gig drive and several externals. I have it partioned into 3 parts, one for system, one for my artwork and one for my design work.
My system partition is 60 gigs and only contains apps and my font library. The reason I was going to repartition is because I don't have enough space for developer tools after all my apps are installed (my current apps are using about 55 gigs worth of space with the Leopard Install included).
All that being, when you say 25% of my system drive should be free.... that means you think I need to keep a minimum of 40 gigs open on my drive? Jesus that's a lot... especially considering how much space the system takes up already and continues to take up after each update. When I first installed I had almost 15 gigs of free space but the software updates are so heavy now a days... So if my current install with apps takes 55 gigs and you say I need to keep 40 open... that only leaves me with 55 for files.....
    Yikes,

  • System Crash leads to permissions issues....

    Hello,
I had a really bizarre crash last night and I'm a little worried about my system since. Here's what happened:
While working in Photoshop ( bye the way, my start up disc was almost full because of a really big image I was working on )all of a sudden everything locked up and my screen fragmented into a bunch of digital noise, lines, blocks of images, all off set and funky.... and within a few seconds I couldn't make out much on the screen, but I did see the "black box of death" appear in the background saying to hold down the power button... and all the other language versions....
At first look I freaked and thought it was a hardware issue, restarted and it did it again, fragmenting during the blue screen then crashing once the apple appeared. I shut down again and felt the bottom of my computer which was extremely hot, even though it was sitting flat on a wooden desk.
So I let things cool a bit then tried starting in Transfer mode to see if I'd be able to access my data. Luckily this worked so I tried starting from my Leopard DVD and it worked also. I opened disc utility while started from the install disc and ran repair disc. It showed a bunch of numbers that were the wrong value and had to run twice to repair them. Then I tried to fix my permissions and I got the following error:
    2008-08-21 10:06:29 -0400: Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.2008-08-21 10:06:29 -0400:
2008-08-21 10:06:29 -0400: Disk Utility stopped repairing permissions on “System” because the following error was encountered:
The underlying task reported failure on exit.
    2008-08-21 10:06:29 -0400: Permissions repair complete
    2008-08-21 10:06:29 -0400:
    2008-08-21 10:06:29 -0400:
However, once I restarted again, everything loads up fine on my system. When I run disk utility again, I still get the same permissions error though. I've tried running single user mode and doine fsck but that didn't help. I also zapped my pram.
Finally I tried this fix which I found on an old Apple forum post:
I started up from disc, opened terminal and ran this:
chmod 775/Volumes/'System Drive' with 'System Drive' being replaced with the name of my system drive.
Anyway, I just want some advice as to whether or not I'm still in danger, since my system is up and running now. Is this hardware or software? How do I fix my permissions now? or should I do a complete Clean install. I've been running this system for a little over a year now and I guess I'm due to start from scratch
    Thanks for all your help,
    tucky76

  • Physical standby crash leads to peculiar process behavior on primary nodes

Hey all, we had an issue early this morning with our physical standby database in our production environment. It's an odd problem and I thought I'd share it to see if anyone else has come across a similar problem.
Our environment consists of a two node RAC cluster running 10.2.0.2 Enterprise on Red-Hat x86-64 Linux boxes. We have implemented a single physical standby at a remote site using real-time log apply.
Upon arrival this morning I discovered that a large portion of the primary database activity was a wait class event(ARCH wait on SENDREQ). The problem was quickly identified as a network issue between our site and the remote standby. However, the physical standby seemed to be running normal, with no messages in the alert logs regarding network disconnects. Further investigation showed that our log-apply had stopped all together early that morning. It seems the DBWR process crashed around 630am, as per this trace dump:
    *** 2008-02-27 06:24:53.667
Waited for detached process: DBW0 for 300 seconds:
    *** 2008-02-27 06:24:53.667
    Dumping diagnostic information for DBW0:
    OS pid = 10587
    loadavg : 12.11 11.67 8.95
memory info: free memory = 0.00M
    swap info: free = 0.00M alloc = 0.00M total = 0.00M
F S UID PID PPID C PRI NI ADDR SZ WCHAN STIME TTY TIME CMD
    0 S oracle 2448 31813 0 78 0 - 13190 wait 06:07 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh -c /usr/bin/gdb -quiet -x

