FM Radio interference from charger

Not sure if this is a phone issue or an app issue or just the way it is issue....   While using the FM Radio app at work with phone hooked to pc speakers I thought I would hook up the charger as to not drain my battery...As soon as I plugged in the charger the radio went to nothing but static...unplug charger radio plays fine.... Is this something that will just have to be dealt with or is this an issue that could be worked around?

My FM works fine. But did not run the exact same test you did.
Used Headphones w/charger.  Sound loud and clear and no static.
Used Internal Droid X Speakers w/charger.  Sound loud and clear and no static.
Sorry, did not use External Speakers. Not set up for that.
It could be the Florescence Lamps in your office causing the noise???  Turn off lights and check.

  • Radio can't charge iPhone 3G

I have this great tabletop radio with an iPod cradle on top. It worked fantastic with my iPod touch. I was disappointed to see that when I sat my iPhone 3G in the cradle I got a message that the phone couldn't be charged by this device.
I guess the pin-outs have changed on the phone connector. Why would Apple change this and render my beautiful radio useless for charging?
    It Just Works. Not.

Yeah, I know, it just makes me mad that this great radio is now essentially useless as a charging dock.
I hear people are having trouble with iPod adapters in their cars also not charging their new phones.
I also have a plug-in charger that you plug the USB cable into. It worked fine on my iPod, but it's no good for the iPhone. No message that time. I left it on the charger thinking my phone was charging up, and the phone actually went dead completely.
Strange that the same USB cable from my iPod can charge the phone on my PC.
    /rant mode off
At least I can get notified of new mail while I'm carrying the phone around. Oops... that doesn't work any more either.

  • Static interference from powerbook and thru my speakers is driving me crazy

I am using the powerbook 1.67, an airport express and klipsh speakers for my sound. there is a mexican radio station that is playing at a very low but very annoying level thru the speakers. I have a 2.4 cordless phone on my desk as well as a printer plugged into the AX. I unplugged the phone and it is not coming from there. I restarted the AX as well as the modem and it's still there. The only way it stops is when I unplug the speakers. So the speakers themselves are somehow picking up this interference it looks like. Any suggestions? It's driving me crazy.

+INTERESTING that there is no radio static from the iPod, but my silver Powerbook G4 sends out the static the second it is plugged in.+
+*and now the speaker company wrote back again*....+
Since the static did not follow the speaker to another source at least you now know that the problem is not in the speakers. I would have the sound card in your Mac checked, something seems to be sending out a strong enough magnetic wave to overcome the shielding in the speakers.

That is unfortunate to put up with.
There might still be some simple cures yet to try.
The entire house wiring may be one cause picking up the source and is using your devices as final output.
    1. I'd look for a power conditioned master brick to plug your PowerBook, and other devices.
USP back up power devices can also condition the power lines noise.
There are all types available as listed:
    http://www.thecablepro.com/cableDetail.php?cID=120&cgID=1
Each of the 12 outlets is individually filtered and double filtered from every other outlet providing maximum component to component isolation.
    http://www.crutchfield.com/ search 'surge'
    2. The Cables: as mentioned where chokes are already in place on them. Most USB come with them.
    3. The Speakers: Not sure, but they must be the self powered type as well from AC wall outlet. That brand is known for high quality.
Could foil the inside of cabinets “Faraday Cage” to reduce radio signals.
    4. AC Outlets: Are they 3 prong grounded type?
Check your fuse box area to see if a ground cable
(roughly 4-6 gauge) is fastened to plumbing, and should be.
You can also pick up a ground fault checker that just plugs into outlet to verify correct outlet wiring. A HomeDepot tool about $6.
    5. Lead from PowerBook to speakers:
If this lead is extra long leading to speakers, it too could gather radio.
If you have extra cat 5 laying around, convert the ends to make alternate lead. Each pair in the cable is color coded like Blue/Blue Wt. These pairs are twisted to shield out interference together with foil rapped covering. Or get shielded cable.
In the old days of Amps doing all the power to speakers, some people would have a pile of wire rolled up behind speaker, and it also made a perfect antenna.
Lamp cords: Make sure these cords are not mixed in with your devices. As in crossing over each other.
Dimmers: If you have lamps on line dimmers, they can go bad over time and cause interference.
Then back to circuit panel and cut off each circuit to isolate other sources.
    Hopefully you solve it.

