FM Radio - Only Mono Reception

I just picked up a Zen Micro. When turning on the radio - I only got reception in Mono. Any ideas anyone? I li've in Chicago which has very big radio stations so I dont think that is the issue.
thanks.

i dont know how a zen micro works, but mine is Muvo Tx Fm, it has autoscan FM, when i
opt to autoscan for radio staion inside my office building, i only got few stations here in the
Phil., but when i tried it at home which is im in a 5th building open environment meaning not much
high rise building i got all the radio stations.
If Zen has the same function with my creative Muvo Tx Fm , try it

  • [BUG N95]Radio only on left channel

Hi. Since upgrading to v12 firmware the radio is only playing on the left headphone. First I thought the headphones might be damaged but the music player works perfectly, its just the radio only going to the left headphone!
    Whats that about?!
The bug it does NOT depend on signal strenght.
i'have made more tests (deep reset inclusive).

Hi guyz.Just wondering if you have tried to set the Balance in the music-Player of N95?
I suggest you guyz play a song and then goto the setting of the music-player maybe then it should work, if you see whether the balance is out.... its worth a try.
You can then check in your phone(general)setting{tools->Setting->general->enhancements} that you have selected HEADSET as your default.
May be it should solve it!
Come on give it a try then post your results here.

  • Audio jack output only mono?

Anyone else experiencing the audio jack output as only mono?

Depending upon which headset you are using and the 'jack' size, you may need to invest in an 'extension' to fit the jack all of the way into the output. Some have plastic that prevent complete insertion. If you purchase the extension that is made for the iPhone, it will fit your MBA.

  • X-Fi Titanium only Mono output through Line-Out

    Hi,
I have a problem with my x-fi titanium card. Since yesterday the output of the line-out is only mono. So the sound is always the same for right an left channel. I tried this in the mixer menue where you can test each channel if there is sound.
I already re-installed the newest drivers and changed PCI-E slot on my motherboard. The strange thing is in audio creation mode of the mixer I can see different amplitude for left and right channel of the output while testing.
After testing this whole thing I assume the amplifier of the card is broken and giving out the same signal to both channels.
    Anymore suggestions?
    regards,
    Mik

are you using a mono cable with the card? Your card could very well be outputting stereo, and if you use a mono cable, you will end up with 1 channel sound.
Have you checked your mixer to make sure that you do not have the balance slider set to the left or right?

  • Q: When importing old digital 8mm tapes, audio is only mono. How do I

force stereo or add a second audio to the other speaker. It is annoying ot watch an hour's worth of movie with only sound form one speaker. I know I can do this in final cut, looking to do completely within iMovie '08.

A Digital-8 camera should have had a stereo mic built in, but maybe the tapes were recorded with an extra external mono mic connected. It happens.
The mono audio from one speaker can be copied to the other channel of the stereo track by either (a) sending the movie to GarageBand and doing the tweaking there by adjusting this 'pan' control:
(..click on the picture for a bigger, clearer version..)
..or by (b) 'Extracting' the audio within iMovie, and then editing the audio in another program such as Audacity or Sound Studio ..click the following little picture and then click 'Start Slideshow' for the details:
Although iMovie can handle several audio tracks, it expects each one to be in stereo and doesn't have the facility itself to move audio from one channel of the audio (..left or right..) to the other channel.
If you're not familiar with adjusting audio in iMovie '08, try watching Apple's iM'08 audio tutorial, here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-sharing-33
Finer tuning, or rather positioning, of audio, Extracting, etc - but still not this copying from left to right, or vice versa - is available in iMovie HD 6, which is downloadable from here. Both versions will happily work (separately) on one Mac.
"..looking to do completely within iMovie '08.." ..nope; can't be done: you'll need to import the movie into GarageBand for the simplest solution. Then export it from GarageBand and re-import into iMovie:

  • No stereo, only mono

I have just bought a Soundblaster X-fi Go Pro. It won't record in stereo in my laptop using win. 8.1
I have downloaded the win 8.1 drivers for it.
It will only record in Mono, on both channels. It is connected to the Master Out of my mixer, which I know is sending out stereo because I can hear it on my mixer headphones and connected speakers.
I have been told that my laptop needs to recognise the soundcard as a soundcard and not as a microphone. I cannot see how to do this anywhere. I might have to take the new soundcard back to the shop.