    /proc/10587/exe 10587 < /dev/null 2>&1
    0 S oracle 2449 2448 0 78 0 - 38780 wait 06:07 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/gdb -quiet -x

    0 D oracle 10587 1 0 76 0 - 43072 - Jan04 ? 00:04:09 ora_dbw0_schclsdb
So what we did was restart the standby server and the database came up fine. We reinitiated log apply services and both databases did sync up. However
we are still seeing the "ARCH wait on SENDREQ" wait event from ARC0 and ARC1 on both the RAC instances.
We tried reseting the connection to the standby database, however did this not clear up the wait event. The system itself, as far as I can tell is not suffering, and redo logs are going across to the standby database without issue. What could be the problem with the ARC0 and ARC1 processes?
It would probably be helpful to mention that we don't actually use the ARCH processes for the log apply unless the standby falls behind. Archiving is handled by the local LNS process and remote RFS service. A quick instance restart would fix it, to be sure, but since this is happening in a production deployment in a 24x7 environment, I'd rather not have any downtime. A service request is of course filed, but since they have not gotten back to me yet and Metalink hasn't been of much help, I thought I'd see if any of you have seen this before. This giant gray blob on my grid control histogram is quite obnoxious. =) Thanks for taking the time to read. Cheers.
    -Jim Henaghan

Just as an update to anyone else who may have this problem, we haven't found a good way to clear up our Archiver issue, so a instance restart will take place. Further research indicates the issue came about from a MRP process crash due to a known bug fixed in 10.2.0.4 (https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:316259464254960300::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,5894403.8,1,0,1,helvetica)

  • Lsregister crashes lead to failed Spotlight Indexing

For the last month or two now, Spotlight will indefinitely sit at "Estimating indexing time". Upon checking Activity Monitor, it can be seen that mdworker is not active, nor is mds consuming any processor time.
Through investigation of console logs, it seems that when the mdworker process is spawned, and lsregister process crashes with a segfault, and mdworker does likewise. This can be duplicated easily by killing the mds process (which respawns immediately and attempts to start mdworker).
Looking at the crash logs for each of these shows a very similar pattern:

  • Weird Crash leads to permission problems...

    Hello,
    I had

    Hello,
I've got an internal 150 gig drive and several externals.
    Yikes,

  • Project crashing caused by Memory?

I am having a program crash problem with Final Cut Pro when working with any number of projects (big or small). One large project (33MB), I cannot even open without FCP crashing. +*When I say crash, I mean that the program quits without notice and all windows disappear immediately without warning (i.e. no spinning beach ball or frozen windows). A dialog box then appears oon screen telling me that FCP quit unexpectedly and offers me a report or send Apple a message.+
This is my set up: I am running Final Cut Pro HD on a Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5 with 4GB RAM with Mac OS X (10.4.11). My OS and all apps live on a 230 GB Internal start-up HD (159GB available) and my projects and all related assets live on a 500GB external Seagate high speed USB 2 Drive (14GB available). No other USB 1 devices are on the bus.
In order to correct the problem did the following in this order:
1- Used FCP Rescue to trash and reset FCP. No effect
2- Used Mac's Disc Utility to Repair Disk Permissions and Repair Disk (both run twice). No effect
3- Copied project file to main start-up drive in order to eliminate possible issue with linked asset. Project crashed FCP at launch.
4- Reformatted start-up Drive and performed clean install of OS and FCP. No Effect. Project still caused crash at launch.
Non of these seemed to work, so I started with a auto-saved backup of the project. I saved it as a separate copy with a new name. It opened without a crash, yet all media clips needed to be reconnected. Hooray! So, I started reconnecting media. As I do this, I reconnect small bunches of clips at a time and click save. During this long process, the program crashed again. So, I restarted FCP and the project opened without crashing. I continue to reconnect media as before. Now it takes half the time to crash again. I use FCP Rescue to trash prefs and restart FCP again, but as the program loads the project, it crashes before it can finish opening the project.
It seems to me that each time FCP crashes with a project open, it damages the project file somehow to the point that it will not open at all. Even after purging program preferences and attempting to reopen the crashed project file. Is this possible? Is there some other cause for projects to crash and or not open this way?
Now I am wondering if it is hardware causing the crashes leading to the corrupt files. I ran Apple's Hardware test and the MAC passes both the fast and long test. I also downloaded Temperature Monitor to check memory temp for overheating. It is running between 74-77˚C (165-170˚F), a few degrees higher during a render test. Does anyone know if this memory temp is an issue or what acceptable tolerances are for the G5 with FCPHD? I am out of ideas and hope that someone out there might have some ideas. +Any advice is appreciated.+