  • Radio Receiver from Apple Used on Video iPod-Results

    Hello all:
I recently purchased an iPod Radio Receiver from Apple. This is a cord with receiver clip and remote that can turn your iPod Video into an FM radio.
It replaced an old Sony Sport armband walkman.
I am so amazed by the improved performance, I had to post and let folks know that the quality of the reception is so much better over the Sony.  I live in San Francisco and take (ug!) public transportation to and from work.  I have significantly less static and interference with the new adapter and at times it seems like digital radio.
Black would be nice to match my iPod, but the improved performance is worth every penny and outweighs any negatives.  If you are on the fence about it, or have been curious about the quality, don't wait another minute.

This feature is not available on the 60GB 5th gen iPod.
You need a 'Late 2006' model 5th Gen iPod for the search feature.
All 60GB 5th Gen iPods are not Late 2006 models.

  • Radio interference form AppleTV

We have recently moved our home cinema system to a mezzanine in a living room. There was no TV antenna there so we bought a Phillips Wireless transmitter system that sends the TV signal from the antenna point to the TV above. This works really well and we have access to our satellite dish, land terrestrial digital service and even our DVD via the device. There is a problem with the Apple TV which is connected directly to the TV flat screen. The Apple TV remains on at all times. The TV screen shows intermittent static noise and the sound crackles when we watch content that is sent via the Philips device. It does not matter what kind of content it is or which channel we use to connect to the transmitter. It stops immediately if we pull the plug on the apple TV. It also seems to start after the Apple TV has rebooted (after we plug it in again) I have also tried to plug the Apple TV into a second socket but to no effect. The interference is there as long as it is on. It does not produce interference when in use (i.e. while watching content from the Apple TV) but only when watching content from the Philips device i.e. sent via the SCART cable. Is there any way I can shield the Apple TV and or the Philips receiver (though this may not be a good idea since it has to receive a radio signal from the transmitter).

change the channel that your router is on 'til you find one that doesn't interfere.
if you are on an airport extreme or time capsule and if you are using 802.11n... in the airport utility (manual > airport > wireless) you need to press on option key while pressing on channel to choose the channels or else you just get automatic as an option... i'm thinking the Phillips system is using 5GHz so you could get right out of it's way by using 2.4GHz... this will slow down your wireless transfers to the appleTV slightly though if you are using 802.11n, 5GHz with wide channels enabled at present...

  • Radio interference on the line in and line out

OK, this is a complicated one. For the past four months, I had a rather ancient PC. I used this to play music, as it was connected to a Logitech 5.1 computer speaker system, which was attached to the three ‘out’ ports in the back of the PC. I also had an electric piano connected to the PC through the ‘in’ port in the back of the PC. I was able to play the piano and hear the sound through the speaker system.
For Christmas, I received a shiny iMac G5. I quickly set it up with headphones from the line out. Everything worked fine. Then I set it up to use the 5.1 speaker system through the line out. Instantly, I heard a local radio station loud and clear. Furthermore, when I plugged in the electric piano (using the LineIn program), I heard not only the radio station but also a buzz. (When I disconnected the electric piano and used the headphones or built-in iMac speakers instead of the speaker system, there was no problem.)
Now I can recall a couple of times in the past four months where I thought I heard some faint radio station sound coming from the speaker system (then hooked up to my PC). However, it was so faint that I wasn’t even sure it was coming from my own room. In contrast, with the Mac, it is LOUD AND CLEAR. I couldn’t get clearer reception from my clock radio. We do have some major radio towers about a mile away, but they obviously weren’t a real problem with my PC.
The radio/buzz sound coming through the speaker system is unaffected when I increase or decrease the volume using the keyboard controls. However, the radio/buzz sound can be turned up or down through the keyboard controls when I use the headphones instead of the speaker system. The sound is unaffected by adjusting the on-screen volume slider on iTunes.
Granted, when I plug in the 5.1 system, it has three headphone-jack 'ins', so I had to use a connecter putting together two of them into a single 'in' and letting the other one hang loose. The radio volume increases slightly when I touch the loose end. This shouldn't be the source of my problem, however, because I still hear the radio (and buzz) even when I unplug the 5.1 system.
I brought the computer to my housemate’s room and plugged his speaker system in. The radio sound went away. (I wasn’t going to go through the trouble of dragging my electric piano over). But this didn’t do me any good, other than for research purposes, because I’m not planning to park my computer in his room.
I tried using a shorter cord between the electric piano and the Mac. No difference. I tried ensuring that the cord was never vertical at any point. No difference.
I called Apple tech support, sitting on the line for about 45 minutes in all. They could not help me, and could only direct me to the Apple Discussions site.
I read up on the Apple Discussions site, which suggested plugging the Mac into a different outlet. When I tried this, things only got worse. The radio sound was much more staticky. Even worse, it started up as soon as I plugged the Mac in – the Mac did not even have to be turned on. So I went back and tried plugging the Mac directly into the outlet to which the Mac was originally plugged in via a power bar (this time sans power bar). Absolutely no difference. I tried plugging the Mac directly into other outlets in the living room and the kitchen (which also necessitated plugging the speaker system directly into an outlet, rather than through the usual power bar). Absolutely no change. I tried wrapping the cord from the Mac to the speaker system in aluminum foil, as had been suggested on Apple Discussions. There was no change.
I tried using the “Sound” menu in “System Preferences”. I adjusted the output volume. No change. I muted the output volume. No change. I adjusted the input volume. This only increased both the radio and the buzz sound. When I turned the input volume to zero, both sounds continued.
I called my mother, who happens to know a thing or two about sound. No luck. I called my brother-in-law, who works for one of the big three internet companies. No luck.
I'll try to hold off with the editorial comments for now, but suffice it to say that this is my first Mac experience, and any helpful advice would go a long way toward soothing my feelings about Apple right now.
    Thanks.