I installed the USB Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit (External) sound card in my desktop and am only getting a mono sound in my stereo speakers (2/2. configuration) and I've since noticed the original sound card (installed into the motherboard) is doing the same. I could be wrong but I believe this problem started with the installation of the new sound card.

--> diagnostic tests on both sound cards (including Creative Diagnostics) and it reports that everything is fine. But when I check the audio in the Speaker Settings, the test signal "Left channel" is heard in both left and right speakers and the same happens when "Right channel" is voiced in the test. A similar check with the original sound card yields the same result.
I'm wondering if having two sound cards on my computer is causing this problem. You are supposed to be able to run the SB 24-bit External along with the existing card but I also read somewhere that it's best to disable the original card because of conflicts with stuff like DMA lines, IRQ lines or I/O address...
I've updated drivers with no luck. I would try to disable the original sound card but I don't know just how to do that and I'm not sure if that would make any difference anyway. I've not heard of anyone else with this problem after searching quite a bit on this forum and others so I thought I'd post here hoping someone could help. I'm running the following:
    HP Pavilion a574n
    Windows XP, SP3
Any help would be much appreciated and maybe save some hair on my head... :mansad:

Hi ya Phil! :smileyvery-happy: Lemmie tell ya what happened. When I first read your post, I thought "Out-of-phase mono? There's no such thing!" because, well... there isn't; at least not with my understanding of what 'out-of-phase' means. And this mono sound I get from my speakers is a quality mono sound, balanced and focused between the speakers.
Still, your post did get me to thinking that with all the splitters I have with my setup, something could be crossed or jumped in a way that could be causing the problem. I'm attaching a picture of my Sound Blaster set up that could show potential for problems. I have two splitters that break into three leads that feed three different sound systems. One feeds the desktop speakers, another feeds an Aiwa mini stereo system and a third feeds a full sized stereo system in another room.
    ? <img height="460" title="Sound Blaster Ali've! 24-bit set up" src="http://www.dennisthedeist.com/wdz/SBsetup.jpg" width="445" alt="Sound Blaster Ali've! 24-bit set up">
Thing is, I'd checked out the possibility of faulty cables/splitters when I first encountered the problem last week by removing the splitters and solely feeding the desktop speakers directly with the Sound Blaster. I had also connected this lead to the headphone output on the front of the computer to test the AC'97 on the motherboard. These connections played mono audio each and every time I tried this.
But being desperate, I tried once again after reading the above post. I connected the desktop lead to the Sound Blaster without the splitters and, as usual, only heard mono with the 'Left Channel/Right Channel' test. And then, for some reason, I connected the lead to the Aiwa mini system with the Sound Blaster, using no splitters, and lo and behold - IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!! ?:smileysurprised:
I about defecated on myself right then and there!? I mean, I'd been hassling with this thing for like a week and now I'm magically hearing stereo!? I really didn't expect it to work because the desktop speakers didn't work with the same connection so I hooked up the desktop speakers back to the Sound Blaster and THEY WORKED this time!? So I then hooked up the splitters and all three leads back to the original setup shown in the picture and EVERYTHING WORKS!?:smileyvery-happy:
It's mind boggling; I don't know why everything is suddenly working fine but I'll be darned if I enable the AC'97 and test it to see what happens. ? It can remain dead from here on for all I care. But I still have to wonder what happened. All that work yesterday uninstalling and reinstalling the Sound Blaster may have had a delayed effect or something. That is, when I hooked up the Awia mini-system separately with the Sound Blaster, something clicked somewhere, somehow, and I now have stereo. And it totally rocks!
It does bug me though, just what the heck happened? Still, I gotta thank Phil for getting me to mess around with the leads once again. If I ever see him outside of cyberspace, I'll have to buy him a beer... ?