It sounds like you may have a piece of corrupt media (or several pieces of corrupt media). First of all, usb is not recommended for working with fcp. Don't think it's the source of your problem, but...
First, generally speaking, project files should reside on your startup disk and all media on other drives.
Are you using any nonstandard codecs or formats?
Are all your drives formatted macosextended? You might want to run diskwarrior on all drives.
Once the above are eliminated, try this. Copy your fcp project file to your startup drive and disconnect the media drive. Open fcp and launch the project. All media will be offline. Save your project. Reconnect your media drive, and launch fcp and the project. Gradually reconnect your media until you find the problem clips.

  • Photoshop crashes when loading a file or image

Using Photoshop cs3 on a PC with Windows 7 installed.
Major Problem: Photoshop gives no response when opening an image of any sort or psd file which ends out with the options to either close the program or close and find a solution online which gives no solution whatsoever.
PScs3 was working just fine when installed but after installing an NVIDIA plug-in did it start bearing some problems. When loading png files, a window normally appears telling me that Photoshop could not parse the file. After seeing this I went to uninstall the plug-in. The problem seemed to went away but shortly after was Photoshop crashing at random, and I do mean random. Starting Photoshop at first seems to nullify the chances of crashing but after either a short period of time or a long period of time will it crash when trying to open a file. Opening multiple files at once doesn't work either but when opening only one file into PScs3 will it cooperate until opening a second. I'm not sure if the plug-in is what caused the problem but I do know everything from there seems hectic. Every crash leads me opening PScs3 again with all of its settings reset from when I first exited normally.
    Plugin Used:
    Photoshop_Plugins_8.23.1101.1715
    Appications Type; 4,317 KB
    Company - InstallShield Softwere Corporation
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program?
Unfortunetly yes I have attempted this and the problem still occurs towards cs3. This makes me fear that the entire program is glitched.
Do you have any other plug-ins installed?
I've checked and there are no other plug-ins attatched.
This is my last option before seeing to reformat my computer. If there is any input about the topic, now is the time.

Just a hunch: change your default printer to something else (a locally attached printer, not networked) or "PrintToPDF", then relaunch Photoshop and try again.
It could also be a plugin (try disabling ALL third party plugins).
And it could be a bad OS install, a virus, etc.  It may take a while to find.

  • How can I diagnose a Labview RT program crash on cRIO 9073?

I have 2 cRIO 9073 purchased about 1 year apart.  Both are running the same realtime application.  The first cRIO runs fine.  The 2nd cRIO crashes intermittently while executing 1 particular VI that contains 2 timed loops running in parallel (1 collecting data and the other controlling machine movement).  When it crashes, the app stops, web server and FTP stop responding, MAX cannot communicate with the device ( I must perform a hard reset).  After reset, viewing the error log using MAX shows no errors.  I've added message logging to see if it stops in a particular place, but see no patterns.  In some cases, the device seems to be continually restarting (every 2-3 minutes) until it finally hangs.  In many instances, my configurations files (used to store runtime variables) have been corrupted or erased.  When trying to deploy the app on this Rio, I generally must try multiple times because I receive the error, "Error deploying on target".  I have tried formatting the flash and reinstalling the OS many times from different sources.
I'm running Labview 2009, SP1 with the FPGA option.
Any ideas on how to diagnose this problem?  Are there any diagnostic tools to test this device?

Here's a better description of what I'm trying to do.  This system is used to control the head position on a test machine.  I used the LV RT wizard to create the base VI with 1 deterministic loop and 1 non-deterministic.  The deterministic loop schedules 2 different test.  Test 1 is every 5 minutes (collect analog data, read temperatures, calculate new head position based on temperature , drive stepper motors to new position, collect data after moving, then dismiss).  Test 2 runs once a day with a duration of about 4.5 hours (drive stepper motors to user defined position, simulatiously collect data at various rates from 5Hz to .01 Hz, drive head to next user defined position, etc). This test has 2 timed loops running at different rates, one collects data, the other moves the head and acts as a timer to know when to move to the next position.
If I never run test 2, then the system has never crashed, leading me to believe the problem is in the test 2 VI.  The crashes don't necessarly occur in the Test 2 VI.  On some occations 1-2 hours after Test 2 has completed, the CRIO will start rebooting itself (every 2-3 minutes).  This may happen 4-5 times until it will finally hang completely.
Since the crashes happen randomly (it may run for 2-3 days before crashing) I'm trying to find some way of trapping  errors or exceptions that would give me some clue as to what the problem may be.