Yes, if I plug the electric piano into the Mac and listen to it through headphones coming out of the Mac, I get the radio sound (as well as a buzzing sound).
However, when I plug the electric piano directly into the speaker stereo system, bypassing the Mac entirely, I get only a small amount of interference/buzz. This makes me wonder if the Mac is, at the very least, dramatically amplifying the interference. (Again, when I formerly used the PC, there was a tiny bit of interference on rare occasions, but it was so faint that 99% of the time I did not even know it existed.)
I've also retried every possible combination in the old PC, just to make sure I wasn't fooling myself before, and at the moment I cannot pick up any radio interference there whatsoever, no matter how hard I try.

  • Is there a way of stopping the battery from charging?

    Dear Apple Community,
Recently I installed iStat Menus and found that, over the course of this year, my Macbook's charging capacity has dropped 5%. I know this isn't a massive number, but battery performance has become a concern for me. I use my Macbook as a desktop replacement, on the main. It's sitting on a mStand, connected to a large monitor on my desk. I use my Macbook to play games, surf the internet, do work and all that good stuff - basically, I use it for everything. I rarely use the Macbook without it being plugged in. I read on the Apple website that they do not recommend leaving the Macbook on charge permanently and that I should use it on battery at least one a month. As I use my Macbook as a desktop replacement, I don't actually have a lot of opportunity to do this.
My question to you, the community, is: is there a way of stopping the battery from charging, either with the use of an app or a physical device? Ideally, I would love to have my power plugged in BUT only used when the battery drops below 10%. Is this possible with an app?
On the other hand, am I just worrying about nothing? Will my battery be damaged further if I leave the Macbook charging permanently?
    Thanks for your help!
    Jeremy Reid

Ideally, I would love to have my power plugged in BUT only used when the battery drops below 10%. Is this possible with an app?
The charging characteristics are handled in firmware.  There is no app that would be able to do this.  You actually would not want to do this anyway.  Regularly discharging your battery to 10% will greatly decrease the life of your battery.  While it is true that you should not use your system exclusively plugged in, allowing it to run on battery a few hours a week should be fine.  Letting the battery regularly run down to (or below) 10% will cause you to use up cycles more quickly than is necessary (thereby reducing the life of your battery).  It's really a only a matter of disconnecting your Magsafe connector once in a while.
Leaving it plugged in does not result in it being charged "permanently".  It will charge until it is full and then charging will stop.  It will only begin recharging when it reaches about 95%.

  • I am trying to listen BBC radio news from BBC App, but on pressing the button I always get the error "there was an error playing this radio feed". What is the source of this error and how can I remove it?

I am trying to listen BBC radio news from BBC App, but on pressing the button "live radio" I always get the error "there was an error playing this radio feed". What is the source of this error and how can I remove it?

That is probably just a generic error message and you might not ever know what is causing it. Assuming that you have been able to play live radio with the app in the past (I know nothing about the app) and assuming that all other Internet related functions (Safari, email, etc.) are working properly on your iPad, quit the app completely and reboot your iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that fails to resolve the issue, you might want to reboot your router, unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

  • How to prevent B radio clients from connecting

How can I enforce only G & A radio clients from being able to connect to my 1131AG Access Points?
I know that when a B client connects it automatically brings all the G clients down to B due to the fact that G is backward compatible but does not operate at 54 mbps with a mix of B clients.