  • ITunes only mono / very poor quality audio via Airport Express

I have a relatively old (3-4 years?) Airport Express, which had been working perfectly to play iTunes over my hifi system wirelessly. However after a year or two of not using it (and upgrading my OS X Tiger regularly in the mean time) I am having problems. Initially iTunes would not connect at all (unknown error -3256) so after reading various discussion posts I (a) downloaded AirPort Utility 5.3.2 for Tiger and (b) used it to upgrade the operating software on the AX unit (now 6.3 I think?), successfully I think.
Following this iTunes finds the external hifi/speakers and music plays wirelessly through them BUT the audio quality is terrible, varying from treble only with no base to playing only out of one speaker.
The audio quality is perfect if I plug my Mac / iTunes directly into the hifi using the same cable as that connecting to the AX unit, so I figure this must be a problem with the bandwidth/connection from the Mac to AX.
Can someone please help me? Much appreciated.

If it's bandwidth probelm I would expect to hear the music cutting in and out (as the AX trying to fill its buffer up and then the buffer becomes empty as not enough data coming in to fill it). Rather than becoming mono only or treble only.
I think you should check your analog connections.

  • Sound only MONO?

I bought KT3 Ultra 2 yesterday with Athlon xp and 256 ram. I have window xp. After I installed everything I tried to listen music it only comes out as mono. I have a stereo speaker that works for my other computer. I set up every audio configure thing of window xp and installed new via 4 in 1 and audio driver from both via and msi site. Is there a jumper or bios that set to stereo or is it the motherboard's problem? I can't live without music.

  • ITunes Radio only plays one genre

I have set up a station adding all my favourite artists from multiple genres. But it only plays 80's music. That's it. Any tips to fix this?

Hi. I just noticed this too. I like the surprise of not knowing what song is next! Anyway, if you change to anything but "0" for upcoming songs, it seems to work as usual. Hopefully the devs will see this thread and fix this minor bug.

  • Sound input is now only mono

Just as the subject heading says, my sound input now only picks up on the right channel only. I've tried various cords hoping that maybe there's a break in the line, but now I believe there's a break in the input.
What happened was, I decided to plug the head for my amp directly into my computer instead of using a mixer to control the sound going in, and now it won't work properly. Is there any solid evidence to suggest that that overloaded the physical component? Or is this just a total coincidence?

Oh, I didn't just blow out the speaker. I would know, because I was using headphones at the time. I also made sure right away to test with other devices being played through the analog stereo 1/8" input. All play through JUST the left side, regardless of output device.
However, sounds/noises/music/etc. generated by the computer itself (iTunes, movies, alert sounds, and such) are all stereo.

  • Playback is only Mono

I have been able to record fine. But when I play it back, it only comes out of the left speaker. I went to the Audio Hardware setup. For the default output, it says "[01S]Analog 1/2 MobilePre". That is the only option available. My MobilePre has 2 outputs to two speakers. But the option to have output from two speakers is not there. Please advise.
    Thanks

That is the option to have output from two speakers. [01S] indicates that it's stereo, and the outputs are Analog 1 and 2. If it's being sent to the sound device as a stereo signal, then there's something wrong, either with your MobilePre, or in the system beyond it.

  • N95 Visual Radio

    N95 V12.0.013
Visual Radio (used simple as FM-Radio) during switching between stations sometimes start working in mono mode... on all stations. (
At that moment other progams (e.g. music player) still working in stereo mode.
After N95 reloading Visual Radio start again in stereo mode till next occasional switching.
What is possible to do to avoid Visual Radio switching ???

I was surprised by the mono reception of the N95 radio, too.
I know that there are some technical restriction regarding the signal quality and the reception mode. On the other side I'm using the radio in a big city. I'd expect that the signal level here is the highiest you can get, but I can't approve to hear any radio station in stereo. In fact, it was extremaly difficult to find any sender.
Due to these facts and the name "Visual radio" I'm certain, that it was only a bad joke of the Nokia marketing department and not a technology feature of this mobile phone.
Unfortunately almost all of the n95 "features" seem to be of the same poor quality. After 4 Nokia phones I'm realy disappointed by this one. Nokia is apparently loosing it's innovation ability and change to marketing driven low level product manufacturer.