  • Acrobat X crashes directly after completing first-side scan from Canon MF4570DN (both usb & network)

    Hi all,
There was a time when, blissfully, scanning via Acrobat X Pro worked perfectly. Around 6 months ago, Acrobat X Pro crashes directly after completing the first side scan for whatever documents I have placed in the Automatic Document Feeder (or just the first side if scanning from the platen glass).
The software that comes with the scanner scans fine, and the timing of the crash leads me to believe that this has something to do with Acrobat's image processing/optimization. When I click on Debug, it mentions the error code: 6056
I have tried repairing the installation.
I have tried the tips mentioned in the following thread(s):
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/767290
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4713172
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1050323?start=0&tstart=0
For what it's worth, deleting a bunch of the profile folders (actually renaming them) slowed down the process of crashing, which leads me to believe that whatever the process is that leads to the crash, it comes directly after writing a bunch of those preference folders...
I've been fighting this for 6 months now and it's really, really frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    --Jason

    Dear Mamak,
    Many thanks for the note.
I followed your advice and dowloaded new drivers for my Canon MF4880dw.
The filename was different than yours, because the model was different.
However, I noticed that this last version I downloaded is pretty new (released in April), so I was hoping it would fix the problem. Also, it was the same file for all versions of Mac OS X from 10.5 through 10.8.
Unfortunately, no luck: Acrobat still does not ask me to scan the reverse side. Maybe I should have uninstalled the printer before reinstalling it?
I more or less solved the problem by scanning double-sided documents on Acrobat 7 for Windows (which I also have installed on my Mac), which is not optimal, but at least works.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you again,
    Salvatore

  • IPad Air crashes after upgrade to IOS8.02

ipad air is crashing after upgrade to IOS 8.02. The apps crash leads to restarting of the iPad. Is this a software issue or hardware?
the apps that I use are Facebook, you Tube, chrome and LinkedIn.

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

  • To Adobe Representatives: How do I get my money back?

    Dear Adobe,
I am awaiting the full and official release of LR3.2 so I can evaluate any SIGNIFICANT improvements in performance.
As can be seen by following postings on this list, many people, like myself, are having performance issues on equipment that more than meets the default minimum specification as listed by yourselves for running LR3.0. While no guarantees are given relating to the time taken for adjustments made to be actively visible on the working image, I believe it is unreasonable to expect (in many instances) several seconds to be acceptable. This significantly impairs the visual feedback process leading to over adjustments and costly rework.
Not only are the performance issues difficult to cope with, there are a string of bugs that also effect everyday operability. Personnaly I am experiencing screen flickering, occassional lock-ups of LR3.0 and a complete crash leading to a reboot.
Currently I do not believe LR3.0 to be of sufficient quality to satisfy commercial usage, indeed I am not sure it is actually suitable for hobbyist usage in it's present form.
LR2.x was an excellent product, LR3.x has the makings of being a superior product - but it falls short by a long way.
Undoubtedly, there will be a string of terms and conditions that you can call upon to defend you having to pass any money back, but ultimately you have a moral and professional position to uphold because in good faith I believe I bought the best, built on the reputation of previous versions, in reality I got a lame duck.
So back to my subject header, should LR3.2 not have SIGNIFICANT performance improvements - How do I get my money back?
    Best Regards
    Phil
PS - I have no performance issues with any other software I am running on the LR3.0 working machine.

I would say they have as much control as other software developers. If they say it works on a Win V7 then it should work quite happily with the Win V7 drivers, particularly if the equipment is fairly well established and distributed across the PC main brand developers.

I did, it was called LR3.0 Beta 2 and it worked fine (minus a few of the extra features). They just changed it and now it doesn't which is why I will wait until v3.2 is officially released.