    Hi Sparky,
    Here is one method;
To set the 2.4-GHz, 802.11g radio to serve only 802.11g client devices, set any Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) data rate (6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 54) to Basic.
Note: The client must support the basic rate that you select or it cannot associate to the wireless device. If you select 12 Mbps or higher for the basic data rate on the 802.11g radio, 802.11b client devices cannot associate to the wireless device's 802.11g radio.
    From this good doc;

    Hope this helps!

First off, the the link you provide does not pass W3C Validation
Also, it looks like the site is using ActiveX which will only work with Windows and Internet Explorer for Windows.
I could not get the stream started using any of the browsers I tried.
There is no reason to use a widget to import a radio station into iTunes. If the site used standard MPEG audio streams, it could be played automatically in iTunes and, having been played once, could be restarted directly from iTunes.
If the site is using the proprietary Microsoft Windows media for the stream, then if ActiveX wasn't being used it would automatically play in Windows Media Player. If it uses the Windows Media Player 10 format with DRM it will never play in anything except Windows Media Player 10 for Windows. There is no way to play proprietary formats such as Windows or Real formats in iTunes.

  • Interference from other routers?

I live in a high rise apartment block. All my neigbours are using Linksys routers as well. I have installed a Wireless-N router model WRT300N which is supposed to cover a large floor area. My iMac which is located in another room about 20 feet away cannot pickup my router signal during peak hours and only picks up signals from my neighbours' routers which are all password protected as is my own router. The iMac Airport can only pick up the signal from my router before 8.00am and late at night when my neighbours are not using their computers.  When I try to switch the iMac Airport to pick up my own router signal during peak hours, it gets timed out without connectivity. Sometimes, the iMac cannot even detect the signal from my router and only picks up my neigbour's routers. I have better luck with picking up my own router signal using my PC laptop but I would prefer to use the Mac if only I could get connectivity. How can I minimize interference from my neighbours' routers or improve the connectivity of my linksys router to the iMac?
Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

If you haven't already Set your Network Name (SSID) to something other than Linksys If your iMac has and Airport Extreme card, and you don't have other non N devices that need to connect wirelessly to your router, set the router's Network Mode to N only. You can try switching between Wide-40MHz Channel, and Standard-20MHz, and see if one or the other works better. 40MHz uses two channels so it might help you, but it might also knock out your neighbors. It may also fail if you set it to that and there's too much interference, in which case you might have better luck with 20MHz.

  • Is it possible to flip the multiple choice quiz "radio" button from left to right of the answers?

    Hello forum,
I am using Captivate version 6.1.0.319 on a Windows 7 desktop PC and would like to know if it is possible to flip the multiple choice quiz "radio" button from left to right of the answers. I am working on a project that uses the "Require Right to Left composer" within the Global Preferences: General settings. The captions has been switched from left to right but the quiz answer radio buttons did not. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
I'm not aware of such a possibility. A workaround could be to create your own MCQ slides, using standard objects and widgets like the radiobuttons widget (there is an enhanced version created by Jim Leichliter) and advanced actions. These articles were written for previous versions, but can give you an idea about the work involved:

  • Limiting radio interference when listening to iPhone in the car

I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this semi-problem. I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee LImited - with both a cd and tape player. I used a cassette adapater with my former iPod- worked fine. I recently purchased an iPhone and the Belkin iPhone Headphone Adapter. The adapter works fine and I can listen to the iPod feature on my iPhone. However, every once in a while I will get radio interference in my speakers.
I know I can switch to airplane mode - but that sort of defeats the purpose! Any ideas out there to get ride of the interference? Thanks!

I get this when I listen to Sirius. You can never keep the same empty station on the radio when you travel between as many cities as I do.
There is a device that was made witch basically severs the connection between the radio and the antenna on your car. The device costs about $20-$40 depending on where you get it and sales. If you have Sirius or XM you can just install that device and solve the problem for both the Sat Radio and the Belkin transmitter.
The downside to this is that you will still need to have the satelite radio turned on to stop the antenna connection.
Basically without the full length of the antenna on the car, you can only hear the loudest and clearest stations. This will leave you with hundreds of choices rather than 2 or 3.
I do not know if they make a similar device with a switch rather than relying on the satelite signal, but it could be worth a check.
